Recommended Posts

Roleplay Type: World of Equestria

Name: Bell "Boots" Boots

Sex: Male

Age: Stallion

Species: Earth pony

Eye Color: Baby blue

Coat: Coffee brown with speckles of white and large splotches of white over his muzzle and on his hooves and fetlocks

Mane/Tail: Short, cropped, pale dusty mane. Wears his tail a bit longer but not by much.

Physique: While not extravagantly buff, Boots has a good amount of muscle on him. His build seeming to be mostly for running on hoof and endurance rather than any incredible feat of strength.

Residence: A small apartment in Manehattan

Occupation: Street detective for the MPD

Cutie Mark: A police badge with a shine on it.

Since Boots was a little colt, he has always been willing to go the extra mile to follow through on what he believes is right and wrong.

One day when he was riding along on a scooter down Manehattan’s busy streets. He saw a mare steal an apple from a street vendor. The plucky little colt then went on a long, long chase that took him across the city as he chased after the villainous mare.  Eventually he caught her returning to her lair (apartment) and waited all night in his first unofficial stake out. The day when the mare in question came out he leapt from his hiding place and yelled out, “Citizen’s arrest!” and told her she’d pay for her crimes against that fruit stand owner.

Then it turned out that she’d been having an off day and she forgot to pay. That day he’d warily watched the mare come back and pay the price… and gave her a hug about how awesome it was she’d changed her ways. It was then that his mark appeared.

Unique Traits:

Sturdy Cop: While Boots is not overly strong, he is a very tough pony. Not tough as in he could easily shrug off any punch given to him by any culprit as if nothing happened, but tough in that no matter how hard he's hit he will get up as many times as he can in order to bring the culprit in. This has been pointed out to him as possibly one of the least useful traits to have for the sake of self preservation but if there's a chance he can make a difference for the better in a situation. The force knows that they can count on his foolhardy head to give it his all.. and likely spend weeks in the hospital afterwards.

Keen Eye for Detail: Boots has a talent for quickly locating important clues in crime scenes. He seems to be able to process information faster when investigating things in hindsight and able to accurately deduce the occurrence of events in any crime scene. This however doesn't give him any information beyond  what happened, it doesn't tell him who did what or why so it still will require further investigation; he has saved the force a bundle on magical forensic analysis lately though!

History:

Born to a cab puller pony and a low ranking member of the royal guard, Bell Boots got his name from his coat pattern as over his legs it looked like he was stuck wearing a pair if his namesake over both his hind and forelegs. His tendency to try and fiddle with the only part of his father's armor that he could reach as a foal probably contributed to the naming process as well.

As a colt he loved comics superheros and detective stories and mysteries. These things likely helped shape him into the stallion he became today and as a result he tends to take them a touch more seriously than one might expect. His decision to become a police officer came when he was given a police themed scooter for his birthday. His parents received quite a few complaints when he left sticky note, unofficial parking tickets on the scooters and skateboards of other ponies in his class and tended to pretend to be a junior detective and help find missing dolls, and toys and things like that. Eventually he had to tone that down for the sake of harmony in the classroom but he never forgot the clear sens of wright and wrong he felt since he got it.

The day he'd earned his mark he was given a special gift from his parents; a police whistle (actually just a normal whistle his parent's told him was the type that police officers blew)! While he thanked them for it he told them that he wasn't ever gonna use it until he became a real police officer.

Boots spent years and threw himself deep into his training as a police officer. He took all of the martial art classes and learned a variety of holds and ways to restrain the criminals manehattan (although rarely) had prowling it's street. In regards to his physical performance it was stated his abundant energy and stubborn tendency to not give up a chase got him to the top in regards to the physical portion that revolved around cardio, however he's at best average in regards to physical strength; even for an earth pony. His tests in regards to mental, and analysis of crime scenes seemed to be uncannily high.

In his time as a police stallion, Boots has shown an unhinderable willingness to go above and beyond his duties in order to do what the right thing. No problem for him is too big or too small in his mind, and he says in the bigger scheme it doesn't matter if he can't do it; what matters is he gives it his all. This philosophy was put on display most notably for the rest of his dept during the Tirek incident. Even when he was the first one drained of magic in his office during that terrifying time, many other officers have said they saw him repeatedly dragging himself over to wrap his hooves around the centaur's leg and attempting to state to him his rights up to seven times before he eventually passed out from exhaustion from being thrown across a room nonchalantly several times.

Once he'd gotten his magic back he seemed to take to his job with a new zeal and went on to work on and solve several high profile cases of thievery in Manehattan, earned more than a few commendations and was promoted to detective. The new position didn't get him off the street though, which was great for him as that was where he loved to be most. Helping ponies and being in his mind what a good cop needs to be.

Character Summary:

Cheery, bouncy, good hearted: all are good ways to describe Boots on his good days, and usually just the last one on his bad days. Quite a few call him a bit of a goody four shoes for always trying to do every good and helpful thing he can on his way to the work. He was once late to an assembly because he was busy trying to retrieve a little filly's pet cat from a tree, showing up shortly after looking like he'd been mauled by the world's tiniest tiger. On his best days the young stallion usually has a bright happy grin and pep in his step that only fades when he needs to act and chase down somepony.

Despite his zealousness in regards to catching the crooks he goes after, he always is rather kind to them after bringing them in. Strangely enough he has good relations with most of those he's caught and even has helped some of them out once they finish paying their debt to society. He's even pen-pals with a few of them.

One of the things that Boots has a bit of difficulty with is appearing as most ponies would think is "professional". He's almost always peppy, cheery, goofy, and other two syllable words that could be associated with quirky, including quirky. Other things that seem to cause friction with others would be his nosy tendencies were if he sees someone sad or in trouble he'll go out of his way to help them in whatever way he can, this is a trait that has earned him a couple complaints of ponies and other folks who don't appreciate that sort of overeager friendliness.

while it's usually hard to get on Boots' bad side there is one way to get him steaming; using his full name or just the first part of it. No matter how much his parent's protest it's a wonderful name he's always been rather embarrassed by it an only likes to be called "Boots"
