  1. Flux trotted over to him, placing her hoof gently on his shoulder. "It was certainly not your fault. Think nothing of it, Mr. Colton." Tesla brushed his tail against Colton's muzzle softly, showing both support and sympathy. Flux, who was not the best at dealing with social situations, tried to think of something else to say. After a brief consideration, she decided to go with whatever felt right. "You did a much better job with that sewing than I could have done and such an accident could have happened to anypony. There's nothing to be ashamed of."

Flux removed her hoof from his shoulder and offered it to him for some support in standing up again. I'm not very good at this sort of thing, though. I do hope that I didn't do something wrong, Flux hoped. "Perhaps I could give you a helping hoof in both regaining your balance and sewing up those clothes. I'm sure there's a sewing spell that you could give me a hand with by directing my movements."

  2. "Well, I personally find it to be quite invigorating. It's a feeling like no other, proving a theory or perfecting a method." Flux had stars in her eyes as she spoke and an adoring tone in her voice. Her passion for science was quite evident in her mannerisms, if not her words. "However, not many ponies look into it. They believe that science is rather pointless in a world of the supernatural and unexplainable. I believe that the two disciplines can compliment each other. Every thing has a route in the physical and tangible, in my opinion. That's why I'm looking into the biological explanation for the channelling a unicorn magic at the moment. It's quite a big project, so I have several smaller ones as well."

She turned her head away slightly at Colton's compliment, hiding the slight blush on her face. "Why thank you, Mr. Colton. That's quite a compliment, though I did have some help with that particular bit of magic. I was never particularly gifted in the magical arts, though mending and movement spells seem to be my forte." Her turned head made detecting of Colton's injury much more difficult, since Flux had to rely on hearing rather than the more immediate sense of sight. However, his cry of pain caught her attention quickly. "Oh dear," Flux gasped, rushing around Colton's work space to get a better look at his hoof. "Here, let me fix that for you."

  3. (I apologize for the giant wall of text to follow.)

"Well, I previously studied at Canterlot University, but due to a lack of interest in directly magical pursuits, I decided that I should study on my own for a while. I had heard that an old Earth Pony named Torvus lived in the old clock tower near the western end of Canterlot. Apparently, he was quite a skilled inventor as a younger pony though he had purportedly lost his abilities with age. However, I was determined to learn about an art that had been named "Science" by several books in the Great Library of Canterlot. I visited the clock tower almost daily, hoping to verify Torvus' existance. One day, there was a loud crash from the tower and I went inside the investigate. There had been a slightly issue with the replacement of the bell and it had managed to create a sizeable hole in the tower. I assisted him with the reattachment of the bell and rebuilding of the damage with my magic. Torvus seemed to appreciate it and after a brief conversation, I revealed my intentions. He agreed to give me a hoof with my learning and also didn't mind my rather strange experiments, so he became my mentor." Flux paused at the end of the rather long story, both for Colton's benefit and her own.

"Tesla, on the other hand is a much different story. I don't wish to bore you with another long-winded tale, so I shall merely summarize. Tesla here is native to woodland areas, as much of his species is. My mother, Comet, is an astronomer and did much of her work in the area Whitetail Wood near Canterlot. One night, I was invited along for a night of stargazing. I wandered off and happened upon Tesla. He was injured and, with my mother's help, we were able to get him to a veteranarian quickly. Once he was healed, Tesla seemed to take a liking to me, so I adopted him as my pet." Flux stopped herself again, smiling slightly at the end. "I hope you don't mind my babbling, it's a trait I picked up from my father."

"Take all the time you need with the clothes mending, I don't have any pressing engagements," Flux said, remembering Colton's last statement.

  4. "Ah, interesting. That definately explains my observations earlier," Flux said, mostly to herself. Trotting slightly closer to the fabric shelves, Flux tried to gauge the flexibility and strength of the fabrics. Unfortunately, it is quite difficult to determine tactile properties without qualitative observations, she thought. Ah well, I suppose Mr. Colton will have some idea. "The colour is not really key, so I suppose it would be best to have whichever colour is most abundant." Flux nodded to herself, reaffiming her words by quickly rummaging through her saddlebags with some magic and checking the information in her notebook.

