My point is, lots of the 4chan crowd are bronies, too. And they really don't fit you description.
Ponychan is pretty tame, though
If you ever want an impression how pony threads on 4chan look:
that's pretty accurate, although it's probably more funny then the real thing, because text to voice in hilarious.
