Better than hunting wabbits?

I'm planning to write an original story based on ideas and inspiration gleaned from MLP:FiM. I hope that it's original enough. Please check out the starter snippet I posted here: http://www.canterlot.com/blog/206/entry-1675-a-begining/ I need to decide if this is worth pursuing.

I have never had a (human) friend as good and true as the black labs I've had. As far as I'm concerned: Best. Dogs. Ever!

Being part of Canterlot, and the fandom in general, is great, but it's still nice to have someone I actually know and see offline I can geek out with.

So I was all set to say that Leer-ah was how I say it because that has been the case based on how I've heard lyre pronounced. So a good friend from the SCA replied to my "Oh, I know how to call a chicken!" FB post with a pony reference. His daughter watches the show and he's been along for the ride, but he said he's not a brony yet. However today he changed his profile pic to a pony and has been posting Equestrian "propaganda" posters in response to the political BS that's been eating Facebook. So suddenly I'm not feeling so alone.

So I see season 1 is out on DVD (SQUEEEEEEE!!!!! ) and I decide to hit the "brony" search tag on Amazon and see what all comes up. A lot. The answer is a lot of things pop up. I've idly wondered if the brony merch at say Hot Topic or some of these online t-shirt shops are licensed before. But I saw "Poniworld" Kindle books and other such things. I didn't see any using show characters and didn't really read the synopsis of any of them, but the cover art was obviously modeled on the style of the show. And it was ponies with elaborate multi-colored emblems on their flanks. I was just wondering if anyone knew of any cases of this type of stuff getting hammered by Hasbro or knows enough about IP rights to know if the small terminology changes being made were enough to be clear.

Far and away my most favoritest OC ponies are from the "Gathering the Elements" Series by Nimaru on DA. Winter Willow and Rose Petal (and much love for Luau) are awesome. The entire thing is great. I'm clawing my way to that moment still. I have some goals that I will achieve, and when I do that will be my greatest moment. All on board with the novel publication, Lux.

I've not heard of one either. If somepony can come up with one that would be great. Maybe this thread would be a good place for those of us that are willing to share our rough location and see if we happen to have anypony close on here. ie: I'm from south-central Illinois.

The muse has been bashing my head in with the urge to write, but not providing inspiration to do so. It also takes enormous emotional energy to pour into the work and I just don't have that right now. *sigh* I wish I could draw.

I made a post last night while quite tired and feeling a bit morose. Woke up this morning feeling a bit better and realized I just sounded like I was whining.

Lesson learned: Don't do a blog post when you are very tired and feeling crappy or you'll feel like an idiot and delete it in the morning.

The candy cane math and the cow image both square fairly well in comparison to how they compare to things like apples and eggs shown in the show. Sounds right to me.

On second thought, finding out that Rainbow Dash's sonic rainboom was what was threatening to destroy the crystal ponies was the big jaw dropper.

I went out on a mission and we drove the hour and change to the nearest town of consequence. I hit Toys 'R Us, Target, Meijer, Hot Topic.... All with no luck at finding anything good. Hot Topic has a "Yay!" shirt my wife would have gotten if the 2XL didn't look like it was sized for a small child's toy, not a person. The sizing there is bad. No pony goods other than 2 shirts. I was disappoint. Saw some clever store brand knock-offs by the score. "Royal Ponies" and "Pony Princesses" high on the oh God list. EDIT: Since I was the last post I decided to do an edit instead of double post. Went to our local Wal-Mart today and FOUND POSTERS!!!!! Got a couple, there were stacks of them. They are still sadly not keeping up with demand on the cards. I wonder if anypony would like to do card swaps. ???

And did anypony really think the CMC's rocket wouldn't result in a fire?

I think that for us older fans a longer story arc and deeper development would be great, but considering the true target audience I think that just touching on these things is all that they need to do. Yes "Party of One" was a short term problem that was solved in a matter of hours. We can extrapolate and see that as a sign of deeper issues Pinkie may need to deal with at some point. Headcanon has told the fandom that she probably has real problems to work through, but the target demo probably isn't ready for an in depth exploration of depression and disassociation problems. Besides, there are a lot of shows that deal heavily with all the bad things people are saddled with. I like having a show I can watch where things don't get too deep.

I'm debating taking a crack at the RP thing. I've played tabletop RP games for over 20 years, but currently don't have a group. Tried a few online fantasy RPs using chat rooms with built in number generators too. But this seems like a slightly different ballgame. I'm not sure my skillset will carry over well. Too many questions! Also debating posting the first chunks of a new story brewing in my mind here for feedback. I want to do an original world based on MLP:FiM, but distinct enough to not run afoul of copyright/TM issues. I seem to recall that we are allowed to start multiple blogs. I wonder if that would serve well.

I grew up on a farm so I completely get it. Small barn stalls aren't much better.

Got this stuck in my head today... *sigh* It's cute and helps with the toska though. Once I get some projects out of the way and have a clear slate to work on things *I* want to do I think I am going to forge Rainbow Dash's cutie mark out of steel. Trying to decide if it will be worth doing simply for the moment/photo-op of pulling the finished thing glowing from the forge and dropping it on a board to catch the picture of the wood erupting in flames when it hits.

Just feeling very "What's the point?" lately. Some days it just feels like all everything amounts to is a dreary slog through each day.
