  1. The light from the lantern temporarily blinded her as it shined in her eyes. She immediately regretted giving it to him, a little. She put a hoof over her eyes to protect them from.the light. His reaction to her was disheartening, but not wholly unexpected. She was about to make her exit when he righted himself and thanks her. "You're welcome." She responded. She stifled a giggle at his frustration with directions "Did you need help, Mr...." She let the sentence trail to imply a question. "Here, lemme see your directions." she requested
  2. Myth stood in line, waiting patiently for whatever it was at the end of it. She didn't know what was going on, but with so many ponies lined up at Sweet Apple Acres, it had to be good, right? She was only in Ponyville to visit a friend, but he was busy, today, so she'd decided to explore a little, and found this here line. She passed by a sign and looked at it with interest. "Ooh, I wonder what that says." she thought to herself. Must be advertising whatever this line was for. Well, she was sure about to find out. She neared the end of the line, and got excited. She couldn't see what the signs said, but she could feel and kinda see the energy coming off the other ponies in the line. some were excited, some were nervous, and- she just noticed -most were stallions. "Hm. wonder why that is" she pondered casually before forgetting to think about it seconds later. She watched as ponies went in and came out with a bunch of apples. She wasn't sure if there was something special about these apples. They looked magically similar to any other apples she'd seen come out of here. We're they a special color? Ooh, just so many interesting questions in her head. She approached the booth when it was her turn, and her excitement mounted. "So, what is it?" She asked the pony at the booth. "What am I in line for?" She gave her a goofy smile that conveyed innocence and naivety.
  3. Rose yawned noisily, stretching the day's sleep away. Tonight was the night she'd decided she'd start exploring and mapping the Everfree Forest. She wanted ponies to want her services, and hopefully pay her for maps and a guide. It certainly wouldn't hurt if she also made friends while she was at it. She sighed. Nopony ever came to her new shop. In fact, she was sure nopony knew it was there. She never got to see anypony because they were all asleep all night. She'd go out in the day, but the sun is just so bright, she can't stand it very long. Anyway, she thought if she was able to map out the Everfree Forest, anypony who heard would be so impressed, they'd have to come visit. She took a mango slice out of the fridge, and held it in her mouth. It was a small breakfast, but it'd have to do. If she was getting any significant amount of mapping done, she'd need as much time as possible. She packed a couple more slices in her saddle bag along with the parchment and quills she always had with her, and headed out the door. At the edge of the forest, she paused. For some reason, tonight, she felt like was going to be a good night. As Rose flew through the forest, she looked around for any defining features she could find. Using her usual technique for mapping. She had thought about flying high above first, like she likes to do before getting a more detailed view near the ground, but with a forest this dense, she doubted she'd see much of use. After about an hour of flying, she decided she'd better record the few landmarks she'd found. Some little bodies of water --she gave each of them a temporary name, in case she found out a real name for them later--, some unique trees, and one particularly large tree with a face on it. She called this one the "Elderwood" because it reminded her of an oldenpony with the way its bark made lines in the face. As she drew on her parchment, she heard a noise. She quickly packed her things back into her saddlebag. "Oh, I hope that isn't one of those Timberwolves. I don't want to have to postpone my map." She quietly snuck in the direction of the noise, using her bat-like wings to help with her stealth. Slowly, she approached the face of a small cliff (which she made mental note of, of course), and flew down silently. She saw a pony at the bottom, rummaging through the dirt, obviously very nervous. She honestly didn't think anypony was out at this time of night. Let alone in the Everfree Forest. He seemed to be looking for the lamp which rested just a couple feet from his hooves. She figured she'd help him out, so she came down and picked up the lamp. "Here you go, sir. Is this what you're looking for?" she offered "I couldn't help but notice you were having a bit of trouble."
