It was a calm and sunny day, which was a little odd since the weather report called for some rain this afternoon and there was not a single cloud in the sky, but then for some reason the weather had been slightly off-schedule the last couple weeks... Spike didn't think too much about it though...

 

The birds were singing as they nested in the branches of the trees, a rare occurance since regular visits from Twilight's flying friends tended to scare them off... Spike didn't think too much about it though...

 

The sleepy dragon glanced about the impeccable library, it had been a long time since he had to clean up all the books when a pegasus' crash-entrance knocked every. last. one. from the shelves... Spike didn't think too much about it though...

 

The little dragon headed to the kitchen and pulled out a coffee pot, though the coffee maker was in the corner gathering dust... he filled it with water and took a deep breath and with a blast of green fire the pot was now filled with boiling water (and slightly scorched, but he'd scrub that off later) he took the coffee and tied it up int he filter and proceeded to bob it up and down for a short time boredly as he let twilight sleep, it was rare for the mare to sleep in, but no doubt she had a long night in her lab or something... after a while, spike pulled the 'bag' of coffee out and tossed it int he trash, pouring a mug of coffee for himself and twilight, adding a little milk and a few mushrooms in lieu of sugar. It was a strange quirk of the dragon, but it worked well enough...

 

As he was placing them on the table, there was what seemed to be a knock at the door

 

"It's open!" called spike

 

There was another knock

 

Spike raised a brow

 

And this time the creaking of the mailslot as several rather bent letter were slid through the slot

 

"shoulda known" said spike as he padded over and picked up the mail "Bill... bill... Playdrake Renewal notice... gotta hide that one" he said, as he made the notice vanish in a flash of flame - he'd pay it later when Twilight was too busy to ask him what he was doing... "Plants and Ponies Issue 721..." he walked over and set it on the shelf "Popular Hooftronics..." placed it ont he shelf "and... a letter from Rainbow Dash?" he paused "hey she has been gone a while hasn't she..." he frowned a little since it was addressed to 'Twilight Sparkle' without mention of him, he noted the odd address though, instead of 20 Cloud Lane like normal, it was sent from a Hotel in Las Pegasus... suspicious but he seemed to recall Dash saying something about a convention she was going to... something about weather... sounded boring to spike...

 

"TWILIGHT!" he called "HEY TWILIGHT! YOU GOT A LETTER!" he carried the letter and the cups of coffee up the stairs "IT'S FROM YOUR FAVORITE ACCIDENT-PRONE FEATHERBRAIN!" he said, clearly a little annoyed at dash still, though he obviously didn't have any venom in the insult "TWILIGHT! YOUR MAKING ME LOOK EASY TO WAKE UP!" he frowned as he stood in the doorway and glared at ehr bed, the light reflecting off his catlike eyes almost ominously... of course given how cranky he was in the mornings it wasn't entirely inappropriate...

 

Twilight grumbled a bit and rubbed her head as she woke up. She'd always told Spike that if he was so cranky in the morning he may as well just sleep in. Then again, that was when she was usually up long before him. She heaves herself out of bed, right-hoof side as always, and heads to the mirror to begin her routine. It was about time Dash had sent this letter. She'd been expecting it some time ago, and continuously planning and replanning around its pending arrival had made her daily schedules much more erratic than she ever liked them to be.

 

"Go ahead and read it, Spike." She wasn't going to interrupt her morning just to read a letter. That was what Spike was there for, after all. She magicked her brush over and ran it through her mane, twice forward, down the neck, three over the tail, then the toothbrush...

 

 

Spike rolled his eyes "Hi twilight, blah blah blah I'm awesome, blah blah blah, signed Dash" he said, not opening the letter "what? you know that's what it's going to say" but as he was talking he did open and unfold the letter, he cleared his throat

 

"Hey Egghead" he rolled his eyes "well that's not very nice" he continued though "Really digging the weatherpony convention, there's so much awesome stuff here! I learned some cool new tricks I'm gonna try when I get home - and some stuff for the weather service too. Made some friends and going to hit the casinos tonight, Should be home in two days."Spike paused just a moment and smirked "With all my eternal love for you, Rainbow 'your mare' Dash" though it was evident from the change in tone and the look on Spike's face that he made that last part up as a bad joke, even placing the letter on Twilight's dresser so she could see it. Of course the OCD Unicourn was very likely to also notice the postmark, which said the letter was mailed two weeks ago!

