  1. Rose bit her lip, but she understood their reactions. "We're not killing anything- just drawing blood. Obviously there'd be more than just the three of us, but... " She should really respect their wishes. "Aloe, what was next in the treatment? I feel we've spent enough time basking in this steam." Come to think of it, she kind of felt like she was cooking. She was sweating profusely, and it didn't matter what you were, that was the point where you were ready to cool off.
  2. "Thank you thank you!" Kettle was ecstatic to know her corn came out a HUGE success! But what's a snack without a show? Settling down atop her sister's mane, she watched, starstruck, as the stallion began to sing. She tried following along by the second 'This peppermint winter'- wondering to herself, briefly, why winter would smell like peppermint when it should smell like snow- and probably did a... moderately okay job all things considered. "Oh! Oh!" She got an idea! Lifting her sister's ear, she whispered into it near the ending of the first song, having bounced along and cheered through the remainder all the way. "Sis, sis! Can I get some socks? they'd be suuuper warm and comfy and ponies keep saying we look really cute in them and I wanna look cute too!" Well, cuter than she already looked. If she was any cuter it may be fatal- oh no! Maybe she should hold off on getting socks then- or maybe... Oh, the next song was beginning! Wow, he must be really good at skating. She didn't even think those two cities were very close to each other. She grimaced at the parts about paint and crystallizing lungs, imaging such things would be just a little bit unpleasant. All in all, the song left her with conflicting feelings and chaotic thoughts- which wasn't abnormal for the filly, buuuut... this was different. She leaned down to ask the next question that crossed her mind when Sky finished the second song, floating over her own cup o' cocoa and giving it a swig. HOT! Hot hot hot- that's too hot, way too hot! She spat the first mouthful out, coincidentally all over Candy's side as she severely underestimated the heat of piping hot hot chocolate. "Owowowow... uh..." She blinked, realizing she may have interrupted their performance with her theatrics, but deciding to carry on with her question anyway, similarly in whispered fashion: "Sis, what are toes?"
  3. Rose listened closely, blushing just a bit at the mention of 'hooves' and 'feeling good', but didn't comment on it. "I look forward to one day meeting her, then. It's always refreshing to be reminded that some ponies just want to help their fellow equines, without a desire for compensation." Or, at least, without a burning desire for it. "You've given me a good idea on what to make," she said, turning around to gesture towards her little alchemical setup. While basic, it was still fully functional, vials full of water and cold burners awaiting their mistress's command. "How would you like a potion that enhances your tactile and olfactory senses? Basically, you will be able to feel and smell things to a higher degree. Smell for determining the quality of herbs and plants- this can help in making your oils and lotions, as well as locating the best resources out in the field, if you do that. Touch is... Well... Your forte. You will be able to determine pressure points and muscles with more accuracy. I can probably throw something in that gives you more motor control to utilize that to the greatest effect..." she mused, pulling out jars of plants and... Other less conventional materials, popping off lids and letting strange and exotic scents tinge the air.
  4. Rose's eyes go half-lidded above a humored grin. "In a moment," She turned to Aloe, then. "I'm uncertain how long the trek will be, but if we ever make camp your services would be much appreciated in relieving stress in the party. Having a professional on-board is ideal, and I'm confident the party can keep you well-protected. This may give you a chance to find some rare materials of your own as well ~" This, she sounded genuinely excited about, even if it wouldn't be her who found them. "As for main objective of this mission... " waaait for it. "I need the blood of one of those land leviathan's that lurk in the deeper part of the woods. I believe you call them hydros?"
  5. Oh, she'd left an impression alright, and a rather positive one all things considered. For a mare that hated taking breaks and relaxing, this Aloe was a master at coaxing her into just such a thing through her masterfully constructed facility. She thought about the mineral baths and steam room, how the point of it all was to ease tension in the customer and lull them into a state of security and calm. "Calm," she murmured, tapping her chin with a thoughtful expression. "Calm calm calm... Something with a calming effect, I know this for sure." She looked over at the pony, scanning her up and down with nigh palpable curiosity. "Tell me, why did you open a spa in the first place? What compelled you to offer such a unique service to the denizens of Ponyville?"
  6. Kettle giggled, hopping up to take her rightful place atop her throne of mane, holding onto Candy's horn to maintain balance. "Nope, I came with Caramel!" She chirped, lighting up her own horn to float over a hoofful of the steaming treat to Sky, all sunshine and smiles. "YES! I hope you like it! I made it myself- oh, and we might be out of popcorn. And corn. But don't worry, we can get more later!" She looked down at Candy's face saying this.
