Medō Asai (In Neighpon or Long Guo) Meadow (In Equestria)

Female

Young Mare

Medō's Mane and Tail are both black in color. Her mane is styled with bangs in the front, and flows down her neck in a rather tight braid. In very rare instances, she will leave her main unbraided, to which it will take a natural wavy appearance due to being in a braid all the time. Her tail however is smooth and kept as straight as she can with a small mane tie keeping it together with a small tuft at the bottom of her tail where it was all joined. Both her mane and her tail are immaculately well groomed thanks to her herbal knowledge.

Physique:

Medō is slim, in physique and about the average height for most unicorns. Her legs are tone as she spends most of her time out walking in her fields watching the flowers and and gathering herbs for the many natural remedies that she makes. She also travels back and forth from her fields to Jikan-tekina Teien, as she's one of the major suppliers of the botanical spas in the city.

Origin:

Neighpon, Island of Ryushima, Jikan-tekina Teien (Temporal Gardens)

Currently Resides:

Canterlot University, although frequently travels back to her homeland for family on off semesters.

Occupation:

Herbalist, Apothecary, and supplier of Botanical Spas

Cutie Mark:

A Small Bouquet consisting of a Yarrow Bloom, a Lavander Bloom, thistle leaf, and a red clover all nestled over an aloe blossum. Her Cutie mark Symbolizes her ability to magically find herbs, apothecarian treatments, and botanical aids. (Much like how Rarity's Gem Finding talent works, but for herbs and plants instead). She discovered her ability to find these herbs when the late emperor of Long Guo was on the island and his two young were scurrying the island and accidentally ingested a berry that looked like a normal grape and actually turned out to be Jasmine Berries, which were extremely poisonous.

She actually found the daughter laying in the grass already not feeling well from the berries, and thankfully the son hadn't eaten more than one and while feeling ill, was able to stave off some of the more severe symptoms. She was about to head back to the village and get help when her horn went off and started dragging her away from the village. She waited and eagerly tried to stop the horns pull as she watched the village fade, but then her magic stopped. When it did, she spotted a small batch of Nettles, Red Clovers, and a small burdock shrub that had been uprooted during their most recent storm. She rememberd from her mother's training that these herbs were good for removing toxins from the body so without hesitation, she took the herbs back to the village where the village elders had already found the two young, and the dragon-filly was getting worse.

Medō levitated the herbs over to the village alchemist and told him about the herbs that she found, and that her horn led her to them when she discovered the two young and where they were. She explained that she was trying to come back to get help but her horn wouldn't let her alter her course until she found the herbs. She was expecting to get reprimanded because she was certain she hadn't acted correctly or quick enough but instead the alchemist immediately started brewing the antidote for the poison and administered a dosage to both the colt and the filly, the colt as a precaution in case there were after affects not foreseen, and the filly for what would be a life saving treatment as the botanical herbs did there jobs and flushed the Jasmine's toxins from the filly's system. After the filly woke up, her cutie mark appeared.

Unique Traits:

Herb Finding: Medō has an uncanny knack for finding the herbs that she needs for any remedy that she can create. Whether she finds them through the meadows and the fields, or simply has to buy them from somepony else because they found them first matters not, she always seems to find exactly what she needs.

Apothecary and Alchemical Crafts: Medō uses her knowledge of what herbs can work together to create different affects on a ponies body. She only deals with natural herbs and won't touch any of the pharmaceutical methods for creating working medicines to treat the ill, and her healing and numbing salve could rival that of some of the best Zebra tribes.

Growth: because of her knowledge of herbs and botanical aids, she knows how to grow most of them and whenever she is able to find herbs that are seeding, she will take them home to plant.

History:

Medō was born in a very small village on the island of Ryushima. Her mother and father were both passionate farmers for the community that they served, and it came to quite a shock when her two earth pony parents gave birth to a unicorn. Apparently her father's side of the family had some unicorn ancestry in their past and the genes had made their way to her. It was overly apparent the day that she was born that she would be the one pony in the family that would be the least likely to carry on her family's farm and keep it thriving. Her mother, Aroe Beru Asai, was a white earth mare and spend most of her time preparing the crops from her farm to be transported into Jikan-tekina Teien. Her father, Ishi Kimimoto Asai, was a tan earth pony who spent most of the day out harvesting the crops with her aunts and uncles. They were one of the primary sources for rice, barley, and thyme in the village. They also grew other assortments of fruits and vegetables, but those were generally for the family alone as Jikan-tekina Teien already had a primary provider for most of everything else and they didn't want to run the other farms out. Their little village rested among a delicate balance between the four surrounding farms in order to flourish, so they did what they could to not impede.

