Note: she actually has perfectly normal looking eyes, I just can't draw. :P

Residence: Windygust lives in Cloudsdale and has for her entire adult life, though she was born and raised in Trottingham. Her young adult daughter lives with her in a small two-bedroom apartment in one of the more working-class neighborhoods of the clouded city.

Occupation: In her younger years, she worked in the weather factory in Cloudsdale producing wind. A few years ago, she was promoted from this position to supervisor and quality assurance of the wind department.

Cutie Mark:

As a foal, Windygust loved making and flying kites with her father. Being the middle child of three fillies born to her parents, this became the one special thing that she had in common with her father, that made her different to her sisters. Together they would design and decorate kites as her father explained to her all the intricacies of what he considered to be a combination of physics and art. Windygust had been very young when the two first started the tradition, and was unable to fly on her own. Instead, she would stand on the ground below and gaze up at the kites in the sky, imagining that she was that kite up there; she was the one dancing in the wind, the breeze playfully tugging on her tail and getting it tangled up with her father's.

Her cutie mark was earned when she was quite a bit older, at flight school in Cloudsdale. She was still having trouble flying, and no matter how much she flapped and flapped and flapped her wings and tried her best to fly like the other fillies and colts, she just couldn't get her hooves off the clouds below. Finally, her father came to visit her while she was at school, and he immediately saw how to help her.

"You're using your wings too much," he told her. "A kite can fly without wings - they just use the wind. Use the wind, Gusty, and you'll be flying just like a kite. Trust me; if you fall I'll catch you."

Certain that this endeavour would fail just as badly as the last, but taking comfort in the strong and safe presence of her father, Windygust tried one last time. This time, she didn't flap her wings quite so much and instead let the wind carry her through the air. Much to her delight, she managed to fly all the way from one cloud to another without any help at all! When she reached her father, he smiled to tell her she did well, then pointed proudly to her flank.

"There you go little one; now you know how to use the wind, just like a kite!"

But the wind in Equestria wasn't a completely natural occurrence. When she got older and learned more about how the weather worked, Windygust learned that for most of Equestria the wind was produced in the city of Cloudsdale, and from there it was sent out to all of the villages, towns and cities in that needed it. Her interest soon shifted from how she could use the wind to being more about how she, as a Pegasus, could help to create the wind in all its forms; from the warm summer breezes to the blustery winter gales.

History:

Both of Windygust's parents were pegasi. Her father, Strong Gale, was one of the few weather ponies who worked for the city of Trottingham, while her mother, Periwinkle, was a painter; a house painter to pay the bills, but a more artistic painter in her spare time. Sometimes Indigo managed to combine the two by painting murals in nurseries and children's rooms. On Windygust's bedroom walls, she had painted a scene of a beautiful city, consisting of buildings made out of clouds and accentuated with tall, sturdy pillars. The young filly soon learned that this city was Cloudsdale, the place of her father's birth.

When she visited the city for the first time, it looked just like her bedroom wall and though she had never been there before, she immediately felt right at home. She attended flight school there, and since she wasn't terribly smart as far as academia was concerned, she went straight from school to a job in the weather factory.

When Windygust was still a young mare she became the proud mother of two foals: the first one was a dusty blue colt named Stormwing, followed a few years later by a cornflower-coloured filly named Whirligig. These two foals soon became Windygust's reason for living. She was glad to be working in her favoured department of the weather factory and she enjoyed her work immensely, but it wasn't what her life was all about anymore. She threw her whole self into her children and tried to spend as much time with them as she possibly could, doing her best to both care for and provide for them. She helped them with their homework and school projects, became interested in the things that they were interested in, and saved up bits so that her son could attend junior weather pony camps. Though they never lived in poverty or anything, making ends meet was always a slight struggle and required careful budgeting - there were enough bits to pay the rent and the bills so long as Windygust wasn’t frivolous.

Both of her children are adults now; when Stormwing grew up, he moved to Trottingham, following in his grandfather’s hoofsteps and becoming a weather pony for the town. Whirligig remains in Cloudsdale, still living with Windygust and working in the weather factory just like her mother. The two continue to share a very tight mother-daughter relationship. Windygust still works in the wind tunnels, but now she is in a supervisory position; she manages both training and quality control.

Character Summary:

Windygust is a loving, optimistic and self-sacrificing pony who would do anything for her two children and their happiness. For most of her life she worked hard at a job that many would consider menial simply because she was truly passionate about it; and eventually this passion and determination paid off when she was promoted to trainer and quality assurance. She doesn’t consider her life to have been a struggle though others in similar situations may have. She simply takes everything in stride; sometimes you need to let go of a situation, stop flapping your wings so hard, and just let the wind carry you.

She has a calm and quiet demeanour; she’s slow to anger and doesn’t get worked up over anything. She does keep to herself a lot of the time, but not to the point that she’s antisocial. She gets emotional during sad plays and films - especially when animals are involved. Raising the foals on her own meant that she’d never really had time to go out and spend a lot of time with other ponies when she was younger, and now such practices seem foreign to her - she never did get back into the dating scene, though maybe now that the foals are grown she may reconsider.

Windygust is an optimist; she’s determined to see the good in everything and everyone - a quality that can either be a blessing or a curse. She isn't always the best judge of character and being too trusting of others sometimes gets her hurt. Any shady or devious pony would find her very easy to manipulate and take advantage of - she doesn't, after all, like the word 'no' and has a hard time using it. She's not very good at standing up for herself and sometimes proves to be a bit of a doormat.

Now that her children are grown, she has more time to herself, though she's never quite sure what to do with it. She's always been an average cook, a less-than-avid reader, and a dreadful seamstress (she had the costumes from her childrens' many school plays to show for that). Sometimes, however, she does pick up a paintbrush and dabble in art as she so often watched her mother do when she was a filly. And now, more often than she ever has since her children were born, she'll take a sunny and warm afternoon off, find a corner of the sky to herself, and go fly a kite.

:) Apparently single mothers are a-ok as long as it's done right. Is this done right?
