The Royal Equestrian Army Ball

As you enter the palace, you note the large red carpets, all leading deeper into the interior. You follow the carpet in past stained glass portraits and stately tapestries and suits of ancient armor polished to a mirror sheen. From deep within the castle, wafts the music of a bygone era. Blue notes and jazz chords, walking bass and punchy brass, the warm sounds fall upon your ears, finally engulfing you fully as you step into the grand ballroom.

At the far end of the ballroom stand a bar and buffet. Drinks and hors d'oeuvres are snapped up by talking ponies collected in miniature herds at barstools or around faerie-lamp-lit tables. In the middle of the room is a cleared space of matted flooring, a dance floor for when the party kicks into full swing. But perhaps most enthralling of all is the big band sitting at the front of the ballroom.

Saxophones, trumpets, trombones, a full rhythm section, and even a fiddle. Suddenly the music stops, the drummer kicks into a roll, and the brass plays a blaring fanfare. You catch a glimpse of iridescent silver at stage left as the graceful form of the Princess of the Night, clad in full evening regalia steps onto the stage.

“Fillies and gentlecolts, I give you the Mistress of the Moon, Executor of the Empyrean, the Defender of Dreams, Princess Luna!” With a flourish and a low bow, the master of ceremonies cuts the band off and backs off stage, leaving the limelight focused on Luna. The princess begins her address.

“Equestria is a land of peace, a land guided by harmony and tempered by respect for all living things. But even in a land such as ours, dangers lurk just beyond our safe havens and tranquil dwellings. To safeguard our livelihoods, we require stalwart guardians, faithful sentinels, vigilant watchponies; those who are willing to put themselves in harm’s way to ensure that we remain safe.

“The noble ponies of the Royal Equestrian Army have answered that call. They stand ready to protect, serve, and represent Equestria wherever they go. The volunteers of the REA work tirelessly and give selflessly to ensure our continued prosperity. Tonight is but a small token of appreciation for all who have given their time and efforts to safeguard Equestria. To all who have served and all who continue to serve and all who stand behind them, we thank you!”

She pauses a moment to allow the applause to die down. With a wave of her hoof, the Princess officially kicks off the festivities!

“Thus it is with great pleasure that I welcome you all to the first annual Royal Equestrian Army Ball!”

Welcome to the first annual Royal Equestrian Army Ball! Set in the main ballroom of Canterlot Castle, the Ball is a celebration of all who serve in the Royal Equestrian Army and a time for them to relax and enjoy the company of their comrades, friends, and family. All current and former guardsponies are welcome. Every guest is allowed to bring family or a friend (but please keep the number you’re bringing reasonable for your thread!). The general public is free to venture into the castle to support our Equestrian heroes, but the ballroom is reserved strictly for our special guests and those near and dear to them.

This post serves as the prompt and announcement thread for this event. Please do not RP in this thread! You can join in on the fun at one of the seed threads or you can start your own. Just be sure to add the prefix [REA Ball] or [Army Ball] to let people know your thread is a part of this RP! Also tag whether your thread is in the general public area [PUBLIC] or army only [ARMY ONLY]. You can also mark your thread [PRIVATE] to denote that players will need the permission of the original poster to participate.