Twilight listens closely, shooting Spike a stern look as he closes the letter with his joke just as she finishes her morning hygiene. She levitates herself a cup of coffee, as well as a bowl of assorted fruits from the kitchen as she takes a seat at the living room table.

 

"All that waiting for such an uneventful letter? Well, I guess at least it's not something crazy." She giggles a bit as she begins to eat. "I half expected her to get into some kind of trouble down there, forcing us all to abandon everything we're doing and hurry over for some big adventure! Nice to hear she's finally enjoying that convention-"

 

She blinks, her chewing stopping mid-bite. "...Spike, she left for the convention... 16 days ago, right? And she didn't leave early, because we all had to help her pack after she overslept, or she'd miss the opening Wonderbolts show." She gets up and paces a bit. "No convention lasts this long, this letter should mention something about it ending at least." Her horn glows and the letter zips from her dresser to her eyes, and she looks over each letter very carefully.

 

"...

...

Spike, we have a problem."

 

 

Spike blinked "We do?" he asked "Are we out of milk?" he smirked "I mean sure the weather's been kinda messed up but really, it's nice and calm with no random crashes or rainbooms or..." he paused, finally, FINALLY, thinking about everything, thinking about really how _strange_ it was for ponyville and how nothing felt quite right the whole time she was gone... for all the trouble spike saw dash as causing, she really was an integral part of the town, and of his and Twilight's lives "...your right, I guess we have to go save her?" he asked nervously, tapping the marshmallow in his coffee, making it sink down below the liquid, then bob back to the surface - a cute little nervous mannerism of his that he displayed around twilight. Whether he was purposefully trying to be cute, trying to distract her just-a-little, or it was genuinely a nervous tick of his was not clear...

 

 

 

Twilight's face grows stern and determined, levitating over a quill and two rolls of paper and immediately beginning to write, speaking as she does. "This afternoon, we all head to Las Pegasus. Go get the others and tell them what's wrong, I need to draft letters to the Princess and Dash. Be ready to send them off when you get back."

 

 

Spike nodded "You can count on me!" he said as he turned and ran out the door as fast as his chubby legs coudl carry him...

 

"hoooooooo" said OWlicious sadly, covering his face with his wing, clearly saying 'I cant beleive you just sent him to do that unattended'

It wasn't long before the whole group was there, minus their one member.

Fluttershy and Applejack where the last ones in there, mostly because they had delayed back because Fluttershy needed to find somepony to take care of her little critters.

 

"Ah told ya Fluttershy, Ahm sure that she will do ah fine job." Applejack said to Fluttershy as they arrived to where everypony else was.

 

"Uhhmm... sure? Well, I want to make sure that they don't have any problems with them and..."

 

"Don't ya worry 'bout that, ahm, tell ya what, when we come back, if all o' them are fine, Ah will give you a bag o' apples jus' for them." Applejack added, placing a hoof around Fluttershy, calming her down.

 

"You will do that for me? Thank you." She said, felling a bit better, then both turned to everypony else.

 

"So, what is the problem?" AJ asked them. "Ah guess it has t' do with Rainbow, isn't it?" She added.

 

Fluttershy felt worried bout her. They hadn't seen her for quite some time,

Twilight looks over her three friends (plus Spike), having finished preparing to give her explanation of the situation some time ago. "Hold on, where is Pinkie?? Spike, didn't you tell her to get ready and come here before all the others?" She knows that Sugarcube corner is closest to the library, after all.

 

Before he can answer however, a very familiar voice rings out from Twilight's kitchen. "I know, right? What could be taking her so long?" The pink pony walks into the living room carrying a carefully prepared picnic basket, finishing off half of a sandwich that apparently came from inside. "Doesn't she know that our very best friend Rainbow Dash is missing??"

 

Twilight groans and places a hoof to her face. "Okay, now that you're all here I have some very concerning news! Rainbow Dash is-..." She then realizes that the announcement has no meaning after Pinkie already said it.

[Ashton]

Rarity looked concerned "Dahling, you really shouldn't talk with your mouth full, it sounded almost like you said that Rainbow was Missing"

 

"she did" said Spike, suprisingly serious despite being around rarity

 

"Good heavens!" exclaimed the white mare "Do we know what happened? Are we sure she didn't just go to a race and forget to tell us?" though it sounded liek a rather flimsy excuse, at the same time, it was clear that even if tehy had some differences, well, a LOT of differences, Rarity did care a lot for her friend "What can I do? Just please try not to make it too dirty, I just had my coat whitened" she smiled a slightly awkward smile

Fluttershy gasoed acter hearing the news. Rainbow... missing... no...

