  2. Well the addition of a prankster is only something I thought of that might add a little spice. Glad your interested though, gonna give it a little while to see if anyone else wants in too and then I'll get something started.
  3. I'd have to agree, honestly if they were to make a manestream console game it would likely be a Nintendo console due to the main demographic that buys those types of consoles. That said I'd totally buy any console if I found out a pony game was heading in its direction. They already have games out for tablet and android (one of which my friend showed my the other day...so tempting...) so it may be possible that they would take the next step...but it is a big step from tablet to full console.
  4. Hi ho everypony. So I just got approved and I'm new around so I figured I'd try my hand at starting up an RP topic and I would like to gauge if anyone would be interested. Anyway onto the idea. Lumi is the owner of the Sapphire Hill Observatory on the outskirts of Canterlot and she'll be gearing up for the grand opening. I was thinking some sort of large late evening gathering that would extend into the night as Lumi plays host and tour guide. Food, drinks and fireworks will be provided and ponies of all ages are welcome. "Especially the little foals!" Settle down Lumi I know you're excited. Anyway I don't want this to be completely one sided, I always find RPs a lot more fun if people throw in unexpected things. So yeah, I guess you could say I'd be looking for somepony to play the antagonist for whatever reason (feel free to PM me if you wanna lay out any ideas in secret); simple pranking, a mean grudge, would all be great to me. So yeah, also looking for ponies who just want ot have a fun evening looking at the stars. Anyone interested?

  6. Pharmacology exams are not fun!

  7. Unicorn for me. They just seem more mystical and quiet than the other races, and being a very quiet person myself I feel they fit my personality well.
  8. Howdy Phil, I hadn't considered how other ponies would see her magic. I've added in a little section about that uner magical talents. Basically she can see it but if anyone else wants to see it they have to be practically on top of her in order to do so. I added the family section back in too, thanks for the clarification. ^^
  9. Hmm, you make a good point I hadn't thought of. To be honest the naming the parents bit was something I tend to do by instinct these days. Every other RP board I've joined in the past has wanted to know about family details (at least names) so I just kinda include them. But I get the point you are making about future applications, I certainly don't want to hamper anyone in the future. I've removed them in case they cause any problems later on. Thanks for the heads up and the compliment. ^^
  10. A mixed bag of apples. I'm not a massive fan of spike...actually he makes me cringe and I hate that feeling. Definitely some good bits when the Mane6 actually got involved. RD and Rarity certainly added some good moments and the Pinkie-tache was great. Apart from that though, not too much in this ep that enthralled me...was hoping for a bit more after the last episode left me feeling a little wanting. But anyway, good heartwarming stuff I guess but nothing too special.
  11. Christmas cold? Best! Present! Ever! ...actually no, its not... ¬_¬

  12. Yup, I've made the suggested edits so its all ready to critique. ^^
  13. Okie doke, think I've covered everything with a few small edits now. I've fixed everything Stars mentioned with the exception of one bit in her history that still mentions Luna. Not sure how to reword this, is this ok seems as though its talking about an event that happened or do you want me to remove it. Apart from that I think I've fixed the rest as I said. Ready for another check over.
