Lilac Briolette (Ready)

Recommended Posts

Roleplay Type: World of Equestria

Name: Lilac Briolette

Sex: Female

Age: Mare

Species: Crystal Pony

Eye colour: Dusty rose which fades into champagne pink around the pupils.

Coat: Pale lilac with a radiant glimmer, and of course it has the same crystalline quality shared by all crystal ponies. Unlike all other crystal ponies, however, Lilac considers her coat to be the most resplendent in all the Crystal Empire – but she considers most of her personal qualities to be the most resplendent in all the Crystal Empire, which might affect the validity of any claim she makes on the subject.

Mane/Tail: Pale pink threaded with gold. She normally keeps both very tightly braided and out of her eyes, as her profession demands it. Though she takes great care of her hair to maintain her appearance, Lilac views the daily fuss it causes as quite the nuisance and would prefer to snip it all off. Such a spontaneous act (and fashion!) would be very ill-fitted to a dancer of her status, however, so she continues her routine of keeping her hair exquisitely groomed and styled.

Physique: Though she is rather on the short and slender side, Lilac is quite muscular as well! She has been involved with dance all her life, and as such she has the impressive strength that comes from intensive daily physical training.

When she is not rehearsing, Lilac is often found wearing dresses of layered sheer fabrics that reflect the distinctive translucence of crystal ponies. And every day, without fail, she wears a collar-style necklace of swirling, pink gold vines set with small pink pearls and blossoms of marquise cut kunzite gems. It was a gift from her parents, one she cherishes.

Residence: A large, artistic house in the Moonstone Ward of the Crystal Empire, impressively close to the Palace. Lilac’s home is made of opaque, lilac-hued crystal in the shape of a flower. Each of the six rooms of her house takes the shape of a single petal in the flower. Her bedroom leads to a walled-in backyard area the spreads from the “blossom” of the house in the shape of a leaf.

Lilac’s home is a point of pride for her, being her largest investment and a symbol of her status as well as her dedication to the arts!

Occupation: A prima ballerina turned lyrical! Lilac Briolette was enrolled in ballet from a very early age and continued with it passionately for many years. Since the return of the Crystal Empire, however, she decided to turn towards a more intuitive and expressive style of dance while still utilizing her classical training.

Cutie Mark: Two pink ballet slippers with the ribbons tied into a double bow above them.

Lilac received her cutie mark much earlier than most colts and fillies her age. Her parents were both involved heavily in the arts – her father (Spinel Marquise) was a set designer for theatre and her mother (Peridot Trillion) was an actress – and enrolled her in many arts-based classes as soon as she was old enough for them. She quickly lost interest in acting, singing, painting, sculpting, and writing and threw herself into dance without so much as a blink. She lived and breathed ballet, to the point where her parents would have to scold her for rehearsing during meals!

Despite her love and commitment to dance, however, Lilac was one of the clumsiest fillies in her classes. She was such a poor dancer, in fact, that her peers and instructors skipped over ridicule and tough love and jumped straight into pitying her. This was something a prideful pony such as Lilac found terribly embarrassing, and she was determined to prove that she could attain the same grace that came so naturally to others.

The clumsy dancer was eventually given the smallest roll in her class’s first recital, and even though she would not be in any spotlight Lilac couldn’t be happier – or more nervous! As the date of her first live performance drew closer, her parents and instructors grew more concerned as she wasn’t improving in the slightest. During one of their final rehearsals, Lilac tripped over her own hooves and fell flat on her face – something that happened often, though in this particular moment her fall was full of a bizarre clarity. She was facing one of the large mirrors in the dance studio and had a clear view of herself dressed up in silks, looking much more elegant than her usual mussed-up wild foal style. Entranced, she stared at her reflection while she slowly got back on her hooves and was struck with a sudden realization: she loved what she was doing! Though she suffered countless falls and her ego took more hits than she could count, she could still smile. In fact, it was hard not to smile! Lilac truly loved dance, no matter how many hard knocks she took from it. She never wanted to quit, and she knew she’d prove that she could dance some day!

In that moment, her crystal radiance shone brighter than ever and her cutiemark appeared!

History: After many years of sweat, struggle, and the most intensive training she could push her body through, Lilac Briolette proved her talent and grace as a ballerina. Just a few short years after she had gained her cutiemark she had metamorphosed from a clumsy filly into a brilliant prima ballerina. She became the lead in every recital she auditioned for in her dance school, sacrificing most of her free time to practice in the dance studio her parents had added onto their home for her. Lilac had always had a very reclusive personality, so she didn’t feel as though she was missing out on anything important by giving up her weekends to dancing alone in the studio or attending her lessons. She was decently close with the fillies and colts who attended ballet lessons with her, and she had her very supportive parents as best friends. With those precious bonds and a life that revolved around her greatest passion, she felt positively spoiled!