  7. "Thank you!" She chriped, perking up at the compliment. "They're traditional festive snacks where I come from. I thought I'd bring a little of my culture here for this event. And no," her ears pinned back, and her smile gained a sad undertone. "I'm afraid I have yet to make any lasting connections here, although my tendency to work excessively probably doesn't help." "Oh, speaking of," she gestured towards her sign, "is there anything you've ever wanted in a potion that you can't find at a regular vendor? Since everybody is exchanging gifts, I thought I'd offer my unique talents to create one such thing as well."
  8. Rose was beginning to wonder if anyone was going to stop by her little stall, laying her head down on the counter as the night took its toll on her. She worked very hard to set this all up, and exhuastion was beginning to settle in in the aftermath of so much effort with little recourse. That is, until a familiar face shower up. A welcome sight, too, as she smiled a tired smile. "Ah, the spa pony. I'm doing quite well, Aloe, thank you. As for your latter query... Also yes," she hesitated a bit, uncertain if this was leading somewhere as she righted herself up, shifting the bowls of snacks her way in a subtle gesture. "Truth be told, this will be my first holiday event in years. You can't really celebrate much on the sea..." She looked up at the stars, murmuring, "if you can even keep track of the days that pass you by."
  9. Looking at it too closely? How is she supposed to look at it? She gently bobs the potion around in her aura, watching the rich red fluid sway and lap at its glass prison as she considered the mare's words. "Perhaps... What would you suggest I do?" She genuinely desired some feedback here because, for once, the workaholic mare was at a loss. She did have a tendency to overcomplicate things, but that's just the way her mind worked.
  10. As the adults made merry and Sky poured some warm drinks, a certain little puffball could be seen rushing up to them at a somewhat frantic pace. That puffball became less and less little over the next hoofful of seconds, before the hourglass decided to regurgitate some time to save itself the stress of waiting- and then Caramel finds herself the proud owner of a comically enormous cup of steaming, buttery goodness. "Oh, Caramel! Sorry sorry sorry- I wanted to come earlier but then I wondered if it was adults only but that wouldn't make sense seeing as this is for everypony so then I thought about coming too but I can't come without bringing something for somepony but I couldn't bring something for EVERYPONY so I decided I'd bring something for you but I wasn't sure if it would be enough so I made enough for BOTH of us but then I got hungry too and made enough for FOUR of us and then I noticed I was going to be late and rushed over here as fast as I could after rushing the kettle- so I hope you like it!" The little filly positively beamed, the weight of the cup unreasonably heavy for holding popcorn, and nearly twice the size of the poor filly. "Oh, hi! I'm Kettle Corn, Candy and Caramel's lil' sister! Who are you?" She cocked her head, bouncing on her hooves before spotting the hot cocoa and promptly bouncing up to the table to fix herself a cup. "Ooh! Hot chocolate! Can I have some? Can I can I!?"
  11. To Aloe "That would be amazing." She pointed to the mare, completely serious. "Link us up sometime. I need contacts, and anypony as talented with botany as Rarity is at fashion is somepony I want by my side." And now to address her counterpart's concerns. She can't help a snort and a giggle. "Oh, currency is no object to me. I will pay you double that and provide you- and whoever else may accompany us- with potions to enhance vitality. As for what we're looking for... " now, her smile became unbearably mysterious. "I don't know if you'll quite like what I'm about to say. It is rather daring, even with an amazing unicorn on your side." She glanced at Aloe too. "Oh, you wouldn't happen to be interested in a trip through the Everfree, Aloe?"
  12. Rose responded to Aloe first, commenting on her mention of Zecora, a vaguely familiar name by then. "Ah, the 'zebra'. Full of wisdom that one is. It does not surprise me in the least that my little shop would have trouble competing with hers, 'though I do manage ~" Then to the aerion's mention of being more sun sensitive, raising an inquiring brow as she gave her another look over. "Strange, your lighter coloration should make you less succeptible to sunlight's harmful effects." Could there be something more to it? Something about aerions in general that she failed to take into account? Ah, but then came the part that excited her the most. "I happen to be in need of a cartographer, by chance. If I can, I intend on leading an expedition into the Everfree in search of some particularly rare materials. They will aid me immensely in my research and development efforts, although the acquisition of these materials may turn out to be... Difficult."