  14. Author Notes: This story was written to give background to one of the most popular of the background ponies of MLP:FiM, Ditzy Doo aka Derpy Hooves. Aspects of the story have been influenced by the numerous cameo appearances she has had in the show itself and some aspects of the fandom, however most ideas have come straight from me. Thus you may find yourself wondering why certain things aren’t the same, this is deliberate as I wanted to create my own version of the character as I see her. I do hope you enjoy. *brohoof* Second note: I'll be posting each part as and when I finish it. I'm working on another unrelated writing project at the moment too (which I hope to publish) but I need some easy going project too which is why I'm writing this. I'm also working on a number of large written assignments for my final university year so depending on how those are going updates here may or may not be quick/slow. Anyway... *cough* *puts on Rarity voice* ONWARDS! Chronicles of Derpy Part 1 Storm clouds thundered in the night sky over head as a cloak shrouded pony darted her way down the street. Rain dashed the ground causing mud to splatter upwards with every hoofstep she made. Slung over her back was a basket covered in a blanket and sheltered from the rain under her cloak. As the pony reached the end of the street she paused slightly and rolled back her hood. Her coat was a deep grey colour that matched the colour of the clouds above her and her eyes shone with a golden orange hue beneath her auburn coloured mane and forelocks. Ahead of her sat a large building on the edge of the town. The lights were out and the curtains drawn, the occupants fast asleep, apart from one window upstairs that still bore a light. Another rumble of thunder echoed over head as the pony looked up at the sign above the door. It read ‘Ponyville Orphanage’. Slowly the mare approached the door and dropped herself to her knees. She took a moment to unbuckle the strap around her middle that held the basket on her flank before lowering it to the ground beside her. She stood slowly and looked back at the door. Raising a hoof she made a move to bang on the door but no sound occurred, her hoof stopping short of the door. A sniff filled the air as a tear began to form in the mare’s eye. She shut them quickly, forcing the tears to roll down her face as she raised her hoof once more; again though she stopped short. Was it reluctance? Guilt? Fear? Just then another sound crossed the air, a small laugh filled with wonder and amusement. The mare looked back at the basket to see a small head poking out of the blankets looking up the thundering sky above her. The small foal shared a grey coloured coat with the mare but it was much lighter, her short mane a beautiful blonde colour. Her eyes were the same vibrant orange as the mare but that is where the similarities stopped. The foal’s eyes were crossed, one looking up and the other down. For a moment the mares expression softened, a smile crossing her face as she watched the young foal looking up at the sky. Eventually though she shut her eyes tight, looking away sharply as tears began to flood back to her eyes. Voices in her head haunted her... “That’s your child?” “Oh goodness...um...she’s lovely...” “By Celestia have you seen those eyes?” “Trust you to give birth to a freak.” “Hahahahahahahahahaha......!” The mare hung her head and continued to weep for a moment. Nothing but ridicule and torment. Why did everypony laugh? Why was she so weak? She looked up at the lit window above her. Was this right? What else could she do? She couldn’t take any more. “...Ma-ma...!” The mare felt her blood chill and for a moment time stood still. She looked back at the basket. The young foal had wiggled her front legs clear of the blanket and was waving them in her direction with a large smile on her face. Her first words! For a moment she just watched the young foal and everything around her seemed to fade away. Finally she shook her head and looked back at the window. No she couldn’t do this! This wasn’t right! She would show everypony what she could do! She would make them sorry for laughing and raise a child that she could be proud of! Kneeling down again she fastened the basket onto her flank once more and stood up. She moved a hoof to her chest and unclipped the clasp holding her cloak on allowing the wind to blow it over her shoulders. A moment later she lowered her head and spread her wings. She would return to Cloudsdale a proud mother! She wouldn’t allow others to rule her life anymore; she had decided! With a powerful downward swipe of her wings and an upward jump with her legs the pegusus mare found herself in the air soaring upwards towards the cloud. She couldn’t help but feel a little unbalanced due to the basket on her flank but she put the thought aside as she turned back in the direction of Cloudsdale. The storm above still raged and the thunder was getting louder and louder. The Pegasus didn’t seem to care, she was after all a weather pony by trade; storms were part of her everyday life. The rain pelted her face as the wind whipped around her and yet she felt on top of the world. A sudden flash brought her attention back to the moment. Lightning! She quickly decreased her altitude, afraid of another bolt getting too close. How had she not noticed how high she had been flying? Another flash. The noise of thunder filled the air almost