"the thing" intrest check and sign up

I have an idea for a rp in the style of the movie “the thing”

or those of you who don’t know what that is, it’s a very good horror movie from the 80’s about a group of men stranded in the arctic with a shape shifting alien trying to kill them and escape to the main lands. The interesting thing about this movie was that the monster was similar to the mlp changelings and could replicate one of the characters

the role play would be similar with our characters all isolated. But soon after the rp starts one of us will be selected to become the thing and will start to try to actively try to pick us off and destroy us, someone killed by the thing becomes a part of it and can continue to disguise them selves as there character or choose be creative and try to hunt the survivors down!

Essentially 12 little Indian/ponies.

Is anyone interested in this as a concept?

The thing role play

Character name;

Species;

Job (repairman, coms officer, helicopter pilot must make snese for the setting)

Movie relation “if any”

Coat and mane color

Character personality description

Rank “if you don’t know your mitary ranks just say how much leadership and authority they should have. note that once the base is in an emergency status the ponies can freely elect a new pony in charge. Otherwise the established chain here will state who helps make and decide the big choices”

personal equipment; private things, memonento's or weapons

Setting

Outpost 31# a small quite research station out in the icy wastelands of the crystal north. The nearest civilization is quartz outpost a much larger base which has a train to the crystal kingdom.

Outpost 31 itself is equipped with a radio tower a supply shack a helipad. A full main facility with central heat and energy. It has a full barrack, fully stocked med bay and kitchen. It also has a small kennel and lounge. There is a communication and radar room on opposite ends of the base and is overall about 500 feet long.

Hazards and equipment.

If a character is out in the cold for more than a few post they will freeze. This can be prevented by wearing a coat, or having the tools

The base will have 3 flamethrowers, a bulldozer, a helicopter, 8 weeks worth of food for 9 ponies. Weather radar. A communication radio hooked up to Quartz. 150 gallons of gasoline. An emergency generator that runs on gasoline. A magical power generator that can run indefinitely with proper mantance. Several computers. And 10 assault rifles 5 pistols and aprox 900 rounds of ammo.

Note once these supplies are used up or destroyed the base will have to call in for more and wait for them.

inportant things to note.

since this is based off of "the thing" you should use a pony your too attached to since its very likely they may be killed.

your charecter may be selected to be the primary "thing" and will start off as a thing being evil and working against the ponies

if your charecter dies ther may still be ways you can help or hinder your team

Character Name: Rift Whisper

Species: Unicorn

Job: Maintenance Technician

Movie Relation: (i don't remember the movie  ) none

Description: (I'll edit in later)

Personality: Innovative and Organized, Rift carries his small leadership position with a seriousness that goes beyond what is required, and spends most of his time doing other ponies jobs as well as his own to maintain the base is at 100%. Which is the only reason he remains on the base after failing his Psyche evaluation, twice. (purely optional)

Rank: Staff Sargent

Personal Items: Dog-tags, Technician's Tool Belt, Metal Bracer With Heavy Inscriptions

(also, would the primary thing be stronger then his spawns/infection ponies. or would they all be of equal strength?)

Character Name: Ash

Species: Earth Pony

Job: Quartermaster

Movie Relation: None (Maybe a super crazy Childs?)

Description: Ash colored coat with various burn marks on the body and neck, blue and fiery red mane and tail, bright blue eyes. Due to his overexposure to fire, Ash is about 80% fireproof.

Personality: Ash shouldn't be anywhere near a flamethrower, nonetheless three; however his job entails the upkeep and management of the base's weaponry. Ash is quartermaster mostly because he's better working with objects than people, and if he's around the flamethrowers he's less likely to go seeking them out. As a certified pyromaniac, Ash is lucky to have any job at all, but because he was essential in clearing out timberwolf dens at his old base, the stallion still seems to find employment.

Rank: Private 1st class

Personal items: Blow torch, aerosol cans...you can probably guess what else he has and why he has it. Ash also has a blue lighter that says "Three Stooges 75th Anniversary" on it.

Good Apps so far.

To Answer your question seth no. All things will have equal strength.

The thing will have to use deception and isolation to defeat the ponies anyway.

The thing wiLl be able to overpower a single unarmed. Ponie easy. But 2 properly equiped ponies, and it will be in trouble

Character name: Ruby Dust

Species: Unicorn

Job: Mechanic/repairpony

Movie relation “if any”: Token female character to diversify gender who exists in every horror movie ever? ( never seen The Thing, so...)

Coat and mane color: Violate coat, Maroon mane and tail, both cut short and messy.

Character personality description: Ruby long ago stopped caring about anything but her job. She's abrupt, sarcastic, and doesn't like ponies very much, in fact she prefers machines to any living things. Ruby doesn't care at all for rank, and isn't afraid to speak her mind regardless of a pony's position or standing. She also has a rather grim sense of humor.

Rank “if you don’t know your mitary ranks just say how much leadership and authority they should have. note that once the base is in an emergency status the ponies can freely elect a new pony in charge. Otherwise the established chain here will state who helps make and decide the big choices”: Being the primary repair technician on base, she has authority only when it comes to machines and tech. Otherwise, she lets others do the deciding.

personal equipment; private things, memonento's or weapons: repair technicians kit, locket with the face of her dead wife in it, engraved revolver given to her by her wife just before her death, 3 packs of cigarettes, lighter shaped like Rainbow Dash's cutie mark.

