Raven kept a close eye on the thaumeter, noticing it going up as Icy powered up her orbs, before a weird pushing sensation pressed against her horn and caused a headache. The meter topped out for a brief second, and then plummeted. "That... Was interesting..." She said, as she turned around, noticing the broken crystal. Just her luck, it was the Canterlot crystal... Maybe the princess would let her get a fresh one, but she didn't have high hopes. However, she was paying more attention to Myth at the moment. Something seemed off, and her suspicion was proved correct when Myth stated she couldn't see. She quickly put aside any worries about the crystal as she followed Icy and Myth.

Myth was only vaguely aware of being picked up. She had become so encompassed in her fear of total blindness that she'd forgotten her friends that were in the room with her. she felt Icy's body beneath her as she carried her down the hall. She listened and heard Raven's breathing as she followed closely. Myth took a deep breath a smiled. She'd only met these ponies rather briefly at the Hearth's Warming party in Ponyville. Yet somehow, she felt a sense of trust in these two that she hadn't felt for anypony since... well, since before she broke her trust. Myth leaned down and hugged Icy's neck as she moved along down the hall. "Thank you, Icy. Raven." she added the name in the general direction where she heard her breathing coming from, speaking calmly and softly "I'm okay. You can put me down." she began to slide herself off of Icy's back, hoping she'd be stopped by the time she stood on the floor. Her vision still completely gone, she still showed a great deal of nervousness and apprehension, but much less than she had in the lab earlier.

~~~Ice Storm~~~
Ice Storm continued her rush towards the infirmary. After hearing that Myth couldn't see at all now she didn't want to take any chances. She heard Myth start to say that she was okay and that they could put her down now. She felt her start to slide but she could stop see the tension and the worry in her eyes, making Icy slide her back up with her magic. "You're not going to be for long if you keep trying to get off my back without knowing where the ground is, but I promise you that you will be. We'll make sure of that. Just... please don't try to get off until you can see again,"she said slowing down as the approached the doors. "We don't need your getting hurt and there's a lot of things here that can do that," she said as they got into the room.
"Commander!" The medic pony yelled.
"There was an accident in the lab. Myth needs your help. An overloaded crystal exploded," she replied as the medic started taking a look at her.
Raven hurried with, wincing every now and then as her head exploded in pain from the headache. "Trust me, Just let Icy do her thing... You can't talk her out of being protective when she gets like this." She said, a soft smile on her face as she helped to hold Myth on Icy's back. "Besides, that was basically a magic surge... While most are harmless... I've heard stories of ponies being turned into plants from some of the more powerful ones. You may feel fine now, but have polka dots in a day or so." She continued, right as they passed into the med bay. "To elaborate, She saw a resonance between the Canterlot crystal, and the commander, and wanted to try something out. There was some kind of magic surge, and the crystal was shattered on the ground. Her sight that allows her to see while being blind is now gone." She said, still wincing. Oddly enough, the feeling was starting to remind her of when she'd overtax herself trying to learn a new spell.
Myth smiled as she resigned herself to assistance, hugging Icy's neck again. "Thank you, guys. I really appreciate your concern."
Myth giggled when Raven suggested Myth could end up polka dotted.
After Raven explained in more detail what she knew and suspected about what happened, Myth perked up. That's right, there were things to tell the others about. Important things. "There's not going to be anything they can do about my vision. Trust me, I know. But i do have a minor aether burn on my hoof they might as well bandage while I'm here." she explained. She sighed "I'm fine, guys. Really." she turned her head down "I just.... hope it's not permanent is all... this has happened before, and every time, I'm just.... terrified of losing it forever." she raised her head again "but having you two here is helping me stay calm. Normally, I'd just be.... well, let's just say last time, I didn't do so well." she smiled "But that's not important, right now! I've gotta tell you guys what I saw!"
~~~Ice Storm~~~

Ice Storm smiled briefly as she felt Myth just hug around her neck. Raven was right in what she said. Once she got in her protective mode, there was nothing short of death or rescue that would actually get her out of it. The last time that she had a pony on her back though running though a hallway like this though was right after Twilight was blown unconscious during the invasion of the Red Jarl. At least Myth is alert and conscious. Still, she would need to know where the ground was at the moment in order for her to be able to walk rough now.

