Character Summary:

Vintage is the youngest of five, being the youngest by quite a bit, the sibling above her being a filly. Consequently while she was growing up her parents were getting on in years and weren't quite as able as they used to be. This mean she was around a lot of older things seeing as her parents held on to them. Even though Vintage was born blind and so couldn't read, she loved books, her parents reading many from the extensive library they owned. Vintage, not being a stupid Pony was aware that her parents were very cautious around her, as she grew up she was not allowed the same freedoms as ponies her age did, and she knew, from asking them, that her siblings had not received the same treatment. This began to irritate her, but she didn't say anything.

One day she was sitting in the library her father was reading to her from an old heavy book, about animals, she was only half listening, the summer sun was warming her coat, making her sleepy, but when her father mentioned bats she perked up. They were blind, like her, but used sonar to find out where objects were and were able to fly with ease, while Vintage obviously couldn't fly, it would definitely help her even just walking !

She began then and there to push out any kind of magic from her horn, and it worked ! A little, for the first time, she knew where the floor was in relation to the chair she was lying on. This relation made her jump up. It couldn't be very strong magic, as her father hadn't noticed anything, she tried again, pushing out the same relatively weak wave of magic to find her surroundings. While what she could see wasn't very far or detailed it was her first look at the real shape of the chair and of herself. She loved this new realization and began to practice with fervour, telling her parents what she was doing and having them help a great deal. However, she got most exited the first time she levitated something, while this wasn't any kind of special magic for a unicorn her age, something truly incredible happened to her, she saw real detail for the first time. She had picked up a book and could tell what the cover looked like, and what pages looked like, even though she could still not decipher words.

This got her so worked up that she began to levitate everything, seeing the world in real detail for the first time, however, she never told her parents about this, leaving it as a surprise. Until the day she got her cutie mark ( see below).

After that her father trained her up in the art of repairs, even though she didn't need much training, but the practice helped her speed incredibly.

While she did like to repair things that ponies dropped off, she loved to rescue old objects more. To find an old dis guarded object that had been deemed broken for good or worthless by it's previous owner and fixing it up to its former glory and selling it on.

Cutie mark story :

Vintage's parents owned an old repair shop, had had long since given up training any of their children getting interested in the business before Vintage was born. Even after, they never trained Vintage into it as she was blind, and they thought she wouldn't be able to see any of the little cogs and things that it took to repair the things that they got in. Vintage however, could levitate the cogs and see them so clearly she could beat out her father for fitting them together, as she could focus so hard, being able to turn of any visual distractions from the outside world immediately, but this is what she kept secret, to surprise her family with. One day her father had been struggling with a particularity complex old pocket watch for a very rich client and had stormed out of his workshop in frustration, his wife followed him to give him comfort.

It was then that little Vintage sneaked into the work shop and picked up all the cogs one by one, then the stopwatch. She could focus on all the particular little dips and rises in the cogs and fit them all together perfectly. It took her quite a while though, to push in each cog to where it was supposed to go. When she had finished she tested the watch by winding it up, the triumphant tick, tick tick, of the now functional pocket watch was one of the best sounds she had ever heard, letting loose a loud woop of exhilaration. The noise pulled her parents back through and her father, amazed at the now functional watch told his daughter that he'd never been prouder. It was then that she got her cutie mark, a pocket watch identical to the one she had just fixed.

I like this application - it's a bit of an odd bird and different in and of itself, but that's part of the charm with characters not so run of the mill.

I can't see anything gratuitously wrong with the application overall, so I'm stamping...
