Hello, everypony! This is the OOC thread for an Exalted Equestria game.

To play, you need the Exalted 2nd Edition rulebooks. I'm allowing Solars and Lunars. No evildoers, please. You can be flawed, but have at least a heroic potential to develop. Make OCs, but you can choose cast members and background characters as your previous exaltations, unless they're already taken.

I'm going to take the first several posts right off the bat because posts have a limit on how much text you can put in them, and I'll want room to fill in world information as it develops. Suggestions on background text, custom rules, and the like are VERY APPRECIATED.

Custom Rules:

All ponies

All ponies gain a free specialty related to their cutie mark. This particular specialty can bring you above the +3 limit to +4.

Unicorn ponies

Only unicorn ponies can learn sorcery.

Unicorn Ponies can levitate items. levitation happens with a strength/dex/stamina equal to the pony's Essence.

All unicorn ponies can purchase an Essence 1 charm tree:

Horn-strengthening Exercise

Prereq: Essence 1, Wits 2

Use Wits instead of Essence to determine levitation's Strength rating.

At Essence 2, add Wits to Essence to determine levitation's Strength rating.

Dextrous Horn Practice

Prereq: Essence 1, Perception 2

Use Perception instead of Essence to determine levitation's Dexterity rating.

At Essence 2, add Perception to Essence to determine levitation's Dexterity rating.

Magical Stamina Drill

Prereq: Essence 1, Intelligence 2

Use Initelligence instead of Essence to determine levitation's Stamina rating.

At Essence 2, add Intelligence to Essence to determine levitation's Stamina rating.

Pegasus ponies

Pegasus ponies are able to fly at a rate equal to their normal walking move rate.

All pegasus ponies can purchase an Essence 1 charm tree:

To be added

Earth Ponies

Earth ponies get an extra dot in their attributes, and two extra dots in abilities.

All earth ponies can purchase an Essence 1 charm tree:

To be added

Rules Summary

The Exalted system is a World of Darkness system, but set during the first and second ages of the world - before the umbra and the physical world separated, before the laws of physics were set in stone, and magic attracted Paradox. Before the fae were part of our world, and were more Cthulu than Pooka. An age of HEROES.

There are many types of exalted, but the two you can choose are Solars and Lunars.

Solars are the perfect heroes. The rules are actually slanted to cheat in favour of Solars. They take generally less experience to level up all their charms, and their charms are pretty straightforward. Their charms are based on their abilities: Simplified: If they're good with a sword, they can attack with it as if it were a lightsaber. If they're good with their words, they can do Jedi Mind Tricks. If they're good at stealth, they can turn invisible. Now, dial it up to 11. A powerful solar archer can take out an entire group of enemies with a single arrow, fired once.

Solars are divided into 5 castes:

Dawn Caste: Warriors of the sun.

Zenith Caste: Priests of the sun.

Twilight: Sorcerers and know-it-alls of the sun.

Night Caste: Scouts (rogues, thieves) of the sun.

Eclipse: Diplomats of the sun.

Yes. Twilights are the librarians and magic-users. Yes. This is real. I'm not kidding. It's hilarious how well this game works with MLP.

Lunars are the adaptable ones. They're shapeshifters - in the game proper, they get a laundry list of shapes they can turn into by eating hearts. They start off being able to do simply natural animals between cat and moose size, which covers a lot, but they can spend xp on knacks to widen the scope of their abilities. In Exalted Equestria, instead of eating hearts, they have to observe the animal for a time (usually an hour) and then absorb the creature's essence. Essentially the animal becomes one with them, its instincts fueling the pony's own ability to be in their form. The animal might do this willingly, if the Lunar approaches it properly. Or the Lunar might have to defeat it first, pokemon style. Gotta Catch 'em all!

Lunar magical awesomeness is not done by skills - it's done by their base attributes. As such, a Lunar gets to up their base attributes more cheaply than any other exalt type. But the cost of their charms, the cost of raising their Essence, and several other things are higher for Lunars than for Solars.

Still better than Mortals, though.

Lunars used to have 5 castes, too. But their exile into the Wyld... broke them. They recreated three castes, best they could.