immediately; that one had been close. At her side the previously quiet foal was now crying, the noise and flashes scaring her. She had to land, there was no point trying to go on further in this storm. Ducking her head downwards she made a beeline for the ground but forgot she was still near the clouds. A final crack of thunder echoed the flash of another lightning bolt and the Pegasus felt her whole body go limp. She had barely had time to move as the lightning bolt had sizzled its way past her, barely a few feet away. The smell of burnt feathers filled her nose as the pain reached her mind. With a scream of pain the Pegasus plummeted from the sky her right wing ripped to pieces by the force of the lightning bolt. She knew there was nothing she could do, there was no way to stop her freefall and nopony was there to catch her. A wave of sadness and despair filled her mind as she watched the ground speeding towards her. Suddenly a thought hit her. She reached back and pulled the light grey foal from the basket at her side. Clutching her tightly in her hooves she curled up around the child, trying to protect her from the coming impact. She shut her eyes and braced herself. The air rushed past her, rain splattering against her coat and mingling with the flood of tears that ran down her cheek. The ground neared, shapes of black and grey slowly coming into view as the lightning above flashed across the sky. It took but a moment in all, the strike, the fall and finally the thud as she hit the ground. The world was a haze of grey and black blurs. Nothing would focus. Rain splattered her face as her vision gazed up at the sky. How long had she been lying there? An few minutes? An hour? More? She didn’t know. All she could feel was pain. She tried to move her head but nothing happened, her body didn’t respond to anything she told it to do. With her blurred vision she tried to see where she was but without being able to move she couldn’t see much. Looking back down she found the young foal curled up in her arms. She was sleeping. Twitching lightly every few moment in her dreams. “...h-help...” Her voice was low and hoarse. It hurt to talk and yet she knew she had to find help. “...Help...!” It was little more than a whimper. Just then she heard it, voices! Her mind started to race, had they heard her? Who were they? Help...please! “Great galloping galoshes!” came a broad female accent, “Jonagold get the cart quickly! We got ah ‘mergency on ah hands!” The new pony looked awestruck for a moment as she stared at the Pegasus. Rushing forwards she looked up at the hole in the barn roof and then back down at the injured Pegasus. She looked her over quickly; her right wing was burnt beyond recognition and the left had been broken during her fall through the barn roof. A nasty cut ran the across her flank, slicing the Pegasus’ storm cloud cutie mark in half. The new pony couldn’t be sure but it also seemed that one of her hind legs was broken but the most worrying thing was the trail of blood that was leaking from the Pegasus’ mane across the back of her head. “Darn it all Jonagold where is that cart?!” she cried again as she looked over her shoulder at the barn door before looking back at the Pegasus, “Now don’t you worry sugar, y’all gonna be jus’ fine!” “Ah ma here Gala, what’s goin...” cried a new male voice before pausing mid sentence, “Ee gads! Gala help me out here!” The Pegasus could do little but lie there as the other two ponies went about their work. She could feel them checking her out, surveying her injuries one at a time. “Gala look, sh’all got a kid!” “Oh struth!” She could feel her front legs being moved. Were they going to take her child? No they couldn’t! She wouldn’t allow it! Not now! “...n-no...” “Gala she’s awake!” “...n-no...” “Don’t you worry sugar, we won’t take her away from you. Jonagold we gotta get her in the cart quick.” She could feel herself being lifted up and placed in a cart full of hay. Before long the cart was moving out of the barn and back into the stormy weather outside. The cart bumped and rattled on the dirt road as rain continued to fall. She could feel herself slipping in and out of consciousness. “Come on Jonagold we all gotta hurry!” “Ah’m going as fast as ah dare, don’t want to aggravate her injuries!” Everything seemed so far away, so distant; the noise of the cart, the flash of lightning above, voices, shouts, flashing lights. Nothing seemed to register, nothing mattered. Her blurry gaze fell on the still sleeping foal in her hooves and a small smile turned the corner of her mouth. “Nurse get me a bed quick!” A new voice! Who was it? Did it matter? She was getting sleepy now, so sleepy. “What about the child doctor?” “Get it off her, we can’t operate if she’s still clutching it.” Child? No! Please no! She felt her hooves being moved apart and the foal was quickly lifted from her view. “...n-no...” Her voice was barely audible, little more than a weak gust of wind. She couldn’t talk any more. Suddenly she felt herself cough harshly, the sudden movement causing a wave of pain to shoot through her body as she felt a sticky wet substance splash against her lips and front legs. Taking a breath seemed hard now, she felt so sleepy and weak. “Doctor we’re losing her!” She could feel her eyes closing. Everything was getting so dark. So tired. Breathing in, out, in...out... “Doctor!” Darkness. I’m sorry...so, so sor...
