Some say it is an Majestic ocean upon which Starships sail alongside Space Whales, other say it is a void of death and desolace. The truth is usually somewhere in between. Of course, Where any given story falls on this scales is up for question.... This story starts with a flashing red light marked "EMERGENCY OVERRIDE" flashing outside a series of glass windows on the wall... The room was dark except for faint flow of monitoring devices and a single countdown timer next to the light. When it had started was anypony's guess, but when it ended was exactly... Now. As the timer struck 0:00 a row of lights flickered to life... well a row minus one, which fizzled and went black again. The room was grey and black metal with a metal grill floor that showed various pipes, circuits and wires down below. Above the ceiling was also of the same black and grey metal. The room was lined with a dozen long and narrow 'windows' at the sides of the hallway, which was roughly 8' wide by a currently undetermined length, in the center of each group of windows lay a computer terminal, and next to each window was a small screen and below it a keypad. a new series of timers on the same wall activated and began counting down, the first window began to glow with an internal light and a purple unicorn was shown inside wearing a medium blue bodysuit with darker blue collar/cuffs and chest-fastener, upon her upper-right chest was the half-sun-half-moon mark of Equestria, surrounded by stars underneath it was written "PROGRAM E.S.P." on the pony's collar was an ID badge, which also now flashed on a small screen next to the window, Identifying her momentarily as "QUEEN TWILIGHT SPARKLE" though a large red "UPDATING" appeared on the screen and when it faded, her name on screen and on her badge now read "CAPTAIN TWILIGHT SPARKLE" The chamber began to fill with a slightly blue tinted gas and the window began frosting as the temperature inside was equalized with that on the outside the nearby monitors showed erratic vital signs but quickly stabilized, though they were no longer rythmatic, as Twilight began to awaken from the Cryosleep . After a moment the window flipped down and the small 'bed' slid out, Twilight would slowly find herself awakening from the cold slumber... Nearby another chamber began hissing as its occupant was awoken as well... But ominously, on the other side of the hallway were several flashing red warning lights next to the capsules..., one of which was next to a capsule who's occupant was listed as "Armorer and Weapons Specialist Lt. She looked around as she moved her head up to see the room she was, seeing all the other 'windows' in there. She looked at herself, noticing she still had that fancy suit. She remembered having it on before she fell asleep. She then looked at her ID tag. It said... Captain Twilight Sparkle? If she rembered correctly it said Queen, not Captain, but she was not sure. She tried to get off where she was, but as soon as she stood up she stumbled snd feelt sick. She remembered reading about this, it sometimes happends after cryosleep. Her body and mind had to get used to be back to work. She coughed a bit and noticed another one was opening. She slowly walked towards is, stumbling a little since she had to get used to walk again. Ashton Posted June 12, 2015 Author Report Share Posted June 12, 2015 The mist cleared as a little green and purple dragon yahned, stretching "best sleep I've had in years" he said "...wait... twilight? where are we?" he asked stupidly "Oh great, what spell did you fail _this_ time?" Looking at Rainbow's capsule, Twilight might notice the display that indicated tehre had been a malfunction and that the subject within was at risk of neural damage, mostly likely Narcissism, delusions of greatness, inability to maintain attention, difficulty sitting still, and narcolepsy (though there was still a "RELEASE" option on the controls) "whatcha lookin' at, twi?" asked Spike as he slid off the cryobed, which retracted into the tube "hey, wow, when did we get uniforms?" he asked Nearby there was one other cryochamber, but it appeared to be empty. Presumably they were all housed in groups of four. Of course it might make one wonder why exactly Twilight, Dash, and Spike were grouped together... I woke up in another of this beds..." she started explaining. For what it looks they seem to be some sort of... cryochambers? I read about them is science fiction novels." She said as she took a closer look to them.She noticed the neural risk damage that had Rainbow, but after reading everything... it just sounded like her comoletely. She then noticed the release option and activated it. She wanted answers and perhaps with the help of her friend they would be able to sort things out. She then remembered Spike's question about the uniform. "Oh, the uniforms..." she looked at it. It was really odd. " ... I don't know, I woke up like this." She explained. Ashton Posted June 12, 2015 Author Report Share Posted June 12, 2015 Spike blinked "so does that mean we got dressed in our sleep... or that somone else dressed us while we were asleep?" he sounded a little disturbed and a little creeped out. When twilight activated the release there was a hiss of gas as the chamber fogged up a speaker somewhere overhead began to blare "WARNING POWER AT CRITI-*crackle*" and then it went dead. The already dim lighting faded out completely and the console ont he capsule flickered but after a moment it hissed open and unceremoniously dumped the