Full Moon: Warriors of the Moon

Changing Moon: Scouts and Diplomats of the Moon

New Moon: Priests and Wizards of the Moon

Glossary

Attributes

The basic 9 attributes that define a character's natural inclinations. (Physical) Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, (Social) Charisma, Manipulation, Appearance, (Mental) Perception, Intelligence, Wits. Attributes can go up to level 5, or your Essence Rating, whichever is higher.

Abilities

The 25(+) defining skills for character interaction, divided into groups depending on the exalt type. Please see character sheets for details. Craft is a special case - there's a separate Craft skill for each element and a number of other things. Craft(Fire) and Water, Air, Earth, and Wood, plus Craft(Fate), Craft(Magitech), Craft(Genesis), and etc. other rare ones. Abilities can go up to level 5, or your Essence Rating, whichever is higher.

Anima

Really Freakin' Huge Auras. When an exalt uses a whole lot of peripheral motes, their Anima Banner activates. Uncontrollably. This is a huge, shaped aura that reflects your caste and personality, and provides certain benefits at high level. But also makes you stand out like nopony's business. For instance: A Tiger Lunar might end up having an aura shaped like their tiger form, larger and surrounding them no matter what form they're in. A Solar might have animated angelic wings of golden light sprout from their shoulders and surround them.

Solars have gold anmas. Lunars have silver animas. Other exalts have other colours and types.

Caste Mark

Related to Animas - the caste mark is a golden or silver (or other colour for other exalts) mark on your forehead that appears when you use a lot of peripheral motes.

Charms

The magical talents of an exalt. Kinda like a spell effect, but not quite - costs motes and sometimes willpower.

Demense

A place of magical oomph. Where ley lines collide. You regain motes faster in a friendly demense. Can be built up into a Manse.

Essence

The basic magical oomph of an exalt. Kinda equates to 'Level'. Essence 1 characters are mortal. You start off at Essence 2. It goes up to 10. Essence is the 'limit' on character ratings. Mortals are limited at 5 ... but once an Exalt hits Essence 6, they're basically in the 'surpassing every mortal boundary' stage.

Hearthstone

A magic stone from the heart of a manse. It conveys a unique magical ability to its wearer, allows them to regain motes as if they were in a demense, and can be used as a power source for high-level artifacts.

Intimacy

Extra dice versus mind control and social attacks for specific purposes. These can be positive intimacies ( I will not hurt my team) or negative intimacies (I HATE demons!)

Knacks

Specialized Lunar charms used to enhance their shapeshifting. Less expensive than 'proper' charms.

Limit (Break)

When you try to resist mind control and fail (or resist your virtue flaw) you get Limit. When you Limit Break, you instantly break free of all mind control, regain willpower, lots of good stuff. And you trigger your virtue flaw. Lunars do not escape their solar match's mind control, but they do escape all other solars' mind control.

Manse

A place of developed power. Has various special magical abilities. Regains motes faster than a demense. Creates hearthstones.

Motes

The magic points you use to power your magic. Divided into Personal Motes (smaller pool that doesn't activate anima) and Peripheral Motes (larger pool that activates your anima by using it.) Motes can also be 'committed' - IE: spent and not recovered - to activate various charms or artifacts. Committed motes can (and should) be from your peripheral pool, and will activate your anima initially, but will not keep your anima up - it fades away as normal, but you still have the charm's or artifact's benefits.

Sorcery

REAL magical spells - very potent. No 'light' and 'magic missile' here. These pretty much start off at high-level spells and then get more powerful from there. Three levels of spells, and first-level is 'wipe out a squad of mortal soldiers with a single attack'. Third-level is 'Summon a Magma Kraken to dispose of a squad of exalts.' Yes, that is a giant squid hundreds of feet long made of magma that swims through solid rock and has dozens of tentacles to reach out of solid ground in order to grab its dinner.

Virtues

Four ratings of the character's personality. Each one gives strengths and weaknesses associated with their score. Compassion, Temperance, Conviction, and Valor. Compassion is a character's ability to sympathize with his fellow man, and inability to turn away from suffering. Temperance is self-control, but also loses the ability to relax. Conviction helps you stick to your guns and know what's right and wrong, but makes it difficult for you to compromise. Valor is the strength to resist fear, but the inability to turn away from a challenge.

