Character Summary: Born in Cloudsdale, Cobalt was destined to follow in his parents' hoofsteps and become a weather factory worker. However, he was terrible when it came to manual labor such as stirring rainbows and other things at the weather factory. Add to the fact that he wasn't the best student--not dumb, he just didn't really care for it--and you have a recipe for a bad future. However, after coming home from school one day, his parents suprised him with a spot in the Junior Speedsters Flight Camp, which he had been asking to go to for years. He wanted to go into racing and, if his course times were any indication, he seemed destined to. His parents didn' approve much, they just mostly wanted him to find something special, because they were worried about him. What parent wouldn't be worried about their only son? Then, of course, comes the story of his cutie mark. A couple years into the camp, Cobalt's family had fallen on hard times. His father had lost his job, and was still looking for a new one while he did odd jobs around Cloudsdale, and the family couldn't rely on one paycheck that was unsteady at best, when it came to job security. Cobalt helped out however he could, even though it wasn't much. However, one day in the square, he noticed a race sponsored by the Wonderbolts. The prize? 2,000 bits. More than enough to tide them over untill Cobalt's father found a steady job. Of course, seizing the oppritunity, he signed up on the spot and immediately rushed home to begin training.

His parents were less than thrilled. "Cobalt!" they would keep saying, "I don't care how much money it is! It's too dangerous, you're not going!" Of course; he kept training, much to his parents' annoyance. He would get togeather with his friends at night and time each other, practice manuvers, and other things to keep them in shape. Eventually, as his parents started realizing what he was doing and stayed up so he couldn't sneak out, he had to limit his practices to only daylight hours. This continued right up untill the day before the race, where he asked his parents if he could sleep over at a friend's house because he wasn't allowed to race and had nothing else to do. Of course, this was a farce. As soon as he had gotten there, he headed straight for the arena with 5 of his friends to cheer him on.

Cobalt and his friends arrived just in time for him to make it onto the track. It was immediately clear who would win, as Cobalt quickly rose to 2nd place. However, Murphy's Law had to go and jam itself into the mix. "Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong". And go wrong it did. It just so happened a group of less-than law abiding ponies had bet a hefty sum on one of Cobalt's compeditors, and hired some heavy muscle to make sure they got their profit. The goons busted into the nearby factory and got off with a bunch of storm clouds, heading towards the track. Of course, they were heading to the track. They made quick work of turning the few meager storm clouds into a raging thunderstorm. Right above the track. Everything proceeded as normal, Cobalt was gaining on the leader, and there was 1 lap to go. Until the unthinkable happened. The lead racer was struck with a stray lightning bolt.

There is nothing quite like getting hit with lightning, as you can expect. The unfortunate pegasus plummeted out of the sky, smoke trailing from his charred mane and tail. Cobalt, thinking on his hoofs, lakes one last look at the finish line, and drops after the falling racer like a stone, his wings pushing him downward. Of course, Cobalt caught up with him, and managed to get his arms underneath the falling pony. This, as you can recall, was not Cobalt's strong suit. He lifted with all his might, and manages to slow their fall down considerably. But, alas, this wasn't enough. They both crashed into the ground. This even would leav Cobalt with a scar on his face he would cover with his hair, and an irrational and deep fear of thunder.

He woke up in the hospital around 2 days later, to his friends and family crowding around his bed. He learned that he had slowed what would have been a fatal fall for both of them, and the pony that was with him had turned all right. He also learned that he had recieved his cutie mark sometime during the ordeal. He would later go on to joke about this, saying things like "Hey, I would have thrown myself into the ground at high speeds earlier if I knew that is all it took!". Also, and quite ironic in the fact, Cobalt's father had recieved his job back the morning of the race, making the whole thing useless. Apparently, they needed a huge order filled, and he was going to tell Cobalt when he got home from his friend's house. Of course, Cobalt was infuriated that he had lost the race. "Sure, I saved a pony. But think of the fame, the glory!" was a common phrase uttered for aroudn the next week and a half. Sure, he would mention, he was reviered around the town as a hero, but a title wasn't bright and shiny. He did know he made the right choice, however, and managed to stop whining about it evenutally. However, the racing bug and he desire to win stuck with him, leading him to train more, race more, and generally try to be the best. He eventually made a job of it, racing for the thrill and winning prize money where he could.

(Edit Summary: Finalized. I added the "-ish" as many of things here are subject to change if I suddenly hate it again. But if it get's accepted before I go crazy on it, I'm fine with that. Again, art credit to Emerald.)

Looks good so far, but there's also not much here.

He's a Stallion now, but you don't have anything about his History. What things does he or did he like to do? What hobbies did/does he have? What about his mother, was she a weather Pegasus too? Did his father have a weather specialty? How do his parents feel about him becoming a racer (potentially a dangerous profession?), rather than a weather Pegasus? How did he become a race Pegasus? Does Cobalt Flare still live with his parents, or did he strike out on his own at some point? What was significant about the time Cobalt Flare got his Cutie Mark? How does it relate to his special talent? What has Cobalt Flare failed or succeeded at in life? How did those things make him stronger or change his life, and did they do so for better or for worse?

Try to flesh out the character a bit. Remember, everypony only knows as much about the character as you tell them.

Looks like you could just use a couple more things. Does Cobalt have any hobbies outside of racing? Anything else he likes to do?

Also, about the big race. While Cobalt got his Cutie Mark, and his dad got his job back, Cobalt still lost. How did he feel about that? Was he upset at losing his first race? Or did he think that saving the life of somepony else was worth throwing in the towel?

Looks like you may be almost done. :)
