  1. It just occurred to me while watching the season 3 premiere again that one reason I might like Sombra so much is that back when I played with the G1 toys I liked to imagine the ponies having to go up against a vast dark overlord that was enslaving ponies until only a few remained to fight back. They made one of my childhood dreams come true!
  2. If it doesn't turn out to be true then at least it makes great fan-fiction fodder. I wouldn't writing that at all.
  3. It's no coincidence; the word sombrero evolved out of the word sombra because a hat provides a useful shadow to keep the wearer cool.
  4. Celestia's magic just makes a new window, I suppose. I like the idea that there are potentially an infinite number of windows so that all major historical events will be immortalized.
  5. I'm sorry I didn't notice this request until now. I have a scanner so I can try doing this sometime.
  6. It might be like the Adventure Time comic where it officially follows several seasons up to a point then makes its own canon. In this case the comic might take place after season 2 ended and ignore season 3 to allow more freedom in storytelling. I hope not, but I admit it would allow for a very flexible format.
  7. That's certainly true, although looking at his animation roles de Lancie tends to stay with a single character. Still, I'm not even sure if it's true that he recorded more.
  8. That would be so hilariously cruel. Yes, I got hints that this season might have more of a story arc, mostly from brief lines from Celestia and Luna. I'm quite excited to see how it will play out.
  9. Reportedly, John de Lancie claimed to have done more recording for the program, which if true must mean Discord is coming back in some manner.
  10. I have the impression that the writers wanted to try a villain that wasn't grand and hammy like Nightmare, Discord, and Chrysalis. The traps he had set up tells me that Sombra was a very cunning, organized type, which leads me to like him quite a bit. He reminds me of the Lich from Adventure Time, being a powerful villain of few words, a lot of savvy, and very little to go by in personality. Yet it seems like the Lich was immediately popular with fans while Sombra isn't, though that might be tied into their appearances. Sombra is a murky, armored Unicorn. The Lich is a horned rotting human (?) corpse in a cloak with unpleasantly exposed gums and teeth.
  11. Thank you very much, Phil! I really feel motivated for this now. I hope I can make longer chapters in the future.
  12. I am so very looking forward to this. Anything to help fuel more inspiration for this setting.
  13. Posted on FIMFiction, my new story The Magic and the Night. Princess Celestia has invited Twilight and her friends to spend Hearth's Warming Eve with her and Luna at Canterlot. But when Twilight is arrested for a crime she didn't commit, Luna is convinced that it has something to do with why she became Nightmare Moon so long ago. Twilight and Luna must clear Twilight's name and confront the secret behind Nightmare Moon before she takes over again, embarking on a journey through a frozen forest into a the deepest reaches of their own fears. A romantic horror story for the holidays!
  14. I absolutely loved this premiere. The first time I rewatched the same two episodes in the same day. Sombra is likely now my favorite villain on the program. I'm glad the writers wanted to do something different from the previous hammy, over-the-top villains from earlier who make big speeches on how victory is theirs. He said very little, but his traps convey to me a very cautious, organized, and prepared mind. Also, unlike Discord and Chrysalis, Sombra never just assumed he had the heroes defeated totally, allowing them to take him out with a surprise attack. Instead he was undone by something that wouldn't have occurred to him to plan for. I'm unsure if I want him to return though; I kind of like not knowing much about Sombra. I loved the songs too. Can't get enough! Overall, these might be my favorite episodes so far, and I look forward to what the future brings.
  15. As far as I can tell, the English word "alicorn" to refer to a winged unicorn is fairly resent with the earliest mention being in 1984. in the Piers Anthony Bearing an Hourglass. "Alicorn" as a unicorn horn goes back considerably further, and so has only been referring to unicorns for me, although I would imagine that a winged unicorn's horn would also be called "alicorn".
  16. I always hated "alicorn" because that traditionally was the name of a unicorn's horn. I welcome any alternative names for the flying unicorns.
  17. I hope they start making magazines like that for the countries you guys live in. Mine too. Unfortunately I had to tear it out of the magazine, and since it was done imperfectly there was some minor ripping down the center.
  18. From the French magazine I bought in Paris, this lovely Celestia poster! Turn it over, and... Pinkie Pie!
  19. I like what I see so far. I hope Comixology will carry them so I can buy and read them on-line. I wonder if these stories will be canon or like the Adventure Time comic have their own continuity after a certain point for freedom of storytelling. There are definite good points and bad points to either approach.
  20. I'm glad you like his. Phil is so good with the cute pony romance stories.