Virtue Flaw

Every Exalt has a unique virtue flaw, usually but not always based on their highest-rated virute, and with its own specific triggers. Denying your virtue flaw gives you Limit. When you Limit Break, you go crazy in a specific way. There are examples in the book, but it usually involves either sending that virtue into overdrive, or completely reversing it. For instance: valor flaws can either have you go into a murderous rampage, or turn you into a sniveling coward. Solar flaws tend to be themed towards corrupting what makes them a hero. Lunar flaws tend to be themed towards turning into animals in mind as well as body.

The History of the First Age

This is the history you were taught, the history they want you to believe.

That in the beginning, the Great Primordial, Gaia, the writer Alicorn with ivory coat and roan mane, stepped out upon the eternal storm of chaos, and existence itself formed under her every footstep, as she made Equestria from the her own creative imagination. She populated the land with Ponies, whom she loved, and gave to them dragons as caretakers. More importantly, she made the Dragonblooded, blessed above all other ponies, their power proving their right to rule with wisdom and grace.

That the Dragonblooded ponies formed the Empire, and that the Emperess, long may she live, forever may she rule, is the current possessor of Gaia's blessing. All of us ponies are placed simply to serve those Dragonblooded, to live our lives however we would, as long as we trust to their infinite benevolance.

She gave birth to the lesser beings, the Gods, such as Celestia, Luna, the Five Sisters, the city gods and gods of the roads, the gods of crafting, of merchantry - all gods come from her fertile imagination. Thus, it is wrong to worship any lesser god - worship only Gaia.

As we were taught by the Immaculate Order. But that is not the True History.

This is the true history, the history they want you to forget, the history they have buried.

In the beginning, there was Gaia, the Writer, but there were also her siblings, the other primordials, beings of order in a giant infinite expanse of chaos. There was the Artist - He Who Gives Shape to Thought. (LIST MORE HERE)

There were also her cousins, the great beings of chaos. Discord the Mocking, Chrysalis the Formless, and countless others - circling around the Primordials, laughing at them and mocking them for the idea of something solid. The Primordials came to Gaia and the lost Artist, and asked them to use their powers to make something more. It took all the Primordials, but out of formlessness, they took the ideas of solid ground, of breezy air, of washing waves, crackling fire, and growing things, and they created Equestria.

It was a place of order, and it hurt the eyes of their chaotic brethern, and trapped them in bonds of flesh if they came upon it - and so the Primordials were free of their mocking. They seized upon ideas of ponies, and crafted them from these five elements, and made them into the land - and the ponies lived and died in such short, meaningless lives, struggling and despairing, and sending up prayers to the Primordials, then dying and being reborn into the wheel of reincarnation. The Primordials grew fat and powerful on those prayers, supping on the misery of ponykind.

But the Primordials didn't wish to spend their time defending and maintaining all of creation, so they created the gods, with powers near to their own, but lesser - and seeing a threat in gods that did not exist in ponies, they built into the gods an inescapable demand - to obey every word a Primordial commanded of them, enslaving the gods to their whims.

But Gaia was compassionate for her creation - she saw so much more potential for her creation than merely slaves and food. Along with her brother, the Artist, she worked with the gods and crafted the Shards of Exaltation - that would give incredible power to the lowly ponies, who were not bound by oaths of service, and not thought a threat - so that the lowly ponies could free the gods.

300 for Celestia the Six-Winged, the Unconquered Sun. They were heroes, warriors, to lead the battle against the Primordials. To be Perfect. 300 for Luna, the ever-adapating and ever-changing. They were defenders, guardians, each assigned to one solar, and to watch the borders of creation for incursions by the Ancient Ones. 100 total for the Five Sisters - 20 for each. They were advisors, the bearers of destiny, the fate ninjas. And finally, Gaia made exalted for herself - but born from her fertile imagination, they were not limited, but instead multiplied into the armies of creation, to follow the Solars against the Primordials, the only exaltation shards not to be remade when they died, but instead to be born anew.

