The Coltaran Chronicles: Prologue Part One (OPEN)

Recommended Posts

Greetings, everypony! Welcome to the latest installment of my "Coltaran Chronicles" RP series. As a gift to my CC fans for our 100th reply in the Coltaran thread (Wewt!), I decided to give you all a special RP thread based on the CC Lore...one that will no doubt interest many of you.

For those who are familiar with the Coltaran lore, you might recall me mentioning an exodus by the Heavani ponies, taking with them Queen Marella's two daughters. Well, this thread will enlighten you on what happened, and how it ties to Coltara and Equestria. Here is probably the mind-bomb you would/wouldn't expect...

Princess Celestia and Princess Luna...they are the two daughters of Queen Marella! Shocking, yes? It gets better. We all know that Celestia and Luna possess demi-god power...well, the reason for that is probably because they are the GRANDFOALS of a god, and the god who made all of pony-kind, no less! That's right, they are Astral Magus' wittle foalies :kissy: .

In either case, the setting of this RP is the journey out from Heavana, and into what is now known as Equestria. Through the course of the threads, you will discover the origins of our two favorite princesses...and of Equestria itself. So, fillies and gentlecolts, be prepared for the journey of a life-time!

Unlike my other RP thread, I will not be taking on a major character here. I will simply be playing the NPCs and influence the world around you all. Now, my original idea was this:

Six RP slots are available, one for each of the Mane Six's ancestors. You'll have free reign on OC creation, but I would like them to be the forestallions/foremares for the Mane Six...a sort of way to express that they were connected in the past as well. Just like the show, these Six will have a gigantic impact on the creation of Equestria and the fate of the two Princesses. Choose wisely.

Twilight Sparkle's Ancestor: Magnus Devora (TotalEclipse)

Applejack's Ancestor: (Slot Open)

Pinkie Pie's Ancestor: (Slot Open)

Rarity's Ancestor: (Slot Open)

Rainbow Dash's Ancestor: (Slot Open)

Fluttershy's Ancestor: Soaringeye (Fermata)

Once all six spaces are filled, the RP will begin :) if you all have any questions, or would like to apply for a character slot, please do so in this thread.

One more thing: Before doing any of this, please refer to the lore in my CC OOC in the Equestria Cross-over section of the Free RPs, and read up on it a bit.

The RP will begin with the exodus from the mythical Heavani capital of Golden Mane, where all of the kingdom's ponies are gathering to prepare their journey over the Mountains of Mist, in a chance to escape the invading armies of Rainor and Saharai. Knowing that her doom is arriving quickly, Queen Marella knew that the best thing she could do for her ponies and her two daughters, Princesses Celestia and Luna, was to send them away, to the land beyond the Mists. With the soon-to-be absence of the Queen, six elders have been chosen to lead the Exodus, two of each race. Given the gift of immortality, they would act as stewards until the Princesses could assume the throne once more. Under their guidance, the ponies of Heavana venture deep into the Mountains of Mists...never to be seen again by another Coltaran's eyes. So begins a story of old...one forgotten by the ages, one that will define how the world is today.

-Faithful servant of the Empress,

Grand Librarian Valence, Ruling Lady of Harin'Dor.

(Edit: If you are wondering how to make an OC app, it is basically the same as the app on the Coltaran Chronicles OOC.)

Alright, sorry about the delay ^^' school has kept me rather busy, and I was only able to put that post last night on my phone. I'll get right to it.

As for being Fluttershy's Ancestor, please make an OC (similar to the apps on my CC RP, using the Coltaran attributes), and post it on here :) Now the character does not need to be like Fluttershy in any way. In fact, it might be interesting to see a polar opposite.

That's actually what I had in mind, darling.

Birth Name: Angel

Destined Name: Soaringeye

Sex: Female

Age: Mare

Species: Pegasus

Nationality: Heavana

Organization: None

Social Class: Commoner

Eye Color: Stark Red

Coat Color: Dull Yellow (i.e Fluttershy's color)

Mane and Tail: Long, flowing mane and tail (i.e Fluttershy's styles), both naturally a charcoal gray with stripes in colors similar to her coat running through.