  13. "How about Tuesday, at noon?" Rose suggested, mentally pinning the town hall in her mind as she glimpsed the map. "Anything later than when the crows start to croon ~" she chuckled.
  14. Rose sighed as she watched the zebra leave, absently collecting the bits and looking them over, but not really seeing them as the glint of sunlight sparked off their aurum edges. "What a strange pony," she said to herself in the silence left behind. She looked over the assorted plants of her garden, thinking about which of them may make a decent brew of her own. If she meets up for tea, she'd like to have something to show for it. Perhaps not tea, but a treat native to her region? Yes, flans, those are always nice. And she'll need to get her basket back, too, so that's an excuse to go if she gets distracted. Yeah! It's decided, she'll go meetup with this Zecora... Er... "Wait!" Rose was quick to catch up to the zebra, barely wonder after her short sprint due to self-improvements. "I don't even know where you live! Are you going to come to my store instead?" She needed to know this stuff, dammit! Oh, how the mundane details so easily slip her mind.
  15. Kettle pouted, puffing out her fluffy little chest as her bigger sister messed up her mane. She spent a couple moments restoring her mane to its perfect poofiness. Funnily enough, Kettle actually wasn't all that fond of caramel. Despite her sweet tooth, the stuff was just far too sticky and chewy for her likes. "Hmph!" She hmph'd, then thought out something that perked her right up again, "Oh, do you think there's a Caramel Apple! That'd be sooo coool! Then I'd have two caramels!" That's when an epiphany struck her, and she gasped. "Do you think there's a Kettle Apple too!? Or a Black Kettle, or a Kettle Cookie, or Kettle Candy- Kettle Candy would make the best candy I bet-" aaaand off she goes again for the next hour or so. It feels like the next time she takes a breath, they're already there. "Ten minutes until we arrive at Ponyville station." Announced over the intercom.
  16. She watched the money drop, pursing her lips, and then nodded to the zebra with a small, wilted smile. "Aye, I'll take you up on that offer. Next week, perhaps?" She doesn't plan on blowing up her lab that day, so she's theoretically available then. She shrugged offering a hoof to shake. "A pleasure doing business with you either way. te deseo suerte y fortuna ~"
  17. Switching tracks for the disguised apothecary was about as natural to her as explosions in the lab, and thus, she had no trouble following the alternate line of dialogue, settling down a bit more as she cast her thoughts in her murky, complicated past. "I'm from a place called Andalusia, mi amiga." She said in a tone that was more... Reminiscent. "It is funny you mention Aerions being from all around the globe, for I am, myself, from overseas. Still, it matters little where a mare of my work shores up. Potioncraft is a trade that benefits all indescrimenately, and so I continue it here. Getting a shop open was a more painful process than I thought it'd be, though." The last part is spoken in a grumble, the sea green mare narrowing her eyes at some distant thing. Then something the sunny bat said caused her to perk up, a little more energy animating her languid frame as she looked at her more closely. "You mentioned making maps. Are you a cartographer, by chance?"
  18. "Apples!" She cheered, leaping into the air with cheer before coming back down to land by her side. She was like a vibrating bundle of smiles and fur, completely unable to contain her excitement. "Are we going to see the Apple family too?" She gasped, jumping to her hooves and looking back out the window. "Oh, maybe I'll get to hang out with other foals! We can play games and talk about food and I can show them how to make kettle corn! I think they'd really like that because kettle corn is the best corn-" she flashed a playful grin Caramel's way "-right?"
  19. Rotten dreams plague our minds with delusions of hope and inspiration. Do the same people who would chastise this dialogue see what brews below the surface of the stoic man? Can they feel his heartache, experience his sorrows? Have they ever looked at the world and seen it devoid of color and meaning, but go on with the motions of life like an automaton?

How many of us, I wonder, live like that. Adrift in the void, grasping for anything to cling onto. Gasping for air when there's none to breath.

  20. She giggled, "I do like plants, and plants like me. But timewise I am always free." When she's not brewing potions in her secret lab, of course. She's eager to fill in commissions. "Although... " She tapped her chin, a thought crossing her mind. "There is a task I wish to complete, but my knowledge of monsters is incomplete. Blood from a creature with many heads I need, for it plays a vital role in a potion of mine, conceptually a seed."