With every appearance she made in her recitals, her reputation spread. Choreographers and directors from professional ballet companies around the Art District were noticing her, and once she had graduated school she had many options to choose from in terms of where she would go to continue her career! Of course, by this point she had quite the swollen ego as well, thinking herself to be quite the little starlet.

When she made her debut with her chosen company, Lilac was no longer the prima ballerina. It was a huge reality check to an egocentric mare and reintroduced a sense of humility to the dancer. However, as she did in ballet school, Lilac worked her way to the top yet again and finally earned the prima ballerina rank within her company,

Just months before the Crystal Empire fell to King Sombra, Lilac Briolette had been named prima ballerina within her company – a high honour considering the wealth of talent she had to compete with. This recognition was evidence of what one could achieve when they worked hard enough. It wasn’t purely natural talent, after all, that had carried Lilac so far, but her labour and intense love for ballet. With the bits she had earned from her performances and the influence of her newly acquired title, Lilac purchased her plot in the Moonstone District and had her house built. Though she had regained a fair bit of her ego problem, Lilac’s gratitude towards those who had supported or instructed her, towards her parents and essentially everypony who had shown patience towards the young and clumsy ballerina was totally genuine. Her move-in day was extremely emotional for her, and she turned her housewarming party into a celebration for all of the most important ponies in her life.

Shortly after this celebration, the Empire fell. Like her fellow crystal ponies, Lilac was swept into the bleak fog that put the Crystal Empire and its citizens into a melancholy stasis. With her first Crystal Fair since King Sombra’s darkness had swallowed her home, Lilac’s happiness was put into perspective. The joy she felt had brought with it a clarity she hadn’t felt since she had earned her cutiemark: she loved ballet, and though she would never leave it, she wanted to push her dancing further, to explore and experiment with it. Though Sombra’s rule was a curse heavy with despair, it carried with it a blessing – a seed of positivity she vowed to nurse into a lovely flower.

Lilac has spent her time since the Crystal Empire’s return practicing a more narrative, lyrical style of dance. She incorporated her classical ballet training to define her style, and has convinced her company to invest in an experimental ballet show. Crystal ponies all have a heightened sense of empathy and though they can feel the happiness they share, there are also fragments of shadows to be found since their time spent in darkness. Through a more emotive style of dance, Lilac wishes with all her heart to send her audience a message. She wishes to tell them their own story filled with their struggles through dance, so they know they will never be alone with their feelings towards the past. Her ballet will be one of healing and looking to the future, something she hopes will touch the hearts of others!

Character Summary: First impressions of Lilac are typically very poor. She comes across as a total ice queen, always fussing over her looks and carrying herself in a way that tells people “I don’t want to speak to you lowly peons.” The air she gives off is an unintentional one, however, and she is very aware of it – she just doesn’t know how to shake it! As such, the crystal mare has taught herself to take initiative in conversations. She will be the first to approach others and spark conversation, always doing her best to be friendly and win over familiar faces and strangers alike. Though she’s not terribly charismatic, she has her own brand of charm and puts forth her best efforts to let others see it.

That said, Lilac is, without a doubt, an egoist. She is a prima ballerina and she wears it well. She is prim, proper, elegant, and full of incomparable poise. She considers herself to be a lustrous and sparkling jewel, a very precious individual to the Arts District of the Crystal Empire – it’s all rather tiresome. In spite of this, however, she is not condescending. She is very aware of her own humble beginnings and how hard she had to work to make her dreams a reality. In her eyes, anypony willing to work towards a goal is worthy of respect, and she will give them just that. She’s full of herself in an “I’m fabulous: I earned it and I own it” way, not a holier-than-thou way!

The ballerina is still a big dreamer, too. She has high aspirations of some day earning the rare honour of being named Prima Ballerina Assoluta - an extremely difficult title to achieve, one that is bestowed upon only the most talented of dancers!

Though it may come as a surprise, there is room left in the crystal mare’s heart for others aside from herself. In fact, she has quite a big heart! A natural gift for empathy makes it difficult for one not to care for others, and for Lilac sensing the feelings of others is something precious. She loves to make others happy, or to help them realize they are not alone, that at least one other pony in the world cares for them. And dance is how she aims to spread this message!