Physique: Tall, but thin from lack of food. Her legs are almost bone thin in particular, while her wings are stubbier and weaker than an average pegasus. Her face is lined with worry lines and generally marred by signs of age and weariness. She wears a beaten burlap traveling cloak at all times.

Destiny Mark: Three diving birds of prey. These birds appeared in Soaringeye's first battle, and represent both her legendary awe inspiring power in combat and her equally legendary terrible flying ability.

Residence: Born in Golden Mane, currently en route to Equestria.

Occupation: Solider along with the procession, is known as a war hero.

Personality: Soaringcry is silent, not because of any inherent shyness, but rather due to an inverse: a strong affinity with others to the point where she almost never needs to say anything to know what others are thinking and what they want. She is worldly, wise, and has seen much in her time; as her less than beautiful countenance suggests. She will often not speak even when directly spoken to, as she is of the sort who thinks that actions speak far louder than words. Due to this, she is decisive and almost brutally short with others, and physical violence is something she easily resorts to over diplomacy. She is not particularly kind- is cold blooded even- and she often doles out the worst punishments possible when she must judge others. She has a soft spot for animals, however, and takes care of those ponies managed to sequester from Heavana, including a tribe of rabbits not native to Equestria.

Family: Her family as far back as records will go have been commoners, and they are presumed to have been wiped out in the war.

History: Angel was born into a family of pegasus farmers; farmers because they had a hereditary trait passed down through the generations that made them weak fliers and thus marked them as unfit for the status afforded to most of their brethren. From a young age, Angel was expected to work hard, and work hard she did. Her life held little joy, save for those times when she was sent into the capital on trips of business. Angel loved the crowds, loved the energy of Golden Mane. A little pegasus filly as cute as she was was afforded much leeway, and she was able to speak with many people of influence and win over the hearts of some of Heavana's elite. Thus she won her family the support of a minor pegasus noble, who made them his servants: a hard life to be sure, but better than where Angel had come from.

Angel worked in this capacity for a while, content with her life and not eager to find her destiny. It instead came to her, with the war between the three children of Astral Magus. Almost immediately Angel's immediate family and the noble sponsoring them were called to battle. They left for war, and are presumed to have died. For five years, Angel was alone in the home, charged to keep it while the noble was away at war. Nopony ever came. Until the forces of Saharai and Rainor came to the city to sack it and execute Marella. Angel stubbornly, quietly kept to her duty in her home; knowing there would be no escape. She was no flier, she could not fight, and she had no desire to flee. She accepted her fate willingly, to die a lonely young mare with no destiny and no future should she escape death's grasp.

When the siege broke the walls, the queen was dead, and enemy forces began marching, however, she proved to be more than a match for them. Despite her inability to fly, Angel proved an ferocious and terrifying opponent due to her almost supernatural ability to strike fear into the hearts of her enemies with just her gaze. Her eyes, dull and listless, suddenly burned bright red when they tried to take her life. Ponies would cower before her, friends and enemies alike. She saved many individuals, and without even knowing it was a significant help to the remaining Heavanan forces as they evacuated the city. Soaringeye, named by allies and enemies alike for her now legendary fear-inspiring eyes and (wrongly) for her impressive flight, not only found her destiny, but helped her country survive it's darkest hour. Of course, even she was not invincible, and she joined the army in their final desperate move; routing the opposing forces long enough for the evacuation to commence.

The operation was a success, and the ragtag remains of Heavana escaped into the mists. Though their spirits were flagging with their queen's death, the people at large were still safe and had heroes to rejoice in for their survival. Knowing her people needed her, Soaringeye decided she would serve her nation to her last breath.

Birth Name: Sihir

Destined Name: Magnus Devora

Sex: Male

Age: Stallion

Species: Unicorn

Nationality: Heavana

Organization: None

Social Class: Prisoner

Eye Color: Silver

Coat Color: Ashen Gray

Mane and Tail: Wild and unkept (from being imprisoned), Jet black mane and tail, both with a silver and ash gray streak running through them.

Physique: Average height, surprisingly fit for a pony that has been a prisoner.

Destiny Mark: Vicious demon with gaping jaws and sharp teeth.

demon_06.png

Residence: Birthplace unknown/ currently imprisoned beneath Gold Mane

Occupation: Prisoner/ weapon.