For a thousand years they battled - the exalted dying and being reincarnated time and time again, fighting a desperate and impossible battle. The battles were unimaginable in their power, impossible in their sheer scope, and reality itself shuddered from the blows being dealt - but in the end, they managed to succeed. Several of the Eternal Primordials, the unkillable ... were killed. Reality itself shook at the concept, and was wounded, and the concept of True Death was introduced to the land - the wheel of reincarnation was broken, and the Deadlands were created. The Neverborn - the forgotten and slain Primordials - rule there in a dual existance of both being and not being. The remaining Primordials, horrified at the impossible becoming possible, all surrendered, and were bound in a prison of flesh, becoming demons, rulers of a place of their own creation, without any slaves but themselves.

But reality was free, and the exalted turned their attention towards fixing the damage of the battle, and of making the lives of simple ponies better. And now the gods grew fat not not on pleas for survival, but upon the prayers of thanksgiving by grateful ponies.

The six heroes who fought the final battle in the war were given domination over the land, but little did they suspect in those ancient days that in their dying breath, the Neverborn cursed the exalted who had defeated them - turning their greatest strengths into the vital flaws... and so, the perfect heroes became perfectly corrupt. The defenders became the animals that they imitated. The advisors became convinced of their own perfection.

In Deserts surrounding the Pole of Fire in the south ruled Rarity, The Oasis of Beauty. She went to create a land and culture of great beauty, where all could be seen at their best - to promote art, and grace ... but as time went on, she became more obsessed with gathering all things of beauty to herself. She ruled from the Volcano City of Gem, where she had remade creation to cause precious jewels to grow in abundance from the lethal lava pits, and she drove her slaves to their deaths collecting those jewels for her collection. She scoured the south for the Stallions and Mares of great beauty, and brought them back to Gem where she transformed them into living ponies made of diamond, so she could have servants who could be beautiful forever.

In the cloud cities surrounding the Pole of Air in the frozen north ruled Rainbow Dash, The Dancing colours Across the Sky. In her glory, she held great contests and rewarded the victors, encouraging all ponies to chase their dreams. But in her corruption, she herself joined the contests, unwilling for any to win but herself, lusting for the thrill of victory - and the fate for those losing to her was death. Competition was mandatory, the greatest champions of the land conscripted and granted even more power so that they might give her some fleeting challenge.

In the breadbasket surrounding the Pole of Wood in the lush east ruled Applejack, the Word who Spoke of Family. Once her land was known as the hard-working, as Applejack drove herself harder than any of her people, expanding creation into the wild to create more farmlands and more orchards to feed the whole of Equestria. She walked the land, spreading seed everywhere, and leading the ponies of the east as a matron would lead her family. In her corruption, though, work became everything - as hard as she pushed herself to work, she expected all others to keep up with her, and worked her ponies to death. There was no rest, there was barely sleep, there was only the job.

In the oceans surrounding the Pole of Water in the west ruled Pinkie Pie, The Smile that Brings Laughter. A reluctant ruler, Pinkie Pie mostly left the ruling of her land to underlings, and instead went forth to make it safe, battling against the fleets of pirates found there, thrilling to the rush of the raiding party. But when there were no more threats to contend against, she instead turned pirate herself, the Laughing Captain, who pillaged and slew her own people, and turned her raiding parties upon her own armadas. And once the armadas were defeated, she turned around and fought back the other way, defeating the pirate fleets she had created for herself, creating an infinite party of death and destruction.

And in the magic-rich lands in the center of the creation, surrounding the Pole of Earth, rules Fluttershy, the Soft Smile in our Hearts and Minds. She would walk the lands, smiling and gazing deep into the eyes of those she meets, learning their needs, their worries, and doing what she could to help everyone, and all responded with dear love for their leader. But in her heart, Fluttershy worried that they were not true, and saw they loved others more - and the more she worried and sought out deeper love, the more they recoiled from her, till she found herself using new powers to change the nature of her Stare, burning out their minds of all else but their all-encompassing love of her, and deep obedience.