Medō was preceded in birth by her two brothers, both of which were earth ponies, and followed by her sister whom she loves dearest and is almost impossible to get her away. Her two brothers, Suki Asai, and Kōjō Asai, were born identical twins, and spent a lot of the time helping father when he needed it in the fields, while her and her sister Gurimā usually stayed with her mother until Medō got older and started leaving the house more and more to gaze upon the flowers and the fields, finding and learning about what flowers that she could, and learning which ones were good to keep around, and which ones were important to avoid to not get sick. Her mother thought that her pursuit of this knowledge was foolishness and that such herbal gatherings and lessons were left for the Alchemist and the Apothecary for the village to handle, and that herbal experiments wasn't something that a filly should be concerning herself with, and this got her in trouble more times than not, and usually ended up getting Gurimā in trouble as well.

That was until one day when the Emperor of Long Guo came to their little village. Oh what a day that was! No Pony in Jikan was expecting the Emperor himself to show up, and he brought his two children as well! Everypony was so excited that they didn't realize that the two young had ran off into the dangerous surrounding forest*. Thankfully the village was able to find them and thanks to some help from Medō, they were able to escape the near fatal scare without any casualties. It was at this time that Medō earned her Cutie Mark, consisting of a variety of herbs settled onto an aloe blossum. It was at that point that Medō realized that her interest had been right all along and that her future was not to help run the farm, as she had hoped to some how coerce her into, but instead, use her talent to help other ponies by providing remedies to the ill when and where she could, and before too long, she became the apprentice under the local apothecary.

While she was in her apprenticeship, she learned of all the many new ways she could mix and extract different properties from the herbs that she had collecting so that they were both more potent, and quicker with achieving the desired affects, and many times she tried mixing a few herbs that probably shouldn't have been mixed. There was a few times she had made herself violently ill after testing one of her own remedies, and she learned two things on that day. Not all remedies are good remedies for a pony that is healthy, and not all mixtures are safe. While some of them help each other and speed the recovery process up, some of them actually work against each other and end up making  a poison itself that has to be remedied or let play out. Thankfully, none of her accidents have proved to be fatal as of yet.

Unfortunately though, her desire to learn more, and to help as many as she could got the better of her, and she ultimately decided to leave her home town of Jikan. The news came as a devastating blow to her family, especially her sister who came by the Apothecary every single day, just to spend what time she could with her sister. The hurt on her sister's face pained her greatyly when she made her decision, and she invited her sister to come with her, but she said that she would need time to think before she made any sore of decision. However time wasn't something that she had. She already had a grant to attend one of the universities in Canterlot in Equestria. She wasn't sure how she had acquired something as prestigious as a grant to a capital city of a foreign land, but she wasn't going to question it. She also made it a point to tell her sister and her mum that she would be coming back during the off time when the schools were not teaching for the semester, and that this was no way a permanent good bye.

With that, Medō left on the next ocean vessel to sail to the land of Equestria. She had only heard fables of this magical land. That this land was ruled by two sisters, and that almost the entire population were ponies, a far stretch from Ryushima or Long Guo that consisted largely of Qilin, Longmaa, and Dragons. She had heard that Equestria also had dragons, but from what she read they were a lot different than the dragons from Long Guo, and a lot more ruthless and mean, vs the wise and intellectual dragons that they were used to in Ryushima. It was all quite intriguing to Medō. So much so that she spent the entire five-day trip reading and researching the land that she was going to, and what she read made her, quite nervous. for what she was stepping into. Of course, off the ocean liner, and a train ride later, she was stepping hoof in Canterlot, ready to make new friends and learn about Canterlot herself from her own experiences and not from what an article read, and now attends Canterlot University.

Character Personality:

Medō can be summed up in pretty much one word, devoted. Once she puts her mind to something, nothing will stop her from seeing her ideas through. Sometimes this can make her seem a bit cold, and sometimes even thoughtless as she forgets about what's truly important from time to time. However, the one thing that she will never do though, is turn away from a pony that needs help. She will do everything to help somepony else even if it means giving them the last bit, or last piece of food, or last remedy that she has. She can't stand to see anypony suffering and will always do what she can to make sure things are made right, even at her own expense a lot of times.

Medō is also very, very loyal. She will stand behind her friends tooth and hoof and isn't afraid to get dirty for them even though she knows there's no way she could stand up to anypony in a fight with her somewhat fragile form. She will at least do her best to make sure no pony can hurt her friends, or at least stall until the real help arrives if she knows that she's fighting a losing battle.

That said, Medō is very easy to scorn, treat her or her friends wrongly, and she is quick to get a fiesty temper, and let her mouth run and get the better of her. She is quick to fire insult after insult to somepony who dares to treat her or anypony she cares about in a similar fashion and isn't one to let things blow over. She is a pony that is capable of holding a grudge for a very, very, very long time. And may Celestia have mercy on anypony that dares insult her family's honor.

Character Summary:

Medō is an outgoing, shamrock green mare from the Island of Ryushima. She is an herbalist and an apothecary by nature and her magic deals solely with her finding herbs that she needs for her remedies and medical salves. She values honor and family and is devoted to learning everything she can about the world she lives in and how to cure what ails ponies all over. She has a large family that she visits at least once every year before returning to Canterlot for classes at the university to further her apothecary knowledge.
