  1. I really hope that Aloysius was really just a one-off non-related reference to Brideshead Revisited. I am betting the name was chosen simply for the pun factor, though. Those ponies and their puns.
  2. What I wanna know from everyone is: do you co-workers know about your My Little Pony obsession? Mine do. it's hard not to when there's a pony staring you down. There is quite the assortment of toys on my desk ranging from a Bob's Big Boy Bank to The Mighty Boosh with some Thundercats and She-ra in bwtween. Nobody bats an eye, which is a little hilarious because I work for a major corporation.
  3. There were the big brothers in G1. They weren't main characters, though. http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s59/schizoauthoress/MLP%20Screencaps/Somnambula/bigbrothers-4speedquarterbacksalty.png And there was exactly one brown pony (T.J., Megan's normal pony that she abandoned to go frolic with the rainbow-hairs) and one grey pony (snuzzle, but she had pink hair so that barely counts) in the old series. Also, this chart (not sure who made it) lists all the connections to the various series for the main cast: Full size:http://www.determinismsucks.net/archive/My_Little_pony_Friendship_in_Magic_History-(n1290573491968).jpg
  4. I am not sure...I think Scootaloo is from G3.5, which I did not watch. I've seen G1, G2, G3, and G4. G3.5 is the "baby big head" era, while G3.....Well, I think they tried to go back to the roots of MLP, or something. Whatever happened, it wasn't all that great. I mean, it wasn't terrible...but it was totally made for kids. Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle are from G3 even. Then G3.5. personally I think the cutie mark crusaders are going to get their marks at the finale, and then fade into the background. Hasbro's got toys to sell: I'm just pissed that there will be two releases of Sweetie Belle, one of Scootaloo, and NONE of Apple Bloom (unless the prototype is wrong...but I am betting the packaging is). in the coming months. But there are no cutie marks on the new releases either:
  5. Ferrets!!!! I love ferrets I can't have them anymore because my cats had them around when they were kittens and grew up to torment them (not hurt, just harass) Welcome!
  6. I'm an old pre-Friendship is Magic collector too, but going WAY back to the mid 90's! we can dork out over each other's collections!
  7. \I believe the answer that makes you pass the sanity test is that they are horrible! I had to look up Sight. I've read about that Warriors series on TV Tropes. Good Stuff?
  8. Let's hear the most cringe-worthy thing that gives you joy in these categories: Books: Music: TV: Movies: For me books would have to be Sweet Valley High. I know how stupid they are. But they're so damn funny. music: why is Def Leppard so hilarious and awesome? And Van Halen? tv: I like bad action made for TV mini-series. Like Atomic Train. movies: CABIN BOY
  9. You asked for it -_- 1: If you were 6 RIGHT NOW (with all your right now taste preferences, combined with things to appeal to this inner 6-year old), what breakfast cereal would you be eating, and what TV show would you be watching on Saturday morning? 2: If you could pull one character out of any book to be your best friend for a day, who would it be and why? 3: How do you feel about overwrought Stephen King miniseries?
  10. Hi! That's all there is about you? Come on! DISH -_-
  11. That's only because they already went through their Dork Age. -_- Dear God mid-80's Rush *shudder*. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BAvEiLpboqk I mean, look at Geddy's blazer! Too much Miami VIce for him! Here's some very early seeds of metal for you: Blue Cheer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tapfbMD4nyM Euclid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=csQc5GcD ... re=related Anyway, I digress. Welcome!