  21. Rose was surprised to hear that name was actually familiar around these parts. She's not sure just where she landed, but she had thought she landed far, far away from Andalusia and anything on it. Or... Perhaps this is a different organization with exactly the same name? All questions for another time, for now, she needed to secure this contact. All of the opportunities for research... Rose pretends to enjoy the steam for awhile- well, she does enjoy it, but her mind was elsewhere- with a relaxing sigh, ears pinning back, chin tilted up, eyes closed. Yes, this was turning out to be a very fruitful experience. "So... Compass," she rolled the name around on her tongue, an alien taste to the familiar syllables. "Just what kind of 'aerion' are you? You don't bear the appearance most common for your race. One might say you have a... Sunny... Complexion ~" she giggled into her hoof, cracking an eye open to peer at her with mirth.
  22. How do so many plants grow in one place? The answer, unsurprisingly, would be alchemy. Special soil for a special garden ~ Clearing her throat, she steels herself for her own round of verbal rhyming rhythmatics. "A story unfamiliar, I must say, for a mare from a land so prosperous and gay." Well... Gay in a sense. Her hometown wasn't always the happiest, or the most prosperous, but it's the place she prospered the most. "Although knowledge passed down I must agree, can be a liberating experience which allows..." She paused here, fidgeting with concentration. "... One to work very freely?" She cracked a wavering grin. "Apologies if my emulation is insesntitive, I just find the habit highly alluring- in a platonic fashion, I assure you."
  23. "Rose Compass, local alchemist, at your service!" She chirped, happy to be of help. She listened carefully to what the new Mayor had to say before striking a remarkably formal salute, even if her face didn't reflect the serious gesture. "Thank you, I'll be sure to review them. Until then, I shall bid you adieu. Adiós ~" And with that, the green mare's endless work continued, this time taking her to the town hall. She remembered going there once or twice as part of becoming a denizen of Ponyville, but she was largely independent, and thus didn't have to refer to their office all that often.
  24. Rose was just about to respond when the guard appeared, derailing her train of thought as a new one jumped on the tracks: alicorns- or this mare in particular- must be of a fairly high status to have the local guard paying their respects to them. She watched in idle curiosity as he flew away, watching the patterns his wings made as they moved and then comparing them to the princess' wings. They looked pretty much the same. "Huh? Oh, yes thank you ~" she'd politely take a cup, raising it to her muzzle and giving it a good whiff. "As for any of my latest brews, yes, actually, although they're still in their testing phases." This said, one of many pockets on her engorged bags would flip open while she sipped her tea, wiping some of the mysterious fluid off her cheek with her hoof as two classic potion bottles floated out her bags. One of them was green and fizzy, the other sanguine in appearance, like liquid ruby. They orbited each other while she studied them, watching the fluids inside gently slosh and slide over the glass interior. "My main focus is on life extension and improved health. These are two attempts at that; the green one-" said bottle jostled, floating closer to the alicorn to afford her a better look "-Was created via the extracted essense of anurans. Leap frogs, specifically. While it does grant the consumer limited regeneration... It only works on foals." A rather annoying quirk. Next, the red bottle. "This one took some work. I call it Salamander Blood. This one does allow mature subjects to regenerate, and to a greater degree than the froggy one. The issue is that I still haven't decvised a mechanism for the regeneration to stop..." She paused, giving Twilight a look that said 'this Is a bad thing.' "So I'm trying some things out now. Using the aid of monarch butterflies that feed off of blood blooms, I've came up with a hypothesis: it should gain a sort of butterfly effect, beginning with small things and slowly escelating. A limited concentration should allow it to wear off before it causes any cancerous growths. If that doesn't work, I'll have to create something to counter its effects for paired usage..." She trailed off, blanking out and then giving the princess a sheepish look, ears folding back. "Terribly sorry, ma'am! I seem to have gotten carried away..."
  25. "Huh... " A zebra. She wanted to ask more about her kind and culture, but it was pretty clear that she had strained the mare's patience far enough for one day. She'd ask about it another time, perhaps over that cup of tea. "Well, all of the flora are arranged by genus. There are rows going down the center of each lane, so it shouldn't be hard to find what you're looking for." She'd lead Zecora further into her garden and to the beginning of one such lane, this one lined with morning glory and lilac. A moderately sized weaved basket lay near the entrance, empty yet full of potential. "Herbalism isn't so much different from alchemy. Tell me, if you're not afraid, what attracted you to this trade?" She repressed a giggle at this, trying her hoof at some rhyming of her own, although she knew she probably wouldn't be as good at it as the striped mare.
