Tigrus Gemshoe [Ready]

Recommended Posts

Roleplay Type:World of Equestria

Name:Tigrus Gemshoe

Sex: Male

Age: Older Stallion

Species: Crystal Pony

Eye colour: A reddish orange similar to his coat colour, but lighter, with the typical gem-like shape

Coat: Like all crystal ponies his coat has a gem like shimmer. It is auburn in colour on the darker side.

Mane/Tail: Mane and tail are a smokey golden colour. His mane is slicked back and pulled into a short ponytail. When free it is usually a mess, as he doesn't maintain it at all, as he sees it as a nuisance and unnecessary to his occupation. His tail is unkempt like his mane, but more noticeably so. He flicks it to style it which usually only serves to fluff it and bring out how messy it is.

Physique: Athletic. He is quite active. Though he is extremely thin despite how physically fit he is. Some might even think him anemic, but really it is all well toned muscle.

Residence: Crystal Empire

Occupation: Detective

Cutie Mark:A crystal-like ball magnifying glass enlarging a hoofprint.

Tigrus was but a colt when tragedy struck his friend. Well a tragedy for a colt anyway. His friend's family ran a farm with ewes, and they would each take turns watching them to ensure they didn't wonder off or jump the fence. One night while his friend was watching them somehow a ewe had disappeared!

It had been a long day at school and his friend was doing school work when he nodded off. This didn't seem like a big problem, when he suddenly awoke after he had heard the sound of the gate. But when he looked the gate looked undisturbed and the ewes seemed to be all accounted for. The next morning he did the count and noticed one missing! He quickly ran to Tigrus who had always been rather observant and told him the tale. All the while Tigrus was taking mental notes and asking questions of what he saw and heard or thought he saw and heard. Guiding his story to allow for most information.

Tigrus went to the cage and looked around, using the magnifying necklace his mother had given him when he showed an interest in it. He quickly noticed that the gate had been moved, which wouldn't have been odd if not for the fact that it looked like someone tried to hide the fact that it was opened. There were also hoof tracks that were seemingly wiped away, or at least that is what it seemed as there was dirt and grass that went horizontal to the norm.

Tigrus followed this trail with his friend slowly tagging along. It lead to the house of a young filly who was in their class and was always fond of the ewes. She had snuck out and went to see them after finishing her school work. One ewe followed, and she hid it not knowing what to do because her parents would be angry that she went out. Tigrus suggested that they both agree to never speak of it, and just correct it. That way no pony would get in trouble with their parents.

At the moment when he resolved the situation, his cutie mark appeared on his flank. His friend and classmate both eagerly congratulated him. Unfortunately the young filly's parents heard and questioned what the three of them were doing with an ewe at such an early hour.

History: Tigrus was born of two loving parents at the height of the Crystal Empire, where the great and wise queen ruled just and fair. His parents were happy to have a new born baby foal to call their own, but they soon realized that Tigrus was a handful, perhaps even more so than other foals his age. He would constantly find ways to sneak out and explore the world. He was highly curious and regularly got himself into trouble. His parents figured this was just foalhood energy and it would eventually wane with time.

This couldn't have been further from the truth. In fact as he got older he only got more inquisitive, spending time in the library as a colt. He absorbed all information he could about any number of subjects. His favorites were sciences, he loved learning about the natural world, action, reaction, cause and effect. It didn't take him long to realize that cause and effect didn't just occur in science and nature but with everything. He would do his own "experiments" figuring out how things worked and writing everything down in rolls of parchment. He was rather distant from most kids, only interacting with them at school. Everypony knew he was a little different, but they accepted him just the same, often trying to get him to play with them. Which he did during school, but not so much after. However being as inquisitive as he was, he would play his own games within his head. Many times he was called out for spacing out, but this couldn't have been further from the truth, he was studying whatever everypony was doing. Eventually deducing certain things, through understanding and observation. He wasn't the best at these games but he became very good at being at the right place at the right time. Unfortunately, he spent so much time learning the theory and how to read his friends at these games that he never improved his own skills. He didn't mind though he had fun just being in the right place even if he was always bested by other colts and fillies' agility and skills. No pony knew what he was doing and no one really payed any mind to his uncanny ability to be at the right place at the right time.

This was his life until he noticed his mother using some sort of crystal magnifying glass. It looked almost like a glass orb. Tigrus asked if he could borrow it, which she saw no real objection to. At least until she realized that she would almost never see it. He would go out and look at things under the lens and continue observing and learning. Eventually she got fed up with his constant taking of the magnifier and his lonesome nature. She told him that if he agreed to go out more with his friends and classmates she'd get him one of his own that he could wear around his neck and keep with him at all times. He promised and started playing more with his friends. And good to her word she got him the magnifying glass necklace.