"On the topic of the damaged clothes, it was during a work-related mix up. Tovus - my landlord/mentor, really - was cleaning out the gears of the clock tower. He has several safety precautions that he puts into action to prevent any accidents. Unfortunately, Torvus forgot to place the wooden axle between the main gears of the clock mechanism and he ended up getting caught up in the gears." Flux, anticipating the shock and worry that her last sentence would cause, added quickly to her story. "Luckily, he wasn't hurt too badly; I managed to fix up his injuries, as they were relatively minor. It was the clothes that suffered most of the damage."

  5. (Not at all :))

"Hello, Colton. I'm Quantum Flux and this is my pet ferret, Tesla," Flux introduced, noticing Colton's interest in the ferret. Tesla responded to his name with a quiet sound of acknowledgement. Flux quickly looked around the shop before answering Colton, wanting to quickly get her bearings. It was a pleasant looking place, with several mannequins displaying outfits. Flux knew little about buisness establishments and fashion, but based on a quick analysis, she figured that most ponies would find the outfits quite pleasing. She noted the emptiness of the store, a clue as to the possibly reason that she had never seen this shop before - aside from the fact that Flux lived in her own little world most of the time.

"I have two things actually," Flux began, addressing Colton once more. "A...friend of mine needs to have some clothes mended and, if it's not too much trouble, I'd like to purchase some fabric." Flux tried to be as mannerly as possible, recalling lessons taught to her much earlier in life. "Also, if you don't mind me asking, is this a new shop?"

  6. Quantum Flux hurried through the streets, her ferret Tesla holding tightly to her mane as they trotted towards the main buisness sector of Canterlot. Tesla dooked quietly in questioning, wondering what had Flux in such a rush. "Apparently, fabric isn't quite as durable as I have hoped. I've used up my last sample in a...less than successful experiment and therefore, I need to procure some more. A bit of patching up on Torvus' shirt was something that I had to get done anyway, and I being the pony I am, couldn't possibly do so. Do you remember what Torvus said the last time I tried to fix his clothes?" Tesla chuckled, recalling the experience quickly.

Flux noted each of the stores as she passed them. Too expensive, too frilly, kicked out for that one tiny explosion which was absolutely not my fault - the exploration of Science demanded it! She stopped in front of a shop she hadn't seen before. "The Perfect Fit," Flux read aloud. As one of the few store that were presumably affordable and hadn't kicked her out, Flux decided that this was the best option. She opened the door cautiously, hearing a little ding from the bell installed near the top of the door.

Flux had never been comfortable with any sort of fancy clothing and generally didn't care much about her appearance - considering she worked in the basement of an old clock tower - and thus being in a clothing shop had always been strange for her. "Hello," Flux said, announcing her presense.

  8. Nope. I do have the advantage of being a girl and thus having it be slightly less odd for me to enjoy shows about pastel coloured ponies. There's also the fact that my friends and family think I'm completely bonkers already. But, yeah. I'll quote ponies and memes at random intervals and discuss the episodes. Two of my friends were already bronies (who knew?) and I've managed to get everypony else to come around to it. I may have ruined the manliness of my male friends, but we all can experience most awesome cartoon on the air together!

  9. Roleplay Type: World of Equestria (Mane RP)

    Name: Celia "Wrong Note" Andantino

    Gender: Female

    Age: Mare (20)

    Species: Earth Pony

    Eye Color: Light yellow

    Coat Color: Dark Purple

Mane/Tail Color and Style: Her mane is dual coloured, light green and a darkened blue. She wears it loosely, but she tucks one side behind her left ear.

Physique: Average, though a bit thinner than many of her peers

Cutie Mark: Three black music notes

    Origin/Residence: Manehatten/Hoofington

Occupation: Works part-time at a fish bait shop "Hook, Line, and Sinker"

Motivation: She sings every night in an attempt to regain her previous vocal talents.