  12. Removed. She is pretty much a lurker.
  13. [blushroom - Earth Pony] Name: Blushroom Gender: Female Age:Very young mare. Only recently got her cutie mark. Species: Earth Pony Pelt Color: Pale buttery orange Mane/Tail Color & Style: Alternating colors of a rusty brown, bright orange, white and a tarnished brassy color. slightly wavy, and often matted with twigs and sticks Eye Color: Terracotta Cutie Mark: 5 stylized red mushrooms with white spots. Physique: medium build, tending towards chunky in the fall when the nuts fall off the trees. Residence: A hollow, yet spacious tree just outside of Ponyville on what used to be a farm bordering the Everfree Forest. Occupation: Wild Food Harvester Motivation: To make the ponies of ponyville understand that not everything needs to be tended to 100% of the time, and to make a perfect wild-mushroom based dish. Likes: Autumn, the crunch of leaves, savory foods, the running of the leaves, and deep in her heart, frilly dresses. Dislikes: ponies afraid of the forest, that she is ashamed of her circumstances, meeting new pony folk, cupcakes (too sweet for her liking! She only had them once) Character Summary:Decades of mismanagement of the family farm just outside of Ponyville has left it a dustbowl. Her ancestors were originally potato farmers (ponies have to get their chips somewhere) during the very foundations of Ponyville. and were for a time a VERY prosperous farm. Alas, Blushroom's great -great grandparents pushed their children into taking up the family business despite their cutie marks being the exact opposite of potato-related, and those great-grandparents made their children take over. By then the land was already pretty useless for growing anything but mushrooms, and the barns were in such disrepair that they just fell down, so Blushroom's Grandfather Morel tried to capitalize on the few pockets where mushrooms and some wild herbs clung to the last bits of viable soil. Morel met and married Bolette, a pony with a similar love of mushrooms, from Canterlot. Together they had a modest trade in Ponyville, and had one daughter.. When Blushroom's mother Chanterelle, a vain, silly, and irresponsible mare, was old enough she ran off to Manehattan, eloped and returned with a tiny filly that she left in care of her parents. Soon afterwards, Chanterelle disappeared with her husband never to be seen again. Blushroom doesn't know much about her parents, but it is rumored that they are still in Manehattan together, trying to keep a hold of their youth. Lots of flank lifts and botox. Despite these bleak surroundings, and somewhat of a tragic start, Blushroom's childhood was VERY happy with her grandparents (better than it would have been with her train wreck of a mother). Blushroom was such an imaginative filly, pretending stumps were castles and building little towns for the fairies that she imagined in the woods. There was a lot of love in the tree house on the farm, but there was not an exceptional deal of socializing with ponies her own age. When she was finally old enough to go to school, a lot of the other ponies just found her weird for her lack of social skills. It didn't help that it took her until nearly adult-hood to get a cutie mark! She was never invited for sleepovers or parties, so just increasingly found friends in the trees, plants, and yes, mushrooms of the Everfree Forest. At first she stuck to the outskirts, within sight of the trees house and the tumbled down barns. But as she got older, she got braver and went deeper into it and discovered all kids of wonderful edible things that just GREW! Her love of the forest all came to a head last summer when the Pegasus ponies of Ponyville neglected to have schedules rainstorms on the farm made it even dustier, and no mushrooms grew. No mushrooms meant no money, and since you can't live on mushrooms alone, no food. Faced with starvation, Blushroom scoured the forest looking for edible items that grew wild to help feed her family. She discovered that not only were some wild foods better than what she was accustomed to from the Ponyville grocery store, but that there were all kinds of plants and fungi that couldn't be cultivated easily that she could find in the forest! Blushroom realized that she had a special knack for distinguishing edible and delicious mushrooms from the poisonous ones, and her five-mushroom cutie mark appeared on her flank. Her talent saved her family that summer, and in the following months she dedicated her time to making gourmet forest-found meals. Her quest for ingredients for the perfect mushroom bisque IS pulling her out of her shell a tiny little bit. She often dreams of opening a restaurant in Ponyville to showcase her savory creations when she grows up, but at the same time is terrified of the attention it would being her. Blushroom is quite a happy pony, content just sitting in a sunbeam, or exploring the forest. But that damned insecurity and fear of rejection is keeping her from having any kind of a social life. She often admires the "mane" cast from afar, and particularly likes to gaze in the Carousel Boutique shop's windows. She tries to replicate many of Rarity's designs in natural materials like bark, moss and flowers (much to her OWN chagrin, she is a little afraid of becoming just like her silly mother). She's too afraid to try to be friends with them, or anyone, because she is painfully shy and afraid that the ponies will laugh at her for living in a tree on a dust farm, with her mane always looking like a horror from being in the woods. She is not totally a hermit, though; she does from time to time purchase manure from Applejack's farm to help the local mushrooms grow better, but usually waits until only Granny Smith is around. She's afraid of Applejack's forthrightness (but admires her nonetheless, from afar), but even MORE afraid of Big Macintosh, who she thinks is dreamy (from afar). She has a half-wild pig friend named Snout (the descendant of a pig from the farm when it was prosperous) who lives in the Everfree Forest and helps her find truffles, but Snout is not her constant companion. She also, rather shyly joins in on the Running of the Leaves once a year, but always stays to the back and hopes that nobody notices. She loves Autumn most of all because she can blend in. She definitely needs to learn that most of this rejection is all in her head and that if she makes true friends they will like her despite what she assumes is a major lifestyle flaw.
