  1. I got a lot more reading done today than I might have otherwise...
  2. I am absolutely not advocating ignoring the pony and hoping the problem will go away. There is either a good reason for this embargo, or there isn't. I can think of good reasons, though they seem unlikely. If there isn't a good reason, then there are some deeper issues that need to be hashed out here. Possibly with a professional. Buying the toy in either situation is putting short term pleasure over a long term relationship.
  3. two double posts in 30 minutes? time to sign off I guess.
  4. It seems strange, and I will not claim to understand what is going on here but... It isn't nonsense to the wife, and treating it as such wouldn't help the issue.
  5. A few hours ago I was on the final level of Portal II running around like a chicken with my head cut off avoiding the bombs when the person beside me gave away the secret! Of all the worst possible things that could happen, this is. THE. WORST. POSSIBLE. THING!
  6. Sure, but expressly rebelling against the wishes of your spouse doesn't sound harmless to me.
  7. I started preschool right before I turned 5, Kindergarden right before 6, 1st grade right before 7, ... 9th grade right before 15, First year in university right before I turned 19
  8. Freshmen are in the first year of something. It typically applies to the first year in high school (usually 9th grade) and the first year in university. Sophomores are similarly the second year in something.
  9. And it really is a shame, Queen is one of the best bands ever. What would Freddie Mercury think about his work being compared to My Little Pony?
  10. "Life Expectancy" by Dean Koontz is the best book I have ever read. About evil clowns. Just thought I would put that out there. While I cannot imagine MLP gaining the following that Queen had, I will not speculate on how long MLP will last. However, there is a difference between surviving and having a healthy following. Do you really want a vampire fanbase? By which I mean you can see it, interact with it, but there are no signs of life and it sucks your soul dry. If the only new material for 50 years is fan created, I could see that happening.
  11. I went through an "awesome" phase, until I was using it often for things that were not particularly awe inspiring. I try not to use it unless I am suitably amazed. Through persistent and deliberate training, I have changed it to "good". It has however escaped the "awesome" slot and is now used by me in place of other phrases and words like "ok" "will do" I've caught myself using it 4-5 times in a 10 minute time slot, but I am ok with that because it is better than flinging "awesome" around all willy-nilly.
  12. It comes from "relationSHIP". I recall being annoyed by it on other sites for other TV shows, but I did my best to just ignore them. I'm not annoyed by MLP shipping as much as I am...disappointed by it. Exactly. It is such a huge focus of MLP, and important to boot. And yet that isn't enough for some people? It makes me wonder what it is about our culture that makes people unsatisfied by friendships? Why do people necessarily feel that something is incomplete and feel compelled to "fix" it?
  13. IT WAS YOU! I was wondering what it didn't add up! In retrospect I should have had only a single poll with 7 episodes missing and an "other" option. I bet I could have picked out some appropriately mediocre options
  14. Welcome. I presume that the frazzled Twilight avatar is from an early part of lesson zero? I did think that episode was something special. It was a nice transition from TS learning everything to everyone can have a relationship with Celestia.
  15. Welcome. I called a vendor in Canada today. It was memorable because it took a second to translate "FDAA" to "food and drug administration eh?" in my head.
  16. Ah, that explains my confusion. The go to last unread post button didn't work very well. Also, muffins. I can eat nothing but a muffin for breakfast guilt free and it will sustain me until lunch.
  17. For a while, I thought "ack" for "acknowledged" was about to catch on. It would have given you a three letter way to confirm without needing to say anything else. You will notice that this usage has a presence on urban dictionary, but most of the time that I tried it, confusion was created and the efficiency was lost.
  18. Emphasis is mine. Upon further reflection, I find the sentence wonderful. You could have straight up asked for new years resolutions. But my understanding is that those don't tend to go very well, if they even make it out of the month of January. Two things cool about your post: Firstly, it is asking for pre-existing projects or plans, rather than starting something new. That seems way more likely to succeed, since you start out invested in it. Secondly, the requirement of a quantifiable way to track progress decreases the chance of frustration and forces the person to clarify the goal, and the more specific the goal, the more likely you are to complete it. Up until just now, I didn't realize that you had forced me into the realization that I only had 12 months left for my saving project. Though I had been thinking about it, and making arrangements for over a year, I am suddenly cognizant of the amount per month that I likely need to save in order to make this a reality.
  19. I'd like my serious curling team to win the league. We have come in 2nd twice in a row, and lost this time by the skin of our teeth. The top two teams were 7-2, but they beat us in the tie breaker calculation. This would be really cool because we always give our opponents the advantage on the first end (because we like the color yellow), and we have a handicapped player. Also, I want to save enough money by next December to leave work for 3 months on an adventure.
  20. I am spiritual person. To say that I believe spiritual forces, both good and evil, exist and effect us, is unfortunately distracting. I focus instead on my relationships with God, and with others. Logic and emotion are both important and though it is not always possible to reconcile them, trying to do so is a valuable experience. There is not something wrong with you. Keep searching!
  21. Welcome! And congrats on accidentally stumbling onto the best pony! I hope you enjoy the show and the forum as you explore further.
  22. I would be amused if we saw her in the Waldo hat and shirt...
  23. Tenth, I agree with you about not worrying. To add something to your analogy, awareness of and preparation for the end are valuable in both situations. They make the transition easier and the time beforehand more meaningful.
  24. The poll we have for this is HERE. But it is defective because muffins aren't winning anymore.
  25. Yes the fanbase is enjoyable, but I caught up to the most recent episode before I purposefully sought out the community. I plan to follow the series to the end with or without the other fans. The exception is if the series loses its appeal of course, but according to my iTunes ratings, season 2 is on track to outperform season 1 in my ratings. It is actually a complicated formula, because one great episode and two bad ones is preferable to three average ones.
