Growing up with a Unicorn who excelled at everything she tried was disheartening for Catnip, yet it also pushed her to try her best. It took her longer to find her special talent than it did her sister, who took after her parents and became an herbalist and a cook. Despite this, Catnip was always the cheerier of the girls, and was far more boisterous, if a little easily distracted. As a foal, Catnip loved to walk through Fillydelphia, visiting the parks and occasionally stopping by a sweet shop for a snack on the way home. One day she ran into a small Mastiff pup, and the puppy took to her like a duck to water. Not sure how her parents would react, Catnip reluctantly tried to shoo him away, but he wouldn't leave off her. She ended up playing with him at the next park she encountered, throwing a stick for him and running around with him, ecstatic to let out so much energy. When she got home at the end of the day, she was surprised to find that her parents were more than happy to allow her to keep him, and they helped her set up a bed for him, which he promptly ignored and opted to curl up on Catnip's bed with her instead. The two, exhausted from the day's activities, slept comfortably, and when Catnip awoke she found a brand new shiny cutie mark on her flank. It wasn't long before Catnip named the mastiff pup Pajamas (often shortened to PJ or Peej), purely for lack of being able to think of a better name. Now grown, Catnip and Peej live in a flat above Catnip's pet shop, The Cat's Pajamas, in central Fillydelphia. Catnip owns an expanse of yard behind the shop. This is where the pets for sale actually live. Nobody likes being cooped up in a cage after all. There's shelter from the weather and room to run around, and that's enough for the animals that Catnip sells. Every evening, after the shop closes down, Catnip and Peej take their regular walk around Fillydelphia, visiting the parks and stopping by a sweet shop to buy a snack for the trek back home. She keeps moderate ties with her parents and her sister. The three aren't to keen on having Peej around their cooking after having lived with the mastiff for so many years, but they enjoy having Nipsy come visit. Carob, though she won't keep an animal of her own, makes treats to sell in The Cat's Pajamas from time to time.Catnip and Peej enjoy the busier times of day, when they get to interact with more visitors and introduce more ponies to the pets. Every few months for three or few days, though, they shut down the shop to go out to the plays that the Traveling Players put on when they come through Fillydelphia (her favorites are the plays by Flankspeare). They may also take a few days afterward to bring in new animals, should they see the need, or relax if things have been particularly hectic. The pair spend a great deal of time in the back during the workday, playing with the various animals for sale, and once work has ended, during their walk around Fillydelphia, they stop at a variety of shops and houses to say hello and brighten a few days with big slobbery Peej kisses.Catnip also spends a little time in the kitchen, listening to classical music and cooking up snacks for the animals. She may not be as good at it as her sister, but the animals don't seem to care too much, and she loves making them happy.Aside from the above, Catnip is particularly down-to-earth. She may be distracted quite easily, but despite this (or perhaps because of it) she works best under pressure. Even in the most dire of circumstances, she keeps a cool, calculating head, thinking before she acts. Inside she may rage, and Peej is the only one to hear her ragings, but to anypony else she's solid as a rock.