Personality: Devora is quick witted, intelligent, and patient. There was a time when he was wary about being around other ponies, but that was while he was in the Cult of the World Eater. Before his imprisonment he was quite the social butterfly, after his escape he became more withdrawn, but he became more chaotic and prone to acting on impulse (he vowed to never be bound again). His mind always craves for knowledge and he is never content doing the same thing for very long.

Family: Parents presumed dead, no siblings, no known relatives. Ponies from the Cult of the World Eater (all dead).

History: There is an old tale that speaks of the coming of a pony whose hunger is insatiable, a pony who will eat everything whether it be physical or magical - a great devourer whose presence will help change the the world. He would be recognizable by his mark, a great beast with a deadly maw. To many this is just a fairy tale or a fictional story, but to a small group of mares and stallions this is a prophecy. One that gives them hope for a brighter future.

This group occupied a small, homely building in Golden Mane where they held their rituals in peace and were never disturbed by the citizen of the city, nor the military stationed at Golden Mane. During one of their ceremonies the cult was disturbed by the loud, rapid knocks on the door to their sanctuary. When the ponies inside answered the door all they found was a wicker basket with a young foal bundled snugly inside, seeing no pony around, they decided to take the foal inside. Most of the cultists believed that turning the foal over to the city would be for the best, but the leader of the cult, a mare named Silken Breeze, decided against it. The mare explained that she believe the foal was special in some way and perhaps giving him to the city was not for the best. Silken, sensing the large amount of magic from the foal, named him Sihir and declared that from that day forward she would be his mother.

Raised by the cult, he learned of many things, but mostly about the war between the siblings and the prophecy of The World Eater; however, this wasn't enough for the young unicorn. He wanted to learn about the world outside, he wanted to talk to other ponies, he wanted to know more magic - In short if it could be known he wanted to know it. Sihir brought his concerns to his surrogate mother, at first Silken could only rise an eyebrow at her son and tell him about the cult's limited contact policy. Sihir, being a smart alec proposed that he be given the responsibility of handling most of their outside matters, claiming that it would both satisfy his curiousness and allow fewer cult ponies to have to make contact with the city outside of the sanctum. Silken could only shrug and agree, after all Sihir was absolutely correct.

Sihir abused his new found freedom, every errand he was given took him nearly the entire day to complete. He traveled through the capital and went to libraries to study magic and anything else he found interesting, tried to talk to everypony he saw, but being a shut int cult member isn't exactly the best thing for a ponies social skills. As time went on his social skills and improved as did his magical abilities.

One evening he was tasked with preparing the sanctum for service he figured that the entire process would be faster if he used his magic to do everything all at once, but he'd never used that much magic before. Confident in his skills he went ahead with his plan. It worked smoothly until he neared the end of the preparations and hit rock bottom in magical energy. At that moment it was as if he was hollow inside, he hungered for any and everything that could possibly fill the hole inside of him. In the spur of the moment he lashed out with the emptiness inside of him and began drawing in as much magic as he could, but it wasn't enough, he wanted - no he needed more. The walls were food, the candles and the chairs all food to him. Everything around him was destroyed instantaneous destroyed and sent to Marella know's where. Silken sensing an enormous void in magical energy rushed to where the disturbance was coming from. In the middle of the room, she found Sihir sprawled out unconscious in the middle of the large room surrounded by destruction. The floors walls and ceiling were covered in bite marks, as if some sort of monster had been let loose in the room. Silken knew better though, she ran up to Sihir and rolled the young stallion over so that she could see his chest, and as she expect he bore the mark of the prophesied one. Marella felt the disturbance in magic, same as silken. The next day she briefed and mobilized a small force of soldiers and sent them to the Cult of the World Eater's sanctum to bring her the source of the disturbance.

The soldiers arrived at the sanctum and as instructed simply explained the situation to the Cultist. they were told, not to accept no for an answer and that they could use nonlethal force to search the premise and seize whatever they thought was suspicious. Silken moved Sihir behind her, but even from behind the mares flank he could she that the situation would turn violent if they didn't give him up. Sihir bravely stepped forward and explained that he was the cast of the disturbance. The commanding officers stepped forward and moved Sihir's cloak to the side in order to investigate his destiny mark, and just as Marella had briefed there on his chest sat the mare of a vicious beast. Silken Breeze plead with the soldiers not to take him, but to no avail.

