RailGear [Ready]

Recommended Posts

Roleplay Type: World of Equestria

Name: RailGear

Sex: Male

Age: Early Adulthood

Species: Earth Pony

Eye Color: Hazel

Coat: The large majority of the stallions coat is a dark brown, near the point of turning black but not quite there. Just past his knees however, the color of the coat turns to a very pale shade of brown. The fur past the knee is also much longer than the rest of his coat.

Mane: The mane is long and messy, a common trait usually found in the Gear family. It has the same pale brown color as the coat past his kness.

Physique: RailGear's body is quite large in stature. He easily towers over most ponies. He has a well toned muscular body, but the volume is easily hidden by his long coat of fur.

Occupation: He currently works as an Engine pony for pulling passenger and load trains across Equestria. And occasionally to make large on ground deliveries to various factories, or store fronts.

Cutie-Mark: Two light gray, nearly white, gears connected to each other. The one to the front is the largest, while the one towards the back is the smallest. This represents the sheer raw pulling and pushing power that RailGear has.

Residence: His occupation tends to have him bounce around to much to actually be able to settle down in one location. He will often stay with his cousin, JavaSun, in Canterlot, or with his family back in Dodge Junction if he ever has a break off.

History:

The life of Dodge Junction has been well known to produce some sturdy bodies and RailGear was no different. It was a family inside joke when everyone said that he was born with a train engine for a body, and a heart as brittle as coal. That was to say that he had a tough exterior, incredibly strong, but he was really a Mama's colt.

He didn't spend a lot of time away from his mother. Generally willingly giving an extra hoof with the housework around the house. Even when he was out with his friends, if he felt that his mother or father needed help, he'd run off in the middle of a game to go give an extra hoof.

He was even known for being a gentle giant. Often times, he could be found lying on the ground watching small newts and lizards scurry across the ground. Or even stopping in mid sprint to avoid trampling a small animal, or any other pony for that matter. He would even become terribly upset if he accidentally broke something or hurt another pony. This earned him the nickname, “Lil Colossus.”

By the time the age for finding a cutie-mark came, he joined many of the other young foals and colts on their adventures. But he would often times back out if he spotted something utterly dangerous. Usually with the statement, “Uh.... ah don't know... MaMa always told me not ta...” And that would be it. Of course, even when others pressured him to do it, he'd only just drop his rump to the ground hold still. Not even the entire class could move him if they tried, figuratively speaking. They instead gave up and tried it anyways with the stubborn stallion watching them. They would usually prove RailGear right, and sometimes wrong.

He always had a fascination for the railroad. Often times when he was at home, he'd play with a train-set with his cousin when ever he visited from Manehatten or Canterlot. Then came a day when the train had pulled in while RailGear watched from his home. The train had arrived much later than scheduled, and remained in active well past it's schedule. After investigating, he had learned that one of the rail ponies that were pulling it had injured his hoof, thus causing a major delay.

RailGear had offered his help, but being a young colt, he had been rejected at first. That was till the rest of the town had all gave in their two bits, and convinced the rail ponies to give him a shot. Minutes later, he was fastened to a harness at the back of the line, and directly in front of the train as a “Low Gear” to get the train moving.

The pony had looked up to his mother and father nervously. Whom both of them gave an encouraging nod. With a light gulp, he began to move his feet. At fist his feet only slid around from the colossal weight difference. He stopped for just a moment, and slowly began once more. This time deciding to take it slow, moving each hoof between the boards and pulling himself forward. To RailGear's surprise, the train began to slowly creak into a crawl with him. He took a few more steps, increasing his pace. And the train's speed increased with him till he was at a jog. By that point, the other rail ponies began to move as well, and only began to pull when the train was ready to reach a sprint.

With the uproar of the town behind him, and the train half way to it's next destination, Railgear saw a flash of light appear from the corner of his eyes. He glanced back to find his new cutie-mark to be branded proudly onto his flank.

Character Summary:

RailGear is a high-end hauling MaMa's stallion. While he can easily come off as very masculine on first sight, it is pretty easy to hurt his feelings and send him running away crying. He is a gentle giant without a single bone of violence inside him. And when ever he is being stubborn about a task he simply will not do, there is nothing short of a bulldozer that could actually force him to get up and do it. But if there is something that he was asked to do, that he deemed to be what his mother would allow, he'd do it happily without any complaints. He absolutely enjoys working, and being helpful. But he will always remember what his mother told him to do, and what not to do, and such will influence his actions.

He has quite a high threshold for pain. If he wasn't looking, and somepony were to break a chair over his back, at most it would cause RailGear to flinch and look behind himself. He'd wonder if someone had poked him.

He very much enjoys food, and will often eat a lot of it in one sitting. He even enjoys cooking, and will normally make large meals that could feed an entire family, even if it was just him. He enjoys chores and hard-work, often seeing appreciation in the little things of life.

But with every soft hearted pony, he has his fears and peeves. He generally dislikes seeing other ponies get hurt. Usually sending him into a panic, a cringe, or if the other pony was crying; he'd cry with them. Once again, he is not a pony well known for leaping into the action or into a fray. He'd rather stay in the sidelines and watch or run away if there was no-one of real concern in the mix.

Rail-Gear is deathly afraid of deep water, only because he can not swim. And his fear extends off into a large variety of things.
