Royal Pain (Adventure RP With Prince Bluebood) OOC Discussion

How many other characters should join? We don't want this group to get too big, and ofcourse a challenge would need to be set up big enough to make it interesting for such a group...

We're still in Canterlot. I don't see any need to start a new thread until we move somewhere else. Once again, I'm waiting on other people. I will do a post for Blueblood reading the book and what he finds out when other people have had their say. As far as I'm concerned, this chapter doesn't finish until the expedition is agreed and Blueblood decides to go on it. Then we can start a thread on an Uyanazi bound air-ship, or jsut skip to Uyanazi.

Nah, he'd get a lackey to do it..Or just have the front desk (Or whoever minds the rooms) buzz them. It would be very unwise to wake Fire Walker at this moment. Very unwise.

Wooh! And then we'll finally know who the poor bandaged pony was from "Read It And Weep" was.

Poor Dunder. He'll get hours and hours of listening to Rainbow Dash as she SLOWLY reads a book out-loud that was intended for preteens.

I suggest you guys get set up for the next day. I'm pushing through the background stuff that needs to be set up as afst as possible, but I'll need at ;east one more post to get things seet up for the next meeting. Plus, I'm having great difficulty being suitably obnoxious. I need to find a way to crank up Blueblood's jerk credentials a bit. He was entirely too reasonable in that last meeting.

Well, you could always rewatch the "The Best Night Ever". He didn't strike me as a 'jerk', more like a spoiled rich kid. Always getting what he wants...I like what Faust had to say about him:

Lauren Faust stated that Celestia's nephew had no name in the show (before The Best Night Ever aired), and that he's the "great great great great great great great great great great great (and probably even more greats) nephew on Celestia's and Luna's mother's side, about 52 times removed, roughly speaking." He was originally a Duke but was changed to a Prince per Hasbro's request.

I'm surprised they wanted him to be a prince. Princes are usually good guys. Dukes and (Brrrrr) archdukes are EVIL! They're like Grand Viziers!

Um... this is going to make my job harder. I was expecting reports with more in the way of deatils about their more recent doings, specifically the expeditions they'd been on. When Blueblood reads those reports, this is the thumbnail description he's going to take away.

Firewalker - A once capable, but apparently washed out REA officer.

Dunder - A capable swordspony but a hot head, and unlikely to be at all reliable.

Muggo - A barkeep and average pony.

There's nothing in there about their ability to take part in the sort of expedition he's planning, and it's already been established that they are clearly amateurs who came across the journal by accident and have never been anywhere near the scene where anything in it actually happened, so it's not like they have any special knowledge that will help him in his quest.

He's going outside his comfort zone already. Why would he decide to take these three ponies rather than hiring some professionals with a record of experience?

I'm not ragging on your characters, but I have to play Blueblood as he would act, and so far, I can't see a reason he'd choose your characters over anypony else. I want this RP to go ahead, but I can't see how to get it back on the rails.

There has to be some compelling reason for him to take this group with him. It can't be that they initially get on, as the conflict between Blueblood and the three common ponies is explicitly stated in the title of the RP, and that is where a lot of the humour and character development will come from.

I can't think of anything, and I invite suggestions as to what to do. Please.

I can think of a few things..

Remember, this is a comedy. If he hired the best his money he could get him, the pros would come, escort him to the proper places, find what he was looking for, and return him home. Quick and proper! No fun in that. And really, in story, do you really want it to go perfectly? As planed?

Ofcourse that wouldn't make sense in character so.....

He sees these reports and tosses them aside. He'll hire some real explorers...but...

A. No real professional wants to work for Blueblood! Earned or not, he's got a pretty crummy reputation!

B. During the whole party in the hall, which included Blueblood and the three, along with some of the best explorers in Equestria. They actually had a proper dinner, but the four were too busy talking (and later drinking) to attend. This was good, considering the food was prepared improperly and everypony (and Griffon) who ate the food became very sick and were all rushed to hospital. So all the best of the best are currently getting their stomachs pumped and while they will be fine in a few days..Or week...Blueblood doesn't have time to wait!

C. Is Blueblood in control of his own money? Does he receive an allowance from his mother? Maybe she refuses to allocate the needed money for such an elaborate "Goose Chase". The good prince has his own money on hoof, but it would hardly enough to cover the expedition he really wanted, but those three crazy ponies got excited over just a few hundred bits...They work for the cheap.

D. Blueblood actually hires the best money can allow him to, but he also hires the three in 'thanks' for starting the ball running. Fire would guard the camp, and Runner and Muggo' would be the camp's cooks (and would have to clean up camp as well.) He doesn't bother to tell them until they actually get to where they're going. The three will not be happy. HOWEVER:

  1. The real 'pro's' that Blueblood hire go off with him and get themselves killed/caught/lost/whatever. Bluebood returned to the camp defeated, but he does not give up!
  2. The real 'pro's' that Bluebood hire actually realize there would be more money in simply kidnapping the good Prince and ransoming him for some REAL money. The three find this out and have to rescue him!
  3. The real 'pros' that Blueblood hire were actually con-ponies. Once they get him alone, they simply rob him blind and hop the boat back to Canterlot..With bad news.."The Prince is Dead!" Not only is the Prince now in a foreign country in the middle of nowhere. he's broke, missing most of his better equipment and he has to rely on the three to finish his quest and to get him back home in one piece.

I'm not too keen on having to change her report, since it would be changing the character itself. Yes, the three are misfits, but there's the fun in that. Even in FIM, the mane six are hardly heroes on paper...

Anyone else have any ideas?

"Le Grand Cafe". Ooh, fancy! ;-) Poor Fire normally would have been 2 of out of 3 for his requests...So she'll try to this 'sober' thing and see how it works.

Waiting on Muggo to post...
