Recommended Posts

Roleplay Type: World of Equestria

Name: Vela Breeze

Sex: Female

Age: Younger filly

Species: Unicorn

Eye colour: Gold

Coat: Vela’s coat is thick, soft, and chocolate-brown in colour. It gets pretty scraggly considering she spends most of her time running wild on her brother’s ship, but said brother does his very best to keep his little sis well groomed and presentable! He’s successful, too! ...For the most part.

Mane/Tail: Her mane and tail are both strawberry-cream pink, and very soft and curly! Vela rarely has the time between all of her pirate-filled daydreams to brush her mane and tail, but her older brother manages to pin her down long enough every morning to brush them and even braid her mane! In the morning, she has very soft, lovely hair, but throughout the day it gets increasingly more tangled and wild.

Physique: Vela has an athletic physique, but she still retains a bit of her baby fat!

Residence: The captain’s quarters of her brother’s ship, the Swansong, which the two siblings share.

Occupation: Rambunctious filly, deck hand, Dread Pirate! Vela’s a filly, so her responsibilities in life are limited to helping out where she can aboard the Swansong and keeping up with her studies. Except she rarely keeps up with her studies. Instead she is constantly challenging her brother’s crew to swordfights, brandishing her wooden sword like a true terror of the skies! It gets her into trouble a lot, but she doesn’t mind. Pirates are supposed to get into trouble.

Cutie Mark: She doesn’t have one yet, but she’s sure it’ll be a pirate’s flag, or a treasure chest, or even a sword!

History: Vela was born to two Canterlot unicorns with a love of adventure and exploration. Though her mother is a magic instructor and her father an astronomer, they both share a love of the unknown and a passion for adrenaline-rich journeys through uncharted territories. They passed that passion down to Vela, just as they passed it down to her brother before her. Unlike her older brother, however, Vela’s love of adventure was always a little...out of control.

Before she could read, the filly’s parents told her stories of pirates and sailors and grand hunts for treasure, causing her to become...mildly obsessed. Or totally obsessed. Her first word was “pie-witt,” and her first love was her toy wooden sword. Every waking moment of her life, Vela Breeze was living the life of a pirate in her head. She started swordfights wherever she went, constantly challenging her classmates to duel with her and constantly giving her parents a headache. They loved her, they just didn’t know what to do with all that energy! Vacationing twice a year just wasn’t cutting it, Vela was a firecracker full of energy!

So imagine their relief when their son returned to Canterlot after five years abroad! And imagine Vela’s excitement at finally meeting her big brother, the fabled captain of the Swansong! Surely a captain like Cygnus Flare had to be a pirate king! When she first met him she was immediately awed by his tall, muscular figure. Then she was jealous, then she was ecstatic to just finally meet him. He didn’t look much like his pictures any more, though she supposed living aboard a ship would do that to a stallion. He looked tougher, more sure of himself, and his hair was a bit out of control.

Vela loved him instantly, and the feeling was mutual - even though he hadn’t known until that very moment that she even existed! The foal gave her brother a bonk on the head for being such a stranger to his own family, and after threatening him with a good whomping if he didn’t promise to write their parents more often she planted a huge smooch on his cheek. It was the most well-behaved her parents had seen her. Ever!

It didn’t take long for her parents to suggest Cygnus take Vela along with him on his travels. The work would be a great vent for all of her energy, and they could send him lesson plans to have her follow in order to keep up her schooling. So long as he had one of his crew stay behind to foalsit her while they had more dangerous adventures, it was the ideal set-up! Not that he had a choice! As soon as they suggested it, Vela demanded her brother comply - so he did!

She’s been enjoying life aboard the Swansong ever since! Life on a ship is hard work, and it’s rewarding. She gets to pretend she’s a pirate all day and it just feels so real in the open skies. Cygnus still hasn’t let her join in the more dangerous adventures he gets involved in off of his ship, and she’s always stuck with a foalsitter while he’s away (the crew keep little games going to help them decide who’s in charge of her for the next trip into the unknown). Even with her best efforts to sneak into his pack or just creep behind the captain and his crew, Cygnus always catches her and sends her back to the ship. It just isn’t fair!

But she knows as soon as Cygnus thinks she’s ready that he’ll let her join in the real excitement. So from time to time she is on her best behaviour.

Character Summary: Like any true pirate, Vela is fearless, dastardly, and cunning. She’s clever with her little wooden sword, quick to use it, and never gives up ‘til she gets her treasure! At least, that’s how she thinks of herself. In truth she’s just a silly foal who’s way too full of energy so she burns it all off by running around the Swansong playing out pirate scenes in her mind. That said, she loves ship life and when work needs to get done she is is always willing to lend a helping hoof. In fact, the reason Cygnus Flare’s crew has no problem with a wild filly living on their ship and getting in their way is because she is such an earnest, hard worker. Vela’s nothing if not an excellent deck hand, and she gets better and stronger each and every day!

She’s also quite skilled with illusionary magic. While she mostly disregards her studies (which exasperates her older brother to no end), the filly at least practices her magic every day. She’s so eager to see her fantasies come alive that she puts serious concentration into crafting illusions, like making Cygnus look like a real Pirate King, or summoning the image of a parrot to sit on one of the crew stallions’ shoulders.

Despite the fact that she’s a real hoof-ful, though, she is a loving sister. Her brother has the coolest job in the world, after all, and he captains his own ship. She totally idolizes Cygnus Flare and would do anything for him, even if the tough reputation she’s convinced she has demands she appear to do it begrudgingly. One thing she’s set on doing for him, too, is finding a beautiful and really strong mare to marry him! Every time she sees a viable candidate for her brother she’s always talking up how amazing he is, especially since he always seems to have a hard time talking to mares. The biggest problem there, however, is that most of her stories involving her brother are imaginary pirate tales about the Pirate King Cygnus Flare! She could tell real stories but that would be boring.
