Roleplay Type: WoE

Name: Lokelani Kahula (Loh-kee-lahn-ee Ka-hoo-la), translating into 'Divine Rose Who Dances'.

Sex: Female

Age: Young Mare

Species: Earth Pony

Eye color: Gradient purple to light red

Coat: A healthy cream color, bordering on pale yellow

Mane/Tail: Lani's mane and tail are a vibrant, lime green color, with sections of them sporting pale hues of blue, purple, and red, running in a gradient from base to end. Her hair is naturally straight, but she gets it permed on a regular basis, leaving it full of bouncy curls, save for a few stray bangs.

Physique: Slender and lean, but toned, evidence of a mare clearly used to being and working outdoors.

Residence: A small hut on Thunderhooves Island, near the tourist city of Corralwood Corral. As Lani has begun making ventures to do some tourism of her own in Greater Equestria, however, she travels frequently and resides in different places.

Occupation: Tourist guide - specifically a nature guide, providing information about native flora and fauna to tourists on designated nature walks. She also makes a decent performer, having learned the two forms of hula dancing from a young age, and is even skilled with fire dancing, though she has yet to actually perform a fire dance for a show.

Cutie Mark: A coconut drink surrounded by a few melia flowers.

As a young filly, Lani grew up to despise the tourism trade on the Gallopocus Islands, feeling the performances and exaggerated elements an insult to the heritage of the native islanders, selling out their culture to entertain a few ponies. Even as she learned about the island she was living on - the history, the culture, the flora and fauna - Lani was dead set against working in the tourist industry like her parents. The Earth Pony found ways to occupy her time on different farms rearing exotic fruits and plants, and would have most likely happily stayed there.

It was a day like any other, however, that the young filly came across a sulking young colt who was hiding out on a sugar cane plantation. He and his family were vacationing on the Islands, but it soon became apparent to Lani that the colt was not at all pleased with their extended vacation, apparently having been torn away from his friends right before a big hoofball season on the mainland. His irritation was apparent in the derisive way he spoke about the Islands, and Lani became so incensed at his callous words that she abruptly pulled the colt into the forests of Thunderhooves.

Lani began explaining the myriad of wonders the Gallopocus Islands had to offer, pointing out different exotic plants, climbing up trees to pull down a few bananas, and spotting even the most reclusive of animals to show off to the colt. Her impulsive tour ended with a Hula 'Auana dance, and combined with everything he'd been shown, the colt was surprised to realize he was enjoying himself for the first time since landing on the Gallopocus. Lani was pleased to have improved the colt's mood and opinion regarding her home, and slowly realized that tourism was not a sell out of culture, but a way to share and explain it to the unfamiliar. Lani's cutie mark appeared on her flank, and the young filly returned home with a renewed outlook of her family's life.

History: Born and raised on Thunderhooves Island in the Gallopocus, a life of simple pleasures, lazy afternoons, and freedom are all Lani has ever known. When she was born, the infant foal reached out for the nearest object available and found some rose petals, a gift for the new mother, and was named accordingly by her besotted parents. As she grew older, the Earth Pony was quick to make friends where she could make them, and indulgent in her easy-going lifestyle. Though nowhere near rich, the booming tourist industry of Corralwood Corral made it easy for Lani's parents, and thus, easy for Lani. Her early years were spent on the beach with her friends, sipping coconut milk on the rooftop, and dozing in a hammock underneath the warm sun.

Her filly years didn't change much, even as Lani started learning more and more about the islands she lived on. The emergence of her cutie mark pushed the Earth Pony to figure out exactly what sort of role she wanted to fill - her lazy walks through the forests eventually paved the way for her to become a nature guide, leading tourists along nature trails to showcase the exotic flora and fauna exclusive to the Gollopocus. As a nature filly herself, this suited Lani just fine, and she fell into the role spectacularly. Like most others her age, the Earth Pony also spent time learning the traditional dances of the islands, specifically the hula dance, and Lani started seeking performances to induct herself into. She also took steps to learn fire dances, with mixed success thanks to her lazy nature. Still, the showmareship of fire dances appealed to Lani, enough for her to learn the basics.

Living in a tropical paradise was fine and dandy for Lani as she entered adulthood, but even with her fairly indulgent lifestyle, the Earth Pony began to grow a bit bored. After seeing tourists come and go and hearing of Greater Equestria for all her life, the idea of doing some tourism of her own began growing in Lani's head. It eventually took root, and with her parent's support, the Earth Pony gathered a large chunk of her money in preparation of heading onto the mainland. She will probably take the actual plunge and board a ship in the near future - just as soon as she can wake up from her nap on top the warm beaches.

Character Summary: Though she may not look the part, Lani is a quintessential 'beach bum'. Lazy, indulgent, and carefree, Lani knows she lives a life most ponies dream up for their retirement, and relishes in it. Everything about Lani's life is indulgent, almost opulent in a strange way, filled with tropical drinks, sun towers, and sturdy hammocks instead of jewels and silks. Having grown up in a fairly sheltered and strongly-knit community, Lani has little reason to look out for herself when everypony else does it for her, and it shows in the Earth Pony's carefree and lackadaisical nature. She is friendly and accommodating to friends and strangers alike, well-used to dealing with both.

Unlike her hardworking parents, Lani is lazy and lax, preferring to laze under the palm trees or take up some waves along the coastline rather than work. Said laziness stems not from a want to be physically inactive, but more out of a desire to simply do what she wants, when she wants. Lani does genuinely enjoy her job as a tourist guide and performer, but often wishes she could just do it less. Luckily for her, she keeps faithful to her work, even if there have been a few terse moments of oversleeping and being late for tour groups. It is an entirely common sight to see Lani gently swinging in an hammock underneath some palm trees, or sitting with her friends around a beach fire.

Though she may be inherently lazy, Lani is no sloth. She is a nature filly through and through, and enjoys traipsing through the wild forests of Thunderhooves Island from time to time. The Earth Pony is knowledge about the flora and fauna native to her home, and often makes a point to weave melia flowers through her mane, the same flowers that her cutie mark boasts. Being in nature is something that Lani grew up with, and climbing coconut trees or camping out on the cliffside have become a natural part of her life. Surfing is one of her favorite activities, and coupled with a nice beach fire and a couple of drinks, Lani could happily stay out on the water all day.

Despite her usually mellow and laid-back personality, the relatively quiet foalhood she lived had an unintended side effect on Lani's personality. Though her outward appearances look innocent enough, Lani houses a somewhat ferocious and wild excitability insider her, that tends to show during moments of violence or chaos. When a brawl breaks out, Lani is the first to start cheering on the sidelines, rather than stepping in to break up the fight. And it is an entirely easy matter to locate Lani during one of her fire dancing practices, screaming up into the sky as she almost maniacally flings about flaming batons. The Earth Pony isn't a violent mare by any stretch of the imagination, but it would also be a stretch to think of her as gentle.

Overall however, Lani is a generally nice mare who finds it easy to form new relationships, even if she isn't the most reliable of friends. In her never ending quest to slow down and enjoy life, Lani has no qualms dragging other ponies around her to do the same, and if nothing else, she can always be counted on to have a coconut drink at the ready at the end of a long day.
