  1. I suppose in the end what this boils down to is don't over analyze the concept. It's sounds partly done for humor, partly done for a "wild West" feel without regards to realism. Really though, FiM isn't a realism focused show, with how the land is full of magic and ponies move the weather and what not; may as well have a pony pull steam engine.
  2. Carrot Fields - Loses his inner monologue, having to say everything that crosses his mind, no matter how silly or embarrassing. Martini Paradise - Always feeling tipsy, difficulty figuring anything out Braeburn - Lethargic and slow, as in literally slow motion slow.
  3. That is true, or a Griffin and a pony, considering the more industrialized society that Griffins are from. As for location, I suppose one of the larger pony towns, or given maybe ponies don't like such buildings too close, outside of any of the towns.
  4. I have a much stronger suspicion now that it was a bot or trolls and he just petitioned against the so-called DMCA; Youtube realized the mistake; channel back.
  5. Some ideas are public service ponies, especially in emergency services: Doctors, nurses, transport, firefighters, rangers, civil engineers, search & rescue (for both land and sea). I haven't really seen anypony in these areas yet and I imagine Equestria has them to some degree. Also perhaps metalworking ponies, for whitesmiths (for soft metals such as goldsmiths and silversmiths) and blacksmiths (for metals like iron). Granted it appears there is very little metal used in the buildings I have seen in Equestria but I am sure there is *some* demand for metal work. Construction workers, she have seen them even in Cloudsdale (I guess cloud structures need such construction too).
  6. Here you go, the penciled rough of him: Up to you, did you want him color completed? Certainly do that if you like or if someone does want to adopt him.
  7. Yes! We were talking about this on chat the other day, the surprising lack of ponies in emergency services such as firefighting or search and rescue. I think its a great idea!
  8. Hmm... Well, for anyone reading this far down, if your character doesn't get a vote, there are at least a hundred characters here (or it feels like it) and many more in other places. Most people won't get votes. I was more stunned one of mine did! That's a bummer, as you seem to be full of ideas in the chat, but I totally understand RP stuff isn't for everyone (I don't do anywhere else but here myself)
  9. Thanks.. I didn't mean to step on anyone's shoes though, just had this idea for a while in the chat. D:
  10. Dawww, she is so cute and very well drawn too! What program did you use for her? Your style messes well with the FiM style, great job. My only critique is that line above (and is supposed part of) her front left hoof doesn't seem to quite belong, but that is a very minor quibble, the image is awesome.
  11. [ Pony Related Character ] Name: Martini Paradise Gender: Female Age: Young Mare Species: Unicorn Pelt Color: Light Pinkish-Gray (#F8A2AB) Mane/Tail Color & Style: Light Leaf Green (#74B1A9) with Light Yellow-Green streaks (#D8F39F) Eye Color: Deep Leaf Green (#168505) Cutie Mark: Martini glass with green liquid and red cheery Physique: Average to slim, pretty typical for a unicorn of her age Residence: Currently in Roughrider Ridge, but has no permanent home yet (stuck there as she has no bits) Occupation: Currently unemployed, hopes to find some sort of bartending or saloon job Motivation: She loves to *listen*, to help ponies relax and recover from their day, so they can go back and work hard tomorrow, she also wants the chance to earn enough to raise her daughter, Sunrise Beach, well. Likes: Music, socializing, listening, experimenting creating new mixed drinks, active social places, the outdoors, especially the beach, loves taking nature walks, especially in places she's never been before, and exploration. Dislikes: Isolation, dark and/or spooky places, heights, carrots, ponies who don't know their limits Character Summary: Martini grew up on the Gallopocous Island as the only daughter of a pair of unicorn beach bums who ran a tiny stand that served fruity beverages to the tourists. Neither of her parents were good at business though and the family always scraped by week to week, never quite having enough bits. As her folks often neglected their jobs, she had to often help run the stand as a foal just to make sure they made enough to eat. The closest she got to playing on the beach, most summers, was running orders out to customers. As she grew to a filly, and got her cutie mark, she rebelled from that lifestyle, and instead threw herself into a life of parties and no consequences. She took that as the meaning her cutie mark gave to her life. However, even then, she spent much of time at the parties listening to folks tell her about their lives, wants, and needs, and problems, and would often find herself making drinks for them. Then the biggest of all consequences happened - she found herself with foal. She didn't even know who the sire was. She was faced with a choice - continue her life as she had, and become her parents, or face responsibility. For the foal's sake, she accepted that responsibility, and changed her life, learning her limits. Finding few opportunities for the kind of work she wanted to do on the island and wanting to start her life over, she and her daughter moved away from the Gallopocous. Martini has held odd jobs since but none so far in her true calling - bartending - which mixes her favorite activities: drink creation, socializing, and listening. Despite how her foal changed her life, and having not expected a foal at her age... she would never call Sunrise Beach a mistake. Sunrise was the best thing that ever happened to her, helped her focus on what was important in life. She dotes on the foal, and will do anything for her. Images of Martini: *Note* - The Twilight drunk pic in the corner is just a joke drawing for lols, and not part of her character image there or meant as part of RP. Sunrise Beach - daughter:
  12. She needs her pimpin' hat and cane first!
  13. Okay, added some more info to his summary, to better explain his reason behind why he decided to help start up Appleossa and what he hopes to achieve.
  14. [ Pony Related Character ] Name: Braeburn Gender: Male Age: Stallion Species: Earth pony Pelt Color: Pale golden orange (Hex: ECD556 - Confetti) Mane/Tail Color & Style: Orange-ish tan with golden high lights (Hex: E69A27- Fire Bush & E2B23D - Anzac respectively) Eye Color: Light Apple Green (Hex: 40FF00) Cutie Mark: A single Braeburn Apple (Red-Orange in color - Hex: FF461C) Physique: He's a lean, but wiry-tough pony.  Not as strong as many of the others, but with more than enough energy to make up for it Residence: Appleoosa, a newly built town located between the Painted Pinto Desert and Saddleveil Plains Occupation: One of the original apple orchard land-owners of Apploosa, which gives him some authority as a spokespony and in matters of town planning and defense, although no formal position Motivation: To start and manage and hopefully expand an apple orchard business in a region no one thought could be done, with the hopes of selling to both Ponies and Griffins alike Likes: AAAAAAAppleoosa!, horse-drawn carriages, horse-drawn horse-drawn carriages, salt licks, law and order, wild west dances, mild west dances, and especially his gorgeous orchard in AAAAAAppleoosa! Dislikes: Being interrupted, being late or lateness in others, unneighborly folks, being told he cannot do something, bad western performances, confrontation, wastefulness (especially in regards to food) Character Summary: When he was growing up, he was always working 'on his dam's farm', or pulling 'his uncle's plow'.  Even when he got a blue ribbon at fair, it was 'just like his older cousin' or 'just like his grandsire.'  It never felt like he was really achieving something for his own, just trying to live up to what the rest of the family had already done. Braeburn wanted more - he wanted to make something with his own four hooves, not just repeat what everypony before him had done. One day he took out a map of his clan's orchards, and realized there was a big gap down south where no one had anything.  He decided this is the place to start his own orchard, a place where nopony else had.  When they told him he couldn't grow an orchard in the desert, that just made him all the more determined to prove his mouth wasn't making promises his hooves couldn't keep. Braeburn thus has taken his knowledge, skill and personal enthusiasm to start anew on the frontier in an attempt to establish his own apple orchard and business in a region that lacks both, as one of the founders of the new frontier town of Appleoosa. His strong personality and friendly nature allows him to quickly greet and welcome visitors to the new town, eager to show them all Appleoosa has to offer. Quite personally and directly, if necessary! Opinions please, but I think I have this set.
  15. The only portion I found to be very weird was the steam whistle, which means steam engine normally, and one that would be operating, which begs the question why ponies at all. However I generally overlook any technological goofiness for the sake the magical whimsical nature of the show and just imagine Equestria as rather magically imputed in itself.
  16. That's cool, although I didn't think it was heated at all.
  17. Sadly this is an example of poor reporting by the media who plastered on their article title, "Bacteria from Mars found inside ancient meteorite", when in fact there is no bacteria. It was the opinion of the scientist who studied the meteor that features discovered within make look like bacteria, however scientifically their is yet sufficient evidence to draw such a conclusion. The media often mixes opinion with evidence and that is why we get headlines like above. The claims are interesting, the pictures intriguing, but we are a long, long way from knowing whether the claim is valid or not. Sadly the chances that the meteorite has been contaminated by terrestrial bacteria (if its indeed bacteria) is much greater than any Martian life, all things being equal.