The soldiers took Sihir straight to Queen Marella as instructed. The queen inspected the young stallion. She soon concluded that he was in fact the one in the prophecy, but she didn't have time to deal with all of this, especially with all that was going on, but she also declared him much to dangerous to himself and her subjects to roam free. With a heavy heart she condemned him to imprisonment in a cavern below the city, he was to be completely bound at all times by magic draining chains and no pony was to ever enter or exit his chamber.

He was dragged off never to be seen again. As he was drug away Marella dubbed him, Magnus Devora and shed a tear for the pony whom she had just condemned.

Devora sat quietly in the center of his cavern for nearly two years sustained by nothing more then the magical energy and matter he devoured through unseen means. He didn't hate Marella, he knew his power was scary and he understood why she had done what she did.

The war on the surface world continued to escalate and Marella was quickly losing control of the situation. She had a contingency plan, but it wasn't fool proof it needed some reinforcing. She had Devora brought to her, she had an offer for the unicorn. She proposed to him limited freedom in exchange for his service to her; he was to be trained and used as a sort of super weapon and at when not needed he would be locked up in the caverns again, but otherwise he was allowed to act as he wished (but not allowed any contact with the Cult of the World Eater), but under the supervision of an escort. With nothing better to do he accepted the terms and was immediately taken away for his training.

The stallion took to war magics easily, quickly becoming more adept at it then his peers and teachers, his ability to grasp concepts and apply them plus his massive magical pool made him a frightening unicorn. Marella, regretting what she had done, to Devora did her best to keep the youth occupied with assignments so that he wouldn't have to be locked in the caverns again. He was sent from battlefront to battlefront as needed. During which he secretly practiced controlling his power of consumption as he grew to call it.

The war hit a certain peak, and most of Heavani's forces were recalled to Golden Mane and Magnus Devora along with them.

Once back in the capital Devora was summoned to speak with the queen in private. She devulged unto him exactly what was happening; her plan for diplomacy, how she didn't think it would work, how she expected to be killed, the evacuation, and sending her daughters away with the evacuees. She told him that she wanted him to accompany the evacuees, to defend them and her daughters and to help them start a new world. The tone of her voice told him, that this wasn't an order, but a personal promise. A favor to a mare who knew her time was ending. He promised her that he would do all he could. She put him on standby until the time came, but before he was sent away she gave him a book of spells and a saddlebag.

Even locked up in the caverns under the city he could sense when the forces of Rainor and Saharai seized the city, he knew that the Queen's talks had failed, like she suspected they would and that she had been killed. Quickly he consumed the chains that bound him, like he could've from day one, and exited the caverns. no pony stood guard, no forces could be spared to watch him. As soon as Devora made it to the surface he deviated from the agreed plan and rushed to check on Sanctum he was raised in.

His home was razed in the urban fighting. Devora sifted through the wreckage, getting ash all through his coat. He found the bodies of many ponies that he had called friends and family but he didn't have the time to mourn, he had to find at least find Silken, if only for the closure. after nearly an hour of searching he eventually found his mother, though he wished he hadn't. Her body was burned, and beaten, several limbs were pointing at unnatural angles and he head was snapped so far in one direction there was no way her neck could not have been broken. He searched the area and little more, upturning large boards and stone pillars as he searched. He found the bodies of several Heavani and Rainor soldiers under the last bits of rubble he searched. The soldiers must have died defending this family he conclude. He swallowed his pain, left the wreckage of the sanctum.

He quickly dispatched any enemies in his path and joined with whatever Heavani army stragglers he could collect. Together they caused what they hoped was enough of a distraction to allow the the evacuation to be successful.

With the evacuation as much of a success as could be expected, Devora and his small band withdrew from the city. They caught up with the evacuees and joined their ranks after the soldier presented their credentials, nothing needed to be said for Devora as most ponies in the military knew of him. Looking back towards the buring capital city, steeled Devora's resolve to follow through on his promise.