And over them all, from the holy city of Canterlot atop Mount Maru with the Mandate to Rule from Celestia: the Unconquered Sun, ruled Twilight Sparkle, the Magic that Surpasses all Limits. But her brilliance turned inwards, and she withdrew entirely from the world, involving herself solely in her studies - seeking out magical solutions to all problems - to disease, to hunger, even to death itself, and she abandoned Equestria.

Rarity's lunar match was Prince Blueblood - whom she was drawn to because of his incredible good looks and regal bearing, but apalled at his personality. He was her first experiment at turning beauty into eternal diamond, and he managed to survive through two decades of experimentation before she allowed him to die - but by that time, she had perfected the process. She never did find her reborn lunar match, and it's said that with the memories of his old exaltation, the new lunar fled into the Wyld rather than be captured by her again.

Applejack's lunar match was her brother, Big Macintosh. He was fiercely loyal to her, throughout her rule and corruption, and when the Dragonblooded came for battle, they had to get first through his enraged defense as a giant dog standing a hundred feet tall before they could slay her, and thousands upon thousands of Dragonblooded died in the process.

It's unknown what the name of Pinkie Pie's lunar match was - only that she never allowed him to transform out of his spirit animal shape, that of a giant alligator. He always accompanied her no matter if she fought on the side of the law, or if she was playing as a pirate. It's said she once had him eat her hoof so that she could be a proper pirate with a hook-leg, but that game eventually tired for her and she grew it back again.

Rainbow Dash's lunar match, Lightning Dust, had once bested her in a race - and for one day, was placed above her. Rainbow Dash, forever after, NEVER let that happen again.

Fluttershy's lunar match, Angel, was another of those lunar matches lost to his spirit animal form - that of a tiny rabbit whose outward appearance was as innocent as her own. His brutal defense of his mistress, however, was feared even more than her mind-destroying stare.

Twilight Sparkle's lunar match, the Great and Powerful Trixie, was left as abandoned and alone as the rest of creation by the studies of her solar match. She traveled the lands wide and far, trying to hold things together, pretending she had Twilight's authority, and that her magical prowess was just as fierce. She was eventually ignored, and she, too, fell to her corruption of pride, and was taken down during the usurpation of the Dragon-Blooded.

From the day she can first remember she was wearing chains about her legs. Ferrou Dust was named for her fur coat, charcoal grey except for the shine dusted in her coat that reflected the colour of the irons shackling her. She doesn’t even remember her mother’s name, never even saw her father, both were sold long when she was young. Her memory has always been that as a slave. She prayed every day that she would get free, she looked up at the sky and saw the free pegusi and wished she could be like them, climb into the clouds until she could no longer see this place and leave it all behind. But this earth pony was forced to work as a blacksmith day in and day out, making tools and weapons for those that owned her, otherwise she would be beaten, such was a slaves lot in life. But the pain she felt when she was the target to the beatings wasn’t as bad as when she saw another being whipped, and that’s exactly what changed everything. One day she saw a young colt being whipped, the colt had followed orders, but it changed nothing, and Ferrou Dust could take it no more. She knew she would be struck down, she knew she’d be luckiest if she didn’t survive, but she took up her hammer in her mouth and charged the guard, never noticing the bright silver light surrounding her, but others did. All she knew was the slaver would never bully another when his skull cracked under the blow from her hammer, as did another slavers, and anothers as each came after her, even as groups. When the angry blacksmith mare turned to strike down another slaver, she finally realized there was no more left standing, the walls of her prison were beaten down, every chain shattered. The enslaved ponies were free. She led them out into the woods, many turned to the roads to find cities that would take them in, many said they would spread the word of her deeds, but others were terrified of this powerful mare. But a small few chose to follow her, a small few saw when the woodland animals came to her changing into ponies, telling Ferrou she was blessed by the Dark Mare of Night and Dreams Luna, and few ponies saw as she was led to learn how to harness her blessings. As Ferrou was receiving her tattoos, many thought the illiterate mare so fleet of foot and vicious in battle would be a Full Moon warrior, but by the end of her initiation and a month in the library once the excited mare found out she could learn to read, she she had not only learned the language of the tattoos, but knew more of the history than most of her new sisters and brothers, she knew she belonged to the No Moon Caste, to learn, to teach... her power would protect the strength and knowledge and let it spread, teaching other ponies to be as mighty as her.