The nurse pony that was in the room with them listened to everything that both Ice Storm and Raven had told her nodding as they spoke. She could already tell that the patient was blind and probably had been for some while. This meant that she probably had an alternative method of vision in order for her to be able to be affected by complete blindness as they were saying. As they continued, they confirmed her suspicions saying that Myth, which Myth herself confirmed, saw by using magic, but in that she could also see magic. She herself said that she had a minor aether burn on her hoof that they could bandage while they were here. She also explained that this loss of sight has happened before and every time it happens she gets more and more worried that it won't come back.

The nurse nodded and began wrapping the aforementioned hoof in a wrap with a special burn agent specifically meant for aether burn. It was a bit different from a normal burn after all, and normal burn cream my sooth the pain but won't actually help at all otherwise. "Alright Miss, this is going to sting for a bit while it works, but it also has a numbing agent in it, so it should only sting for a couple minutes or so," she said as she continued.

It was that point that Ice Storm heard Myth say that having the two of them around was helping her to stay calm. She said that normally... well, the last time it happened it didn't go over well. she quickly said that all of that wasn't important though. Apparently what she had seen before her aether vision went away, was important. "Oh? what did you see?" she asked her. If they could at least get some information from it, then this little setback wasn't in vain.

"Happened before? Hmm..." Raven said, thinking about it... She had a theory, but first, she needed to confirm it. "I want to test something in a bit, but we can wait till you're better... Wait, you saw something?" She continued, switching gears. She didn't want to hurt Myth, but the small amount of training she'd done with the rest of STAR's forces had, from the unicorns, given her an idea of what her shadowsun was... and if Myth had that happen to her before, she'd be able to confirm it, but she'd need to be healthy for the test. She started to get excited, before she realized something. If she did the test... it could really hurt and frighten Myth... Her ears dropped as she thought about it. She'd need to talk to Icy about it first...

Myth winced audibly when the nurse but the aether burn cream on her hoof. She bit her lip just holding back an obscenity. Her magic sensitivity was probably making its effect more intense on her than most. A moment later, the numbing agent began to take effect and the pain subsided. Tho something remained. She stared in the direction of her hoof. Still blinded, she couldn't see, but she was focused on the sensation she was feeling. Like cream was pulling foreign magic out of her. She marveled at the stake feeling for only a moment before she shook herself free of its captivation.

