History:

Durango Black was one of six colts born into a rough and tumble family. His mother, Calamity, was a deputy in the services of Swift Justice, a renowned frontier lawpony. She was charmed by his father, Bolt N' Blue, a noted criminal on his way to trial. She became smitten and allowed him to escape and they fell in love. Bolt N' Blue was able to clear his name with good deeds and the household was notable for its supposed dedication to good and homely things. Like his brothers, Durango was raised to have the utmost respect for law.

The family moved when he was very young to the newly established frontier town of Appleoosa, where his parents' noted reputation from Swift Justice allowed them to become the official lawponies of the town. As the sons grew older, they were deputized. Durango Black quickly showed a streak of rebelliousness and casual cruelty that did not enamor him to the townsfolk or other lawponies, but his parents continued to try and help him. They believed that he, like his father, could and would be good if only they gave him the chance.

Durango didn't see it that way. He was a late bloomer and often teased by his brothers who all seemed to inherit the often times acidic humor of their father. Both parents came down in the arena of tough love, and he never felt what they were trying to give him- love. His friendships were fleeting

Durango seemed to turn the corner and even became a town hero when he stopped a bank robbery at night being conducted by a famous outlaw. What ponies didn't know is that he was in on the plot from the start, and used the 'shootout' to cover his own theft, blaming it on two surviving outlaws who fled. With the leader of the outlaw gang out of the picture, Durango challenged the three remaining top dogs to a High Noon Hornfight. All three, unaware of his involvement in the 'failed' heist, agreed, and he defeated all three. He was a hero in town- and leader of his own outlaw gang.

The gang would strik multiple high value targets outside of the small frontier town, including a train robbery that took several million pure bit gold. Using his knowledge of law enforcement tactics, the gang evaded Swift Justice's growing posse. When the posse grew large enough to cause him some trouble, he decided to ambush them at night. Swift Justice was forced to surrender and was taken back to Durango Black. The older lawpony was horrified to discover the truth, but still obliged the younger outlaw when he was offered the chance to duel for his life rather than get destroyed by two dozen outlaws. After all, Swift Justice was the fastest horn in the w-

-Was, being the operative word. When it was done, Durango thought he had taken care of his problems. However, a member of the posse survived and recognized Durango and returned to civilization. Quickly his cover was blown. He shrugged and decided to blow this popsicle stand with one last big heist before he went into hiding. The First National Bank of Appleoosa was the target, the same bank he had saved before. Riding into town with his gang, he found it deserted- with only his parents and siblings in the open. They pleaded with him to stop. He responded by fighting them. The ensuing engagement is known as the First Battle of Appleoosa. He would eventually get to the bank, take what he wanted, and burn it down.

Afterwards, the frontier of Equestria was left lawless for some time, starting a series of outlaw gang fights and ranch-farming conflicts that required the deployment of the REA to quell. He became the most wanted fugitive in Equestria, but his cult of personality and ability to make bank for his gang meant it took some time(and a better reward) until he was captured. In transport, he escaped. And was captured. He went to prison and escaped. He went to another prison and escaped. He spent a considerably amount of the wealth he had accumulated bribing some and convincing other less reputable sources to help spring him.

After his wealth was spent on the last of his escapes- reputed to be being sent to the Princesses for incarceration in the dungeons of Canterlot, or maybe even Tartarus- he decided that it was only a matter of time until he was found again. He fled, finding a pirate crew and using them to travel west. He would take over the crew, attack some Maretonian shipping, and use that booty to establish himself in Hesperia as the leader of Durango's Devils- a powerful gang with the Fastest Horn in the West as their leader.

Character Personality:

Durango is charismatic and easy to speak with, a certain charm about him that allows him to easily switch conversational topics and points of view. He can talk his way out of considerable amounts of trouble, but that doesn't mean he doesn't in all actuality crave it. While he will often stack the deck in his favor if needs be, he knows his talent in a hornfight is second to none and loves proving it time and time again. His arrogance is sadly bolstered by history as he takes these engagements very seriously. He has no qualms about training others to fight for him, but he also has no qualms about sending his own gang into poor situations if it betters him.

He is very selfish but an element of that selfishness is a survival instinct that tells him it is best to keep those around him happy. He treats his inner circle very well and an even smaller core who he especially trusts could be considered 'friends'. To these ponies he is somewhat protective and trusting and treats slights against them like slights against himself. They get more than their peers and their families are very well protected. The inner circle has yet to betray him, but those outside of that circle have betrayed him before. As great as he can be to those close to him he considers traitors to be lower than dirt and will attack them, their families, their legacies, and anything else he can touch until they are buried and forgotten by everypony except as a symbol as the fate of traitors.

He isn't unnecessarily cruel to the average pony. He targets those who can offer him riches or a challenge and leaves the rest alone. He is known as a great tipper for great service ponies, though he will gladly ruin a tavern if they treat him poorly. He seems to have a soft spot for little colts and fillies and will ensure that his actions don't harm them- but only to a certain point, as his own success and survival trumps that. He has a certain code that eliminates actions against underage ponies and those that don't present a threat but he is quick to prioritize his survival over this code, and will blame the victims for it. When in control he treats those who follow his laws and orders well.

He doesn't have much of a romantic side and his relationships with mares and stallions alike are short lived and selfishly pursued for his own ends.