History: Crazy Horse, a small crooked-looking Earth Pony, was born as the son of a Khan of Chiaroscuro, and a lady of the Blessed Isles. The story of how those two met would make its own epic, but for now, let us say that they were surprisingly well-matched. The city expected much of the son of such a union, but he was born disfigured, and physically crippled; his spine was crooked, and not all of his legs were the same length. In a society ruled by warlords, having such a pony as an heir was considered a disgrace. However, his family did not bow to outside pressure to disown their progeny, instead pushing him to surpass his limitations, and prove the naysayers wrong.

He was taught the arts of war and ruling by his father, whose own father was son of Alhat, the local god of War; balanced by not a little of civilization and diplomacy by his mother. He developed into quite the charmer, adroit at getting other ponies to follow him. His ability to quickly get together a force, and carry out unconventional plans (the Great Incendiary Cat Plot is still spoken of with a hushed admiration), gained him not a little respect among his peers.

Unfortunately, the supreme ruler of the city, the Ream Satrap, was most displeased with Crazy Horse. It was bad enough to think that he'd have to deal with a weakling as a Khan's heir, but the insubordinate, irrepressible git he actually turned out to be? No, Crazy Horse had to go.

So, our hero was sent out to fight the Desert Ponies, a sand-dwelling race of cannibals, with a small force equally comprised of losers who hadn't quite mustered out yet, and soldiers with about as much resentment of authority as their commander.

Certain death loomed, but then a gray pony, not part of his force, came out of the dust with key intelligence, and Crazy Horse simultaneously came up with a plan of attack based on it, and exalted. The intel and newfound Solar Abilities proved key to squeaking out a victory that day - but he can't remember the name or cutie mark of his mysterious benefactor, and none of his subordinates remember him at all...

History:

Born as one of the rare Dragon Blooded to the nobles of House Nellens, Seaweed Ivy knew she loved the sea from the first time she scented the slight tang of salt in the air. She has done her best, as an adult, to keep a crew for her ship so she can sail free towards the riches and power that her small house so desperately needs to continue surviving (and possibly someday thriving) as one of the Noble houses in the Realm. She is the Captain of The Animus and she has made if very clear that if her crew is not loyal to her they do not continue to be her crew. Her reputation for loyalty, both to her House and her Crew, is known in a few places, oddly outshining her penchant to flirt with anything that breaths. Her family is very important to her, to the point that when her House was in need of new heirs to raise she took time off from her sailing to produce them, insuring they were more likely to exalt when they came of age. Out of the 4 children she's birthed none of them realize she is their mother, though she brings them presents from her travels when she visits them.

Hm, very intriguing! I'd actually be interested in joining, but I don't have the sourcebook, and there isn't a local gamestore nearby (which has stymied most other attempts to get into Tabletop RPG's)

For the primordials, I do have a few suggestions:

The Musician, who gives Form to Emotion

The Director, who Guides the Forms

The Sponsor, who Brings the Message

I can help build your character for you ... or you can also pick up a lot of it through drivethrurpg.com - where White Wolf does its online sales of PDF rulebooks.

And I LOVE those ideas! Except that the other Primordials are all pretty much enslaving jerks who want ponykind to suffer and are the modern-day demons. I wonder if I could use them anyway. Their potential, versus how they misuse it...

I'd kind of like to do a test drive before I drop the money to invest; but if you're willing to help build a character, that'd be great! My skype name's in my profile (same as my username, actually).

OK, added a rules summary, and a glossary, and added a link to character sheets.

Gamerkane: You can make a new character, or use one of your OCs. It's entirely up to you - but it will not be however your OC is, you'll have to re-create your OC as if it's a new character in this Exalted world.

Rackenhammer: I sent you a message on Skype. I think.

I will help you each in turn as well as I can. But till then - a big question is: Would you want to adventure in the berserker-razed frozen north, the lush and brigand infested forests of the east, the cannibal ravished desert south, or the pirate plundered ocean of the west?

