History:

Midnight was born at the time of her namesake one stormy Nightmare Night. Her parents, Welding Mask and Dust Mask (maiden name Dust Buster) loved their daughter and wanted to share their family business with her, buying & fixing up places no pony would want and turning them into dream homes. Midnight moved from place to place, based on what her parents were currently renovating. Midnight had learned how to make a door frame before she ever learned how to make a friend. Midnight was weird, quiet, and had a disturbing laugh, and even when she did make friends, she often lost them as soon as the next move took place.

Mid's first few Nightmare Nights were not particularly fun for her. Dressed as Princesses and Breezies, the candy was nice, but there were scary things everywhere. Worse, she had no friends to go with, which made her feel like the loneliest filly in the world.

Mid's first real break had been in Baltimare. Her parents had bought a particularly hard to flip house. Consistent moans and creakings and mysterious oozing walls had made it a nightmare to renovate, which meant Midnight finally had some time to make friends with a few local fillies. They were really big sports fans, so they decided to all go as various sports stars when Nightmare Night came up. Midnight Mask had wanted to be the goalie for their hockey team, but her mother insisted she dress up as a bunny instead.

Despite breaking from a theme, they had a fun Nightmare Night, getting candy, running from scary costumes, but it all turned bad when a group of older kids scared them senseless and stole their candy. Midnight ran home in tears and hid in the basement, not wanting to talk to her parents. Crying in the dark, scared, angry, sick of losing all her friends, she screamed when she saw a ghostly face! No. It was the hockey mask she had worked on earlier for her costume. When she realized how scary it looked in the dark, she realized that Nightmare Night wasn't over just yet.

When Midnight Mask returned to where the bullies had been sorting their stash of ill gotten candies, they barely saw her at first, a passing shadow, a chattering in the darkness, a glint of metal. Roaring out of the dark in her dad's coveralls (using paint buckets for stilts) and wielding a whirring saw (with tin foil rather than a blade), the bullies ran from the terrifying pony in the hockey mask. The bravest among them stayed behind to uncover her trick, but when the mask came off, Midnight's insane laughter in her bunny costume was enough to send the last of them packing.

Bringing back the candy was almost as much an ordeal as recovering it, as her friends began to run from her the moment she spotted them, chasing them into an alley, leaving them both quaking in fear before she finally revealed herself. As they both felt relief, laughing off the event, Midnight Mask's cutie mark appeared.

When she finally got home, her parents were furious with her for taking off, but the appearance of her cutie mark let her off the hook.

Midnight Mask continued to learn about fear and practice her craft as they moved from town to town. Playing scary pranks, making spooky masks and costumes, and reading up on anything she could find about ghosts, ghouls, and things that go bump in the night, she finally left home and returned to the Baltimare home her parents had never managed to sell.

That Nightmare Night, Midnight Mask ran what was perhaps the scariest haunt in all of Baltimare. But not all of Equestria. As time moves forward, Midnight Mask works year round to find more frights to pack into her house of horrors.

Character Summary:

Midnight Mask has a love for all things spooky. While she realizes not every pony shares her love of darkness, ghosts, and ghoulish fun, she often has a hard time not scaring other ponies, even when she doesn't mean to! While she may pull a few pranks here and there, she tries not to go too far, pulling off the mask and offering candy in it's place when things go wrong.

Midnight Mask has worked for years to become a master in the 'Art of Fear'. Whether it's sneaking up in a costume in the middle of the night or telling a spooky ghost story, if it's about the scare, there's a chance Midnight Mask is good at it, or attempting to learn to be better. In light of that, she is constantly tinkering around with making new masks and props to scare ponies with, and is willing to go the extra mile to get the job done. Whether it means snapping pictures of timber wolves, visiting haunted ruins, or grabbing up supposedly cursed artifacts, Midnight will go to extreme lengths to improve her scaring ability. This doesn't always go well, but often provides some spooky adventures.

When dialing back from her fear based antics, Midnight Mask has a high amount of respect for other artisan and performer ponies. She's always willing to lend a hoof if someone needs a special effect for a performance or just the right mask (though it may end up being a bit on the spooky side if a pony isn't being specific).

When relaxing, Midnight Mask likes to drink tea, listen to some eerie music, and let the wind blow through the cobwebs of her home.

Hello!  Friendly neighborhood RP helper Rackenhammer here to guide you through the app process.

You know, this is a really well done character!  Aside from the odd spelling of "young philly," I'd say Midnight Mask here is ready for prime time!  I'll pass it along for final approval.