  18. Nope, we haven't found any evidence yet of actual fossilized remains of any sort of life whatsoever yet on Mars.
  19. There is a couple things wrong here. First, you are not describing a theory of science, you are describing a hypothesis in science. Scientists observe that Mars holds evidence of the possibility of past life, mostly due to the observations and evidence it once had surface water. From this the hypothesis is created that Mars may have had life. A prediction is made on this hypothesis, that there are the remains of past microbial life in the soil. In order for "past life on Mars" to become a theory, experiments would need to be performed that show the prediction to be correct, and then the experiments have to be independently repeated by others and those results have to show the same evidence and thus conclusions. Only then would you have a theory, when clear evidence shows such life existed, and thus no faith is needed, otherwise its either still a hypothesis or shown to be completely falsified. Also 100% proof, that only exists in mathematics. Any theory in science has the possibility of being falsified, or show not true, with future experimentation and observation, therefore no theory is 100% absolute. Because we have laws of gravity, which are repeatedly observed phenomena that can be measured, such as Newton's Law of Gravity, which is a mathematical formula can show to always be true through experimentation. We know it exists because of the observed effects. A theory is an explanation of why gravity works, not that it exists.
  20. Carrot Fields had a plan, well really more just an idea.  He needed to generate business, after all what good is a farm if no one buys your crop, and how can they buy your crop if they don't know who you are.  Thus the idea of offering a gift basket of carrots to the various food merchants in Ponyville, a nice way to let them know about the newest farmer in town and hopefully, just hopefully create a customer base. He decided to try that new looking cafe near the center of town; it looked busy, which of course meant it needed a lot of food supplies for the daily food.  Cafes have muffins after all, and one of Carrot's favorite among those were the carrot muffins.  Maybe he could persuade them to make a regular order to fill their need for carrots!  It certain couldn't hurt to try - and besides, he was already very hungry... Carrot unhooked himself from the cart he was pulling along and stretched, cracking his back before he picked out the top basket of fresh carrots with his teeth.  He approached the front door and hesitated, taking a deep breath to steady himself.  He wasn't the salespony his father was, nor was he as enthusiastic about carrots as the rest of his clan.  Still, he was here, and it wasn't like he hadn't done this before, when his dad sent him in with baskets of carrots to charm the business owners. Carrot walked in from the bright sunlight into the dark interior and paused once more, quickly blinking his eyes to become used to the much dimmer lighting.  Even before his eyes adjusted, he could hear the murmur and hubbub of the cafe.  The place was quite busy with a large variety of customers - earth ponies, unicorns, pegasai - one pegasus was especially large - and even a griffon, which was a surprise to see. He looked ahead and walked towards the counter, hoping to not look too odd holding a basket of carrots in his mouth, and waited patiently if a bit nervously for his turn in line.  When it was finally his turn, he put down the basket, and merrily greet Mocha with, "Bonnie day innit?  Bonnie day fir a free sample, too!  New farm here in town, glad tae offer ye a sample!  We'd love tae have yer business!  An' while Oi'm here, Oi'll be gald tae order a muffin, me belly t'inks me t'roat's bin cut!"
  21. In science, a theory needs a body of evidence to support it. A theory in science explains some observations in the material universe, and these include explanations and predictions that can be tested. If you cannot test these explanations or predictions, or they are not falsifiable, then it isn't a theory of science. Usually a theory is based on a long term body of work built over time on experimental observation and repeated testing by various people (if others cannot repeat your experiments using the same conditions and methods, then the theory also fails). Faith does not come into it, as it is all about what can be shown, measured, and repeated, not what is believed.
  22. They are all very cool. So what did you use to ink and color them?
  23. Honestly I can imagine several colts having that. Rarity is in my view, someone who is supposed to be "stunning" among fillies and thus probably gets a lot of male attention, even if its completely passive like an unrequited crush.
  24. My suggestion is to develop a cutie mark for him and build the character around that. Because names in FiM are closely tied to the mark, ideas will probably start coming naturally once you start building around the mark you create for him. You say ride ATVs, which don't exist in the FiM universe, but it does sounds like someone who likes to be outdoors in the country, perhaps exploring the country, or enjoys forests, fields, etc. Perhaps build on a mark around those concepts?