I downloaded the PDF. So far I'm doing pretty good on the creation, all that's left is the charms (And that's because I kinda want them all) and Intimacies (because I haven't read that part yet.) Overall, I feel like I'm making good progress by myself, but if I need help I'll ask.

 • 2 weeks later...

I thought I'd give an example of character creation for you guys, so that you might have a better idea how to go about this, especially with how hard it is for me to spend that much time on Skype.

I'm putting together a character, so my first step is to go to the provided link in order to get a character sheet ( 2nd edition ). I decide I want to play a Lunar character. Everyone else is doin' it! In this, I'll be differentiating between me, the guy making the character, and Bramble, the Storyteller in charge.

Post 1: Character Concept

So having a new character, and not knowing much about the world, I decide to go pretty simple: I want to make someone who was a farmer. They don't know much about the world, and they're not expected to know much about the world. They were some small farmer from, mmmnnnn... The East, some nowhere village that never got anything from anywhere.

I want my character to be "The Big Guy" - a hefty clydesdale stallion. I decide I want him to have a brown coat and a bright green mane, to make him look like a tree. As a farmer, his cutie mark was... a hoe! All he wanted was the simple life.

But something bad happened! Slavers came to this out-of-the-way village, and stole away my entire family, and all my friends! Somewhere along the trip, while we're all stumbling along, I exalt, and change into ... hrm... I'm "The Big Guy" ... I want my spirit animal to be a T-Rex! As T-Rex, I savaged the slavers and all my friends and family ran away... I haven't seen them since!

I decide that my tell is a stripe of tough green skin along my spine, reptilian style. My Anima Banner is spectral silver full-plate armor, with a helmet shaped like a T-rex head.

And finally, I need to figure out who he's reincarnated from. I COULD go ahead and be Big Mac, and it would make sense a whole lot... But I decide I want more of a disparity between my last life and my previous life, something to make things confusing for me. So I decide that in my last life, I was a a musician... It fits with my charisma as my favored attribute. I hesitate between Lyra and Vinyl Scratch... Lyra is more of a disparity, but I think I'll keep some of the forwardness of this character, and pick Vinyl Scratch.

So, I mark down on my sheet that I'm a Full-Moon Lunar, spirit shape T-Rex, and Tell as a scaly green stripe down my back.

Bramble Responds to my first post:

He informs me that this is a great idea - the slaver group is called "The Guild". T-Rexs are called "Tyrant Kings," and are totally valid spirit animals. As a Lunar, I was found by other Lunars and taught how to do lunar-type stuff, but I'm still a newbie. And as a Big Guy, I'm probably a Full Moon - the warrior caste. Sounds good to me! Also, that it's actually not uncommon in the far-East villages where no one ever goes... the Wyld chaos keeps mutating ponies out that way.

Post 2: Attributes and Abilities

On my character sheet, I fill in one circle in each of the 9 attributes.

So knowing that my character is 'The Big Guy' - I go ahead and put Physical as my primary, and Mental as my tertiary. I put 8 dots in Physical, 6 dots in Social, and 4 dots in Mental:

Strength 5 Dexterity 1 Stamina 5 - (8 dots) I'm huge and powerful, but slow and clumsy.

Charisma 4 Manipulation 2 Appearance 3 - (6 dots) I'm likable, bad at lying to folks, and I can clean up all right.

Perception 3 Intelligence 2 Wits: 2 - (4 dots) I notice things going on, but that's about it. Otherwise I'm pretty average.

As a full moon, Strength, Dexterity, and Stamina are my 'caste attributes', and I add one more favored Attribute. I choose Charisma. I like people to like me.

I also get one additional attribute point in a caste or favored attribute. I'm not fond of being TOO clumsy, so I bump my Dexterity up to 2.

For abilities, I start off putting 2 dots in survival (which I figure I already had, as a farmer in the wilds of the East) and 1 dot in Martial Arts (not formal martial arts - I just knew how to deliver a good, solid apple-buckin' kick, y'know what I mean?)

Then I have 25 more dots to spread around, nothing above 3 dots. I spend:

Craft(wood): 3 dots - since I'm a farmer.

Craft(fire): 1 dot - a tiny bit of smithing to keep my tools in good shape.