"A-are you sure?" She said shyly, clearly worried about her friend. "Are you sure she has gone missig?" She hugged Applejack out of sadness.

"Don't ya worry, sugarcube. Ah know she is fine." AJ said to Fluttershy, trying to make her feel better. It was obvious Fluttershy woyld feel so bad, Rainbow was her closets and oldest friend.

"So, y'all have any ideas o' why she has gon' missing?" AJ said to her friends after a moment. "We must do something 'bout it."

Twilight clears her throat. It certainly wouldn't do anypony any good to start panicking. "By strictest definition, she is most definitely missing. She's been out weeks longer than expected, and there's no reasonable explanation! What we don't know is if she's in danger, or just took an extended vacation in Las Pegasus. But something suspicious is certainly going on."

Pinkie leans in overeagerly while Twilight levitates the letter she'd gotten toward them, fully unfolded.

"Exhibit A, I just today received this letter from Rainbow Dash stating that she would be back in two days. However, it was sent two weeks ago! If we assume that Dash didn't account for the letter taking so long to get here, then our friend has been missing for over ten days!"

Applejack managed to calm down Fluttershy.

"So, she hasn't came back." Fluttershy said, a bit better. "And she is in no danger." She sighed. "That is good to know."

"Well, we must do somethin'." AJ said, then looked the letter that Twilight took out and listened closely what she said about it. "So she was supposed t' come back ah few days ago." AJ started sayig. "But hadn't been here for 10 days." She said as she thought all this. What happened to her. "Is ther' anything else in it?" She then asked.

[Ashton]

"So, let me get this traight" said spike "Rainbow's missing and we're all standing around discussing it when for all we know she's trapped under a collapsed pipe in the sewers of las-pegasus only surviving by eating rats - which she is probably running out of by now - instead of going and saving her?"

 

Rarity jsut stared at spike for his rather upsetting suggestion of what happened... "Dahling, you read far too many comic books... I hope..." she added the last part quietly

Pinkie Pie collapses in tears. "Rainbow Dash whyyy?? Why did you eat the rats instead of learning their language and gathering together a loyal following, to help chew through the pipe with their strong-as-steel chompers??"

 

Unfortunately for Applejack, reading the letter would have to wait as Twilight frustratedly rolls it up and bops both Pinkie and Spike with it.

"We have to work out what information we have before we take any action! I mean, we could probably have this discussion on the train to Las Pegasus, but there's still one important thing we need to work out first."

She clears her throat and looks over the letter again. "Have any of you gotten any letters from Rainbow Dash since she left? It's a bit unlikely her only letter to Ponyville about her trip would be to me, and none to the rest of you. Have you all checked your mail this morning? We might even want to check the Post Office before we leave, to see if we can find a hint as to why the letter took so long to arrive in the first place, which might also be a hint towards finding out what happened to Dash!"

Twilight is certainly feeling extra verbose today, she's feeling the stress of the situation as much as anypony.

Applejack sighed after seeing how both Pinkie and Spike reacted and said, then turned to Twilight. "That might be a good idea." She said calmly to her friend. "Ah don't remember gettin' a letter from her." She then said as she remembered. "But goin' to the post office is a goo idea." She then said, making a small smile. "They might know if she sen' us another letter."

 

Fluttershy nodded, still felling a bit sad about all this. "Yes, that might be a good idea." She sad, shy as always.

"Pinkie, do you really think Dash would have the patience to do that?" asked spike "I mean sure fluttershy could do it, but rainbow? really?" he glanced over at fluttershy with the tiniest nervous look, but shook it off, surely she wasn't really amassing a rodent army to take over equestria and rule it as the Rat Queen... but then they DID always say to beware the quiet ones...

 

Rarity blinked at pinkie's outburst, looking suprised and confused as usual, but not _too_ suprised or confused since this was rather normal for hte pink mare "I do suppose the mailmare might know something, but it's a long way between ponyville and Las PEgasus, I would think there woudl be several mares, dahling" said rarity, wondering if twilight was planning to back-trace every one of them untill they found whatever caused the delay in the letter...

"Well, is better than anything." AJ said shrugging after the idea was suggested. "Another place t' start." She then looked down. "Ah jus' hope we find her." She said, clearly worried about her friend.