"Oh yeah. Sorry the thing! I think I may have solved the horn problem! ....maybe. I think. It'll still take a lot of experimenting to get it just right, but—" she stopped herself "There was something in that Canterlot crystal. It wasn't the main component, but something in it. It reacted to the presence of Icy's powered orbs." she turned to where she thought Icy was, which was a little too the side of where she actually was "It was reacting to your magic, but I only saw it because of the orbs. I mean, I'm sure I would've noticed it, eventually, but that's beside the point. Those crystals have properties I haven't seen before. Well... not in crystals, anyway." she got more excited as she spoke, and now she smiled "You weren't far off, Icy. We should be looking at natural horns. but it isn't the calcium carbonate. At least, not only. It came to me when Raven was talking about resonance. I'm not sure what it is, exactly, but horns have... something in them different from bone. It facilitates the condensation of magic from inside the pony until it can be focused." she pointed at her own horn "The, uh... swirlies. they serve more purpose than just looks. I've known this for some time. Anyway, whatever it is, that Canterlot crystal has the same properties. It's just.... a bit too good at it. I'm sure if we found the right balance of calcium carbonate and this crystal, we would get the result we're looking for. Guys." she smiled wide as she tried futily to look for her two friends "I can feel it. We're really close with this. It might actually be possible!" she giggled excitedly having all but forgotten her fear of blindness for the time being.

~~~Ice Storm~~~
Ice watched as Myth visibly winced from the sauce being put on her. With her being extra sensative to magic it wasn't surprising to her that she was extra sensative to reagents that helped with aether burn. Her thoughts were them taken else where as Myth spoke about what she saw. Apparently there was a reaction with the Canterlot crystal and the spheres that she had. It rather it was reacting to get magic in general. That was a good sign. That meant that there might be something that they can focus on.
My also said that they were on the right track, but that horns were just a tad bit different than normal bone, and that the swirls on them actually mattered. She said that the profile with the crystal was that it was too good at done what they needed it to do at the moment, but if they combined the calcium carbonate with this crystal in the right amount, that it should create the desired effect. That was both good and bad news.
"That's great news! But also not so great news at the same time. Mining in the crystal caves beneath Canterlot have been restricted because further mining could compromise the integrity of can Canterlot's foundation. The slightest misstep could send the entire city tumbling down the mountainside. However, finding loose crystals of varying sizes on the cave floor is easy. If we could figure out a way to sure up Canterlot's foundation without costing the ponies that live there all their hooves to do so, then mining might be an option again. There's also the caves in the Frozen North that already house aetherically charged crystals. In fact they are the exact same crystals that my spheres were made from. So they could prove to be a valuable resource to. However, they are sealed preventing access to them after discovering there after ponies in the Frozen North that might harbor Ill intentions for Equestria," she commented. She knew that was likely the answer they now sought, but opening that you was dangerous and they had no way of safely mining already charged crystals.
"Yeah... That was a really rare crystal, but it's not that important... I mean... I'm sure Princess Twilight will be willing to help us acquire a new one... Heck, she may even want to hear reports on our progress... From what I heard of her back when she was just Princess Celestia's student, she was an avid scholar." Raven said, smiling slightly as she tried to downplay just how rare that crystal was. It was easy to find lose crystals, but ones like that one, due to size and quality, was a little harder to find. "And yep! It's great to know that my time hasn't been wasted. I mean, I figured, thanks to enchantments and other factors like Icy's spheres, that it'd be possible, but... From what I gather, it's almost a completely new field of research..." She sighed slightly. "But all that can be dealt with later. How bout we finish the tour, once you're up to it, and go wind down in one of the restaurants up top?"
Myth shook her head "Unfortunately, the crystals your orbs are made of won't work. They seem to work well as magic reservoirs, but what we need is a catalyst for the magic in a pony's body. Any existing magic in the crystal will only serve to interfere with your own magic. It's probably one of the reasons why the crystal overloaded. What we need is pure unblemished crystals with no existing charge. I have a few other ideas that may help the crystals take, but that's further down the road. As it is, what we need to do is acquire more crystals like the one I broke, equally pure calcium carbonate and a spell to combine them without charging it, which might be difficult. We will need a number of the crystals cause.... I don't yet know what combination of the two will do the best. We'll have to basically guess." myth smiled when Raven mentioned the tour she was meant to be doing. She'd completely forgotten about that with all the excitement. New magic discoveries tended to do that to her. Then she frowned "I-I uh... still can't see, but...." her face filled with pleading and not a small amount of shame "I-if somepony can guide me, I'd love to still do my tour.... it has been a long time, but I should still be able to remember directions without sight."
~~~Ice Storm~~~

Ice Storm frowned a bit when she heard that the crystals she had wouldn't work. That they were good for storing and amplifying magic, but not really focusing it. She supposed that made sense. She still used her horn to focus the magic and use her spells, but the spheres made them that much more powerful. Still, it did make things a bit harder. Finding a pure unblemished crystal that's untouched by magic could prove to be difficult, but not impossible. That might help out though cause if it could be any crystal and not just a Canterlot crystal in the right combination, then they wouldn't have to mine. She would have to talk with Candice or Shining Armor andv see if she could get a shipment of pure crystals from the Crystal Empire. If anyplace would have access to a large number of crystals like that, it would be the country that's literally made from crystal. "Raven, I think we need to revisit those crystals from the empire. Perhaps with the calcium instead of the precious metals they will be more receptive," she told her.

When Myth said that she'd love to continue the tour, but she couldn't see and would have to be guided, she smiled and then looked to Raven with a nod. "We can most definitely do that for your. Just stay close to us and you'll be fine. I promise. That being said, well, this is the infirmary. This is where we'll go if things like what just happened happen. Unless we're in the casino, them we'll go to LPMC. They are actually just a bit better equipped that I am. Most of our medical equipment is second hoof. Without actually being a hospital, they wouldn't let me buy brand new," she explained. "Still more than enough to patch a pony together from minor injuries and illnesses." She said starting to move towards the door moving just in front of Myth. "When you're ready, well good ahead and move to the next section," she smiled.

Raven nodded. "Yeah, it's possible." She said, before looking at Myth. "I'll follow behind, just in case." She continued once the infirmary had been explained. She hoped that her soft smile came though on her voice, and that Myth's sight returned soon. She couldn't imagine how worried and terrified she must be...