  4. //OMG! I'm so sorry! This whole time I was waiting for your response, I must've completely missed it lol// Flaire was just readying himself to divulge the secret when a loud filly busted into the room, nearly giving him a heart attack. He breathed once and smiled, as the filly excitedly "guess what'd" her sister. Referring to "The Crusaders". He guessed this must be some club she had with her friends. He thought nothing of it. After she'd apologized, and offered a hoof, he chuckled warmly "It's alright, Apple Bloom." He dismissed "You've got me interested, too, now." He was about to say something about the secret. Perhaps something to help her be motivated to keep it so he could tell, but it was at this moment, he realised something. "Hang on. 'Crusaders'?" He confirmed. He'd remembered Stage Lights mentioning a group of fillies who'd gained recognition for being the first group of ponies to get almost the same cutie marks at the same time, in the same thing, and the same place! "That wouldn't be the 'Cutie Mark Crusaders', would it?" He asked. He knew they lived in Ponyville, but he hadn't made the connection that one would be Applejack's sister. "You and your friends have a very special magical bond that if you ask me is only rivaled by the one your sister shares with her friends! It's something a lot of ponies are talking about. I'd venture to say that your role in Equestria is destined to only grow as time passes." He laughed "Listen to me. I sound like the director!" He sat smiling a moment, before he jumped back into the moment, talking to Applejack "Oh, yeah. The surprise. The director, Stage Lights, wanted to surprise the ponies of Ponyville, and most of all the Princess of Friendship and her friends with a play he wrote. It's entitled 'The Quest for Friendship'. It's a reenactment of the events that led up to the appearance of the Castle of Friendship. With some artistic licence."
  5. btw, can I have a link to the discord channel you mentioned? I should prolly be on it
  6. it's okay, I think we can just assume any skill that's not mentioned on a sheet is average, and people can just come up with their skills. Like so. (Wk/BA/Av/AA/St) Perception: AA Lock picking: St Swimming: Wk Directions: BA Special talent: Stealth We could use a balance system where for every AA or St skill must be balanced with a BA or Wk one, respectively. Or use points system, if that makes more sense. Wk: -2pts BA: -1pt AA: 1pt St: 2pts and you start with like 4 points or smth. Idk.
  7. For the ability scores, we can have Stat=Weak/bellow avg/avg/above avg/strong We don't need to have the same stats as D&D, necessarily, if you think we could use less/more stats, we can change them. Then we'd have skills that can come from the D&D skills list if you're familiar with it, or you could make up your own skills that make sense to you (this is per player) and just use your skill whenever it makes sense. As long as everyone is reasonable, I don't see a need to be too strict with a skill list. We can rank the skills from 1-5 same as the ability scores. Magic can be a skill, same as flying and speech. Since this is MLP related, we'd also have a talent. You get bonuses when you do anything related to your talent. It's usually a success when it's directly related. Starting equipment may be whatever you feel is reasonable for your character to have. (I just realised that not only is this not as haphazard as O&O, it's more so lol but it's fine) I'm thinking for races, we'll just use the playable races from the WoE rules.
  8. and part of the discussion should also be how we'd like the character sheets to look. Cause it'll make things easier to keep track of, I think, if we have character sheets.
  9. Either way. and it's like to just trust that postponed would themselves be reasonable and decide if their character is able to do a thing and be like "they try, but they fall" or the like. idk Maybe it should be the GM who decides. That's what this thread is mainly for, tho. For us to discuss how this'll go. I don't really have a very solid idea of how an rpg can work on a forum, so input is 100% appreciated. Also, I don't really know where the rp should go, but the discussion is supposed to go here, right? As for whether it's OCs playing O&O or us directly playing the characters, whatever works best for everybody. They both sound great to me.
  10. Anypony want to enter the world of Ogres and Oubliettes? (D&D/Pathfinder-esque type rp with ponies) Anyone who's interested go ahead and join the discussion here. We're going to discuss what we want out of this rp and come up with a structure for how it'll be done. Once we've collectively decided we know what we're doing, we'll move forward, and I'll make a thread for the rp. I don't intend for it to be as structured as D&D/Pathfinder, but not quite as haphazard as O&O in the show, either.
  11. I have a lot of characters who aren't getting use.

If anyone wants to rp with somepony, let me know!

