Spoilers are anything that gives away anything from anything, and thereby detracts from the experience. You can say "Oh, but I didn't give away the plot" or something lame, but so what? Do you watch a movie solely for the plot? I'd think not, you're there for the acting, the jokes, the music, everything, everything that makes the plot so much more than just words on a page. If it's from something someone hasn't seen yet, it's a spoiler, even if it gives away next to nothing, it's still a spoiler, that's just how it works. Avoid spoiling things. Even if they're getting a bit older, you should still be careful, because it can ruin someone's day when they accidentally catch something big for a show they were planning to watch, and it can get annoying when people don't use things like spoilers to put potential spoilers in and then make navigating a thread akin to navigating a minefield. Saying nothing about what happened doesn't mean you didn't ruin those references, now it's just "Look for how many you can find!" instead of "Naturally enjoy the episode!" and even then, it's like saying "There's a joke about Sonic the Hedgehog in the new Flash episode!" even if you don't give away the joke, you still give the joke away, which makes it way less special when it actually happens. People who think they don't do anything wrong because they didn't spoil the plot don't understand what a spoiler even is.
