The french dub of MLP:FIM

I don't know if you know about it but there is a French dub of MLP:FIM.

I prefer the original voice but here come the link.

I've saw these a few weeks ago. Sounds good to me (how can anyone doubt that Trixie would not sound good in French, though? ). I should take French lessons one day to see how well the translation is.

Every episode for the first season has been dubbed (the Danish and Italian dubs have also finished with the first season).

I catch some French words "soungs cogget madam!" but a lot of voices sound like Pinkie's , so I'm expecting a very shallow cast of VA's

Rainbow dash's voice is kinda strange, but I like listening to it

Agh ! I prefer the original voices too. I feel they don't exactly fit the ponies' personalities ; they should have worked on the names too, not traducing them makes them sounds foreign or something (which they are).

Also, since I live in France, I always have the impression of hearing the same voices over and over in the cartoons ! Hire more people, you could really use a bit more voice diversity and it will help a bit with lowering the number of people without a job ! xD

So yeah, I don't like 'em. I always like to hear the original voices when I can anyways.

As a french-enough speaker (not fluent but comfortable listening to it) I agree the voices just sound.. off. Fluttershy is good WHEN SHE'S NOT SINGING, Pinkie sounds too old, Dash sounds too young (like a little boy rather than a tomboy sometimes), Applejack.. I don't even know what they're attempting with her voice half the time. Twilight and Rarity are neutral for me though I'm not thrilled with Rarity's voice, but only because the english actress is SO expressive.

I guess the other niggle is as good as the localization is, some things just didn't work in the French. 'You're going to LOVE ME' translating to 'do you LOVE ME?' doesn't have the same ring for example . (Though I'm singing "L'hiver s'enfuit" RIGHT NOW in spite of how wrongly they translated that.. even totally mutilated that is SUCH A CATCHY TUNE isn't it?)

I haven't seen enough english cartoons then ! I was under the impression that there was a bit more diversity, especially considering they did more original cartoons (the french don't do many things really).

And yes, traductions are always worse than the original text. There are puns you simply can't traduce, poor wordings sometimes, and it's hard to get the exact same effect. But that's not a big problem, at least not as much as the voices they chose ! (I think I just really dislike them xD)