  14. I understand this one. I lived in West Virginia and watched places, well, become ****ing Wal-Marts. Lovely plots of land, farms, entire valleys. Or become gas mines. or strip-mines. It freaking sucks. And it pisses me off more that a lot of the people that DO have the land are more content to buy their produce at those ****ing Wal-Marts than to even plant a garden. Don't want to get their hands dirty, or put in hard work, I guess (but good for you guys for keeping up a farm!!!). As a country we've ruined our agricultural infrastructure, and it is going to bite us in the ass very VERY soon. Because when the apocalypse comes (this is only somewhat tongue in cheek) unless you know how to grow your own food you're completely screwed. The Amish will probably be the last men standing.
  15. It might vary. I know it does on the old ones.
  16. Sometimes peopl wonder why I sing aloud only sections of Rolling Stones songs. Little do they know it is actually the Hot Rocks Polka off of UHF. Every time I am in a library, I picture the "Conan the Librarian" bit.
  17. There's also the ponies and pretty pals in addition to those guys. http://www.kimsites.net/dreamvalley/7th_edition_ponies2.html#baby_ponies_and_pretty_pals I have creamcicle, leafy and possibly kingsley. I used to have kingsley, at least. And this custom (who used to be a creamcicle):
  18. I read that "end of creator-driven animation" article on Cartoon Brew in October, then spent a morning researching it, and decided to check it out. I was pleased with the first 2 episodes, but then didn't keep up. I've only recently had time to get obsessed.
  19. No, I totally hid from the world. Didn't even make it because it was POURING in Salem.
  20. Restoredoll tends to use saran, which isn't as flexible for making super curls. It's also a little thicker and heavier. It's much better if you want stick straight styles. Nylon is what the ponies actually use, and if you want a little bit more control, Dollyhair has an awesome selection. They use the same manufacturer as Hasbro, so the colors are dead on. And if you need any advice regarding Dollyhair's colors, you can totally PM me. I am well-versed in their selection due to at least 6 years of customizing/fixing Ponies and 3 years of Blythes, and I am good at coming up with mixes of hair that exactly match other colors (many years of color theory and working with CMYK screenprinting). I am only really good at this mostly because I break/ruin **** all the time and need to fix it. These are the Dollyhair colors. I can go in and add Restoredoll's approximations in another color later. Here are what is likely the best marches for the main cast ponies' hair. I matched them to older ponies, and sample I have here. Rainbow Dash: the red, I am going to hazard a guess POMME D' AMOUR, since it is a new color, and none of the older ponies had Dash's red, Lemon Drop, Nectarine (again, a guess. I will have to get samples), lucky clover (confirmed), Water Nixie or Atomic Turquoise (I have to find Firefly or Majesty to confirm) Pinkie Pie: Heart Throb Rarity: Sour Grapes (the darker) Sugarplum (lighter) A better match for the show: Reroot the OUTER row of hair with a mixture of Sour Grapes and Hematite and the INNER band with straight up Sour Grapes (or maybe Ultraviolet) Twilight Sparkle: Actual: Sour Grapes, Heart Throb Better match for the show: Hematite as the main blue (definitely NOT Forget Me Not. It is way too medium of a blue, and it's super clash-y with the toy's plastic color), the purple streak would be Sugarplum and the pink would be Heart Throb. Fluttershy: Actual: Candytuft Better match for the show: Pussycat (warning, Pussycat might fade over time, it did in the old ponies. Just keep her out of direct sunlight for long periods of time). You could get away with Kitten (matte) or Tea Rose, but Pussycat is what the source pony, Posey had. Applejack: Lemonade. Also, any of these places will send you a tiny sample if you are unsure. Generally for free. Just ask! I would also recommend: getting several of these rehairing tools: https://custompo.startlogic.com/store/c ... p?cPath=30 You WILL break them. So better to get several. And don't try to make your own by cutting needles. I have NO idea what super strong needles she uses to make these, but I tried and failed at least 20 times. A size 12 or 14 crochet hook (you can loop your hair inside and secure it that way. You can find these at any craft store. Fabric glue "liquid stitch" in case you do a knot method and want to secure your knots. It's safer and less reactive than a lot of other glues. Not attempting mohair until you have the basics of doll re-rooting down. Mohair, while gorgeous is much harder to work with.
  21. Oh, well there you go. I don't know that I'd use it in my hair though. On, no, it's totally safe to use on human hair. It's actually what people used to use pre-clarifying shampoos. It reeks, but works really well to pull everything out of your hair that's not hair. Here's a good recipe. If you have curly hair you can take it one step further and also use diluted honey afterwards. My mom has super super curly hair, but I didn't know until she started doing this (for like 20 years, even). And her hair generally looks great now (before it was totally Roseanne Rosannadanna). Here's a good recipe (that is also safe for ponies, and the environment) http://www.lifelessplastic.blogspot.com/2008/01/vinegar-rinse-is-awesome.html Sorry for the derail. Rarity would be proud of me