  15. And to celebrate the not end of the world I decided to buy a Derpy poster.
  16. Howdy Stars, thanks for the pointers. No prob about not being staff, at the other boards I used to RP on everyone tended to drop their two cents in. It's really helpful. Now then lets see...I've editted a few things. Knocked out the references to Luna and the mention to insomnia. I see where youre coming from on these points and I agree, I guess insomnia was a poor choice of words to describe what I wanted. Anywaaaaaaaaaaaaaay...oh yeah, I changed remedial boarding school to just boarding school as it would work either way without issue and removed origami (i like doing that myself so I thought I'd throw it in, no biggie). As for the cutie mark. I guess you could say it works along the lines you've mentioned. The way I saw it working is that as she knows the constellations so well her magic can use this information to work out where she is in relation to the constellations and then work out where her destination is from there. I was thinking individual stars would light up to form directions rather than the constellations themselves. Speaking of the constellations though, I figured the references in the show pointed towards a similar layout to what we know but I am more than willing to change things if the staff deem it necessary. Thanks for the compliment too. I've been RPing for years now and writing is one of my hobbies so I just love putting these profiles together...and if other people enjoy them too so much the better. Again, thanks for the help. *crosses fingers and waits for the staff*
  17. No not really, I've been quietly pleased to see the fandom growing so nicely around the show. Rightly so too, there are too few light hearted things out there that people can enjoy collectively. I've met loads of people who I likely wouldn't have if it wasn't for ponies. Heheh, I remember when I was in a group of people, some of who were friends, and I answered a question with a Big Mac style 'Eeyup' only for someone I didn't know to give me a sly Twilight quote at which point we looked at each other and brohoofed. XD
  18. Roleplay Type: World of Equestria Name: Luminescence “Lumi” Sex: Female Age: Young Mare Species: Unicorn Eye colour: Purple Coat: Blue Mane/Tail: Violet with white streaks Physique: Average although she seems a little weaker than most due to her being tired most of the time Residence: Sapphire Hill Observatory, Canterlot Occupation: Owner of Sapphire Hill Observatory Family: Father – Sunlight Burst Mother – Evening Radiance Brother - Daze Cutie Mark: The Big Dipper – Each star is made up of golden coloured gem with a white line connecting them to form the constellation pattern. This pattern is set against a purple background. Many ponies assume that Lumi got her cutie mark simply by working at the observatory she now owns. Not so, in fact she had it long before the day she became owner. Lumi got her cutie mark the night after she broke up an entire classroom in a fit of rage and fled the scene. After hours of running she came to a stop as night was falling. She didn’t know where she was and the fear of her current situation suddenly hit her. She panicked and continued running, unknowingly heading deeper into the forest. The night continued to close in and every rustle of leaves or hoot of an owl sent a chill up her spine. She finally reached a small clearing and stopped. All around her the forest was dark and foreboding and the young filly curled up and started to cry. She just wanted to go home, to curl up in a warm bed and be loved for who she was. She looked up at the starry sky, the night which had been so comforting from her bedroom window now seeming so scary. It was in this moment, as her eyes met the sky and her mind dwelled on home that she felt a rush of magic surge through her. Without her own input a brilliant ray of white light shot from the tip of her horn and screamed into the sky. For a moment the light of the glow made it seem almost like the middle of the day but as suddenly as it had happened it was gone and the forest was plunged into darkness once again. Lumi squealed and curled up again but eventually looked up at the sky once more. Something was strange. One of the many stars in the sky was glowing brighter than it had been, almost looking like a miniature moon as it hung in the darkness. As she watched a ray of white light shot from the star and linked to another star. This one too began to glow brighter and another ray of light sprung from it towards another star. As Lumi watched the stars began to glow in a pattern above her, a massive arrow pointing away to the north. For a moment she didn’t know what to do but something deep down told her to get up and go in that direction. As she did the starlight arrow in the sky vanished and different starts appeared forming new arrows in the sky. It was almost like watching the constellations being drawn out in the sky. Lumi’s heart and spirit began to climb as her pace changed from a walk to a trot and then a gallop as she followed the patterns of stars in the sky. It was a few hours later when she crested a hill to find herself gazing at the spires and lights of Canterlot. For a moment she stopped and looked up at the stars. A last arrow of light was pointing the way but as she watched the stars glow faded to nothing. She