Character Summary:

Peridot Darling was born in the rural Ponyville. Though she was born in a small town, she's always been a city girl. Boasting about being destined for bigger and better things when she was a young filly, Peridot Darling always wanted to be the talk of the town. But if it was one thing that interested Peridot the most, it was fashion. Though she admired ornate gowns and decadent jewelry, it was often the style of manes and tails that caught Peridot's eye. From cheeky up-do's and free-flowing locks, Peridot wanted to learn how to make mane's into beautiful works of art. As a young filly, she'd style her doll's hair and practice that way. But when she'd require more than just strings of yarn, Peridot's mother and father soon became her test subjects.

Peridot's family is a small one, consisting of two caring parents and a younger brother. Her mother and father, Winter Breeze and Fishline are both fisher-ponies. Being the eldest, Peridot was often responsible for looking after her younger brother. He too fell victim to Peridot's early experiments. Peridot's parents have always been open and nurturing when it came to her passion. They helped her anyway they could, even if it meant sporting a new hairdo. Peridot Darling still lives with her parents, and baby-sits her younger brother while they're away at work.

During a styling competition, Peridot was up against more seasoned mane-dressers. Undeterred, Peridot Darling wanted to show the judges what she could do. However, when the winner was announced, Peridot didn't win. Disappointed, Peridot was about to give up. But the judges weren't done, and when Peridot received an honorable mention, her spark was reinvigorated. So she didn't win, but that didn't mean her work was bad. Inspired to continue on, Peridot Darling promised she'd keep working at her craft until she became the very best in all Equestria.

Peridot Darling is a very proud pony, and it shows. She can sometimes be a little arrogant, and slow to accept new ideas. She's stubborn in her ways, and loves being proven right. Peridot is quick tempered, especially after taking a hit to her ego. Though she's far from being cold or mean, she can be a little rude when dealing with somepony who goes against her. For the most part, Peridot is friendly and talkative. She's definitely got spunk, and would be entirely likeable if it weren't for her condescending attitude. It's something she's working on, but it's proving to be harder than she imagined. For the most part, Peridot Darling is set in her ways. As long as she's in a good mood, she's amiable and quirky.

Additional Information:

This is pretty much just a longer version of what I wrote:

Although Peridot has always been confident in what she's wanted to do with her life, it wasn't until she was a filly when received her Cutie Mark. Peridot Darling and her family took a trip to Canterlot to attend a fashion showcase. Peridot was amazed when she saw such elaborate designs and elegant hairdo's. And, as a special treat to all the attendee's, they welcomed all ponies to compete in a quick competition. Peridot needed no more convincing to enter, and she was excited to see how she stacked up against everypony else. Among the other contestants were more seasoned veterans, but that didn't deter Peridot one bit. She was determined to leave her mark. With her scissors and all her knowledge on mane-dressing, Peridot gave it her all. When the time was up, and the judge made their rounds, Peridot Darling was confident she'd win. However, when the trophy was handed to somepony else, Peridot felt utterly defeated. But the judge weren't done yet, and along with a few others, received an honorable mention. Though she didn't win, Peridot was still proud of her work. She gave it her all, and the fact that the judge were impressed by her work gave Peridot the confidence she needed. From that moment on, she vowed to continue working on her craft until she was worthy of first place. And before everypony who attended, Peridot Darling's Cutie Mark appeared.

And this explains her fear of water:

One summer day, when Peridot Darling was just a young filly, she and a few of her friends visited the Great Nimbusgait Lakes. It was a hot day, so Peridot and her friends figured a refreshing dip in the lake would help cool them off. As the young fillies ventured into the lake, all was going well. The young fillies were having fun splashing around, and enjoying the cool waters. But one of Peridot's friends suggested a race. Being a rather competitive pony, Peridot couldn't resist. And so, the friends lined up and readied themselves to test who could swim the farthest and the fastest. When one of the ponies shouted "Go!" Peridot was off. She was so focused on winning, that she didn't even pay attention to who was winning. All she knew, was she had to swim fast and don't stop. And as she kept swimming, further and further away from shore, she couldn't hear that her friends were calling out to her. Before she knew it, Peridot was so far from shore, that her friends were like dots in the distance.

Peridot panicked, trying to keep herself afloat as she tried to paddle back to shore. But Peridot was exhausted, and could barely keep herself up. Frightened and tired, Peridot yelled for help. Luckily for her, there were older mares and stallions in the water. One of them was close enough to hear her. The friendly mare helped Peridot Darling onto her back, and carried her back to shore where her friends were eagerly waiting.

Though Peridot escaped unharmed, she has been left terrified of water.