He moved to the head of the group were he figured the Queen's foals would be and prepared for the journey. In his mind, Marella had redeemed herself of the wrongs she did to him and in her time of weakness given him a very personal task. A task, that he would not fail.

[OOC: When he devours magical energy it just gets absorbed into his body, he can rip it out of other creatures but he doesn't like to but when he devours matter it looks like this

He can also enter a magic overload state like twilight, but it happens when he is out of magic.]

Imperial Archives:

Ancient Kingdoms in the Age of Roses

Heavana, Elder Kingdom of Lights:

"...known as the first of Coltara's three ancient kingdoms, it was originally formed by the deity Astral Magus, with his three foals beside him. These three foals, the first of the small Alicorn race (which is now extinct here in Coltara), inherited the continent-wide kingdom after their father passed from this world. Ruling as a triumvirate, they spread a message of peace and unity throughout the land. However, these siblings were no different from our own. Squabbling over who would be the official King or Queen of Heavana, the two youngest broke away from Heavana and their older sister, forming the new kingdoms of Rainor to the south-west, and Saharai to the south-east. Under the rule of Queen Marella, the ancient kingdom grew prosperous and strong, becoming a world leader in science, magic, and philosophy. By the year 1914 P.B (Pre-Blight), the sister kingdoms of Saharai and Rainor declared war on the large Heavani nation. While the reasons for this are commonly disputed amongst scholars, many sources proclaim that it was out of greed or spite that the war began. After five years of catastrophic warfare, the citizens of Heavana mysteriously disappeared, leaving nothing but their Queen and homes behind. Their whereabouts are unknown, except for the knowledge that they retreated over the Mountains of Mist at Coltara's eastern border. With the arrival of the armies of Rainor and Saharai at the glorious capital of Golden Mane, King Stalliar of Rainor declared the city dead, and executed his elder sister, using her blood to defile the statue of Astral Magus as an act of defiance. Ever since, no pony has seen the majestic city since the First Cataclysm. The provinces and city states that currently reside on Heavani land are: Ashen Gate, Coltan's Rest, and Icewalker's Dominion." - Imperial Archive #193

Saharai, Middle Kingdom of Sands:

"...created by the middle foal of the Three Alicorn Rulers, Coltan broke away from the land of his sister with his fellow ponies to the south-east. Believing that a nation should be held tightly by its reins, Coltan acted as a militaristic dictator within his capital Harin'Dor. While not a tyrant, Coltan possessed much power within his dominion, which extended from the southern portion of the Mountains of Mist to the Sandspire Desert. Under his rule, the military state became advanced in technology and innovation, similar to how Harin'Dor is today. Also, Saharai is known to have crafted the first Aishanidari, which were few in number and given only to the highest in command. Created in a set of ten, these first Aishanidari possessed power just below to that of a Likael'Maga...and were thus rather destructive. Allying with it's sister nation of Rainor, Saharai began to shine as a militaristic superpower, leading many of the successful campaigns and conquests during the War of the Roses. With the defeat of Heavana, Saharai soon later found Rainor to be a target as well...mainly due to Coltan's anger at Stalliar for the rash decision to execute their sister, and the defilement that Stalliar had commited in Golden Mane. When the next war started, Saharai had found itself evenly matched against the smaller Rainor for two decades, before a cataclysmic explosion rocked Coltara and practically torn apart both of the warring kingdoms. Provinces and city-states that currently lie on Saharai land are: Harin'Dor, Moonrise City, and Skyroost. - Imperial Archive #194

Rainor, Younger Kingdom of Waves:

"...being the smallest of the three kingdoms, it was by far from the weakest. Led by Stalliar, Rainor was known as the freest land in Coltara. A land of opportunity, strength, and the advancement of spiritual enlightenment. Centered around the capital of Riptide Bay, its sea-trade to other continents made the nation explode with economic prosperity. Despite the peaceful existence that the Rainorans possessed, each and every one of them envied their Heavani bretheran. Stalliar himself shared this envy (and also possibly the cause of it), and secretly gathered his forces for a war with their sister kingdoms. Wanting more wealth, power, and land...the swiftly growing nation soon formed an alliance with Saharai and invaded Heavana. After five years of gruesome warfare, they emerged victorious, taking the spoils that lay within Heavana. However, as a nation that had grown based on hatred and envy, they soon decided as a whole to obtain Saharai's land as well. With the outbreak of the second war, Stalliar forged onward with the help of his ponies. After two decades of a bloody stalemate, Rainor finally suffered a terrible end with the First Cataclysm. Riptide Bay was destroyed by a massive tsunami, wiping out its inhabitants...however, it was later rebuilt at the beginning of the Age of Blight." - Imperial Archive #195