sky-blue pegasus out "...is she dead?" asked Spike, gently poking her Dash groaned "did anypony get the name of that icecream wagon that hit me..." she asid, sitting up and wrapping her wings around herself "it's freezing here... where is here anyway?" she looked at the other pony "jsut what spell did you botch this time, egghead?" she asked, though there wasn't much venom in it at least... She understood why he felt disturbed, all this was auite weird. Out of nowhere Twilight heard a speaker making a loud noise saying that power was crit- critical perhaps? But then gasped a bit as soon as it went dead and the light went down. "W-what is going on?" She asked, creeped out, as she gave a step back. She then noticed that the chamber opened and saw Rainbow in it, then saw her groaning and moving. "Oh, thanks Celestia you are okay." She said feeling better, but then heard about the spell part, sighing. Another one saying about a failed spell. "I... don't know how we got here." Twi staryed saying. "I'm as confused as you." Ashton Posted June 12, 2015 Author Report Share Posted June 12, 2015 Rainbow staggered to ehr feet and managed a slightly strained smile - clearly still sore "dont worry, egghead, I'm sure between the two of us we can figure it out" she said, putting her wing around Twi, at first seeming an oddly affectionate move fore dash, but then twilight wodl feel how cold the mare was, obviously this was part of the 'malfunction' in her cryochamber... Spike snickered at the two "maybe we better see if we can get you two a private room and a bottle of wine" he teased "I dont know about that, but a sandwich would be great right now" said dash, noticing for perhaps the first timet hat they didn't have any supplies.. What an idd nove coming from her, but the noticed it was really cold, but why? It must had been connected to the maldunction of the cryochamber. Twilight then heard Spike say that. "Spike!" She said a bit embarrased just after he finished, but soon calmed down. She then hears that Rainbow wanted a sandwich. She shrugged. Ashton Posted June 12, 2015 Author Report Share Posted June 12, 2015 Spike snickered, he liked teasing twlight, thought it was always in good humor "yeah, I agree with rainbow, I feel like I've not eatedn in weeks!" he said, unaware just how accurate his statement really was... Dash shook her head and nodded "yeah... what is with this place? al I see is metal and screens and wires and junk, not even a window... and these lights are too dim, where's the light switch?" she asked, completely unaware what was going on... if they tried to leave they would find the door without any handle, and magic didn't move it either, though there was a pannel next to it with the imprint of a hood on it... next to it was what at first looked like a large mirror, though it seemed oddly dark, possibly a two-way mirror so whoever was on the other side could watch those inside... something that only raised even mroe questions about where they were... Twi then said to Rainbow. "I also woke up and have no idea where we are." She said, but then she saw a door and waht looked like a some sort of mechanism beside it. She notuced that the door had no handle, then tried using magic to open it... nothing. It was still closed. "What is this...?" She asked, then remembered the mechanism and it looked like it had a hoof print in it. Pergaps is she putted her hoof in there? But why would it work? Well, just one way to find out. Ashton Posted June 12, 2015 Author Report Share Posted June 12, 2015 When she put her hoof on the pannel, the lights completely failed, including the one on the hoof-reader, but the door hissed and opened... about halfway... though if they were careful they coudl squeeze through... outside the halls were just as dark and grimey, with the overhead lights flickering, occasionally something sparked overhead or under the metal-grille floor... "wow... this place sure is run down" said spike "...yeah..." said Rainbow "I have a sinking feeling it's going to be a while before I get that sandwich..." she gulped, looking at the dark hallways, one end completely black except for occasional sparks... She said as she squeezed trought he door carefully, trying not to harm her wings. Once in the other side, Twilight used a light spell to iluminate the area so tbey could see where they were walking. As she did that, a light purpe light came from her horn, then looked back to see if the ithers were also coming. Spike surly would fit easily, but she hooed Rainbow aslo managed to get trought. Spike just walked on through the door no different than if it had been fully open... "So what's going on? You think there's a power outage?" asked spike "I might be able to help with that, I can whip up some lightning clouds if I can get outside" offered Dash as they were speaking there was a sound like an unearly shriek from down the dark passage way and the sound of metal scraping on metal, slowly, headed, their way...... Spike gulped "Up, Twi, I think we might want to run, whatever that is, it does NOT sound friendly" Dash said nothing, not wanting to scare them further since she herself was also terrified, but she also was not going to run unless they were... after all she was loyalty and she would never leave ehr friends hanging! She said, then turned to Spike. "Is highly likely that it was that." She said to him "Alright everypony, follow m-" she was interupted by the soumd if metal. It slowly terrified her, but she knew it also did to the others. "You