Steel Dagger [Final]

My ever expanding roster of original characters continues to grow... To make it different this time, I finally decided to go ahead and make a male character after 11 females. Probably about time, I guess. :smirk:

Name: Steel Dagger

Sex: male

Age: Stallion (late 20s equivalent)

Species: unicorn

Pelt Color: silvery gray

Mane/Tail/Markings Color & Style: burnt orange in color. Mane is quite long and flowing, with a bit of a shaggy, unkempt look to it. Tail is worn long and uneven

Eye Color: blue

Cutie Mark: a small, curved dagger

Physique: Thin and wiry; not particularly large

Origin: Canterlot. Now travels wherever orders dictate.

Occupation: Lieutenant in the Honor Guard, V Order.

Motivation: Follow the orders he's given. Have fun doing it. Further his career in the Honor Guard.

Likes: completing an operation, deceiving others, chasing mares, magic.

Dislikes: his father, strict types in general, direct confrontations.

Character Summary: A unicorn born to cheerful teacher Lucid Glow and stern REA Major Rufous Steeledge, Steel Dagger was a bit of an eccentric since his foalhood. Shifty, deceptive and on occasion even spiteful, he didn't really get along with other foals. His parents, and especially his father treated him strictly as a result which lead to Dagger coming to resent him.

This resentment only grew after his sister Radiant Steel was born. Radiant seemed a little bemused and unsure of what she wanted to do as a foal, but it was clear to Dagger that his parents considered her the good daughter and him the problem child, at least from how he saw it. He was hardly jealous of Radiant though, it just taught him even more that he needed to do his own thing.

To amuse himself in his youth, Dagger would often take to sneaking around. He enjoyed learning things others didn't want him to know. This included stealing test answers from under his teacher's nose, being the first to collect all the gossip on his classmates and other such feats, just to test his abilities. His ultimate test was one day as a colt when his family was visiting his father at the REA headquarters. Dagger snuck off to see how deep he could get into truly classified materials. He did a good job of getting behind some locked doors, especially given his lack of training and age, but was ultimately caught. Though in playing as a dumb kid he didn't get in any real trouble from the incident outside a severe scolding from his father, his confidence in his abilities was cemented and his cutie mark appeared, a curved dagger, a weapon suitable for one who works from the shadows.

This suited him fine, and not just because it was his name. He had always wanted to enter the military but in a completely different capacity to his father. If he weren't a unicorn he might have considered even looking into the Destriers, even if he was cut from exactly the wrong material for that famed order. No, while his father championed the general REA forces stalwart strength and numbers, he was going to become a part of the more specialized Honor Guard. While his father stood proudly in his ceremonial golden armor as a defender, Dagger set his eyes on the Honor Guard's V order, The Shroud, with its focus on intelligence work.

It took a lot of work to get where he wanted to get, but Dagger stuck with it. He was talented enough. He was just good at what he did, which got him where he needed to be in time. He began to work missions for The Shroud as an operative. He enjoys his job, whatever it has him do. He is a Lieutenant by rank, and proud of it, letting it be known to any mare who catches his fancy. Within the V Order, he frequently collaborates with REIN agent Verity Essence, and the two of them have a playful if tumultuous friendship tracing back several years.

Dagger is magically proficient, especially so in spells that can help him sneak around without notice. On the UMAT test, he is ranked on the threshold of Gamma and Beta class. Combat wise, he is relatively skilled but not particularly aggressive. He seeks to avoid direct confrontation wherever he can. If he is forced to fight, he can become a bit of a coward if he feels he's at any sort of a disadvantage.

Dagger is a bit of a rogue. He's smug and self concerned, and doesn't take everything that seriously. He's also a flirt and a show off when there are mares involved. He's not an exceptionally bad pony though. He loves his mother, and because of her he'll at least try and talk to his father on rare occasion. He playfully teases his younger sister in a way that is actually affectionate and actually has an all around positive relationship with his young brother.

He's playful and easy going in nature, but not exceptionally lazy. He's good at what he does and dedicated enough. Though perhaps not the most trustworthy pony you could find, usually he'll come through in the end, that is, if he thinks it's worth his attention.

All of this connections seem sorted and his skill set and quirks will make him an interesting and dynamic character in RP. It will be interesting to see a brash, roguish, character like Will Traval's thief character in Leverage. I'd like to think that deep down he has a heart of gold and genuinely wants the best for his country and countrymen, but ultimately, that's the player's job to decide :P

PS: He can possibly expect to work with Captain Fletcher sometime soon :)