Resistance: 3 dots - Just because I'm The Big Guy

Athletics: 3 dots - Just because I'm The Big Guy

Ride: 2 dots - Hey, can I have a domesticated giant reptile that I hooked up to the plow and lead around? That'd be awesome!

Medicine: 2 dots - just first-aid for ponies around town.

Awareness: 2 dots - I am good at finding the critters that keep ruining my crops, or finding stuff that's wearing out before it breaks.

Socialize: 3 dots - I'm very sociable and likable.

Martial Arts 3, Survival 3, will use up 3 more dots.

At this point, I've pretty much spent everything I wanted to, and I still have 3 dots left. I ask Bramble for advice on what else to spend it on.

Then I have 3 specializations and 1 cutie mark specialization here.

For my cutie mark specialization, I put it into Craft as 'Providing for Others'

For the other three specializations, I put "Martial Arts: When holding ground", and "Awareness: Spotting something's wrong," and "Athletics: Tireless work"

Bramble Responds: "Good spread there - if you need 3 more dots, try 1 dot of lore, so you can read, and 1 dot of occult, plus 1 dot of linguistics, using the extra language for Old Realm. It's important for farmers to have somepony around who can talk to the local spirits and lesser gods, to assure a good harvest and pleasant weather. You can just add that in as flavour for your character. Since you're from the east, your default language is "ForestSpeak."

I like this, so I add it in.

Post 3 and 4: Virtues, Charms, etc.

Here's where it starts getting complicated, cause I'm not sure what all this stuff is now, or what my list of possible charms even *IS*.

Let's start with Backgrounds, though - I know that everyone I ever knew ran away, and so none of the 'allies' or 'contacts' or any of those seems likely. I guess I know some Lunars, so I can take Mentor, and I'd like some artifacts ... what's Solar Bond and Heart's Blood and Manse?

Charms, no idea.

Virtues, I put one dot in each, then spread five more dots throughout... let's go with... 3 Compassion, since all I really want is a simple life and caring for my friends and family. And I'll do ... 3 valor, showing what I'll do to protect them. And 2 temperance, for self control so I don't scare them away again. 1 Conviction, since I really don't know what to do with life.

Bramble Responds:

Heart's Blood is how many shapes you start with. It gets higher at an incredibly rapid pace - 1-3 for one dot, 4-7 for 2, up to 15 for 3, and a few dozen by 5. It's easy to get new shapes, you can learn as many as you like, just by spending an hour and finding the creature to turn into. Solar Bond is basically extra dice to use to protect against mind-control ... except against your Solar Match. Your Solar Match gets to use your Solar Bond as extra dice to mind control you. This was a great idea during the Primordial War, but during the corruption of the First Age, it turned really bad, really fast. Manse is basically a magic plot of land, culminating in a magic stone you can carry around with you that powers your high-level artifacts, lets you regen motes faster, and has special abilities.

As for charms - there's a knack you'll definitely need: "Towering Beast Expansion" which lets you take a t-rex sized critter. Usually, you can only take from a cat to a moose size, but you can expand that with knacks. There's even larger and even smaller ones. I'd also suggest, as you're the 'Big Guy', to take a knack that lets you keep your strength no matter what shape you're using... so you can be a mouse with your normal strength score. Also, as the "Big Guy" I'd suggest Stamina and Strength charms for dealing and taking damage, obviously. However, if you want to also go with Charisma, there's some charms for getting people's attention, as well as some Jedi Mind Trick type charms. Which would you like me to look up for you? If you want to look yourself, you can always look at white wolf's exalted wiki.

I respond:

"Oh, taking and dealing damage, for sure - I don't want to do Jedi Mind Tricks, but I would like something to captivate people's attention, make me feel comfortable. Can I have that? And I want that thing that lets me keep my strength score, that's hilarious. Plus, you gave me an idea, I want to PM you for some of my merits and flaws.

I think I'll take Manse 2, Mentor 2, and Solar Bond 3.

I hope everything looks good. Let me know if any changes are needed. Mind goes all :???: after all the math . (I may play a New moon... but I myself certainly am not one.)
