1. Your ignorance as to that man's very existence leaves you more sane than I, and you should celebrate and revel in your naivete towards that horrible, horrible person. However, let us not derail the thread! I would find it interesting to see a technological dystopia, maybe with a cryogenically preserved populace (or similar stasis), due to the fall of their empire. Or some such.
2. I agree with you on most of the Canterlot Wedding music, with the "This Day Aria" always holding a special place for the sheer force that it has, in a very Disney style. That means there was a lot of effort put into it so that it could evoke that similar spirit. I also agree, it is not a bad song, but not knowing what that melody reminds me of is just frustrating, and almost ruins the song for me. Kind of like when you're with friends, and don't get a reference that everyone else does. One feels disconnected, out of the loop, and this can grate until one gets a moment to figure out the reference without disrupting the conversational flow. It's the only reason, that I don't listen to the song more. Because that tiny niggling sense of alien familiarity that just puzzles me.
3. Thank you for the information . However, I am not discussing the instrumentation, though starswirl, you do make an accurate point here. Derivative isn't bad. But, I am talking about the melody sounding eerily familiar, not the chords (though as I listened I did notice a similarity). The reason I'm not focusing on that, is that lots of songs use similar chord structures. The Famous "Pachelbel Rant" And Axis of Awesome's "Four Chords" I just know the Melody that Twilight sings is So eerily familiar. Which is why attached that specific idea of a derivative work being negative. In that it would just be nothing more than slightly altering a different melody. The way it stands it's not seemingly connected to anything worthy of calling it an homage. So, while I understand Ingram has done some derivative pieces, (and frankly who hasn't? It's all been done before and all that) I find that this Melody is so similar to something it borders on the generic. So I want to figure out what Twilight's Melody for the first 30 seconds sounds similar to, Melodically. Though, to keep things in a preserved Civility, I will need to check out Taurus. .
4. Oh no, it's not the instrumentals. It's the Melody. :15 to :22 are also a part of this glaring reminder of another song. Not in a "Another Pony song" way, specifically to another song by another artist. The verbal cadences, the way the melody goes (especially on the Everyponysings sheet music) it looks and sounds a LOT like something else. The reason this grinds me is because it unfortunately makes the song seem derivative, and if there is no other song that this was based on, which will baffle me if that's so, the song seems generic, which is a shame because I love nearly all of Ingram's work.
5. Okay: Favorite Villain, Discord. He was Fantastic! A Huge TNG fan, so having not-Q show up with that over the top whimsy and hint of manipulative Snark, just made me smile. Favorite Non-Season-Defining Villain: Flim and Flam. They are the most realistic antagonists, and the kind people still confront, even if they are usually less over the top and obvious about it. So with that it actually shows kids the kind of people they'll encounter which gives the "lesson" a bit more importance. Mane 6: Pinke, Tie between Fluttershy and AJ, Twilight, Rainbow Dash, Rarity. From Most to Least favorite. Pinkie has some of the best kind of humor I like, other than Dark and Satirical Comedy, the Pure Surrealist Absurd Loony Toons Nonsense kind that just makes me chuckle. Fluttershy is so adorable I can't stop myself, but AJ is such a respectable character I can't make a fair decision between the 2. They are equal in my eyes for completely opposing reasons.
6. Okay. From 0:00 to 0:29, does this song sound really eerily familiar to anypony? I feel like I heard the opening phrases there in some other song 1000 times over. Especially from the Flashback shots to :29. Can anypony answer what song that part sounds like? Because this song sounds like I heard very Very Similar Melodic phrasing in a pop song or two from ages past. Really, the entire song sounds like one I heard before. Can any, and I mean ANY pony answer this nagging itch at the back of my skull?
7. ...Darn...I know him. Listen New blood, I realized it a minute ago. Let's let him see this place as it really is. I say with a huff and a sigh as I collapse in my seat.
8. Greeting Ginger . It is a pleasure to have you at the site, and the Roleplaying here is amazing, and you'll find many eloquent ponies on the site here. Have an amazing time here, we're glad to have you! .
9. So let me get this straight. We have no way out of here, and apparently there's no coffee. Fantastic. Nice power though, I have a brother up in Manehatten who could use some new windows. If we get through all this, you want his card, or vice versa? I walk around the room, passing back and forth, well, that would be too organized. More accurately, he wiggled and waggled, and stumbled and wandered all over the room in which any way his legs desired to go, as if they had a plan of their own. Unfortunately, the thick frame of Disco Dancer, got in the way so they were forced to reconsider. Many. Many times. Unfortunately, I don't have a talent for window making. I'm more, the artist, shall they say. I turn a surprisingly smooth 1280, and rebalance myself noticeably and quickly. Your trick gave me a good idea there...if we can't find a real door. We make one! And I think you, pointing at the Red Stallion who I propositioned for Coffee earlier, should be the one to start!
