History: Mirror Shards came to Canterlot from a distant land by the sea when he was a young colt during the time of Red Pendragon's reign and before his son was born. His family was in the business of glass-working and mirror-making and they had traded their wares with other pony villages before coming to settle in Canterlot, where they felt business was best.

Aside from glass-blowing and other kinds of glass-smithing, Mirror's parents, Glass Shards and Jewel Shards, were especially known for their creative use of recycled broken glass and enchanted mirrors. The works they created from the broken glass were mostly just decorative, such as mosaics and mobiles made for nobles and those rich enough to afford such luxury. The enchanted mirrors, however, were far more rare and precious, too precious for the family to allow them to be sold to just anypony.

They only created a few due to the long and arduous process it took to produce these mirrors, but those few were marvels in that they showed ponies things such as the appearance of their true, inner self (mean ponies as ugly, ruthless ponies as brutes, kind ponies as lovely, etc.) or reflected the magical aura of ponies and magical inanimate objects (color and size of aura, like a pony who had great magical powers would be show to have a strong, bright aura even if they didn't appear to have any special talent). These magic mirrors were reserved for ponies such as friends of the family, those who performed kind deeds for others, or needed aid in their quests.

Mirror Shards did his best to take after his parents' superb skills, but he often ended up dropping the glass they worked with and shattering them. His parents assured him that the piece wasn't broken; it just needed a chance to be reborn, which was when they showed him how to work with the shards to create their infamous recycled works of glass. He excelled at this, but what Mirror Shards really wanted to know was how to create the enchanted mirrors. His parents assured him they would show him how when the time came.

However, this was not to be. When Red Pendragon returned from fighting dragons to find his beloved queen dead, the Shards family was in trouble. Due to the nature of their trade, it was difficult for them to make a living without imbuing at least a little magic into their work, but they managed to get by for the most part and hid away the rest of their wares that radiated the old magic, including the magic mirrors. Mirror Shards was devastated, but his parents insisted that it was necessary and that he was still too young to understand, though now he was a young juvenile.

That devastation soon turned to anger and hate. One day, a rich lord came into the shop asking for one of the magical mirrors he had heard about from long ago when old magic was still practiced. Jewel and Glass Shards insisted that they had no such mirrors to give the wealthy noblepony and told him they could not create such a work again because of Red Pendragon's law. The lord, angry and bitter, left, only to send his servants to raid the shop that very night. The few magical mirrors his parents had hidden away were discovered and destroyed, the lord spitefully turning the Shards over to the king to be put to death for use and possession of old magic.

With the death of Jewel and Glass Shards, Mirror Shards was left alone. He was spared because of his youth and inexperience in his trade, his parents swearing with their last words that he had never been taught an ounce of old magic. As long as he stuck to his trade of making ordinary mirrors and glass wares, Mirror Shards was free to remain in Canterlot and continue his parents' work, although he did so with great malice and anger toward Red Pendragon. He was grateful when the king never returned.

Though Mirror doubted he would ever reach the high level of skill and talent his parents had exhibited together, he did his best on his own, teaching himself and learning from his mistakes. Eventually he came across some old scrolls from his parents' younger days when they had first began to experiment with the creation of magic mirrors and began to study said scrolls during his nights when the shop was closed. He vowed he would one day learn the art again and honor his parents' needless death.

At the moment, the most magic he can imbue - mostly as a curse to those who are neglectful in his glass shop - is to bring bad luck to anypony who breaks any of his glass works. The duration and severity of bad luck varies depending on the object, however, and as no pony can prove this magic of minor luck exists for certain, he can't be arrested for the use of old magic.

While he wished to transfer all his loathing for the late king to his son, the new Pendragon, Mirror Shards knows somewhere in his heart that the young prince is innocent. His lust for vengeance is strong, however, and it overpowers his good judgement and sense of morals. His current goal is to someday make a magic mirror that will show the user a world reflected as Mirror Shards sees it. He wants to make it so powerful that, even broken, if the shards enter a pony's body, they will see the world reflected as bitter, cruel, and remorseless; unworthy of mercy.

He wants the prince to know how he felt when his parent died. Mirror's ultimate goal is that after his heart has become hardened by this sight, the ponies of Canterlot will see the prince as being just as corrupted by his emotions as his predecessor and want to rebel against him, possibly dethroning him and bringing about his downfall.

The question is...will Mirror Shards come to know the prince for who he truly is - a ruler different from his father and a friend of lesser ponies - before his own emotions of vengeance and hate overtake him...?
Character Personality: This unicorn is almost always serious. He believes in hard work over talent and devotes himself so much to his trade that he forgets to have fun. Since his parents were put to death, he was never the same. His hate and anger drives him, giving him purpose to his actions and a reason to live, though the only other ponies he loved - his parents - are gone. Vengeance is all he has left. Is there possibly someway or somepony who can turn him around and show him that there can be more to life...? Only time will tell. Perhaps one day he will realize that, like himself, the young Pendragon was also just an innocent young colt who lost his parents to negative emotions, malice, rage, pain, and hate.
Character Summary: Everything about the character should be nicely summarized here.