Specifically, I'm excited to play my Bat Pony. Check out my rp log, and PM me if you're interested in playing with somepony. ^v^

  12. Flaire smiled when Granny responded to his praise with her self confidence and pride. He enjoyed seeing when a pony was sure of themselves enough to accept compliments so well as she did, but not so sure they go around boasting to anypony who'll listen. Also, she just had that certain grandma charm that generally made her a treat to be around. "Thank you very much, Ms. Smith." He offered as she doled out his helping. After AJ had begun eating hers, he decided it was then appropriate to eat, himself. He took a bite of the pie, and smiled. Now this is what he called home cooking. He didn't get a lot of food prepared with this much care out on the road. It was exquisite. He loved seeing the way the Apples interacted with each other and with their guest. He was learning a lot about his character, but more than that, he was gaining an appreciation for how she lives and who she is. He was really starting to like her more and more the more he got to see her family. He knew some of the things about her that were well known throughout Equestria as a "friend of Princess Twilight", but he got to learn about her as Applejack, and he was really grateful for that. He saw the pride and accomplishment in both Applejack, and her brother at his praise of their apples. He loved to see that, and it made him happy to know he'd said something that filled them with such pride for their hard work. He felt everypony should feel pride like that in a job well done. She'd asked him about the play, and Flaire hesitated for a short moment. He thought about just answering the question, but something told him he should ask his question. He breathed a sigh and said "About that. I actually wanted to ask you something about it." He thought how to word it and continued "Stage Lights, our director, wanted to make the play a surprise for you and your friends, so he's asked me to keep the subject a secret." He started "But he gave me permission to tell you, because he felt you might be the best at keeping a secret for a couple days. So I wanted to know. Are you ok knowing ahead of time, or would you rather I not tell you?" His excitement was hard to hide as he waited on her response.
  13. "Well, good afternoon!" Flaire introduced, bowing slightly at the stallion."My name is Dramatic Flaire. It's nice to meet you." He smiled. He was sure the family wasn't really much for formalities, but honestly, he couldn't much help himself. It was pretty second nature to him, and he'd feel less comfortable trying to "turn it off". "Hello, again, Applejack. Thank you for lending it. I don't know how I would've gotten the apples across town without it." he chuckled politely "I couldn't very well reject an invitation to dinner, could I? Wouldn't want to, anyway. I'm happy to be here." He sat in the indicated chair, and addressed Granny Smith "I'm fairly excited to get a taste of your cooking. It smells fantastic!" "Oh, we love the apples! I especially love the Honey Crisps, just as delicious as their name implies!" Flaire laughed a little "We may need to get more Golden Delicious before the week's out. Thunderhoof ate almost half the bag this morning! I'm guessing he was not dissapointed." He winked He thought for a moment and said "I'm guessing there's a lot of work that goes into making the apples so good. Anypony can just have an apple tree, but only Sweet Apple Acres apples taste as good as yours." Flaire kind of wanted to just spoil the surprise, anyway, so he could just mine her for information, and maybe practice his accent. but he figured she'd prefer to be surprised. Stage had told him that if he thought Applejack wouldn't mind it being spoiled, he figured she'd be best suited to keeping the secret for the others, so if it would help Flaire's method acting, he had the go-ahead to use his own judgement.
  14. Thankies. I'm glad you liked it. ^v^
  15. Any adjustments you want, you let me know, and I can fix it lickity split. (edit: I hope it's okay I added that stripe in her tail. It just didn't sit right with me without it. Tho I can remove it faster than you can say "Hey! I don't like that stripe!" o3o)
  16. You can't say that anymore.
  17. I'm sorry, sweetie, but I have bad news for you....
  18. *facehoof* It took me until now to realize you hyperlinked her name. /)_- I'm so smart. Disregard my previous question. lol
  19. Oh, lol. I forgot to ask what color her eyes are.
  20. Oh, that high res CM is exactly what I needed. Thank you. Tho, if it's alright with you, I want to make the shapes just a little less uniform. Like they are in the first drawing. Gives the cutie mark more character. but it'll be more of a compromise, somewhere between the two. The other information was helpful, too.
