Roleplay Type: Mane RP

Name: Enos Gray

Sex: Male

Age: Young stallion

Species: Unicorn

Eye colour: A somewhat light orange. Its fairly pronounced, but not too bright.

Coat colour: Gray's coat is a dull grey. To give a comparison, it is somewhat iron colored, but its definitely faded somewhat.

Mane/Tail/Markings colour & Style: His mane and tail in colour are both around the same colour as blond hey, but both are just as dull as his coat in brightness. He prefers to keep his mane slightly longer than most stallions, but not by much at all, so it still looks somewhat short cropped. His tail is pretty much the same in style, except while his mane is a little long, his tail is a little short than most. After years of living in Canterlot, he also adopted a top hat so as to fit in better with some of the fancier ponies, which he tilts a little to the side.

Physique: As far as stallions go, Enos Gray is fairly average. He prefers to think he has the physique of a royal guard, and indeed he looks somewhat similar, but he falls just short in size, musculature, and pretty much everything. However, he is somewhat well toned, and can walk or hike long distances. Despite that, he still does lose his breath fairly quickly due to no fault on his own part.

Cutie Mark: Enos Gray's cutie mark is tuning fork. Rather simple in design, it is a solid silver colour and appears to be frozen in its image with a rather gentle vibration, as though it had been recently used. Although he has little musical talent as a tuning fork would normally be related too, Gray has always been fascinated with sound and noise related magic.

Origin: Although he had been born in Trottingham, he had moved to Canterlot at a fairly young age. Nowadays, he still lives in Canterlot, but he constantly leaves to see old friends, or to simply find somewhere a little easier to think,

Occupation: Enos Gray works as an inventor of spells, although he finds trouble with this most of the time, and has taken up various odd jobs, the most recent of which has been the stagehand in a lesser known Canterlot orchestra.

Motivation: Gray's main goal in life is too be remembered through his work. One could call him a bit obsessive about this, and perhaps he is occasionally, but to him success is measured by how many unicorns cast the spells he perfected during his life. Through all of his hard work, Gray hopes to improve his natural magic to the point of perfection.

Likes: Peace and quiet (when he's working), top hats, tea, sound, magic, music (he's a fine connoisseur of the arts), being indoors, cities or towns, the inventions of others, the hard work of others, and market places

Dislikes: Noise other than his own (when he's working), forests and other outdoor areas, anypony he finds distracting, dreadfully serious ponies, ponies who fancy themselves as nonstop pranksters, hello's and goodbye's, his own scattered brain (his accursed arch-nemesis)

Character Summary: As a foal, Enos was always tremendously inquisitive. He would spend entire afternoons trotting around the streets of Trottingham asking various people what they were doing or why they were doing it. Unlike most foals, who were just curious, he had several reasons in doing this. Even as a foal, his memory wasn't terribly perfect, and so he asked questions just because if he asked enough of them eventually he would remember something about individual ponies that would prevent him from forgetting silly things like names or such. Equally though, he was intrigued by just how different every pony sounded from each other. It really was an odd thought to him, hearing so many different voices especially on some days when the various streets would start becoming busier and busier with various vendors and shoppers. During these days, the young stallion would realize just how varied everypony was from each other, and he would go just a little overboard trying to meet all of the ponies, but strangely enough he'd only ever remember their voices, so that's how he differentiated between his peers and friends.

He didn't stay in Trottingham much longer than the earlier years of his life, because his father was a somewhat renowned pianist. He may not have been amazing, but he was good enough to be noticed by one of the many talent scouts from Canterlot (well, maybe there wasn't a terrible amount of them, but there was enough). Luckily, Gray's dad was just charismatic enough to be able to make it, and so before he knew it his family had moved to Canterlot. The move itself didn't affect little Gray much, because he never had much friends. Just a stunning amount of acquaintances. In all honesty, perhaps he was looking forward to a new location.

At first, Canterlot wasn't quite as exciting as he had hoped it would would be. He still enjoyed the days when the markets were extra busy, and they certainly were busy a lot (Canterlot is kind of a big deal). Really, nothing much different happened until he happened to stumble upon a book some earth pony mare had dropped. He would have returned it, but he simply couldn't remember what she looked like, and he found the book right after the mare had wandered into some crowd. So he kept it, and he read it, and Enos gray was completely fascinated by it. The book in question was on famous magicians throughout Equestrian history, and it detailed everypony from Starswirl the Bearded to Celestia herself. He must have read it three times over in a week, mainly because of just how perfectly cool it was that most of these ponies had voices and ideas that had lasted throughout history itself. Slowly, it became his goal to join their ranks as a famous magician himself. The only problem was, he was kind bad at magic.

At the very least, his lack of talent in the non-realistic sciences provided an amazing challenge for him to overcome. Still as a (somewhat older) foal, the first logical step he could come up with was to ask his parents. His father, an earth pony, didn't help much in the whole magic predicament but he did give Gray some advice. That is to say, the old stallion told him that part of being famous was having the right attitude. Ponies wanted to look up to those who stood the test of time, and Gray took this to heart. He would struggle with it a bit, but to him being at least polite seemed to be a bit of a core value. His mother, a unicorn, was able to help much more magically. Indeed, one could call him home schooled to a degree. Despite months of private training, poor Gray was only able to get the telekinesis spell down pat, and even then it wouldn't work farther than about ten hooves away.

