For those of you using a dedicated client rather than the on-site one, the method for registering a nick on this and any other nickserv-enabled server is simply "/msg Nickserv REGISTER <password> <email-address>"

If you notice somebody else using your name, or if you're waiting for another machine to log off, you can also use "/msg nickserv GHOST <your nickname> <your password>" and it will disconnect whatever machine is using your nickname from the network.

This hurts to read.

Since you've not actually included any specifics as to what you said, how you said it, who this person is, or anything that might actually tell others why he took offense, it's kind of impossible to answer the question that you asked as to what you did wrong!
