History:

One upon a time, because time is a factor since it was such a long time ago, maybe even longer than before the Princesses were the age they were; there lived chaos. Nobody is sure how Discord came into being. Some believe it was from the depths of Tartarus, more poetic minds think he was born from the amalgamation of all the chaos borne between the three tribes of ponies or even at the same time the Tree of Harmony came into existence and others don't really care beause he was a dangerous nuisance. However way he came into being, he did and all he knew was that he was the only one like himself in existence from a young age.

If he had anything like parents, he is beyond the capacity to remember them and if there were other draconequus, it's obvious he had no influence from them enough to understand the basic fundemental knowledge of companionship or friendship. What he did know is when he found the tawdry little land known as Equestria, he found it to be dull as dishwater.

So he fixed that little problem.

And reigned for goodness knows how long, but it was long enough for two meddling little Princess ponies to come into the ownership of some very old relics of power known as the 'Elements of Harmony' - ofcourse such an idea of a power outweighing chaos of all things was a laughable joke to Discord...he did unfortunately eat his own words when the power of the Elements turned out to be more of a match for him. Reducing him to little more than a garden ornament for the two victorious alicorns.

It wasn't a complete loss though.

Years upon years he listened, he heard of kingdoms falling to darkness and disappearing from the face of Equestria itself, he heard two sisters quarrel and have their so called 'elements' be turned against each other. It was all very amusing despite the fact he himself wasn't physically able to have a good laugh about it.

Time and forced to be patient does eventually pay off, during a school visit, a tiny spark ignited, the tiniest glimpse of innocent and beautiful chaos in the form of squabbling friends....and with the princesses recently disconnected from the elements of Harmony not nearby enough to keep such a wiley statue in check. It was a wonderful window of opportunity for the spirit of disharmony.

And boy was it ever FUN! In the time he spent unfrozen, he had not only turned the element's guardians the complete opposite of their element ensuring his fun would go unheeded - albeit with the slight challenge of Fluttershy - but he had managed to turn Ponyville into his own little playground....for a brief time anyway. Ponies ofcourse have to spoil everything and eventually thanks to Celestia's pet student, Twilight Sparkle, the elements were back at their full strength yet again and he was demoted to 'garden statue' yet again.

Assured of another lengthy stay, the creature of chaos was stuck listening through a riveting wedding and several more chaotic little happenstances that he was sadly missing out on....yet even he was surprised when he was given a brief parole, albeit for another laughable situation the Princess Celestia thought she could assure; Reformation. He was to be reformed? And by the pony gang's little pushover of all ponies? Discord could hardly contain his plotting, playing this overly sentimental little yellow and pink pony for a fool was going to be a cakewalk. Using his powers and having her apologise for him time and time again was more than amusing to him...till something became rather apparent to him. She did genuinely believe him. He could barely remember a time, or infact anyone, who had genuinely believed he could behave or even trusted him this much to believe him, granted trust was a powerful tool when it came to manipulation, but never this sort of trust.

Eventually he got caught out inbetween his mischief when Sweet Apple Acres was flooded and eventually frozen, finally back on track with his plan he used Fluttershy's trust to promise not to use her element against him. To his joy, it worked...it was short lived however when he saw that trust she'd had in him before, fade from her eyes when she declared she was no longer his friend. Initially scoffing, the lingering feeling of loneliness suddenly crept upon him. In all his years he'd never had a friend or even the trust of anyone....so the idea of suddenly losing this was rather, dare he say, frightening to Discord. And he immediately put things to right, yet another defeat at the hooves of these ponies.

Though this came with the added bonus of someone who trusted him unconditionally....even if the others were a touch reluctant.

Infact he noticed this reluctance a lot. When his age old plunderseeds finally gestated and began to grow, granted it was still his fault, Fluttershy was the only one to trust his innocence whereas the others were all too quick to place the blame on him. Including the new 'Princess', oh that was fun. Ofcourse he couldn't act upon his desires to reek havoc when he found out the elements had been returned to that accursed old tree for another friendship threat, but atleast he now knew that would never be a problem anymore.

However that nagging feeling of 'trust' was always in play, granted, it was enough to land his 'friends' into all sorts of mischief even if it was to prove mostly to himself that these ponies were indeed his friends, especially Twilight with her new Sister-in-Law; Princess Cadence, but it was always ringing with an air of reluctance stuck out with Discord on an unreadable level. So he sought to find a way, any way, that could possibly alleviate that reluctance and prove he was indeed these pony's friend...even if he had a twisted view of how to express that.

The the issue of the box came about.

The notable pattern that he had been slowly catching onto whilst secretly reading the diary, amongst the growing issues with the six ponies seemed to strike Discord with curiousity. The entries where they had doubted themselves all had the same pattern, doubt in themselves or some portion of themselves, a glimmer of insight from an outside source and finally a revival of what them themselves. Including, ofcourse, the objects they had been gifted by someone they'd obviously touched with their element. It struck him as stranger still that someone as perceptive as Twilight hadn't caught onto that pattern and decided to give his friends a gentle 'push' in the right direction.