Despite this, the stallion kept pushing forwards. One day, while doing his decidedly weekly event of walking down to the market and just listening to everypony, it occurred to him to look up any spells that could replicate noise, so he took it up as a sort of pet project. For at least a day or so, he visited various spell book shops and libraries looking for just the right spell, only to find very little in the form of sonic magic. Perhaps he was looking in the wrong places, or perhaps in a world where the power of gods was literally contained inside one's head, it hadn't occurred to anypony to make a spell for something as trivial as sound. Regardless of the answer, Gray failed his search, which lead him to the conclusion that if he couldn't find it, he'd make it up. He reasoned it shouldn't be too difficult if unicorns were already finding various magical skills out of the blue simply because it connected to their talents, so why shouldn't he be able to as well?

He spent many a night for the next several years finding out just how difficult it would be. Quite frankly, he had no idea where to start, and it took its toll on his optimism. Eventually, he grew frustrated and came fairly close to just giving up altogether. Perhaps he never would have gone anywhere with this, but now that his hobby and dreams were smashed, he had a lot a free time. His father decided that rather then mope about the house it would be nice to take him to see an orchestra he was playing in that evening. And it was a good thing he did, because as Gray sat there listening to the music, he came to an epiphany. For weeks and weeks, he was thinking of noise related magic as any other kind, which would be impossible for him to preform because as aforementioned, he sucked at most spells. Rather, he wondered if sound magic worked in very much the same way music did, only it involving using a unicorn's horn in place of an instrument or a voice box It seemed a little impractical to him as an idea in general, but then again, this was magic he was talking about.

With a renewed understanding, or at least with a different view on things, the now just turned stallion began started his progress on sound magic from scratch. And, in a stroke of what would call luck and others would call skill, Enos Gray actually managed to accomplish his goal. With a rough theory on sound and the interaction of the voice box and how it could be connected to various objects through a magical link, he had managed to perform a simple ventriloquism spell. This didn't satisfy him for long, because frankly it was rough, imperfect, and he couldn't get more than a sentence out of something at a time. With some practice, both on the spell and a small deviant on mimicking non-vocal sounds, he created a much more refined version of his prototype. This one, unlike the previous one, could get out at least several articulated sentences, and could mimic various voices (though they had to be similar to the original). The spell could even mimic the sounds of objects, such as a tuning fork. In fact, that was the sound Gray used to test his spell, and that to him was the sound of success. After a childhood of hard work, he had finally stumbled his very own magic that made him unique. A first chapter in what he expected to be a book, one could even say. He was so caught up in enjoyment, he didn't even notice his cutie mark had appeared.

When he did notice, it sort of just reaffirmed what he had already believed. That is to say, he knew he was destined to improve his own natural magic until it was flawless. As a full-fledged stallion with a clear picture of what he wanted from life, he decided it was high time he had his own house. Not that he didn't love his parents, but he needed a place that he could call his personal study. The only problem was, he couldn't think of a terribly effective way to make money to buy a Canterlot apartment with basic ventriloquism. So he decided to take up various odd jobs, such as a mailstallion, or shop assistant, or a secretary for one of the various socialites (that job was short lived, admittedly). Once he had enough money, he rented out a small little apartment in one of the slower corners of the capital. To him, it was perfect: not too big, not too loud, not too run down, and it was walking distance from the markets. Even then, he would still walk down and continue his habits of just listening to ponies. Although he could better remember names and faces, a voice was still the most distinguished feature of a pony to him.

And so he continued with his life. During the next few months he would switch jobs several times, eventually landing himself a position as the second-in-charge-of-managing-the-curtains to a up and coming orchestral group. Really, this was the first job that intrigued Gray, because he had a perfect earshot of some fairly good music. And he got payed for it! In between jobs and hobbies, he also learned two new of his very own spells: One which actually read letters aloud in the voice of those who wrote them (this one was very tricky to actually do, and he needed to actually get an imprint of the pony writing the letter's voice and imprint it on paper. Not easy at all) and the second one was more of an improvement on his first spell. This time around, he could get various accents out of voices, rather than just slight changes. But, he still juggles his life around, and hopes that one day he gets recognized for all of his hard work so as to join the great spellcasters of Equestria in history.

I apologize for the time this one's taking, but between mentally working out ideas with the app and my own life getting somewhat busy it very well could take a while. Or I could finish it tonight. It's all relative, and I'm fairly bad at judging lengths.

Ok. The one thing i see is the text size seems to change between small and big, so i'd stick to one size.

The other thing is his inventing of new spells. Most unicorns don't create new spells but have an ability plus some minor spells like telekinesis. Maybe instead of creating new spells, Graham can just have ones that amplify sound that he somehow discovered which led to getting his mark.

Yeah, okay. I can see where you're coming from. That shouldn't be to difficult of a rewrite.

Edit: Okie dokie loki, In theory I should be done. Most of the changes are semantical in nature, but it should look as though he didn't invent the spell, he just stumbled on his own brand of it, and rather than invent more spells, he strives to refine what he already has. No heavy re-writing, but I hope enough.

Hello.

It seems that there is another pony named Ghaham Cracker here, so you would need to change your name. I'd also get rid of the time travel reference as very few ponies know about that (Twilight was even surprised when she met her "future self").