whispered a small ‘thank you’ to the sky and was about to set off home when she felt a slight tingle pass through her body. Looking herself over she found that her cutie mark had appeared on her flank, a representation of the Big Dipper set against a deep purple background. Lumi was over the moon, so to speak, and set off once again at a gallop towards Canterlot. History: Luminescence grew up in Canterlot and was a second child to her elder brother. Her parents paid her very little attention as she was growing up, whether this was due to Lumi just being very quiet or the fact her brother was very loud is debateable. Either way Lumi found herself left alone for long periods of time as her parents focussed their attention on her brother. Was this warranted? In the eyes of her parents, yes. Daze was a highly talented unicorn and was showing promise in his early school at magic kindergarten. Lumi meanwhile was having trouble grasping even the most basic spells that most unicorns could perform such as levitation. Her parents cared a lot about the image their family had given they were both descendants of proud unicorn families that had been in Canterlot for generations. For them to admit their daughter was a failure was unthinkable to them. You could say that they should have spent more time with her helping her but in fact the opposite happened. As soon as she was old enough her parents enrolled her in a magic boarding school. Lumi was already accustomed to being alone and a change of scenery meant little to her. Still it didn’t help her mood and the young filly often felt lost and forlorn as she stared out of the school window at night. Lumi had taken to staying up late into the night to watch the stars. The sleepy night scene of Canterlot was soothing to her and the beauty of the twinkling sky fascinated her. Soon her nocturnal activity would begin to impact on her school work though and she would often fall asleep in class and be so tired she couldn’t pull off much magic at all. She soon started to become disillusioned as to why she was a unicorn and started to resent the very fact that somepony was forcing her to learn magic. This was a very odd position for the school to deal with and their response wasn’t the best; they forced yet more schooling on the young filly, lumbering her with extra classes, assignments and detentions. Perhaps somepony should have seen it happen, the building rage that had been growing inside Lumi ever since her parents abandoned her. Perhaps nopony expected it from such a quiet reclusive filly but it happened none the less. It happened during one of her extra levitation classes. In a flash of rage Lumi finally snapped and so too did her magic. Before the teacher could do anything chairs and desks around the room lifted and started flying around the room. The sound of smashing furniture filled the air as Lumi took out her pent up anger on anything her magic would lift. One such desk sailed clean through the window and Lumi used this opening to flee the scene in floods of tears. She ran and didn’t look back. Day was quickly turning to night as she finally came to a halt and looked around. She didn’t have a clue where she was and her rage and tear quickly turned to fear and dread. This was the fateful night when Lumi finally earned her cutie mark (see above) but her return to Canterlot wasn’t all she expected. Her parents had been informed of what had happened by the school and had already arranged search parties when Lumi arrived back the following morning. Glee, happiness and relief were shared all around. Lumi apologised for running away and destroying the classroom and her parents apologised for ignoring her for so long. Even her brother, who had shown nothing but resentment towards her in his youth, hugged her and cried on her shoulder. From this point on Lumi’s life improved. She was fed back into normal classes and although she struggled at first she managed to keep with the pace of learning this time round. She was still quiet, preferring to spend many a long night sitting by an open window gazing up at the stars. Her parent’s tried to get her to act more lady like, the young Lumi having grown a rather stubborn rebellious streak, but this was halted at every step they made. It seemed that Lumi wasn’t destined to be a normal refined lady like unicorn. Instead she was often found asleep on a table at one of the many cafes that littered Canterlot with a copy of astrology books and scrolls littering the table top. The study of the night soon became her one love and the events of the Nightmare Moon incident sealed the deal. She wanted to teach everyone about the night, especially the young colts and fillys. It seemed that fate was willing to help her out this time too. Much to her surprise an old observatory on the outskirts of Canterlot came up for sale and she managed to buy it. Renovating the old building became her main objective and she worked hard, often late into the night which was no chore for her. It took some time but she finally accomplished it and Sapphire Lake Observatory finally opened to the public. Lumi now spends much of her time at her new home, organising school trips and teaching the younger generations about the night sky. Character Summary: Magical Talents: Lumi’s magic is fairly limited in its breath. Like many unicorns she can use levitation magic