Especially since he was apparently needed now!

Tirek was on the loose, again. Ah now that was an interesting time, or atleast what he'd heard of it, tasked by a fretful Celestia to hunt the creature down he left the bookmarked journal with Twilight and the others and went off on his little monster hunt. It was successful...unfortunately he hadn't counted on Tirek being even more manipulative than he himself. When he brought up the fact that with all the power Discord had, he had essentially been pedestalled as some sort of pony's pet, the master of Chaos started to review the situation at hand. It was true, he could do nothing of what he used to do anymore. No more manipulation or chaos of anything without a disapproving stare or gaze...well all from except Fluttershy. He was just a pet, an errand boy.

And that struck a nerve.

He was swayed and started to help Tirek in his absorbing and draining the three tribes of all their fundamental magic, it was incredible fun for the chaotic spirit who had gone for so long without so much as a tree to turn into a giant bag of popcorn! There were a few nagging points in his mind, seeing ponies struggle to even lift themselves and Twilight's brother actually sounding surprised at his betrayal made the draconequus a little confused. Had they not expected this? Little did he know the real surprise was yet to come.

When the cat was out of the bag about the newest princess and he was assured of Tirek's friendship, they were on their way to Ponyville. Finally, a friend who understood his need to create chaos, to change and manipulate, it was liberating to say the least. Discord couldn't help but secretly enjoy the looks on his 'ex' friend's faces at his 'sudden turn', it was humorous...but his humor shifted to dread as suddenly he was in the position he had played so many people into; the Fool. He had been used like he had used so many people and the irony, though not lost on him, still struck a painful chord.

Not only was he drained of something that made him unique and what made him himself, his namesake...he'd lost possibly all the trust and companionship of the one pony who through it all, had trusted him with unconditional friendship. All lost to him now. He literally had nothing but a pendant that meant just as much from someone he thought he could trust with for being himself.

When he was bargained off by Tirek with the rest of them, he was yet again surprised by the acts of these ponies...Twilight still asked for his freedom despite everything he did. She considered him a friend even after his betrayal. He and the others were worth Twilight's magic, her element, her raison detre...and even without his magic he felt...happy, something he'd never experienced in his entire life. He was moved by Twilight's sacrifice and offered her the once meaningless pendant he ahd been given, but now it did have meaning. A sign of their friendship together.

And inadvertedly, through all this chaos, he had turned out to be the one to give the princess her key.

What came next, in his opinion, would most likely be sung through Equestria for years to come. Tirek was defeated once more, a new kingdom of Ponyville had arisen, with the Princess of Friendship at its helm with her friends in toe...including himself! Granted he has a bit of patching up to do from his prior misdeed, but he's happy. He has friends, he knows how much he is worth and he is happy and accepted and doesn't need to fall to petty pranks and mischief now.

....

Well....

Not all the time, atleast. He is after all, still Discord.

Character Summary/Personality:

Discord is as his namesake. He is mischief, chaos, disagreement at its purest with a surprisingly creative flair to him. His manipulation of the world around him is only bound to the limits of his imagination, which, by what he's capable of, is quite limitless and vivid. His penchance for manipulating the physical plane in his own twisted view of playfulness however has come off as evil in the past - not that he wasn't evil, he just prefers a certain way to things. He prefers the sky a certain colour. The clouds a certain type of chocolate. And other things that have had him incarcerated in stone twice.

Saying he's a playful creature is a great understatement, he adores games of all kinds and has an odd sense of rating how 'fair' a game is, for example - he is allowed to cheat, but everyone else has to play fair. But those were mostly times when he was being manipulative for his own ends, which he can still be, but on a much smaller scale nowadays. He will always try for the last piece of cake. Games and fun in general is something he can get behind, as well as a good prank or two...he can however, tend to go a little too far. Sometimes being far too needy for attention and going to vast degrees of attempts to get it.

Saying he can 'overdo' things is an understatement, not having much patience his aloof and cool head can quickly turn to a short tempered tantrum and soon enough his powers can amplify and mimic to match his current mood and/or state of mind. Making him rather volatile at first glance.

At his core however it's obvious that he's had little to no socialising in his life, having been mostly alone and viewed as a threat with no one to gently reign him in or teach him what makes people comfortable and what is pushing boundaries. He barely aknowledges his loneliness when he's in full swing of his creative dark nature, however when it does come up, it's rather painfully obvious how it effects him and how much it might have affected him when he was much younger.

However the influence from his new friends has allowed those feelings of loneliness to fade with time, especially Fluttershy who he considers his best friend and before the recent acceptance of the others, the only friend that trusted him. Her influence has certainly opened up his more observational side for the sake of others rather than just himself, understanding what's important to other people and trying to help in his own way which opens up for their own discovery rather than just outright telling them.

Which helps him keep his own air of mystery, whilst still helping.

After all, Master of Chaos has to keep his mystery!