Myth carefully climbed down from the hospital bed, probing the floor with her hooves before standing. The aether burn cream stuff seemed to be doing its thing as she hardly felt any effect from that burn at all. She reached out for Icy, and felt around the air until she found her, smiling as she felt her way to her head "Sorry, I'm... not really used to getting around this way anymore." she turned toward Raven's voice, and smiled in her direction before turning back to Icy "I-I uh.... I mean is it okay if I...." she blushed as she explainef "It's just, back when I was blind, I would hold onto my mom's mane in my teeth...." she scratched the back of her head

Ice Storm smiled back to the mare behind her and gave her a reassuring nuzzle. "IF that will make it easier for you, and make you more comfortable, then you may do so," she smiled as they left the infirmary. There were some concerned looks towards them, but none of them looked to be anything more than that. Seeing their commander rushing to the infirmary probably caused a bit of a stir, and many ponies that were looking on were waiting to see if Myth would be okay. Most of them realized that something had happened, but wasn't entirely sure what. The presumed that it was okay now though since everypony involved had calmed down at least a bit. "Where would you like to go now?" she asked Myth before looking back to Raven. "What areas do you think she might be interested in Raven?"

"Hmm... Well, she might be interested in the training rooms, oh, and maybe the control center... Oh! What about the library? Wait... that might not be the best place..." Raven said, forgetting for a second that even if Myth had her sight back, she still was blind when it came to books. She smiled sheepishly, and giggled softly. "Actually, it'll have to wait till tomorrow, but what about the hanger?"

Myth grabbed Icy's mane, and took to following like a fish to water. She seemed to still be able to take cues quickly despite not having done this in many years. With the mane in her teeth, she followed as Icy asked Raven for suggestions. She nearly dropped Icy's mane as she giggled at Raven's mention of the library. She spoke with very minimal effect from having her mouth full of hair.

"The hanger?" she asked, stifling laughter "is it a magical hanger? cause in that case we really should wait for tomorrow. It'll look much more interesting when I get my sight back." she giggled again "I could listen to the training ponies in the training rooms. I might even be able to feel something if they're casting spells."

Ice felt Myth grab onto her main and she was following without any real need for direction. She listened as Raven said that she might be interesting in the control rooms and the training rooms. She also briefly thought about the library as a point of interest before remembering Myth's condition. Althought she did know that Equestrian officials had a habit of encoding magical messages into documents. Taking Myth to the library when she has her magic sight available to her could provide them with insight that they might not have had otherwise. She also mentioned the hanger. The hanger would be a good place to take her.

"Well, the hanger is where we were building the pinnacle flagship of STAR, and what will become the Flagship of Equestria. She actually should be back from her testing mission within the next few hours so we'll have to go there anyway to get a report and make sure nothing was damaged from it's testing. The library is actually a better idea than you think, but it would need to wait until Myth Recovers. Many ponies like to encode magic onto their documents. So with her we can figure out which ones have been enchanted and what messages these hidden enchantments contain," she said as her stomach gave a very loud growl. The mention of lunch earlier reminded her that it's been a bit since she'd eaten today. She would have to fix that. "That being said, waiting until tomorrow to take care of the rest of the tour otherwise sounds like a great idea. Or at least waiting until Myth has recovered enough to actually be able to take in the tour. Some lunch sounds amazing right now." she smiled with a small blush from her growling stomach.

"Well, I would suggest that noodle shop we ate at my first day... but it might be a little messy... How bout the hayburger place? Wait! Better idea! We take Myth up, and whatever smells good to her?" Raven said, smiling softly. She stood close to Myth, trying to be a gentle presence as she waited for Myth's input. She couldn't help but wish she could do something to help Myth's sight return quicker, especially since it was her equipment and lab that caused it...

Myth seemed ever so slightly disappointed that neither of her friends got her joke, but that was okay. When Icy suggested the library wasn't necessarily a bad idea, Myth couldn't stop her eyes from rolling before she explained that some of the books might have magic in them that went heretofore unnoticed. To which Myth paused for half a second before she started walking again "You know what?" she said smiling slightly at the thought of a book that actually told her something "You might be on to something, there. I never considered that possibility before."