Oooh, one of my favorite films! I want in!

Character Name: Iditarod

Species: Earth Pony

Job: Sled Dog Kennel Master

Movie Relation: Clark

Description: A tall, burly stallion of blonde coat, red mane, and green eyes. His cutie mark is a dog bowl with a bone sticking out of it.

Personality: Iditarod cares for the base's pack of sled dogs, whom he gets along with immensely. He seems to prefer the company of the dogs over his fellows though. He cares immensely for the well being and proper handling of the dogs. He's been known to overstep proper chain of command if proper procedure, requisitioning, and deployment of the dogs isn't followed, and will make sure that anyone who doesn't take care of the dogs out in the field will regret it. One could assume then that he cares more for the dogs than the mission, the base, or the crew. That said, he can be very friendly, and rather relaxed most evenings.

Rank: Specialist

Personal Items: Short leash and extra dog collars, matchbook, foil pack of "Backwood" cigars, and a K-bar knife.

The thing rule page

"MacReady: Somebody in this camp ain't what he appears to be. Right now that may be one or two of us. By spring, it could be all of us.

Childs: So, how do we know who's human? If I was an imitation, a perfect imitation, how would you know if it was really me?"

Since this is a unique role play unlike any I have seen before we are going to need some unique rules. Violations of these rules will result in a mandatory apologies and fixing with the edit button.

Outright violations and total disregard of these rules will result in the thing appearing right behind you

Rule 1. Death

"I'm gonna hide this tape when I'm finished. If none of us make it, at least there'll be some kind of record. The storm's been hitting us hard now for 48 hours. We still have nothing to go on"

Just like the real world death is possible in multiple ways. If you die as a pony then you will be not allowed to post, however you can still give hints to your teammates or opponents. I will monitor your status as simply “alive” “injured” “dead” when injured your character must seek medical attention as per the plot. Your character will be able to take a realistic amount of damage before dying occurs. (example; being shot in the head or chest, being out in the cold for too long) the thing is more durable than the ponies, But can be killed also.

Rule 2. Unposted actions

"Windows: You guys gonna listen to Garry? You gonna let him give the orders? I mean, he could BE one of those THINGS!"

Within the plot if you want to do something with out the other players noticing then you may perform an unposted action to do this you must follow these steps

  1. plot point; your character must be alone away from the eyes and ears of other ponies.
  2. Write and send to augercorn.; in microsft word or just right in the message bar. Type out your post and actions of your character as you normally would. These actions must keep in mind with the timeline, note that to make things easyer on the plot I may deny these actions to make the story smoother and make more sense.
  3. Space saver; quickly post the words UNPOSTED ACTION to tell the others your character is doing something unnoticed.

Example. Post 1; berry stands up from the meeting and says “I’m going to the bathroom be right back” berry walks out of the room

Post 2; unposted action

Post 3; berry comes back a satisfied look on his face and sits down “o.k did I miss anything?”

Rule 3. assimilation.

MacReady: [about to test his blood] Now I'll show you what I already know.

If your character is attacked by the thing then you will likely become assimilated. Your best choice for survival at that point is to continue as your character and then pick off other characters by deception. More information will be released once assimilated

Rule 4 keep track;

George Bennings: [Bennings rushes into Childs room] Childs, Mac wants the flamethrower!

Childs: Mac wants the what?

George Bennings: That's what he said. Now move!

Childs: [Childs tucks in his shirts and grumbles] **** it!

We arn’t pinke! We cant pull whatever we need from off the screen!

I will painstakingly keep track of the base’s equipment on the front page, check back often. Also your character must carry equipment to use it. For example in order for a character to use a flamethrower he must go to the armory and walk around with it. No pulling it out of nowhere or saying you had it all along. Once we run out of supplies then we got nothing and the thing has essentially won.

I will keep track of equipment on all the characters

Rule 5 no auto hit

Nobody can doge a bullet but still make it fair for others. No drawing a weapon and shooting and killing a another character all in one post.

Rule 6 keep it nice looking

This is really more a personal thing. But I really hate when people put ooc stuff in a role play it looks messy and jus takes away from everything. We will keep the ooc up please use that or messages.

Victory conditions

Ponies

the thing has been destroyed

the base has enough supplies to ensure survival.

The thing

Escape the base

Or

Kill all ponies and go back to freezing

A character I'm not too attached to... Easier said than done... I'll just use this character that's only been mentioned in one rp(he was already dead in that rp.), and one I've never used.

Character name; Black Bloom

Species; earth pony

Job: Scientist

Movie relation “if any”: none (never seen it)

Coat and mane color: His coat is a coal black, and his mane is a dark grey. His mane and tail are both of medium-length and messy. He also wears glasses, and can't see very well without them on.

Character personality description: Black is a serious stallion, not really one for jokes and such most of the time. He opens up more around his friends, but he is still rather serious. When he gets to work, he often becomes very focused, not really noticing the world around him until it directly affects him.

Rank “if you don’t know your mitary ranks just say how much leadership and authority they should have. note that once the base is in an emergency status the ponies can freely elect a new pony in charge. Otherwise the established chain here will state who helps make and decide the big choices”: I'd say he'd be fairly high up in the scientist's chain of command.

personal equipment; private things, memonento's or weapons: A picture of his family(parents and sister), a small, easily concealable pistol and knife in case of emergencies.