 

Fluttershy looked at Spike as he looked at her. W~why is he looking at me like that? Why? "I-I..." She was to startled to talk after what they said about she doing what pinkie said Dash should have done. Wait, why am I thinking all this. I mean... I... Ahhh! Flttershy shook her head, trying to get those ideas out of her head.

Pinkie gives a high pitched little scoff at Spike. "Hey, you're the one saying she ate them. If anything, they'd eat her first-TWILIGHT WE HAVE TO GO BEFORE DASH GETS EATEN!!"

 

Twilight rolls her eyes. "Well, no use waiting around. Spike, go with Pinkie and Fluttershy to the train station and get six tickets to Las Pegasus. Applejack, Rarity and I will do a quick investigation of the post office. We can't check them all, but this one's right here.

 

Ready girls?"

Applejack nodded, smiling as she moved her hat to it's correct position. "Sure thing sugarcube, ahm ready t' go." She said as she walked to her side, showing she was ready as she said.

 

Fluttershy just nodded shyly. "yes, I-I'm ready." She said making a soft smile as she got ready to leave to the train station.

[Ashton]

Spike nodded "Sure thing, that'll be easy" he said "oh, I'm gonna need some bits for them though" he headpanned, holding out his clawed hand

 

Rarity had the tiniest smile of amusement at spike almsot rushing off without any money, but she quickly returned to the issue at hand "yes, that woudl be a great idea, but I also need to get packed, that dreadfull heat, and all those eyes, I simply _must_ look my best, and it will take me time to get everything organized, and..."

 

Spike had to bite his tongue to not try and back rarity up, but finally said "maybe we hsould go talk to the postmare while the others get ready for the trip" said Spike "I can always order the tickets with my flame" he said, pulling out a quill and paper and writing out an order for six -six! yes! he was actually going!- tickets to Las Pegasus "still need the bits though..." he added

Twilight gets a set of goods she'd prepared for herself, including a bag of bits, and gives Spike twelve for the tickets, along with two identical-looking rolled up letters. "Spike, didn't I tell you to let the others know we'd be leaving? Oh, and while you're sending letters, this one needs to go to the Princess to let her know where we're going, and this one is for Dash, so she knows we're coming."

 

Pinkie grins, holding up her large picnic basket. "I'm all set already~!" The basket is already half-emptied.

"Well, ah already pack'd up. Ya know, after all we do, ah felt lik' doin' it first." Aj said smiling as she pulled a saddlebag with things she might need when they go out. "So ahm ready t' go."

Fluttershy nodded. "I-I'm going to pack my stuff then, I will see you in tje train station when I'm finished." She said as she walked out and went to her house to pack her stuff.

[Ashton]

"Right!" said Spike as he took the two scrolls "wait... which one went to the princess?"

 

the failiar owl roleld his eyes "Hoo! Hoo!"

 

"Hey! I'd like you to be able to tell the difference!" said spike as he took one and flashed it away, unfortunately, it turns out that it wasn't an insult, as a book that was poorly balanced fell on spike's head. the dragon let out a cry of pair, fueling the fire, and making the second scroll vanish too...

 

he gulped, though realizing Twilight was talking to the others, decided not to say anything, after all, he got the important one sent!

 

Rarity smiled "thank you dahlings, I'll see you at the station!" she said as she trotted out, smiling, but quickly looking very worried... of course wheather she was worried about what to pack, or worried about the fate of Rainbow, was up for question...

"Oookay then." Twilight says as the plan already begins falling apart. "Fluttershy and Rarity, still packing... Tickets will be ready when we get to the station, hopefully... That means Applejack, Spike, and I will to the post office and Pinkie... Just go to the station and make sure they got the message."

Pinkie salutes and zips off, while the three ready persons depart for the post office!

Fluttershy went to her house to get her stuff. She did it rather quickly and went to the train station after a few minutes, caring a single suit case in her back, then pulling her.

 

Applejack nodded and followed Twilight to the post office.

Spike climbed on Twilight's back "Do I need to buckle up?" he snarked, though he was smiling - it was a good natured joke... well mostly...

The joke flies over Twilight's head, did seatbelts even exist in Equestria? They go to the post office.

Applejack limited herself to follow them to the post office after Spike said that...joke.

((actually in several scenes, as a gag, spike somehow does manage to 'buckle up' after he climbs on Twilight's back...))

 

"wow... tough crowd..." said Spike "maybe I need to get some new material..."