and, despite her problems in her younger years, has become fairly apt at it; able to hold a number of items in the air at once. Her main magical talent though comes from the power that granted Lumi her cutie mark. She calls it Astral Navigation. Using her knowledge of the night sky her magic can work out where she is in relation to where the constellations are and from that work out where her destination is. When used individual stars light up in such a way that they form a route guiding her to any place she wants. This is limited of course; she can’t use this magic during the day as the stars cannot be seen and for destinations further away the whole route is unlikely to show up meaning she has to keep moving forward in order to see the rest of the directions. In addition only Lumi can see the glow of the stars under normal situations. The spell has a slight radiance to it but its limited to a few feet so anypony else who wishes to see the glow must be almost standing on top of her which Lumi finds a little invasive. As such she tends to keep it to herself giving rise to it all 'being in her head' as some ponies like to say. Her magic gives off a pure white glow when used. Other Talents: Lumi has shown great aptitude when it comes to stellar observation. She can easily name all the constellations and can talk for hours about astral phenomena’s she has seen through her telescope. She is also a dab hand at baking, the observatory often smelling of cake and muffins. Dreams & Goals: Lumi likes to think big but she knows that such thoughts require a lot of work. Lumi one day dreams of meeting the pony responsible for the night although she fully believes that such a dream is unlikely to come true. She also wishes to bring her love of the night to as many young ponies as possible. Likes: The night, stars, astrology, muffins, naps, quiet time alone, singing Dislikes: Being ignored, dandelion sandwiches Hobbies: Stargazing, baking, napping Personality: Lumi is a very quiet pony and can often be found apart from larger groups enjoying a snooze by herself. She is however very friendly to ponies she knows and, although a little timid, will seek out those who look alone and unsure of themselves to try and befriend them. She also loves foals and would spend all her time amongst them if it wasn’t for her greater love of the stars. She has a tendency to be quite well spoken and this can be a little unsettling to ponies that don’t know her as her behaviour is normally not lady like in quality. Also due to her habit of staying up late stargazing she has become somewhat nocturnal which makes her look quite odd during the day as she stumbles around having not had enough sleep. This in turn leads to her taking naps at every opportunity she can whether it be standing in a queue at the post office or during a pause in conversation. Oh...and she snores... Finally she does suffer from a fear of the dark, not the night, pitch darkness; this is due to her experience before she got her cutie mark.
  19. My Little Pony Roleplay. ^^ This place topped the search results.
  20. Thanks everyone! Ho, now that's a question. I've played quite a few RP games before, everything from Panzer Dragoon Saga to Skies of Arcadia and Phantasy Star Online. Dabbled a litle in WoW too, probably too much, although I don't play now due to boredom issues! XD As for message boards, for the longest time I was owner and creator of a board called Sonic Aftermath (Sonic based RP board). I haven't RPed there though for ages. I've also been part of numerous Gundam based boards and a couple of Furry RP places. Haven't done any hardcore RPing in a while though, couple of years or so.
  21. About Myself: I'm a 28 year old English Brony who has been looking for somewhere to enjoy himself. Been a fan of MLP since halfway through season 2 and even watched the original show back in the 80's (yes, I'm a guy in case you're pondering ^^). Anyway, I like writing, used to draw a lot of anthro art too but that has fallen by the wayside due to me focussing on my second degree. Besides that I love Eurobeat music and Jpop, roleplay games (either as computer games or message boards), cats and muffins! How I found Canterlot.com: Google search How I became a fan of MLP:FiM: Funny story I guess. I was looking for new music to listen to on youtube one day (in terms of time frame I think this was about halfway through season 2) and just happened upon a video called something like "Firing orbital friendship cannon". Now I was listening to eurobeat songs at this point so I was immediately curious, thankfully I clicked the vid. Turns out it was some weird solar explosion with the Super Ponybeat version of Pinkie Pies Cupcake song playing over it. The song hooked me and I finally managed to narrow down where it came from, finding the clip from the episode. Well that kinda did it for me, I was immediately curious and ended up looking up the episodes online and the rest if history. My favourite main cast pony/s: Fluttershy So I guess I got carried away writing stuf above eh? Oh well, heya everypony! Been a while since I joined a new message board...in fact its been a while since I posted on a message board at all. I tend to be rather quiet in RL so I've been lurking for a few days here before I made an account and posted. I love roleplaying so I hope to have a good time. ^^
