Leonard Wingstrong [READY]

Recommended Posts

RP: World of Equestria

Name: Leonard “Mr. Saxbird” Wingstrong; Alias "Erudite"

Species: Griffon

Sex: Male

Age: Young Adult

Eye Color: Emerald

Coat: The coat is that of a Kalahari leopard. It’s a very sandy khaki that lightens into a desaturated yellow as it nears the stomach. The spots contain dark brown fillings with the outline being a solid black.

Mane/Tail: His head resembles a brown field buzzard, a small portion of feathers on the dead center of his head, and slightly above the beak are white. And around that is a lighter shade of brown that quickly grows darker when it reaches back. Around his eyes are dark gray mascara like markings.

Physique: Slightly smaller than the average griffon. But the wings are quite large. Overall, his body has a very lithe build to it. While not the most physically strong griffon out there, he is more than capable of fast flight with some tricky maneuvers.

Accessories: Leonard is hardly ever seen without his usual attire. On his head he wears a short rimed cream colored fedora. The rim dips downward at the front, and curls upward as it reaches the back. On the front of fedora is a orange and brown argyle pattern. He also wears a long sleeved jacket of the same color that had been designed to button up around the Griffons wings to allow them to move without conflict. The jacket as well has the same pattern lining the sleeves near his talons.

Residence: While he generally chooses to sleep wherever he pleases, his official residence is located in Manehatten’s business district. Which is the top most floor of the studio he owns.

Occupation: Musician (Saxaphone/Vocals) and Club owner.

Cutie Mark: Not Applicable

History:

Born and raised in Beakbreak City to a family of rather large Griffons, it happened to be that Leonard came into the world as the runt of the litter. With he generally fierce nature of most griffons and the culture of proving one’s self, Leo had developed a nasty habit of picking fights with his larger kin. While the hot head would normally lose at just about every contest, show off, or fight, it’d never deter him from his determination.

As he grew older in his younger years, he eventually grew tired of seeing the same old city streets, and the daily life to set off to start his own life. He traveled to many different locations, and kept his hot headed attitude when someone made a slip about his size. That was till he began nearing adulthood where he traveled to Equestria and arrived at the city of Manehatten.

He wandered the streets for a few years, finding the life rather dull and nearing similarities .of his hometown. That was till he happened across a Jazz club where he found the songs being played to be quite alluring. First it started with the occasional poking in, where he only glanced through a window or the doorway for a hot minute and then left. But with the frequent returns, eventually he stepped inside and stood to the doorway. And lastly, after a couple of days he was seated near the stage listening.

The band noticed him, after the many returns on days that the club was not busy and offered him a chance to play. They gave him a sax, and he blew. But it wasn't the same music that he had heard. Instead, it was a tragic squeaky sound. Naturally, his rage overcame him and the horn was thrown aside after he heard the laughter from the band. Just as he tried to storm out, the group stopped him and beckoned him to come back and try again.

“Only a handful of pony can have the natural talent by birth,” one of them nickered in a smooth tone. The pony produced a new sax from seemingly thin air, and offered it back. “The rest just gots to learn with patience and bleedin.”

The tone of the pony made Leonard curious, and so he continued to return just to learn to play. He went from a rookie, to a full blown professional in a few years. And in that time, the griffons head began to cool down. In fact, many things changed about him in just a handful of years. He became more laidback and patient, his speech pattern changed, and he just about lost his competitive nature.

And in that time he picked up a handful of friends, one of whom helped him with funding to open up "The Labyrinth", a jazz club, after the last one shut down. However, he took a completely different approach. Instead of a fixed layout, the club was completely modular. Allowing for quick overnight shifts from it’s original layout, to something that could be an art studio, or a theater for presentation. Rather than allowing the public to know who the owner was, he kept it a secret, and usually denied ownership. No pony ever saw the owner in person. Maybe just a shadow from the second floor window. Even arrangements were made so that the billing name was “Erudite” with no specific race or gender. Only a few ponies actually knew that Leonard owned the establishment. And in time, the gimmick allowed the club to grow into a rather well known and popular club that was completely open for the public; unless rented for special events.

Character Summary:

Leonard is an incredibly laid back, smooth talking and highly charismatic Griffon. While he had matured from his aggressive behavior, he is still prone to suddenly reverting back to it. Such cases are usually from pony’s or griffons not showing him or his friends any form of respect. The fierce loyalty to his friends remain, and he does a good job of keeping in touch with them. And quickly hops to their aid if he can. After starting off with practically nothing, it did give him a touch of humbleness, and even generosity.

He’d much rather be referred to as Leo, as the name Leonard could be quite a mouthful to say. He’d even take his stage name, “Mr. Saxbird” over the full length of his name. While it may be a bit more to say, he does enjoy the humor behind the name. And while he usually spends a lot of time at his club, he simply tells every pony or griffon who questions it that he works there for the extra bits. The occasional shadow, rumors, and the feeling of being watched is enough to reinforce the small lie.