10. There's not much to look at. Just painted white. It really screws with how big this room really is, like an illusion. I look at the large red stallion in the room Hey, big guy, you have anything for a party-pony's hangover?
11. Oh...for the love of...kids. Disco Dancer was not born to take deal of kids. Especially Hung over Disco Dancer. Tell me, do you actually have any coffee hidden in this insane asylum color scheme? I just need to sober up a little more and I'll be out... I say as I cradle my head hearing the outcry of the small filly.
12. I wouldn't see it as full out communism but, comparable to the old Indian Caste system, and Ghandi and so on. The thing is, that it does work. Under the show's pretense, and thus canonical application, it works fantastically. It's more some ponies (who would get logically shafted by a system like this) seeing it as immoral, or at least unnecessary and restricting, and so calling BS, and making a valid complaint. While most people disagreeing would state they are a minority of little concern "if it ain't broken, don't fix it". To where it could mirror a lot of debates going on, with many political topics connected. I'm not trying to answer anything with this premise but just show an interesting hypothesis with well justified villains, and what would happen if the intelligent and disenfranchised were set in a utopian caste system society, perpetuated by the idea of Self Discovery. When really it just breeds people who are forced into certain positions, in a very subtle 1984 type of manner, or are forced to do something rather than their true passions. The Rebels would be largely composed of the Disgruntled, Disenfranchised, 90's Ponies, and along with actual speakers of social reform, and then the obligatory lazy and depressed ponies who bond with the movement as a way to either justify their wandering not-really-that-useful to anypony attitude, and to try to rekindle their purpose by giving them a way out (The CMC falling here). I'm trying to think of how the Mane 6 would slide here. Seeing as, I imagine dissent starting to spread over this social organization of life time blank flanks, both as a heavy divide in society over support or disgust over the coalition, and the actual violence they start perpetrating in an, admittedly, cliched Hollywood Anarchist behavior (a la V for Vendetta), where Princess Celestia after a good chapter or 2 donated largely to setting the tone, and getting the CMC into the group obviously, would call in the Mane 6, and try to get them to use the Elements of Harmony, general Diplomacy, etc. to solve both the Divide in good society, and the acts of violence being taken by this new social movement and similar to the Appaloosa episode, we'd see even the Mane 6 taking opposite sides, and I'm trying to think of who would side where. So who would take which side, from a Character perspective in this kind of debate. A lot of them have gained a lot (including by canon, their friendship) from their Cutie Marks so I see very little reason why some would want to change. Pinkie maybe, but when we see ideas of a giant amount of unrest caused in pony society, she sided with it for 10 seconds due to Chocolate Rain. Rainbow maybe would join the anarchists due to her very "I do what I want" attitude, despite her symbol of loyalty (she is dedicated to her friends heavily), but when it doesn't fall into matters of grave concern, she very much does as she pleases. Twilight and AJ I definitely see agreeing with the Celestial take on things. So that leaves Rarity, Fluttershy and Pinkie on whom I have no major ideas on how they'd side on this issue.
13. It's Cool little lady...just a little...hung over is all...and please, if she had anything to do with this, I wouldn't have this head cracking headache. I cradle my head in my hoof as I stumble about, shaking off a night of wild Canterlot partying Hey...Ow...They Call me Disco Dancer. I'd show you why, but this headache is leaving my legs weak and my neck weaker. I don't know where we are, but you got any coffee?
14. I stretch my eyes open, baggy and tired from a large party the night before, my mane still in front of my face as my entire body smells of a mixture of tacos, Fruit Punch, Whiskey, and other fluids and stains. My once white coat was now a coffee stained grungy yellow, and my chin covered in grit and fuzz. Dear Celestia...never doing that again... A faint voice mutters as he stretches awake, Disco Dancer knowing never to go to Filly Mercury's again. I see the purplish pony in the Blank white room, still stumbling from a hang over. Oh Celestia...hey...Sorry for what happened...this kind of thing usually happens when I get like this... I'll just leave, and refund all the food I probably ate and couches I ruined... Catch you later. I walk forward and realize there is no actual way to leave as my nose colldes with a wall. Hey...what gives? I look around confused and dazed at the goings on, just wanting some coffee.
15. Interesting, given that the computer with any functional skype like use is often filled by others, expect little of my amazing visage to be displayed there
