  1. So I've recently recovered my Laptop from a friend and thought I'd put Ubuntu on it. I have to admit, I was expecting it to be different, but.. Gracious. I wasn't expecting the Mac OS-esque GUI (of course, I didn't know what to expect.) I've actually come to regret putting Ubuntu on my laptop as it seems to be slower than ever. Is there perhaps a lighter version of Linux that is a bit more snappy? I've had long loading times on other computers before, but when it takes upwards of 10 to 20 seconds to open a web-browser... Something just ain't right.
  2. Good point actually....perhaps Flim and Flam were planning to buy Sweet Apple Acres whenever it was going to go under. I know that was/is a pretty common business plan in some instances.
  3. How doesn't it? A pair of businessme-erm...business-ponies come to a farm seeking to take on another facet of their product, mainly the production of raw materials for their cider. The propose a plan which benefits them more than any other party, and proceed to decrease quality to increase profits. Seems fairly sensical to me.
  4. Also: Before I forget for the 5th time... I think there a painfully brilliant, if insanely subtle joke that I simply love. Rarity's Weather PATTERNS. Not sure if it was intended to be a joke or not....but.....daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaang.
  5. I will agree with you on the basis of not liking the episode. Heck, it's the ONLY episode that I came away not like at all. (I think it was done amazingly well, and the songs were great, but paradoxically, I don't like the episode.) It's also quite difficult to say whether the "true essence of mutual-friendship has been lost" or not. We cannot assume anything about how their relationships are going to change based on Twi becoming ZE TWI-LICORN! At least in my mind, Twilight would stay humble enough to try, and likely even insist, that her old friends do not treat her differently. I would finally say we shouldn't pass judgement on the episode quite yet as supposedly this is only part one of a three part story arc. If people want, I can attempt to find the Twitter that quite literally says it. I can only assume that the season 4 opener will be something large and epic, having used the season 3 finale as Act 1 for character development and such.
  6. If you didn't cry while watching the episode.... Prepare to cry now! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8KCW7N2NGiM&feature=player_embedded
  7. My vote could have gone three ways here... I rather liked the Apple Family Reunion: It was an AJ episode that was desperately needed, it brought Babs back with a less antagonistic personality, it added members to the apple family and brought back old ones. Just a really good episode. Then just for side kicks. It was a great Spike episode, even though I feel it was kind of "stupid fun", but fun none-the-less. Still mad about Pee-Wee being given back to his parents, but...hey... It wouldn't have been right any other way. But my vote HAS to go to Sleepless in Ponyville. We get a Scootaloo episode which I think is a first, Rainbow Dash finally becomes likable to me by sharing some of her weaknesses, Luna makes a MAJOR appearance and is given more significance in the world of Equestria....I could go on and on and on and on, but I'll stop here. Funny, touching, relevant, and a [lot] bit of fan-service. Just an amazing episode in my opinion.
  8. I want to like this episode so darn much. I just finished watching it a second time and I just can't seem to like it as much as the rest of you. The episode is good from a technical and artistic standpoint; the songs phenomenal, the design of various things in the episode are great (the dresses, Rarity's weather PATTERNS HUHUHUHUHUHUH, the eye thing they do when returning to themselves), but the story.... It feels as though that the story was a lightning speed recap of dozens and dozens of things that happened throughout the episode. Discord, Nightmare Moon, various back-ground characters, the Royal Canterlot wedding, so many things touched upon. I imagine it was done to demonstrate how far both the show and Twilight have come. That's all fine and good, and frankly, it's quite clever. What bothers me is that so little seemed to happen. The story doesn't really fit the traditional pattern in literature, at least as I understand it. (Problem, climax, solution. Note: I may have the "tradition" pattern for stories completely wrong.) Instead, this seemed to be a problem, which was solved, and then there was a extremely "random" twist/climax at the end. Supposedly there are 2 more parts of this story arc coming, so it's hard to judge the episode based on this alone. I would go so far as to guess that one of two major things are going to be occurring (likely in a 2-part season 4 opener): either Twilight is going leaving Ponyville to fill her role as a Canterlot Princess, or... And this would be EXTREMELY cool and/or brilliant, Celestia has been gaining allies to fight some titanic threat. Her sister Luna, Discord, now Twilight. These are all extremely powerful characters who have turned to good/evolved/etc. Perhaps it's my paranoia creeping, but I would assume that Celestia is preparing for SOMETHING. (Hey, maybe even CELESTIA is going away, I dunno.) On a final note: Have a "Princess" Pinkie - Probably my favorite screen-cap of this episode.
  9. I have begun formulating a conspiracy theory that may explain some things, but I'll need to re-watch the episode in no less than 720-p.
  10. I can't believe I just noticed those dresses. They're really nice looking. And if Rarity is anything to go by (And maybe RD?), do they incorporate the elements of Harmony Necklaces? That's a pretty neat idea if they did that. Also: Derpy.
  11. Oh yes...This....Oh Sweet Cel-.....Oh Sweet Princess Twilight this... I don't know know if that was Nicole Oliver singing, but it was beautiful and perfect and just....YEEEEEEEESSSSS
  12. Not really sure if you could call it a call-back, but the touch on Pinkie's relationship with the citizens of Ponyville in this season finale kinda reminded me of the episode A Friend in Deed.
  13. I...I just....I want to like this episode... But.. WHAT?! This episode...People thought that the recent Discord episode was rushed, and I defend that. This is just...I like the music but I have to say this is the first episode I did not like. Maybe after some discussion I'll understand it better, but... And i do realize that it likely could only have been what it was. The episode was changing, not only the canon of the show, but the relationships of the show. It changed so much, and yet so little seemed to have happen.
