The lore for it is still in the works, but within our RP, the entire military of Equestria can be said to fit broadly under the name of the Royal Equestrian Army (REA); this would include all airborne pegasus soldiers. As there is evidence that they are military in nature, we would likely assume that the Wonderbolts are just a single but well known team of the most skillful fliers within a much bigger force.

The Blue Angels is technically part of the United States Military. And the paintjob used by the blue angles looks pretty identical to the wonder bolts costume. Not to mention the flight style. But it's a force for show only I believe.