  21. @Bellosh I read your thread. That was great. For the most part, I would agree completely. Only I would expound on the mysterious nature of Magic. Its true that the vast majority of creatures find magic to be mystical and inexplicable, but a creature who dedicates their life to understanding it could conceivably learn a great deal. also, it's just fun to pedantically speculate as to all the intricate inner workings of magic known or otherwise. o3o
  22. No, that was sufficiently gathered thought. I understood. I'm not speculating on what the writers intended, since they likely just thought "it's magic. it just works" or sommat. I'm trying to theorize how it _could_ work. Things that make sense too me, and can be used to enhance rp when it comes to magic, and to keep the enhancement consistent. As far as magic being "like chemistry", I am 100% with you, there. If you have any time, you should read what little ice written in the "Unofficial Lore" thread I made entitled "The Basic Theory of Magic" It's a work a work in progress, and I haven't updated it in a while, but there are some ideas I put into it.
  23. I just have a few questions about her. What's her talent? What does she do aside from her talent? Quirks? Personality traits? It might not all end up being relevant, but some of it might. o3o Edit: also do you have a higher resolution image of her cutie mark?
  24. ooh! I like her! I'll see when I can find a little time and I'll let you know when I've done her. ^v^
  25. Fine. I guess I'll start. I have my own unofficial Lore thread about this subject, but I can expound with how I think magic propagates, and what it takes to make it tick. (please excuse my "stream-of-consciousness" style writing. this is what it's like to live in my brain o3o) If you want to cast spells, it's more like flexing a muscle. You need only do it. You don't have to know why it works, or how the muscle cells do what they do, you just do it. (edit: I was going somewhere with this, but my train of thought derailed.... I'll get back to it) The magic is, as Starlight has pointed out, tired to your emotions. It's telepathically controlled and as such can sometimes be done subconsciously. Tho it doesn't happen often. Mostly it requires conscious thought and intention, but especially with powerful unicorns, it can sometimes happen without meaning to. For instance, when Twilight had the magic of all the alicorn princesses, at one point, she accidentally levitated books across the room. Seems small, but the implication is not small. With how much magic she had, she had a hard time keeping it from doing things without her say so. it could be she was thinking about looking through her books for something to help her, and her magic was just like "books. can do." Does this mean the magic had a mind of its own that was just amplified by there being so much of it? this would stand to reason given how the tree of harmony evolved. It seems powerful magic can just manifest itself into a mind. It could be conceivable, then, for some powerful unicorn(s)/alicorn(s) to just use raw magic to host straight up create a being of ultimate power with a mind of its own. Maybe this is how discord was made. Or maybe it happened similarly to the creation of planets. that is, chaos magic exists spread out and insignificant. chaos magic attracts chaos magic. It congeals into more and more concentrated and powerful chaos magic. The magic gets powerful enough to begin forming a mind. after forming a mind, it begins to concentrate to the point that it gains a form. viola. discord. (here we are back to that train of thought) So casting spells is normally like flexing a muscle, right? but if you study magic enough, and know how it works, you can make magic machinery. gizmos that either use magic as fuel (which are relatively simple) to do largely mechanical tasks, or contraptions that can take an input magic, alter it into something and use it to augment magical artifacts. That's much more complex. Examples of this would be The Flim Flam Brothers' Super Speedy Cider Squeezey 6000. The brothers simply shoot magic into it, and their magic fuels the machine. It would also appear that there's a built in spell that analyses the Apples to be sure they're good before squeezing them, so just slightly more complex than just "magic fueled machinery". and then there's Twilight's machine in Equestria Girls that pulls the magic out of one magical artifact (the book) and puts it into another (the portal) to make it function when she wants it to. It takes the magic that transfers writing and uses it to augment the portal which transfers matter. This level of magical engineering would likely be about equivalent to making a precisely machined mechanical watch by hand without any reference material. Pretty nuts imo. Anywho, I'm done, for now. Lemme know if you're interested to hear me ramble on some more about magic theory. o3o (also, I'm not 100% sure I'm using this section properly, so if an admin sees this and I'm not.... please let me know)
