History:

Hugo Larron was born to a modest family, not lavish or important in any way. His father was a factory worker with an affinity for stage magic (and performed it as an amateur) and his mother was a seamstress. His life was a basic childhood, though didn't see his parents much as they were constantly working. Whenever he did see his parents they were very loving, and his father loved showing off his tricks to his son. Slight of hand interested Hugo greatly and he soon started to pick up a few tricks and even showing them off to his friends, of which he had many. If there was anything Hugo was never without was a good number of friends.

Eventually he began to try and trick his friends in other ways, by way of doing impressions. He impersonated everyone, from his teachers, to his parents to his friends. At first they were simply parodies, trying to get a laugh eventually he tried honing his skills. Soon he went from almost a mocking kind of impression to near perfect impressions. He still did it for a laugh but they were far more convincing, even getting to the point that if pony or griffon was in the other room they would have rushed in expecting to see the one he was impersonating. He loved entertaining his friends and families. He would even act in school plays and for the talent show he would often do magic shows, which were often a big hit. And there was never a time where a pretty mare or griffoness would not wish to be his 'lovely assistant' as he would call it. He would usually end with an escape of some sort.

He continued to practice his magic and impersonations, slowly learning what and how to say things. No matter what needed saying he knew just how to say it to seem proper, almost as if he had grown up in high society. All the world was a stage and eventually he began living life as if it was one large play, the play of his life. Eventually he had to choose to go to college, his parents would have it no other way! So naturally he chose to go for the arts, his one true love. It was mostly performance, of course, but he also took an interest in the fine arts learning the beauty and learning how to create art (to a certain degree). While there he slowly became bored. Learning the technicalities of performing and performing on command took the thrill and fun out of it all. He quickly started thinking of a way to overcome this, and he soon found a club, the "Young Adventurers Club." They would often make excursions to the surrounding mountains. The bravest would often go to the the more dangerous locales, such as the Everfree through the mountains or the Gates of Tartarus.

The greatest thrill came when he forgot to pack enough food for the trek to the Dragon Mountains. It wasn't the Dragon Mountains though that was the trill, it was having to take food from his fellow adventures. All of them had brought ample food, more than they needed. To save face he never did tell them he hadn't brought any of their own, and none noticed that he was taking from them, and he even convinced some of them to trade food for some of the food he took from others. That was the greatest rush, having no one find out that he was stealing and being able to use other's food to get more food.

He eventually graduated and everyone went their separate ways. Hugo decided to live his life to the fullest and attempt to cheat his way through Las Pegasus. He went in under the moniker Francis Ravenclaw, he figured what better way to avoid suspicion than to assume the name of one of the ruling families of Aquellia. Changing his accent to something that you would find more in Talonopolis wish an air of superiority in his voice, even donning a monicle and a false moustache, his look was perfect. No one seemed to suspect he was from a working class family from Beakbreak City, with no notoriety what so ever. He used his slight of hand and smooth talking ways of distracting the dealer to always have the advantage. However, stealing from the casino didn't have the same effect as stealing from his friends and he was left with a conundrum. How could he get that same feeling that he felt on his trip to the Dragon Mountains?

His father and mother heard of his adventures and decided to take a trip of their own to the lands of Unyasi. There his parents came across a rather ancient gourd. Thinking it would be a good souvenir they took it with them. Unbeknownst to them it was the target of an expedition of one Dr. Merlot for a client with interests in tribal artifacts. And so he offered a rather large sum for the piece to his father, not knowing it's worth. Hugo's father told him about what had happened and Hugo found it curious that anyone would pay that price for an old gourd, and with a bit of research, found that it was a priceless artifact known as the Gourd of Eternity, something which was able to supposedly brew more powerful potions. Needless to say Hugo was none too happy that this "Dr. Merlot" got one over on dear old dad, so he decided to pay him a visit as a potential buyer that would pay more than a fair price. He introduced himself as Johann Silverbeak, of the affluent Silverbeak family of Aquellia. Donning a common Talonopolis aristocratic accent as well as a moustache and different feather style and making his coat perfectly white with dye, he made his ploy and learned of where the gourd was. Later that evening he left a letter.