Likes: The wind in the trees, silence, music, the colour purple

Dislikes: Unicorns (or is at least distrustful of them), anything that reminds her of home, her terrible singing voice

Character Summary: The Andantino family is a family of musicians who are renowned in Manehatten. Celia was one of the most promising members of the family with her singing talent. She was very selfish and uncaring, all the things that rich fillies tended to be. It seemed that she was going to be the next rising star of the Andantino family and everyone around her knew it. Celia earned her cutie mark young, as one of the first in her class. At the first concert she appeared in, despite taking a small role as a backup singer, Celia's talent for singing was revealed. Her mother and father -Vivace and Larg- had expected nothing less from an Earth Pony of their family.

However, on the night of the big concert that was certain to cement her place in the world of music, a unicorn who had been scorned by the Andantino family cursed Celia to have a terrible singing voice. The curse made it so that she would be forced to sing rather than talk from that day forth. The concert was a disaster, with Celia being laughed off the stage. As a result, Celia decided to leave Manehatten to avoid the shame of her curse. She abandoned the Andantino name and became known by the name Wrong Note. It humbled her greatly, resulting in her casting away her old ways and starting to appreciate others. She travelled for several years before settling into Hoofington. She ended up working at the bait shop merely as a way to make ends meet, but she has developed more of an interest in the ways of Hoofington and appreciates its importance to the residents of the town..

Her personality has done a huge turn around since leaving Manehatten. The curse has remained, but she has come to appreciate strength of character and attributes such as kindness and generousity rather than beauty or wealth. She still tries to discover a way to break her curse, though her grudge against the unicorn who cursed her has faded away. Wrong Note sees that without that event, she would have never been able to mature like she has, but she still wants to regain a normal method of communication with other ponies. For this purpose, she goes out to the docks of Hoofington to sing each night, hoping that it may break her curse. Wrong Note's socialite tendencies have mostly disappeared from her life, though they appear in burst, causing her to be cold and callous at times. She is also very self-conscious due to her past experiences and often stays away from friendships until she knows the pony in question very well.

Overall, her experiences ended up transforming her into a determined, capable, and ultimately very different mare from the stuck up, privileged Celia Andantino.

  10. As many of my pony knowledgeable friends have said, Twilight is almost a carbon copy of my in the body of a purple unicorn. The diligence, commitment to learning, having only a few friends, and the more logical approach to thinking are definately core qualities to who I am (In my opinion). I even can go a bit Psycho!Sparkle when I think something really important is going to be late.

If that was a bit TL;DR, basically: Twilight Sparkle.

  11. Ah! I hadn't thought of that! It's an excellent idea and I shall definately add it in.

Why thank you, I've been looking for an excuse to use all my weird scientist-name knowledge. Even though Tesla doesn't exist in MLP, I thought it would be fun. It was either that or Einstein.

  12. Roleplay Type: World of Equestria RP (Mane RP)

Name: Quantum Flux, though she generally goes by Flux

    Sex: Female

    Age: Older Filly (17)

    Species: Unicorn

Eye Color: Bright green, though she occasionally wears goggles during her experiments

    Coat Color: White

Mane/Tail/Markings Color & Style: She generally lets her mane and tail fly free, except when she is experimenting to avoid the obvious dangers of volatile chemicals . The edges are a bit raggedy from her insistence to cut it herself and both her mane and tail are red.

    Physique: Average

Cutie Mark: Three Erlenmeyer Flasks inside a diagram of an atom.

It's story proper goes a little like this:

Quantum Flux had to think of it quickly. She had one night left before the project was due and she still had no idea what to write. Slamming down her pen angrily, she paced back and forth. She was supposed to be writing about “a topic that interests” her. The only problem was that she had no idea what she was interested in!

Being one of the few blank flanks remaining, Flux was still attempting to find her talents. Her relatively weak magic gave her some interest in magic's inner workings, but Flux knew she could never finish it in one night.

When all seemed lost, a spark of inspiration came to Flux. That's it! Now if I can just find some of those glass things that my dad had lying around... With renewed vigour, Flux dashed around her house, gathering all of her necessary materials. As she poured some liquids into a strangely shaped glass, Flux went over the steps in her head.

Magic without magic! Genius! Changing the colours of liquids using this chemical should be unique enough. Now, pour the lemon juice into the chemical and stir slightly... Flux worked through the night, not stopping until her essay had been completed. Grabbing some extra supplies for her live performance, Flux dashed out the door and arrived just in time for the beginning of classes.