are right, lets go!" Twilight said as she started running away from the metal sound. Whatever it was, she didn't wanted to know. Ashton Posted June 13, 2015 Author Report Share Posted June 13, 2015 There was a angry sounding buzzer and the lights dimmed. apparently she wasn't authorized to open the door by herself... and given the faint glow the lights had now, it would quickly be out of power and they'd never get it open... "Well that didn't do much" said Spike "unless you were trying to dim the lights, if you were, you did that well" Rainbow rolled her eyes "I'd like to see you do better" she said "come on twi, your the smart one, I'm sure you can figure this out, I'm with you, I'd like somethign to fight off... whatever that was we almsot ran into" she admitted, not outright saying she was scare but also making it clear she was unsure if her abilities coudl face it... of course any sane mare woudl be terrified in this situation, so the fact that dash was not more scared was a slight miracle in and of itself... If she remembered correctly, her ID badge said captain... wait, think Twilight, think. If she bad one, did Rainbow also had one? Twilight turned to Rainbow. "Rainbow, tell me, by any chance, do you have ine like this..." she showed her ID badge. "On you?" She asked her. "Maybe, if you have it, you might be authorized to open this door," she suggested, hoping she was right, but still finding odd that as captain she didn't had access to the door. Ashton Posted June 13, 2015 Author Report Share Posted June 13, 2015 Dash shrugged "it's kidna sewn into our uniform so, yeah" she said, walkign over and placing her hoof on the door pannel The light turned green as the door began to rise "Welcome Special Weapons o.f.f.i.c.e..r.. ..r...a...i...n....b...." the computerized voice gave out, and the door froze a few inches above the ground, the lights going out ont he console, and the hall lights dimming a moment but returning to their prior, if still very dim, state... "well that was dissapointing" said Dash "I can get in to all the cool weapons, but I cant get into all the cool weapons!" she snorted and turned and kicked the door, less than gently but that too hard. when she did there was the sound of a box falling off a shelf inside and it sounded like movement, but it wasn't too clear and Dash didn't seem to notice it. Spike cocked his head and looked at hte door, clearly he HAD heard it, but if the others didn't say anything about it he wasn't going to either. Rainbow had access to this area, but her smile soon disappeared as soon as the door just opened a little. "Oh, so close!" She said, both disdapointed and a bit angry. She looked at Rainbow as she kicked the door, thinking what to do, but then heard something from inside. It sounded like... something falling down."Did you guys heard that?" Ashton Posted June 13, 2015 Author Report Share Posted June 13, 2015 ((btw, kudos on picking up on dash being the armorer, I only mentioned it once or twice --- and the reason she's authorized but not twilight is that, in theory, the armorer has been extensively trained in usage, storage, and maintenance of all the weapons in their care, while the captain might know how to fire them and how dangerous they are.... sometimes not even that... so the captain would not be allowed into the armory without the armorer present)) "Hear what?" asked Dash Spike climbed down adn looked under the door "there's some light in there... I dont see much, mostly boxes" "hey, cant you unicorns use your magic to move things you cant see? maybe one of those boxes has an XS-473 in it, or at least a Las Knife" said dash, not reaizing at first that she somehow knew these things despite having no clue what they were in the past... but then given the fact that twilight wa also vaguely aware of some fo the things, like what the cryosleep chambers were, it was shown to reason that perhaps the chambers had some kind of learning program that ran while their occupants were asleep... (which spoke volumes about how well it worked with Dash's difficulty in memorization!) though even know Twilight didn't know what those weapons were except one was some kind of gun and the other was, as dash had said, a laser-knife... What the hell did she just said? XS-473 or a Las Knife? The second one sounded like a laser knife or something, but what the hell was the first one? And how did she knew that?! Twi sighed, as her horn glowed to see if she could bring a box of weapons beneath the door, or the weapon itself. "By the way Rainbow..." Twi said as she used the spell. Ashton Posted June 13, 2015 Author Report Share Posted June 13, 2015 As soon as the box moved, it's contents moved, there was a flash of gleaming black scales as something leapt out of the box and ran across the room in the darkness, from that darkness a pair of very dangerous looking, non-sentient, serpentine eyes faced twilight... "what? the XS-473 is standard issue, it's a nice mid-range weapon, not too powerful being single-hoof but it has a larger magazine than the XF-731 that is more common, despite each round using more of the charge" she explained Spike blinked "hey twilight, am I the only one who's a little worried" he made a less-than-inconspicuous nod at rainbow Dash frowned "well sorry if I'm boring you" she snarked Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Twiight started saying, but those eyes that were staring at her tjat creeped her out, but soon calmed down, trying not to startle what ever that thing was.