Good to his word he started going out more with his friends from school. When playing competitive games he started being more active, having already learned how to read the game and even hone in on the emotions of the other players. Reading and understanding emotions was nothing special mind you, but when combined with his ability to see the minute details of how people moved, and the principles of action and reaction, he became quite the able tactician, and even player after he started being active and working on his abilities rather than his observational skills. He would often communicate what he thought was going to happen and build strategies around it. Naturally he wasn't always right, misreading a player or misjudging distance, but it was enough for other fillies and colts to take notice of his innate ability to notice the smallest of details. It was at this point that he learned that being physically fit could only benefit. He began to more carefully plan his days out his days to get in both mental and physical activities in.

This eventually made its way into his classroom. If anything went missing, he was the first pony they'd turn to, even before the teacher. With his trusty magnifying glass necklace there didn't seem to be anything he couldn't find, even the smallest marble in a dark corner or under a desk. Then the incident in which he got his cutie mark occurred, and his fate as a detective was sealed. More and more ponies came seeking his service, and eventually he got bored of the smaller things. After people told him what happened and he asked the pertinent questions, he found he was able to lead them without lifting a hoof.

There was an interesting incident where he read about the crystal palace and decided that learning first hand was better than learning from a book. So he decided to try and sneak into the palace. He made it pretty far by observing the guards and planning his route based on what he read. Unfortunately for him, even guards don't adhere to a perfect routine and he was eventually caught. Luckily the guards were rather taken by the young colt and simply let him off with a warning. Of course none of this was before they asked how he had eluded them for so long and made it so far into the palace. They laughed at how their well trained routine got the better of them, and were happy that a guard had to switch shifts at the last moment to get home to his wife, leading to the discovery of Tigrus.

As a stallion he became well known for being a pony who could solve anything, as well as being a bit eccentric. He helped whomever came to his door, but how he helped varied based on how interesting he found the situation. The more vague and mystifying the more interested he became. He would race out of his house for a case that might stump him and his keen eye. For everything else, he would most often write down instructions for the pony asking his assistance to follow. Not very often did his advice fail to solve a mystery. And when it did he went to rectify it himself. The most interesting case was that of a missing letter...

A mare approached him with a problem and told him of a letter from her parents that was somewhat of a treasure to her. More specifically it was their first letter between them that lead to the love that would be later kindled. She was obviously worried and told Tigrus everything that happened. The mare was looking through her parent's important keepsakes which was an ornate crystal case on the mantle of her home. It had been kept open while she was reminiscing. When it went missing it was just outside the box. Naturally he asked if there was a window open, and suggested she follow how wind would move paper. To no avail did this instruction help and he became curious. Upon arrival he observed some minutiae details that he didn't expect, which were tiny scratches. He followed them figuring it was a mouse. Sure enough behind some furnishings was a mouse hole and the missing parchment. It had been stolen to make a nest. There were some bits bitten off but on the whole the parchment was unharmed.

The future seemed so bright until the evil King Sombra took over. Tigrus really doesn't remember most of what had occurred aside from the King using his abilities to help him. He wasn't sure how, but he was certain that it wasn't good. Possibly finding runaways or those who plotted against the King. Either way it was something that he cares not to remember, unlike the time under the gracious queen.

After a thousand years of rest Tigrus was ready to get back to doing what he loved solving, studying, and playing sports and being otherwise active. He continued his practice of helping any pony who needed it out with anything they couldn't figure out. Whether it be a puzzle, riddle, or regular mystery that needed solving he was the one to see. Tigrus was elated to see how much science had advanced in 1000 years. And he studied the advances that were made. He still has much to learn and catch up on, but it is a challenge that this intellectual pony was willing to face in the interest of his profession.

Character Summary: To start Tigrus is at his core an inquisitive, highly logical pony. Though he'd never let anypony know that when he first meets them. He prefers to figure out what he can about a pony by looking them over, what they seemed to have done, where they came from, and naturally their cutie marks usually play a huge bit in learning about a pony. Anything he can't figure out he'll ask. Naturally he is the same when it comes to learning about a situation. He prefers trying to deduce it rather than ask, unless of course it is a situation in which he cannot see for himself, as is the case with many problems brought fourth to him. And as much as he likes reading books to learn about things, he mostly revels in learning first hand. This has gotten him into trouble. Say getting kicked out of the Crystal Palace when he was younger. He won't show off unless you ask him to though. At which point he'll just rattle off everything he noticed about a pony, which may even include what they last ate based on how their breath smells.

He is usually soft spoken and likable, if just a bit (ok very) proud, making sure to never run at the mouth, unless he is excited about something. Say for instance he figured out a puzzle and he has to tell somepony about it. He'll excitedly go off on how he solved it detailing everything about it. He'll usually do this in a grandiose fashion. He has a flair for the theatrical. If he can he'll even attempt to reenact the situation, showing the theory at work. Say for instance something got knocked away by a strange set of circumstances, he'd rather show off how it happened than merely explain it. What's the fun in simply explaining after all? Seeing is so much more fun, especially when the outcome is unexpected for the ponies around him! Naturally this does not always bode well for those that like a straight answer, as he'll lead ponies on in odd ways, even asking what they think. And then revealing the truth in an unexpected or surprising way. Though, in his defense, sometimes a straight answer doesn't show the whole story, and a creative story that connects everything as closely as possible is always preferable to a half-baked straight answer any day, at least in his mind.