It was at that point that Icy voice her desire for food. or rather her stomach did the voicing for her. Myth stifled a giggle "I agree. something to eat would be welcome, indeed." When Raven suggested they follow Myth's nose up on the street, she smiled wide "That sounds like a fantastic idea! I've heard good things about Las Pegasus street food."

~~~Ice Storm~~~
Ice Storm smiled as Myth seemed to enjoy the idea of being able to get information from a book. For most ponies it seemed like a trivial task, but for a pony that's never had the gift of sight, it's quite an accomplishment indeed. That works have to wait though, as Ice Storm's stomach wasn't getting and quieter and she listened to Raven start suggesting places before saying they should let Myth pick and to lead them to something that smelled good.
Myth seemed to agree with that herself, saying t that she had heard good things about Las Pegasus street food. "Yeah, all of the food here is pretty amazing. It has to be to keep up with each other. A restaurant or cart with poor taste won't last long," Ice Storm said as she started leading them outside. "Alrighty Myth, lead the way," Ice said with a smile. It was a bit warmer outside than she liked it too be, but she also didn't care much for any temperature above freezing so she didn't really get to complain too much.
Raven followed them out, smiling as she stayed near Myth, making sure she didn't get lost. She nodded. "Yeah, It's like the restaurants in Canterlot. Aside from the main ones, the others have to be something special or they get ran out." She said, her mood improving a bit since they were outside.
  • 2 weeks later...
Myth stepped out the front door of Icy's casino, and the rush of fresh air was like a sudden wave of euphoria. Myth couldn't help but smile. The feeling she'd had when her sight left her was all but gone, and she could feel her long time friend again. In the breeze, in the warm rays of Celesti— or rather Twilight's sun, even the ground beneath her hooves. She took a deep breath and smiled wide "Hello, again." she whispered. She giggled quietly and bounced up and down as she spoke "Now, where are we going, today?" she closed her unseeing eyes, and sniffed the air, turning her head this way and that, her ears swiveling at the sounds. She could hear the fire dancing street performer she'd seen earlier today on her way here. She decided she'd like to pass by there while she kept sniffing for something that stood out. She had started moving in the direction of the sounds of the fire dancer, when she smelled it. Now that was something she hadn't smelled before! She sniffed. She smiled "Now, that's interesting" she said aloud "Do you smell that? It's over this way!" she pointed and began walking.
====
Smokey Coals stood at his booth, smiling at the ponies going by. He was new to the street vendor life, but so far, he'd loved every minute of it. He twirled his spatula in his magic, whistling a cheerful tune as he worked. The vegetables on his grill were unique, and not exactly local. His specialty being foreign  foods, today his selection came mostly from Whitescar. It was an interesting assortment of foods to work with, but he loved a good challenge. The spices he was using were mostly from Neighpon, but some were Unyasan spices that helped to give his food a little culture. He lifted one such spice up to his nose and sniffed it, thinking to himself before he sprinkled a bit on the Beet slices he was grilling. He was so engrossed in his work, he almost didn't notice the trio of unicorns who wandered, quite literally, into his stall until one of them bumped into his table.
"Ow!" she exclaimed. He smiled and looked at the three of them with genuine interest. These three seemed interesting already. He knew unique when he saw it, and these were definitely that. "Hello, friends!" he greeted "Smoky's ma' name, grillin's ma' game! I was just workin' on a new recipe! If you'd like, I'll share the first taste with you on the house!" he winked.
Ice Storm started following Myth as she started to sniff around for lunch. There were a lot of good smells that were floating around the streets of Las Pegasus right now, as there were several stalls that were competing not only against each other, but the big chain restaurants inside the casinos as well. She wasn't exactly sure where they were going until everything started to move briefly in slow motion. Myth was about to run into the cart! How could Icy had been so foolish to let Myth get so far out in front of her. She tried to stop, but the resounding ow that she heard from Myth made her ears droop. "Myth, I'm so sorry, I should have been paying more attention..." Icy said in appology to the mare before turning to the cook who had greeted them.
When he told her that he was trying a new recipe, and the first bit was on the house Ice Storm nodded. "I think that honor should go to my friend here, whom I accidentally let walk right into you stall. I'm super sorry about that as well. IF anything is damages, I'll take care of it," she added with a smile.
Raven winced slightly as Myth bumped into the little serving table the vendor had. "I agree... It's her first time in Las Pegasus, so we wanted to show her the best parts of the city, like the street vendors such as yourself." Raven said, taking Myth and guiding her to a nearby stool. She took the stool next to her, and smiled at Smokey. She waited for Myth to get the taste test, looking at Smokey's menu as she did.