Hi there folks! I was hoping I could join in as Rarity's ancestor. This is a work in progress at the moment since I haven't finished her backstory, but I would still like feedback, particularly whether or not I took too many artistic liberties by adding gypsies. (Personally I think it would be funny if Rarity's ancestor wore garish, insane clothing as gypsies are known to do ;-))

Name(s):

- Birth Name: Moonlight

- Destined Name: Tambourine

Sex: Female

Age: Mare

Species: Unicorn

*Nationality: Heavani

**Organization: None

***Social Class: Gypsy

Eye Color: Light blue

Coat Color: White

Mane/tail: Violet

Physique: Slender

Cutie Mark/Destiny Mark: A tambourine with a multicolored arrow on it, acquired on the day she first danced with the other mares at the caravan’s summer solstice celebration. It represents her passion for music and destiny as a leader.

Origin/Residence: She was born in the caravan, lived in the caravan, and always thought she’d die in the caravan. It seems fate had other plans for her though.

Occupation: Traveling merchant and seamstress. Like many ponies in the caravan, she can work wonders with fabric as well as her fated instrument, but the tambourine is not an instrument to be played just to make a few coins. The Heavani gypsies consider it to be the most sacred of musical tools, and are rarely seen playing it outside their camps.

Personality: Tambourine is a very emotional pony. She moves with the flow of events and reacts based on her emotions and instinct rather than firm logic. She is a wild free spirit and is just as likely to dance and sing as to weep and rage. Years of leading the caravan have led her to be extremely confident and almost narcissistic at times. She fiercely protects the members of her caravan.

Family: Her parents left the caravan fifteen years before when it became too large to maintain as a single unit. The caravan of back then had split into two smaller groups, one led by Light Scarf and her husband Wooly, and the other led by Tambourine. She has a younger brother and sister that stayed with her, though she treats them more like her children than her siblings.

Background Story: Moonlight was born in the middle of winter to Light Scarf and Wooly. She was a precious little foal and her parents loved her dearly. She grew up on the move, traveling with her parents and extended relatives in the caravan as they wandered the countryside, carefree and whimsical. At the time the caravan consisted of at least fifteen families, about seven of them related while the other eight consisted of regular ponies who sought a different way of living. For a group that made their living off foraging and entertaining (sometimes trading homemade goods for crafted ones) the high number of families was disconcerting.

Moonlight was taught by her parents and the other adults in the caravan as she grew up. Her education wasn’t as good as it might have been in a real school in the cities, but what skills and knowledge she did learn, she learned well. Tailoring and music were her particular favorites growing up, eventually leading her to gain her Destiny Mark when she danced and played the tambourine at the summer celebration, leading a group of other fillies in a dance they’d made up.

About seven years after Tambourine gained her mark and new name, the caravan size problem came to a head. It was a regular practice among the gypsies; when a caravan got too big it would split and the two groups would go their separate ways. Simple in concept maybe, but after living with each other for two decades since the last split, nopony wanted to separate. It became apparent however that they were going to have to on a winter’s night, much like the night Tambourine was born, two ponies got into a furious fight over a loaf of bread. It wasn’t even good bread, it was week old, stale bread.

Penblade, your OC actually reminds me of a traveling group of ponies in Coltara, known as Seekers (or by their full title, Seekers of the Lost Art). However, so far in your OC's story, I see nothing about how the war affected Tambourine's caravan. Since the Rose War has had such an impact on Heavana for both peasants and nobles, that it seems very unlikely or nearly impossible that something didn't occur for them.

I like your character and her BG, and I understand that this is still a work in progress. So, perhaps you could bring to light anything that could have happened to them during the five-year time span?

This may or may not help you, but conscription and drafting existed in Heavana during the war. So, perhaps you can use that :) In either case, I'm looking forward to Tambourine.
