For pirates, they were a fairly decent lot. Diamond Dog settlements were their primary targets, and always had been. Gems were worth a lot of bits, and piracy was always about making money. Even so, his father had a unicorn friend from his childhood who helped create some special "stun" weapons - and Darkmane used them ever since, reasoning that if they didn't hurt anypony, there would be less reason to hunt them down.So they don't hurt anyone; just stun them long enough to get what they like and leave.
