Guiding Starlight (Final)

Sorry, my computer or my browser did not like your formatting.

Roleplay Type: World of Equestria (Mane)

Name: Guiding Starlight

Sex: Female

Age: Young mare

Species: Unicorn

Eye Color: Yellow

Coat Color: Light cocoa brown

Mane/Tail/Markings Color & Style: Cocoa brown. Her mane is simple, mostly hanging over one side, and her tail is completely unstyled

Physique: This mare is in good shape, clearly hardened by an athletic, physically demanding life, with strong legs, though she is a smaller pony overall. She is built for endurance rather than speed.

Cutie Mark: Hers is a yellow light symbol which resembles the sun somewhat. It represents her love for showing people the way to their destinations and rescuing them from being lost, literally and metaphorically.

Origin/Residence: Guiding Starlight originally hails from an obscure community in the southwest part of the Saddleveil Plains, near the Harridan Mountains. She and her community were nominally nomadic, composed mostly of earth ponies and some unicorns.

Occupation: At home, Guiding Starlight was a guide and navigator for villagers who needed to cross the Harridan Mountains or reach the nearest Equestrian outpost. She would also offer these services to travellers, and she would act as a ranger of sorts, patrolling the dry plains and helping those who were lost. Now she is a vagabond, and her occupation is up in the air.

Motivation: Guiding Starlight loves nothing more than to see everyone able to navigate their lives' paths, and she seeks to help others along their paths when she can.

Character Summary: Guiding Starlight is a reserved, soft-spoken unicorn. She usually wears a neutral expression, though mild smiles can be coaxed from her, and she is capable of being loud when it is required of her. She usually appears unassuming, walking with her head somewhat low and wearing no ornaments or anything which makes her stand out. Despite this, she is adept at making herself visible and lighting the way with her horn.

She gained her cutie mark when a loved one of hers went missing. She knew her loved one was lost, and wished so badly to bring them home that her horn shone brightly enough to be seen from a fair distance and she wandered the plains as a beacon for several days. When her loved one spotted her and they met each other, she was overjoyed, and her cutie mark manifested. She proceeded to use her talent to do what she loved most: help others reach their destinations.

Guiding Starlight was born to two unicorns in an obscure, nameless village in the western Saddleveil Plains, near the southern tail of the Harridan Mountains. She was raised always on the move – when it was not her village moving to new pastures, it was her family accompanying villagers through the mountains to the Griffin lands, or wandering the plains on the lookout for lost travelers. Eventually Guiding Starlight would perform this task alone, wandering the plains at night with her horn shining as a beacon to those who were lost. Donations and fees drawn from outsiders in return for Guiding Light's family's services were critical to the village's survival.

Eventually, her parents told her that she had the potential to help others across Equestria, and that she should not limit herself to a backwater part of the plains. So, her father came out of retirement to take Starlight's place as the sole guide for the village, and Starlight set off to wander Equestria in hopes of helping the literally and metaphorically lost, though unsure of what exactly to do and uncertain of settling down in the future.

(This is ready to ship unless the staff has anything else that it needs me to address!)

Hm, drat. Is it absolutely required that your name not overlap with anybody else's? I'd still prefer to leave it as is. Otherwise, I'm open to suggestions as to how to change the name, even if it's something extremely minor. And it might even be conducive to RP to share a name.

Thoughts?

Greetings,

I am enjoying this application and character. :) I just have a couple questions regarding her.

She gained her cutie mark when a loved one of hers went missing. She knew her loved one was lost, and wished so badly to bring them home that her horn shone brightly enough to be seen from a fair distance. When her loved one returned, she was overjoyed, and her cutie mark manifested.

This is a little vague, because it could be interpreted either as her lost love happening to able to spot her glowing horn from a distance and find his way to her, or that she used her horn magic (including the light it gave, possibly at night) to find them and lead them back. I feel there is a lot of potential in this story and I would love to see it elaborated upon.

You mention these days she is an itinerant wanderer alone. What does she do now that she is on her own? Does she ever want to settle down someplace and offer a guide service or is she content being an itinerant wanderer looking for the lost? Also why did she separate from her family/tribe?

I left it deliberately ambiguous to save the staff from the chore of reading and because I generally prefer for these kinds of stories to be told from the character's perspective during RP rather than by the writer. But since you're interested, I'll clarify it!. I've edited the post to reflect this.

She left her village because her parents told her that she has potential to touch lives across Equestria, rather than limiting herself to a backwater part of the plains. To replace her, her father offered to come out of retirement (her parents are relatively old). Guiding Starlight doesn't know exactly what she wants to do, so she'll wander Equestria (like the itinerant intellectual Faust, if you know him), helping others as she travels, until she settles down, if she decides to. Edited the OP to reflect all this. And if there isn't anything else to address, hopefully that's the final draft!

Edit:

Also, I should note* that her chronology/RP begins just as she's leaving her village, so she hasn't actually done anything yet. Her first stop will be Appleloosa.

Edit again*