On that vein, though he is well liked, some ponies don't always quite like or appreciate the way he explains things, though he finds it fun or interesting to do things in a theatrical or overdone way, some may feel that it can be a bit patronizing. Though this isn't why he does it at all. If anything it shows his sense of humor. He might even send the wrong signals on purpose to get in a joke. Though if ponies do feel bad about how he explained something he'll usually feel bad, and make a joke, if possible on himself. He'd even consider sharing the limelight if somepony says something that lead to a great revelation, possibly using them to help show off what happened or explain the events that transpired. Though that might be why ponies tend to like him, he is at the very least self aware, due in no small part to the crystal pony's connection to empathy.

Empathy is his greatest gift. Like many crystal ponies he has the uncanny ability to read emotions, however he took it one step further than most, learning how to use those emotions to get some answers that ponies might not want to give up so easily. He uses his ability to sense a pony's emotions to either lead questions to a fruitful direction, or deduce things when the answer can not be coaxed out for any reason, say embarrassment. He'll use that knowledge of feeling to figure things out, even if the pony is reluctant to tell or lying to his face, perhaps to save theirs. He is very careful to choose his words though, and tries not to seem all knowing or knowing more than he does or can. He finds that people tend to give more information when they don't think he knows as much. This he also figured out with empathy. The more calm and unsuspecting the easier ponies reveal things, either knowingly or by accident. For this purpose he might put on a ruse, a ruse of not knowing (though that is part of the reason why he doesn't say what he's figured out about a pony when he first meets them unless he is trying to show off).

His second greatest gift would be his intuition. Just deducing isn't enough, if you don't have some intuition. If he feels something is off about a situation he'll trust his instinct and investigate. Though this is particularly funny if you are sleeping over at his house, since this can and often does work against him. If he is dozing off from not sleeping, something he often does if he can't solve a problem, he'll slip into a daydream and think that something that happened there happened in the real world causing him to run about his house trying to figure out what. However events like that are not regular, and his intuition is stated as one of his greatest attributes. He uses his intuition to guide how he feels about a conclusion he has reached. This too can work against him, because if he feels there is nothing left to be learned he might start to jump at the conclusion before stopping himself when he realizes that he is missing a piece. Luckily his logical mind can kick in at some point to help his intuition get a hold of his better judgement!

Well that's enough about how he deals with other ponies and his work, what about when he's not working? Well he has severe distaste for a poorly played flugelhorn. But he does enjoy music. He prefers silence when he is working or thinking, whether it be experiments or just observing. He feels that everything is important, though he can multitask, and rather well, he prefers total concentration for certain things. Though that might include loud noises which might disturb others. He always claims that loud noises are a natural part of cause and effect, because at some point gravity will always take over and create a loud crash! He still reads as much as he can to better his knowledge to help in his profession. He always says that there is no such thing as knowing too much about any one thing that is important to you, and knowing too little is the worst crime any pony can commit to themselves if they are interested in something. Unfortunately for him, when it comes to learning he can't get enough.

He still enjoys playing sports, he is very much like a colt that way. He'll just often be found playing kickball with the colts, as practicing jousting. Unlike in his youth where he didn't quite enjoy physical activity, as he got older he realized it was a core requirement of being a detective. Though he doesn't just do it because of being a detective, but because it's fun! He'll play with ponies his own age if he can get any of them out on the field, otherwise he is quite content with playing with older colts and young stallions, and he can keep up with the best of them. Naturally he also plays games. His favorite, of course, are mystery games, particularly the "who dun it" sort of games. Occasionally he'll even organize such events! Though he also enjoys a good scavenger hunt, especially if the items are very obscurely written. The more he has to run about and figure out, the more he enjoys himself. Some people claim he is more of a colt than an older stallion, but he'd not have it any other way!

On the whole he tries to be soft spoken and proper, and always help his fellow ponyfolk with any problem that they can't figure out on their own. His pride does get in the way when getting out and about, but that doesn't mean he'll ever turn anyone away, or refuse to have a bit of fun outdoors, or in depending on the situation. A bit eccentric, and at times condescending and proud, he does his best to put his best hoof forward and make a positive impression on any pony he meets.

Hi! First off, I'd like to point out that I'm not RPHS! But I'm really really interested in helping you with your character!

It's garbage! Burn it! :3c And never let me see it again!

Ok, now it's time for the 'official' RPH evaluation, and I must say, you've gone above and beyond the required entry fields! Excellent character development, cutie mark story, and history. As you told me previously, this app is lengthy, but lengthy is OK if it stays coherent and makes sense. Well done! :D:D:D
