tacobob
If you're right, the case shouldn't hold up in court.Well, not only were they using the 'Hobbit' name, they were also using names of the characters and even photos of the actors from the movies as well, which is also a major no-no.. Rosewind
The Hobbit movie was in development heck for several years over copyright issues, or we'd have seen a release already. The fact they're suing the Hobbit pub after being in business for two decades because of the movie release is ridiculous. That said, there's really no reason to boycott the movie over it -- just don't support the merchandizing by that company suing the Pub. tacobob
Yeah, I thought it was silly that they'd wait so long to do so, but like I said. You don't protect your copyright. You loose it. And Hobbit was in DH for abit considering what they did to Peter Jackson, which happens ALOT in Hollywood. A movie will make a TON OF money, but when the people who actually made the movie hold out their hands for their $$$, the studio usually comes up with paperwork saying the movie actually lost money... Tenkan
THE BEST THING I'VE SEEN ALL WEEK!!!
Rosewind
I love it. It looks very tongue-in-cheek while still keeping that epic LotR feeling. Excitement!
Bellosh
Wow, the trailer looks quite awesome! I'm very excited now to see it on opening day.
TheInvisiblePony
This movie looks absolutely fantastic in every sense of the word! I'm looking forward to seeing the riddle game on the big screen!
Tenkan
"Home is behind you, the world ahead." - GandalfDid anyone notice how that line Gandalf said is almost the exact same line from Pippin's song that he sang to King Denathor? Cadabra
I love these movies so much, but all the behind the scenes footage is even better. Being a videographer, the how it's made videos for these movies is like porn to me. I adore small details, so as you can image I fell that much more in love with these movies after watching these. I really admire the critical eye Peter Jackson has for his Lord of the Rings films, so I can not wait to see The Hobbit.
Chapien
I'm pretty happy they are making this into a trilogy! It means they won't miss anything - I'm still rather disappointed at how much the LOTR movies had to ultimately leave out (Tom D: ), though the extended editions fixed most of this (still no Tom, though). But now with three parts, they have no excuse!
tacobob
Now I'm hearing they're gonna do extended versions like they did with the LOTR movies. Good gravy! It's a 300 page book! They're gonna have to be adding all kinds of stuff to the story...
Bellosh
Question: can you get cutie marks for thread resurrection? On-topic: got back from The Hobbit a few hours ago. I liked it for the most part, even if certain sections feel too padded and such.
starswirlthebearded
Was certainly padded. But still a good movie... My major complaints are as follows:Parts with Radagast I remember not occurring at all. He was merely mentioned as Gandalf's cousin. The Necromancer of Dol Guldur was merely mentioned in The Hobbit. I don't recall having a huge role. And that was also known long before the Hobbit occurred. The adventure of the Hobbit occurred in TA 2900s. The Necromancer appeared and the council first convened about it in TA 1050-2000 (IIRC). And Radagast was uninvolved. The battle with the orcs and wolves a top trees... Only wolves were there at first, the orcs came later. And there was no battle. The Eagles came and rescued them without the party having to fight. The orcs were content with letting the fire kill them as well. Azog was killed by Dain during the War of Dwarves and Orcs. Thorin Oakenshield DID get the name Oakenshield during that war for the reasons they showed. But Azog should NOT have been the main antagonist. He should have been known to be dead at the hands of Dain. However there was a LOT of good! They showed history (though some inaccurate, see spoiler if you are REALLY curious). I loved the music, and the songs were BRILLIANTLY done. And they kept in one of my favorite parts. I can't wait for part two. Consequently I am wondering what Stephen Colbert's cameo will be like...I'm actually terrified about the extended editions. This was already a bit oddly cut I felt to add time. Maybe the extended edition will fix that? I hope...But then what will be put in? I just don't know.
Bellosh
I assume that the reason Azog in the movie survived the War was because the filmmakers didn't want to introduce both him and his son Bolg (who dies in the Battle of the Five Armies). So they combined the two characters instead.

That is just lazy to me.
Rosewind
I have mixed thoughts on this, more about it being a trilogy than anything else. I wasn't expecting it, and when the movie ended, I was a bit stunned. It was still a fun movie, but got a bit tiresome with the similar scene-to-scene adventure and very little quarter for changing up the formula after several hours. TheInvisiblePony
I must say I enjoyed the film, although I must say I wasn't watching to pick out differences, and it has been a while since I last read the book. That said, I loved the riddle game, and the Great Goblin was fantastic even though he didn't get much screen time. The riddle game, despite my inadequate memories of the book, did play out differently, rather so I noticed it. Can't say I hated the rendition, it was awesome, but that leaves two or three main things I was looking forward not happening won't happen until parts 2 and 3. I really wanted to see Bilbo stab some spiders, and I still cannot wait to see Smaug's taunt. Good Celestia is he awe-inspiring. Heck, Smaug is such a dragon, he's the dragon other dragons wish they could be.My thoughts on the trilogy: I guess I can see why they'd split it, it is kind of an epic romp around Middle Earth I suppose, although three parts may have them stretching out some scenes, so lets hope that they're amazingAnd my last thoughts: Dr. Watson makes an excellent Hobbit.
Tenkan
Review time!It feels so good to be back to Middle Earth, and Peter Jackson made me feel at home as the entire movie was completely indulgent to the magical world.I have to admit, though, the theme is a lot merrier and a lot more magical than Lord of the Rings.I assume because in Lord of the Rings all of Middle Earth is at stake and the magical realm is either mostly dying or dead (poor Ents), and the Hobbit is based not on politics, but on this quest to save the mountain. Also, seeing Bilbo living through the tales that he spoke of made me feel all warm inside. Especially since they looked so epic in contrast to how he'd humbly give little hints or references to 'his little adventures'.Bilbo's character is the most one I enjoyed. Modest and brave. My complaints?- CGI looked different from Lord of the Rings (except for Gollum, he looked if not the same then better)- As a set alone film (pushing off my love for Middle Earth and the Lord of the Rings films to back it up) it does lack an ultimate climax, since the many other previous epic fights had slightly numbified the 'final battle scene'.- I really wished we had more of a chance to get to know the dwarves at a personal level, when they're not too busy adventuring the whole time.Awesome scenes?- The Necromancer's appearance! I loved that! It freaked the heck out of me in the cinema, that's for sure. I can't wait to see more of Sauron's power growing throughout the story.- The meeting between Gandalf, Elrond, Lady Galadriel and Saruman. The whole time I'm going all "Saruman is such a faker!" D:- The brilliant intro! I just loved the beginning. It took its' time, but it was very well done, I believe. From the prologue and after, with the dwarves stopping by Bilbo's little hobbit hole. - The whole movie, perhaps?
