He was not one for rivers but this one had such a charm to it that Alabaster had gone through great lengths to slink his person into the cool stream, long flowing tail moving gracefully in the waters as he scoured the bottom for shining and smooth pebbles that would fit his current masterpiece. His mane streamed behind him like a pink and blue streamer that curled gently on the ends, the fins on his head twitching slightly, ready to bolt at the first sign of danger, for the forest and it’s inhabitants were strange and new to the Hippocamp whom was very far from his island home

.

Robins’ egg blue dipped hooves gently combed over the sandy bottom of the river with precision and determination, and the bright sky blue eyes of the male lit up as his hoof found a beautiful gemstone that had found it’s way from the mountains and to the water, it was the perfect addition to his newest piece! The stone was a princess cut and the smooth stone was a beautiful and rich purple, it was far from a perfect stone, having many flaws on the inside, but when hidden in say..a pendant or a necklace it would look like the inside was filled with many shards of glittering light!

He clutched the gem the size of a scallop shell in his hooves and did a gentle flip in the cold waters, a neigh escaping his mouth to express his delight and elation to have discovered such a treasure! He tucked it into the orange bag that hung over his shoulder and broke the surface of the rushing water, finding a rock to climb up on, upper body comfortably resting on the warm back of the rock, lower body hidden by the water, as his tail coiled around the stone in a gentle embrace.

“Today is going so wonderfully” His rich voice cooed contently as he rested his chin on his blue tipped hooves “It’s just simply …fabulous”

Steven Magnet had always appreciated the way the light of sun, the pony Princess’s golden orb, under which all of Equestria thrived and flourished, refracted through the waves and the ebb of his river home, projecting broad tentacles of light onto the surface of the muddy floor. The shapes it produced morphed by the second, and the sea serpent could just stare at it for hours on end, as the hypnotizing figures flashed from this to that. Sometimes he’d swish his leviathan of a tail about adjacent to the light beam, musing if he, with enough dexterity, could craft the shape into precisely the image he desired, and become their puppeteer. To be their controller, their ruler... Their undeniable ruler...

Other times, he just thought they looked pretty as he swam them by.

As of late, Steven has been frantically searching for ideas, for muses, for new forms of fashion of which he could utilize, or even invent. The reason for this seemingly manic search for clothing creation concepts? Why, he was selected as one of the top nine ponies - and sea serpents, as it would seem - in Equestria to vie for the most prestigious position as the apprentice one of the most talented ponies in the whole wide world! The one, the only, the mare, the myth, the legend.... PHOTO FINISH!

The reptilian still got giddy just saying it. He knew that somepony had to be watching him, and to report to PHOTO FINISH that little mister Steven Magnet was going to be in the top nine! The top nine in all of Equestria! That number is so low, he could count it on his claws. However, the serpent wasn’t entirely confident that he had a scale for every pony who had tried out for what he had done!

Unfortunately, Steven has not been around in pony society long enough to know what they wanted in their outfits. So, he had been trying his hardest to learn how to perform the pony arts - knitting, sewing, weaving - so that he could assemble his ensemble in a timely, neat fashion. Lacking materials, he had resigned to making seaweed vests and grass purl stitches for his training. He promised himself that for every time the flimsy plants had snapped, or ripped, or torn, there would be a fresh new roll of pre-made material ready for him.

That was another issue that the serpent had to contend with, causing him many sleepless nights; how would he design his clothing? Seaweed was just a flat, drab green. It wasn’t fabulous in any way, shape or form. Why? It lacked colour! You need colour and style, to be proper and stand out, in order to even consider calling yourself fabulous! And green is so last season. It’s just not a creative colour anymore to Steven, he’d seen so many of his garments awash in it! So that is why Steven was currently zipping through the Manebrush River, which cuts through the Everfree Forest, searching for something, anything, to add a dash of colour to his handiwork.

Anything.