  14. http://www.quickmeme.com/meme/3srs89/ I am...unsure of how to feel about this.
  15. A lot of people have said that the episode felt rushed, and initially I agreed. Within 20 minutes, Discord goes from an amazing (or terrible) villain, to a "good guy." The premise is nigh-impossible to believe, and many felt it should have been a two-part episode as such. After watching it for the second time though, I feel that, like season 3 opener, the obvious point was not actually the message the writers were trying to convey. I feel as though instead of turning Discord from Good to Evil, instead they (read: Fluttershy) taught Discord compassion. Previously, Discord was a character who had the powers to do what he wanted, when he wanted. Did he conquer Equestria and make his own empire? Did he amass any sort of fortune or fame? What he did was have fun. Looking at his character, I would say it was easy to see him as a very young child. He did that which amused him, not so much ignoring or reveling the suffering of others, but being oblivious to it. Granted, turning the Mane 6 grey was a pretty dang evil thing, but that could be written of as a form of self defense; they were trying to "hurt" him, so he hurt them first. Still a very childish method. In Keep Calm and Flutter On, Discord started off in an identical form, though with a proverbial gun to his head: if he misbehaves, he goes back to being imprisoned. What Fluttershy did was to take away this threatening situation, temporarily at first by letting Discord make himself at him inside her cottage, and then more permanently when she promised not to use her Element against him. She treated him with patience and tolerance, asking things of him rather demanding. Once she called Discord her friend at the dinner party, he realized how differently she had been treating him. At Sweet Apple Acres, when Discord froze the water, he was thinking only of only the fun that could be had and not the disruption it would cause to those around him, something that would be considered 'childish' by almost anyone. I feel an impossibly important and subtle note was that when he offered Fluttershy the skates, he did it as an activity two friends could do together to have fun. When he finally realized how his actions upset Fluttershy, and finally realized how he was about to lose his only friend, Discord gained the understanding of compassion and empathy. Discord was able to see how his shenanigans directly affected the ponies around him. In this way, I feel Discord did not turn from evil to good. I would not even say that Discord was ever truly evil, simply immature and unable to truly grasp the impact of his actions. A child does what it does because it is fun for whatever reason. Once you teach a child to think about how his/her actions and how they will affect others, that child is more likely to act restrained and more composed. Discord is still the same chaos-loving draconequus that he will always be, but I feel as though draconequus, like ponies and people, are social creatures that seek the acceptance of their peers.
  16. ...Actually they're tied.... o-O When did this happen. Engie - Primary: Shotgun, Frontier Justice, Widowmaker, Pomson Secondary: Pistol, Wrangler, Short Circut Melee: Wrench, Gunslinger, Southern Hospitality, Jag, Eureka Effect Total: 4+3+5=12 (Note: 3 Weapon re-skins not counted.) Medic - Primary: Syringe Gun, Blutsauger, Crusader's Crossbow, Overdose Secondary: Medi-gun, Kritkrieg, Quickfix Melee: Bonesaw, Uber-saw, Vita-Saw, Amputator, Solemn Vow Total: 4+3+5=12 (Note: 6 Weapon re-skins not counted.) I hadn't realized they'd given Engie enough weapons to tie with Medic, though my statement could still stand with the re-skins. But let's face it, those things don't really count.
  17. Pffft! Medic getting new medi-gun? Awesome! Engineer getting more ANYTHING! BUCKING AWSOOOOOOOOME! Let's face it, Engie literally has the least weapons, though medic is close.
  18. Main Article Here: Post Apparently, the rights to the name TSR (the original Dungeons & Dragons company) were bought up my Gary Gygax's children. They have since started planning a gaming magazine that's apparently going to release this month. I, for one, am absolutely stoked! I love table-top gaming a great deal! Let's discuss this, shall we?
  19. For quite some time, roughly three weeks or more, I have been unable to connect to the Canterlot chat. I have attempted a query into the matter, but I have only received a generic and uninformative response that I was "...banned from the chat due to your conduct and/or complaints about you in there." I attempted to further inquire as to why specifically I was banned from the chat, but I received no information, or even a response for more than 2 weeks. I still haven't any idea why I was actually removed from the chat and I am incredibly confused. Primarily I was given no warning, no notification of breaking the rules, or anything of the sort (and as far as I can tell, I have broken none of the rules.) I have been given no chance to better myself on even a personal level as I have been, I assume, deliberately denied knowledge to the fault of my personality. This is extremely vexing as this experience that I have had the last several weeks has been one that, at least in my opinion, conflicts with the values of the community and bronies in general. I am not attempting to antagonize people or exacerbate the issue; I am simply trying to find resolution, or at the very least, closure to the situation. Any and all help or information in this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.
  20. Friday, November 30th - Let there be characters! We rolled stats and went over some basic setting of the campaign. Much joking was had. Character creation was started. I would like all players to work on their characters for the coming Friday. I am going to need as many of these things as possible: Your class, your race, your name and/or title(s), your finalized stats, some back story (the more you give me, the more I can give back), alignment, skills, feats. Players needn't worry (currently) about equipment or money. The next session will be at approximately 8.30 PM EST on December 8th. See you there.
  21. it is not too late. I'll PM you with the information you need.
  22. Last night, we started to make characters, passing out stats and figuring out what people wanted to play. I also talked abit about the area that the campaign is going to be mostly taking place in. If you missed the meeting and are still interested, please put a message here, PM me, or send me a message on Skype. We'll try to work something out. Thanks.