Unfortunately, Flux had grabbed a rather volatile chemical rather than the one she had meant to use. The result was a minor explosion that managed to turn the blackboard even blacker and the singeing of Flux's mane.

However, when the dust and soot cleared, Flux saw that her very own cutie mark had appeared. This sign of her talent, combined with the energy that her experiment had filled her with, set Flux's hooves on her current path.

Origin/Residence: Originally hails from Fillydelphia, moved to Canterlot.

Occupation: She works as Torvus' aide. Torvus is an elderly Earth Pony who works with gears and lives in the abandoned clock tower near the outskirts of Canterlot. In return for her assistance, he allows her to stay in the basement of the clock tower and lets her do as many experiments as she wants.

Motivation: She wants to learn as much as she can about the universe. At the moment, she is trying to find some correlation between Unicorn magic and pony biology, basically trying to see why and how magic develops and is used.

Likes: Science, cookies, dusk, being with her friends

    Dislikes: Loud noise, interruptions, mornings

Character Summary: Born in Fillydelphia, Flux moved to Canterlot early in her foalhood, long before any concrete memory set in. Therefore, her mannerism have been completely shaped by Canterlot society. Her mother is an earth pony astronomer named Comet Flare. Her father is a doctor in Canterlot named Dr. Scalpel "Flux".

Flux is definitely not quiet or shy, but is in fact very vocal of her opinions and will defend them to the bitter end. She is a very serious worker and can go completely silent or disappear for days when she's trying to figure something out.

Flux is almost a complete opposite of her bubbly, very expressive friend from Cloudsdale who she finds annoying at times, but their friendship remains quite an important part of her life. She is much more reserved and tends to be subtle in expressing her feelings.

She isn't a big fan of her boss, Torvus, but he allows her to be as crazy as she wants with experiments as long as she helps him out. For that, she is grateful and leaves complaining to a minimum.

The only thing that really gets Flux excited is a new breakthrough in her experiments or theories. However, being around her friends has rubbed off on her and she can get excited about “normal” things such as a party or competition at times.

Flux has the strengths of being a good debater and rather good organization, other than during her experiments. She's also good working things out quickly and logically.

However, her magic is not very powerful, but it is functional (ie. Gamma Class Unicorn as per the U.M.A.T. ). She can be quite uncaring and brutally honest when she's in a bad mood. She finds it hard to admit that she was wrong and is stubborn on her opinions.

Additional Information: Flux has a pet ferret named Tesla who lives with her in the clock tower’s basement floor. Tesla has a brown body with black bands around his belly and across his eyes. He tends to go out during the day by himself, unless Flux requests his assistance with an experiment.

Also, a note about the advanced-ness of her science. I know that Ponyville is only steam based technology and whatnot, so I thought I would be best to clear this up. Flux partakes in the generally timeless ideals of "mad science" type technology. It's that archetypal "flask and bubbly concoctions" type of science.

  13. Thanks for the warm welcome everypony!

To answer your question, Davoth, I do intend to spend most of my time here participating in Role Play. I've been going over the rules and application format and have found it seems to be similar to most other RP forums I've been on. I suppose it makes sense, as the same standards and etiquette are generally expected everywhere.

  14. About myself.: I'm rather boring honestly. My hobbies include dance, reading, and writing. I'm from the cool land of Canada (bad pun, I know). I'm rather nerdy and absolutely love referencing geeky internet things. I'm very passionate about learning and getting what I need to do done. I enjoy video games and music, among other media, and am always willing to try my hand at something new.

How did you hear about Canterlot.com?: I googled "Canterlot" looking for the wiki entry on it and found this as the first link. Intrigued, I took a look.

How did you became a fan of FiM?: I stumbled across a link to Equestria Daily and searched up the first episode on Youtube. After the first arc (S1E1 and S1E2), I was hooked :)

My one favourite main cast pony?: Twilight Sparkle

Since all of my post stuff is above, I haven't got much else to say.

So, in conclusion, nice to meet you all. Hopefully, I'll be seeing you around the forums.