"Monsieur Merlot,

It has come to my attention that you have recently come into the possession of a particular gourd. It is unfortunate for you that the gourd must change ownership rather abruptly.

Your's Truly,

Marquis Larron"

He wasn't sure why he called himself a marquis, but the idea just came to him and the next day he put on a monocle and a suit and became Marquis Larron, a thief nonpareil. He, in the dead of night the next night, past the guards he took the gourd. He was seen in passing glance, but never in danger of being caught. He, in the place of the gourd, left a card under a single bit that read "Mar. Larron, thanks you for your generosity. Please accept the bit as recompense for the donation of the gourd."

The gourd "mysteriously" found it's way back to his father with a note telling of what he had found. Surprisingly his father elected to not sell it, but rather donate it to the local museum to put on display, earning him not money but recognition. This was a most entertaining excursion for him. From the increased guard, to the brazenness of showing himself to his target, it provided a rush like no other. He began doing that style of thievery more often, keeping some for himself so he could travel around (not that he was poor) and donating to the needy or those whom he felt were worthy owners. He always followed the same pattern, becoming known to the target of interest, occasionally recruiting an accomplice or two, and then announcing the imminent theft and leaving behind a note with a single bit. He did that with everything he did, and either sold his spoils or placed them in the right hands. To finance his life be became an investor of sorts, using the money he gained in Las Pegasus to set up a rather sizeable, and growing fund that he would be able to use (if he wasn't conning his way into a place to stay).

Character Summary:

Hugo is at his core a gentleman and always knows what to say and how to say it. He is rather well likable, and the only reason to dislike him is if you would be a target (not that he would ever let you know that of course). He always acts as if he were a noblegriffon. He will kiss the hoof or claw of any mare or griffoness he sees as way of greeting and always offer his services or time. He enjoys fine clothes, fine wine and good convorsation. If you know him as Hugo he is a good friend of rare stature and quality of character, and even if you know him as Mssr. Larron, he will likely treat you likewise though with less familiarity. He even treats those in the service industry with great respect and courtesy (especially since, had he not taken the career path he had, he would have likely been right there).

You might often catch Hugo at high profile parties and events, often talking his way in as he is rarely if ever on the guest list (unless he has assumed the identity of one who is and several can corroborate his identity). He knows how to act in high society, and is a rather proficient dancer and performer of several instruments if the need ever arises for it. He loves the piano and violin most of all, considering them the most gentlemanly of instruments and the most pleasing to the ear. Offering to be an escort for a night at the theater though you'll find he can also be a harsh critic, even as respectful and dignified as he'll make his criticisms sound. Young actors and actresses won't leave without feeling they have learned something though and he never seeks to destroy motivation, only kindle it further. After all, he was an acting student himself, and to him the whole world's a stage, and he gets to play any part he desires and write the story as he goes along.

And though he only joined the young adventurer club for the rush, he still enjoys a good adventure and it keeps him in shape (and allows him to get into cover stories rather easily). He also just enjoys it. Of course the adventure will yield an occasional artifact, but he is less interested in finding them that way than from the house of some worth while target. And the more worthy the target the more likely he is to try and steal from them. A good challenge is always worth while, and the most fun he has.

As Marquis Larron, you never know who you'll get, as it will always be a part that is being played for the target. Whether it is a long lost relative, investor, buyer or even a new friend who is sharing a drink, he changes it constantly. Though it is important to keep in mind that when speaking with him, you are rarely ever speaking to his thief persona, but rather the part he is playing. If you manage to catch him, that is the only time you'll speak to the thief, which is to say Hugo himself with a bit more brazenness (though not in the same accent of course and retaining his gentlemanly demeanor).
