  1. The sudden impact with the pegasus sent Gearly tumbling over the ground in a jumbled heap, his corroded gear about his neck clinking on the cobble of the road as it came to meet the ground. Dazed and confused, he spontaneous meeting caused the poor colt to nearly leap out of his pelt as he scrambled to put distance between the unknown obstruction and himself. In a fit of panic, mistaking the accident for an attack by a rogue changeling, he managed to call out a few words of discouragement, riddled with fear, "Y-you'll not e-eat me monster!" Pulling his form from the ground, Gearly quickly stood, poised to bolt from the "attacker" but instead finding a blue-grey mare with a pare of wings sprouting from he sides. A sigh of relief escaped his lips and he began to speak before catching himself; could this not be a changeling in disguise? But why would a monstrous changeling apologize and proceed to ask if he was okay. Dropping his guard, for just a moment, Gearly dusted himself off, quickly mumbling an apology of his own, "Sorry, d-din't mean tah bump i-intah ya..." The stress of the moment frazzled him to the point he'd let his country accent slip through his normally very precise pronunciation. The commanding voice of a pony unseen caused the poor colt to jump once again, yelping out in alarm and darting slightly toward the only other pony in sight, a "safety in numbers" mentality taking hold. Pausing a few paces away from, the as of yet unknown, Rain Maker, Gearly let out a weak chuckle and called out into the darkness, his voice wavering and uncertain, "N-nopony important, ju-just a lost traveler..."
  2. A quiet clacking echoed from the emptied storefronts and through the quiet streets as a steel-grey colt trotted over the cobblestone streets. The rusted and pitted gear, hanging from the a length of twine, swayed from side-to-side as he made his way down the street the deserted boulevard. A half-frozen gust of wind rushed down the street, tousling the young colt's short leather-brown mane and tail. A sudden shudder ran through Gearly's form, either from the bitter cold of night or from being by his lonesome so soon after the assault on Canterlot. His brisk trot paused, looking up toward the bright moon, Gearly quietly cursed his foolish decision to leave his vest behind. "Ho-horse feathers! I-it got-t cold f-fast...", he mumbled to no pony in particular. He quickly regretted uttering any noise at all, fearful a stray changling would be attracted by the sound, the scent of his breath, or whatever other senses the abominations used to hunt their prey. Quickly, Gearly started to a canter, only slightly faster than before, having spooked himself into getting inside as quickly as possible.

  8. As Gearly sat, pondering the mysterious Captain Dusk Sky, something deep within the whirring cogs and gears of his mind clicked; something about the odd pegasus was reminiscent of his mother. Such would definitely explain why the stranger seemed so unfamiliar, and yet tickled at the memories lost in the far-flung reaches of his mind. Still, Gearly was unsure if his hunch was right, and did not wish to risk embarrassment. Cautiously, Gearly slipped to the table which had seated the the hard-working mares, glancing carefully to the captain. "By any chance, Miss Sky, and please pardon my curiosity, but do you happen to travel abroad? There seems to be an air of familiarity to you, but... I haven't spent much time beyond the farm my family owns..." Gearly continued for a moment or two, dropping the name of his family casually when naming the farm. Hopefully, if the pony was who he thought she might be, there was a chance she would pick up on the hint, or person she'd already figured it out. Gearly hadn't any way of knowing.
  9. Still pondering the mechanics of improving the delivery of orders, food, and beverages, Gearly sat down, lightly huffing quietly as he attempted to catch his breath. He was no stranger to work, though the work he was accustomed to had often been slow and plodding; there was always so much to do on the farm, but the farm had been relatively large and it took more than a few hours to plow the field. This system of work, though, was alien to Gearly; rushing to and fro as quickly as possible, carrying nothing more than bits of information. All the effort seemed to be a waste of potential, but no grand and elegant contraptions that would alleviate the problem sprang to mind. Resting at one of the now deserted tables, lost in one of his nearly constant day dreams, Gearly was roused from his near-sleeping state by, and reminded of the presence of, the golden-yellow mare who had so eagerly chipped in to help. Something about the stranger seemed to tickle the back of his brain, though he couldn't put his hoof on it. Perhaps she was someone who he saw in town on one of his many trips, though that didn't seem like the right answer. Losing focus once again, Gearly scrutinized the pegasus carefully, looking for any sort of clue as to where he knew her from.
  10. Gearly continued to scurry about, taking orders to and fro, helping as best he could as his mind wandered from the dull and menial task. He began to wonder if there were a better way to accomplish the task he'd be caring to for what seemed quite some time. As he contemplated the process of transporting the material of the order versus the information contained upon, he continued to work. After what seemed mere moments, the lunch crowd had gone and passed, leaving a significantly lighter workload for the, albeit temporary, relatively large work force now running the restaurant.
  11. Wait...a wild me has appeared? I am now very confused.
  12. Pinkie Pie doesn't simply walk into Mordor. She skips. Pinkie Pie didn't need 12 parsecs to make the Kessel run. She doesn't even know what a Kessel is!
  13. Ponderous Pinkie Pie Possibility #1: Pinkie Pie can have the HD version of that day's episode for everyone to see in glorious 1080p(ony).... 5 minutes after the credits roll.
  14. While talking to Armony, I had an idea. It runs parallel to the "Chuck Norris" meme. But instead Pinkie Pie. I propose we list all the things Pinkie Pie CAN do that defy reason, logic, and the petty rules of reality and laws of physics. Bonus points if you come up with your own fantastically fun and fabulous f-alliteration.
  15. Gearly's head dipped once in a polite nod, smiling as he helped his friend Stormsong. "It's not a problem at all Stormsong... Back on the farm, if not everyone helped, nothing got done." Gearly glanced to the table, making a note of the table's position before dashing back towards the kitchen to facilitate the cooks' and waiters' jobs. He clearly knew that the way in which he was helping was not of the utmost importance, but the job took time, and with the staff on hoof, there simply wasn't enough time to go around; so Gear donated his own time, merely glad to help.
  16. I definitely imagine it would have been on Gearly's mother's side. His father's family has been farmers for generations. Possibly Gearly's mother and Dusk's father were brother and sister? It wouldn't seem too unlikely the consider a blacksmith part of such a technological interest.
  17. Seems like it would be VERY interesting. The family is mostly plain and simple farmers, but there is the black-sheep Gearly who is my technologically minded. Perhaps there's something in the family line that just pulls certain ponies to such advanced technological marvels? I'd love to have you a member of the family!
  18. Could you maybe tell me more about Dusk Sky, or give me a link to her application if she has one? A cousin would be pretty easy to do. I know Armony wanted to do a cousin of my family as well.
  19. My main idea was every member of the family would have some job on the farm. Yoked is the work horse of the family and Gearly is/was the mechanic. Just about anything other concept would be fine with me.
  20. Any comments? Anyone interested in helping my expand my OC's family?

  22. I watched this get drawn! So jelly of these skills.
  23. It's final now. (Hopefully) There's a bit more to his family interactions, but I feel that's not really necessary here.
  24. I think I got a good start on his story, maybe 1 or 2 more paragraphs to put out where is and what he's doing. I dunno.
