History:

“There is a hero in every pony- the trick is bringing them out.”- Emblazoned Charge

Before Sombra, above all else, Emblazoned Charge remembered the jousts. Armored crystal ponies would tilt lances and charge, crashing with great force, the loser often sent flying. It was brutal, exciting, and glorious! The ponies who engaged in it often seemed larger than life, invincible, heroes even.

Upon the playground, he was not alone when imagining being a knight. In fact, many young colts & fillys spent hours playing knight and practicing for the real thing, toy lances bending harmlessly in great games of imaginary glory or quests to save the Empire. But many a young pony, upon gaining their cutie marks, turned away from it, their fate sealed to be many things, but not a knight. In particular was one young pony named Sodalite Shears, son of a simple shepherd pony, who wanted to be a knight as much as any pony, but having already gained his cutie mark, a pair of crystal shears, lost heart. A few of the other colts from military and noble backgrounds had begun to mock him in his efforts, until he withdrew from the sport in shame.

But Emblazoned Charge saw no reason why any pony, under the right circumstances, couldn’t be a knight? After all, cutie mark or no, every pony had to do things that had nothing to do with their special destiny, and sometimes, a pony had to do what a pony had to do! Every pony could be a hero, if they just believed in themselves. And if their old cutie mark wasn’t helping, then they needed a new one!

Studying the cutie marks of the great warriors of the Crystal Empire, Emblazoned Charge combined and rebuilt them, incorporating Sodalite Shears own cutie mark and family background, until he had a true work of art. Painting it onto a toy shield, he gave it to Sodalite Shears with a long pep talk. As his rivals took up lance, Sodalite Shears bested them each. [Later in life, despite ‘only’ being a reserve member, Sodalite Shears would go on to military fame for inventing the “Shearing Charge” formation]. It was at this time Emblazoned Charge gained his own cutie mark, a 4 cornered shield bearing a crossed paintbrush and lance.

As he grew older, pursuing knighthood in his own right, the art of the lance, and the art of heraldry in particular, Emblazoned Charge’s crests became very popular, getting requests from knights young and old. Slowly, he became inundated with creating heraldry less to inspire, but as a fashion statement, no longer raising up those ponies in need of courage. Star struck by the fame of legendary knights and jousters, distracted by bits, Emblazoned Charge lost his way. And it was during this fall in his character, that Sombra came. And while Emblazoned Charge cried out for the bravery of ponies, for those knights inside, it was too late. Darkness, slavery, and a curse came.

Wandering and aimless like his crystal kin, it was the games that brought back the most to him. Watching as that blue pegasi tossed around the poor yellow one, Emblazoned's memories echoed of a time when he had helped his fellow foals to see the best inside themselves, to be more than they thought they could be.

And when the Crystal Heart was found, and his true memories returned, he wept in joy and defeat. He did not know whether or not one more brave pony could have prevented a thousand year curse or the rise of a despot, but he knew in his heart that it was a chance he would never take again! There was untapped bravery and nobility in every pony, nay, every creature in Equestria, and he would be there to unlock it, and bring about a new generation of heroes from every corner of the kingdom!

Character Summary:

Emblazoned is a jouster, a knight, and an artist, but more than any of that, he seeks to enable even the meekest and most uncertain of ponies to see that they can be a hero, whether in big ways or small. He looks down on no one, for he has seen the mighty laid low; he begrudges no one, for he has fallen before; he hates no one, for hate only empowers the wicked, while courage, love, and kindness feed the strong. Ultimately, right makes might, not the other way around.

Less poetically, he seeks to travel all over Equestria to raise a new order of knights and jousters. The Crystal Empire was saved twice by outsiders, and to see that it never falls again, the Empire cannot simply isolate itself from the outside world. Ideally, ponies and other creatures would join together in some new organization or knighthood, but even convincing them to participate in the Crystal Empire's jousting tourneys would be worthwhile.

As heroism and it's cultivation are his core, he is always willing to go on an adventure, especially with ponies who feel some self doubt, that he might help them rise to the occasion.
